P9 Lite uneven screen with a tempered glass protector - Huawei P9 Lite Questions & Answers

Hi all, any one here having an issue with their tempered glass protector not fully adhering to their device?.. This https://youtu.be/iYmX8hXtXNI is what is happening to mine with a tempered glass protector on it... This is not a one off as I've put two different glass protectors on my device and they both do the same!.. Do you think I can send this back to either manufacturer/retailer for a replacement?..
Thanks for taking and replying ?

I had a similar problem several times in a few minutes I held squeezed with fingers on the screen and I think that helped. So far it is OK sometimes diverges but after 1-2 minutes holding is again stuck, we'll see how long

Afaik this is a common issue that is due to the fact that the edges of the screen are slightly rounded. Because of that, air gets between protector and screen.
Your best bet is to try another protector that is slightly smaller than the screen. Most P9 Lite protectors are designed so they do not cover 100% of the front because of this.

Or simply buy a 3mk glass protector. No bubbles at all.

Doesn't the p9 lite comes with a factory applied screenprotector? I've read it on some other forums

Yes but that is just a simple foil. Not comparable with the protection that a good tempered glass provides.

The factory foil is doing well for me, but it is slowly getting some air bubbles on the sides after 5 months of use.
Would a foil hold better than glass on this device?

I'm using spite glass protector... Wonderful!

The problem isn't the screen per see, it's the screws that hold everything in place.
If you remove the back cover and slightly unscrew the 2 screws by the usb port (or other parts like the top) you will make the screen flat and the protector will fit just fine.
I've done that to my phone and the tempered glass protector fits perfectly now.

Dude you are 100% right. And its simple 3 min fix. Just did mine and working excellent.
Thank you for that idea!
Just unscrewed 2 screws near USB port, and screen protector is 100% flat. No bubbles at all.

The only thing that needs attention is the nfc antenna, you need to be careful with it. Sometimes it stays stuck to the battery other times it gets stuck in the plastic housing and it is easy to tear it.
Another side effect of this "mod" is that the glass is under less stress and is less prone to cracking on drops.

[Q] Left pattern after removing screen protector

Hey Guys! Just wanna share this problem. After removing a cheap screen protector on my nexus 4 i still have this pattern - the cutout on proximity sensor and on the camera. I tried scratching it with my nails but there is really no more residue, the surface is flat but the feel on the screen is different on the sensor or the actual glass. Did I remove a coating or something after removing the protector? I also dropped a small amount of alcohