Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro International Version - Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Guides, News, & Discussion

Hey guys,
There is a international version of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro (Kenzo) which also supports LTE Band 20 which is substantial for me considering buying a new phone.
What is also substantial for me, is xda's devs and custom ROM support. So as this obviously is different from the standard Kenzo (also 2 mm thicker), I asked myself if all the Kenzo ROMs will plain work for it, too?
As the networking band support is also part of the system I slightly doubt it. But it would be great. And if so I would by it instantly.
Here's the phone: http://www.gearbest.com/cell-phones/pp_502848.html?lkid=10204748&utm_source=tt_de
Anyone can give some advice on this (asap, as there's China's Single Day Sale today ).
Thanks in advance.
Best Regards,
Seyron

It does work. I had a kenzo without band 20 and had RR ROM installed. Now i flashed my new Kate with the same rom but with Kate Modem.zip and I have it fully working with good LTE 4g reception.

That sounds great. As you own the phone and it sounds like also some time now, are there any concerns to consider about it? Like something is really bad? Camera, fingerprint, sound, display?

I just got the Special Edition with the 11/11 sale. I always thought Special Edition and Internation Version were the same thing! Now my question is: what's the difference between these two versions, besides the 2mm?
As for ROMs (and even accessories): Kate I feel has enough options to allow me to have made this purchase, especially since I won't be changing them every other day.
EDIT: Look at the specs deep into the Gearbest page:
> Product size: 15.25 x 7.60 x 0.87 cm / 6 x 2.99 x 0.34 inches
It's the International/Special/Kate edition - not Kenzo+ as you thought.

Redmi 2A has no Custom Roms at all ... why?

I am really curious about it...
well, mainly because I am one of the stupid ones who bought a Redmi 2A while not living in China ... and the Redmi 2A (HM 2A) is a China only Phone.
It is bad enough that the phone gets sold in US, Europe and India, but in the end, most users are unable to use the Phone, as it only works with 2G connection.. 3G or 4G are mostly not possible to use due to Band Limitation.
So if you are not living in China, do not buy the Redmi 2A!
But anyhow.. how does it comes that there is really NO rom whatsoever for the Redmi 2A to find, noone in China interested enough? Why than the 'huge' custom Rom base with the Redmi 2? .... That really bothers me, as the Redmi2A seems to be a really nice Phone ... and also its selling numbers are not small
Kind Regards

Basically,
Kernel sources available=Tons of ROMs
Kernel source depends on chipset variant
Redmi 2A uses different chipset(Leadcore L1860C) than the usual Redmi2(Quallcomm Snapdragon 410 MSM8916).
As many SD410 devices are available in the market with kernel sources relaesed,(and no devices simmilar to Redmi2A having kernel sources released) ketut.kumajaya managed to reverse engineer the kernel and build CM12.1 which was used by others.
Thread link-> http://forum.xda-developers.com/and.../how-to-convert-qualcomms-dtb-to-dts-t3221223
Yeah, i could kiss kumajaya .. either male or female, i don't care ^^
I am using a Nexus Experience Rom on my Redmi 2, properbly also just possible due to the unofficial kernel leak.
I always expected the 'damn' Leadcore CPU to be the reason noone ever made a custom Rom for it, but had no real 'proof' of it.
How much I would love to see the Kernel Source for Redmi 2 and with that also the Redmi 2A officially released. Latest then there would be properbly plenty of different Roms with even fewer Bugs (couldn't find one so far in my Nexus Rom)
It simply sucks that they didn't force stopped selling the Redmi 2A outside of China ... they properbly knew already before that this will cause lots of ppl to suffer from bying a Phone that is theoretical unusable in outside countries .. and after it was sold outside China, there should be at least a global rom, it couldn't be sooo hard to translate the default rom.. that alone would help a lot....
Well.. anyways I kind of gave up my hopes to see a kernel release and so I can properbly also give up hope that there will ever change anyhing regarding Redmi 2A...
Need to wait to get my USB Port on Redmi 2A fixed again and then I'll start deleting one after the other bloatware .. untill I really have as few Chinese Crap on Redmi 2A as possible...
Having in the end a List of Apps to uninstall without causing infinite reboot might help already... or finding proper exchanges for some apps in order to get rid of the chinese ones... But thats all i'll see when the USB Port is working for Computer connections too, and not only for charging if you get the USB plugged in in the right angle
it's very hard to develop device if didn't using mainstream SoC i think
If your Redmi2A is Quallcomm Snapdragon 410 MSM8916(cpu),you can try to use the ROM for wt88047,such as the lineage os(cm)

The Redmi2A is a Leadcore L1860C cpu. That seems to be one of the main reasons nobody does much with it, because these cpus are everything but mainstream.

thanks.
It's goodluck that i get the bestest version of Reimi2A.
Only the best version of Redmi2A have the Quallcomm Snapdragon 410 MSM8916.
hmm mine is also redmi2A, but i have no issues playing around with custom roms.
Just FYI, mine is 64-bit! Snapdragon 410 quad-core 1.2-GHz

Really considering the Note 4 Pro, is this Global rom compatible with the model in the link below?
I think that's the cheapest I can find the pro model for, been debating between the Note 3 Pro, which is slight cheaper and also still looks like a great handset but I like the build and look of the note 4 better. How do you find the camera performance in the latest update? I've seen a couple of reviews where the camera was rated quite poorly? It's not a deal breaker for me as long as its usable which it appears to be.

Hey,
yes this ROM is for the phone you linked. Right now there is only the Redmi Note 4, the "pro" was given to it by the shop.
Don't buy from tinydeal! Stay away from tinydeal!
For price check use kimovil: kimovil xiaomi-redmi-note-4-3gb-32gb
Geekbuying has the 32GB right now on a sale, in general the price for it is around 210$ on all shops.
When the phone isn't on sale then Gearbest is the cheapest (as kimovil proves), link here: Gearbest Redmi Note 4 - 32GB
... so tinydeal is more expensive and not trust worthy, please stay away from it.
Concerning the camera, later next week (probably on the weekend) I will do a low light camera comparison between Mi5, Moto G4 Plus and the Redmi Note 4, have a look at it and judge. (I don't like to share opinions, it's best if people can judge themselves.)

Thanks I've bought previously from tiny deal and the phone was fine although it had potential spy ware on it, which was removed with the flash of firmware. I'll check out the other links though thanks.
I thought that was the 'pro' version as it's the 64gb model? Thanks again I'll look for your further review.

Looked at the link. What happened is Tinydeals are using wordplay to label it as "Pro". Just because they are pre installing the Global Rom and its the best hardware configuration available, 3gb of Ram/64gb of storage.
It is however not the Pro version that is rumored and likely to be released in a few months that will feature a Snapdragon processor (likely 652), come factory built with the Global Rom and different Radio Band support (including US lte bands like 2/4).
The other difference is likely going to be battery life and the fact that the real Pro version will be built for Global market and thus get long-term Global Rom official support.
Arguably the biggest difference (as seen between the MTK and SD Redmi Note 3) is software. The SD version has source code released which means custom roms. Also the SD version wont be stuck on MM and likely to be updated to pass Nougat 1 way or another.

Ah yes I see now, hence why people are requesting a pro model featuring a sd processor.
I still might need to get it now as I would be selling my current handset to raise some funds for something else. I'm not bothered by custom rom support if I'm honest, though it is nice to fall back on if xiaomi don't come through with the updates. That's why I'm half considering the redmi note 3 pro, as it seems to tick a lot of boxes.
I've currently got a galaxy S7 which is very good but not perfect (though pretty close). Pretty much nothing will touch it in the camera department, but I find the fingerprint sensor just OK, it fails to match all the time which is annoying and I think xiaomis implementation is better (both placement and tech wise). The audio is also a bit lacking on the s7, it's fine on the loud speaker (although it's a bit lower due to waterproofing). Audio also isn't that great over ear or head phones. Other than that most things are very good, battery isn't bad but again it's even better with xiaomis 4000mah battery.

Ah well the Samsung Galaxy S7 is nice and excel in the hardware department across the board. Only topped by the HTC 10 in certain areas. S7 definitely is the best back camera on the market. However its Software side is a huge shortcoming. It has an expiration date and performance drops in about half a year. It's like having a 4k 3D Smart 60" TV and being able to only watch VHS on it.
The Redmi Note 3 Pro has better battery life, fingerprint scanner, Audio customization but not to be confused with power. It's headphone jack is weaker than most. The loudspeaker placement or volume isn't the best either. But the sound has much better control because Viper4Android is easy to install. Also the battery is better but not as big of a gap as it used to now on Miui 8 Marshmallow. Battery efficiency lowered from Miui 7 Lollipop.
Day to day use, it performs like a beast. No force closes, hiccups or freezing. Definitely the best phone available in the $100 - $350 bracket.

Hey, you need the sp flash tools and drivers to make it work. Did you fix it so far? Do you still need help?
The "pro" after the model name tells you that it's the Chinese version and not the global version. Dunno what will happen once the actual pro version comes out tho

U probably need to unlock the bootloader first. I suppose it's to deter people from buying the cheaper China version and just installing the global rom on it.

Nah, fastboot flash on MTK shall work anyway, doesn't matter if the boot-loader is locked or unlocked.

Edit: There is no global version of any Xiaomi phone. Doesn't matter if it's "pro" or non "pro". Some phones are made for e.g. India as in India Xiaomi can't sell MTK powered phones....

yes I read y our post.
To be more precise: What exactly did you do in fastboot. What tools have you used. What drivers have you installed. What OS do you have on your PC. ... What did not work, what was the error message.
"It doesn't work" is never a valid problem description.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro

My brother wants to buy me a Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro and I want some advice from you if is worth to buy this phone or not.
I think that for a cheap phone comes with some features that you can get with a high priced phone and here I'm talking about the fingerprind reader and the gyro wich I don't see it in many cheap phones and I realy want to try the VR thing wtih this.
What are the pro and cons for this phone? I see that this thread is for Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 and I want to ask if the bootloader for Pro is also unlocked and if the custom ROMs like CM13/14.1 will work for the Pro version.
Cheers!
 @vraciu'
I have two of them. Wouldn't buy them today anymore. Not because of the hardware, because of the ROMs. CM13 (for Kenzo) is unfinished and stopped because of developers are focusing on CM14, and because of that some features are missing. CM14, on the other hand, is weeks / months far from being stable.
If you will buy, buy the Pro. It's Snapdragon based, the other, Kate, is Mediatek based. But I don't know if you will find the 3, now, that 4 is out.
I got my Note 3 Pro just last week. I'm extremely happy with it. It's an amazing phone at the price.
The bootloader comes locked, but Xiaomi will unlock it (with ~50% success rate it seems), or there are unofficial ways to unlock the bootloader.
I'm running CM14.1 on my phone right now. So far, it seems very stable, no issues that I've noticed so far.

Kate is not MediaTek based, Kate is just the Kenzo with additional 2mm height, and additional LTE bands.
The Hennessy is the MTK based.
Kenzo is probably the better one to get, assuming it has the LTE coverage you need. There are more cases and screen protectors designed for it.
Bootloader is locked, you can request an unlock from Xiaomi.
The camera is not good on this, that's probably the biggest negative.

Redmi 4 Prime Global version

Hello,
does anyone here know anything about if the Global version will be released and when (same as what Redmi 3S has)? I tried to Google it but all I found was so many threads about Global ROM, which I don't even understand what is (and certainly it doesn't have anything to do with HW supported LTE bands, does it?)
I would mostly need LTE b20 (Czech Republic)
Thanks

@tslnox Could you tell me something about the audio quality of the redmi 4x, please? That's the only thing that matters to me because i listen to a ton of music with my headphones, I don't care about camera or other stuff. Let me know when you get it!
ps. Where do you buy it? and how much does it cost? I found out the 32gb version at 127€

I bought it in Czech Republic, so the pricing is different, I had it for 4900CZK or cca 185€ with cheap tempered glass as a "gift". I'll answer you when I try listening to some music, I just put the SIM in and connected charger. I hope they will create 4X subforum soon, as now we are technically spamming wrong forum.

Best phone under 250$ with great Lineage support

Hello!
Last year, decision was very clear for me: Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 (mido). Great specs (battery!), great price and 1st place on this list: https://stats.lineageos.org/
Today for another device that I need, I do not know for sure. What do you suggest?
Criteria:
- under 250$
-Dimensions: Height max ~158mm (not too large phone)
- Great battery (+4000mAh)
- Good camera
- (Year 2017+)
- NOT Samsung.
- Official Lineage support + Lineage for Microg support
Thank you and greetings!
This turned out to be more difficult decision than I was expecting...
Either device has great lineage support and is NOT anymore in store OR it is in store and does NOT have official Lineage support.
Xiaomi MI A1 seems to be the only one to have both.
Xiaomi mi a1 is the best choice for you. I used it for months before i moved to mi a2. It's a nice phone. You can go for it, i believe it'll soon receive Lineage 16 official update.

Thank you for an answer!
Now I am tottaly swinging between Redmi Note 4 an Mi A1. Both are quite similar, but Redmi Note 4 has a much better battery (4000mAh vs. 3080mAh).
I have also found Asus Zenphone Max Pro M1 to be a good match (5000mAh), but I has poor camera.
If the price would not be an issue, I would probbaly go for Xiaomi Pocophone F1 (350$). But I really do not see the point. Phones above are good enough for normal use.
I also have mido on los 15.1, I'm thinking of buying rn5pro or rn6pro.
Instead of buying an old phone which already have Lineage OS support, you can buy a new phone which will probably get Lineage OS support.
I am talking about Mi A2. I am pretty sure that once the 2 year update program under android one project ends, it will definitely get the Lineage OS Support.
But if you can't wait for something that might or might not happen, you can go for whyred I guess.
If you ask me I would stretch up a little bit and go for poco F1, I don't think that there is any other phone out there, right now, which offers such a great value for money.
If by any chance you are able to get your hands on a OnePlus device (probably second hand so that it fits your budget), that would be great too.
Decision is yours.
You can get a first gen Pixel XL for under $200, I've loaded LineageOS on it and it's so good that I'm actually selling my Note 9 and going back to the Pixel as my daily driver. Camera is better too, despite being kinda an older phone now.
I picked up a used Oneplus 5 a few weeks ago for $200 and flashed MicroG Lineage to it. Excellent phone so far, I am 100% pleased with it.
Pocophone F1
+ Community
+ Official LineageOS
+ LineageOS with MicroG
+ Performance
+ SD
+ Battery and runtime
+ Camera
+ Price
+ Can be opened with screw instead of glue (to change battery, e.g.)
+ No glas back. Scratched back can be changed on the cheep
+/- No OLED display (means no oled flickering and no burnin)
- No NFC
- Only one camera
In 2020, pocophone is still considered the best option for a good Lineage support? Well, that is nice to hear...
Even so, any other, maybe a little cheaper option? ))
I was also in the same situation... Frankly there is no good phone for this purpose in budget range. My only expectation was redmi 7 getting an official lineage update. But the developers seems to be satisfied with their own unofficial versions. We have two unofficial lineage for this phone but no official ones.
Actually requirement of a budget phone which is on microg (or degoogled) is a social cause... I wish this happened.

As others mentioned before, Mi A1 will be the phone of your choice. I just broke mine but will have the screen repaired. I love it.

How can you say that since the official support for MI A1 has been dropped on April 2020?
You see, that exactly is the problem with LineageOS and others costum ROMs. You never know, how long some device will be maintained. That is specially problematic when you would like to choose a device based on official Lineage support. I could buy Pocophone F1, but support may be dropped in few months. YOU NEVER KNOW.
If only there would be few selected devices with long-time official support: https://forum.xda-developers.com/lineage/general/suggestion-provide-long-time-official-t4087499
If you can still get a Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 go for that. We have several of these in operation. Works like a charm. I believe the the latest Note 5 is still unsupported.
In case you know what you are doing: broken screen replacement around EUR 15 via e.g. AliExpress (including digitizer). 30 minutes to change. Bunch of spare parts like ringers and loudspeakers in the EUR 2 range available as well.
In general some hazzle with the unlocking but I've been told the process has improved significantly (works only under Windows).

This is the crap. I have a Samsung S7, when I bought it, the Lineage support was perfect. Some months later the support was dropped. Now I think, I buy a IPhone...

The S7 is in fact a very good phone for it's age and I am still using it daily with https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...eta-lineageos-17-0-galaxy-s7-build-1-t3980101.
Unofficial yes, but Lineage, good performance and battery life and very stable

Since every other XDA member here posted crap (the best advice was the poco, but it has a very cheap display and is a poor plastic unibody) or ingored your wishes totally, I want to be honest:.
With a litte bit of own research on the supported device list on the LineageOS homepage you could have seen, that the Mi 8 (dipper) would have been the best pick you make with your criteria. I bought one last year for around 200 €. But you're a little bit late for that. It's hard to get dippers with a proper pricetag because they are sold out.
A very interesting LOS-capable, young, high end device is the OnePlus 7 Pro (guacamole). But of course this one is way too much expensive at the moment. If I were you, I'd wait a few months until it get's more affortable and buy it. At least I'm considering to do that.
As an alternative to LineageOS, you might want to consider /e/ https://e.foundation/
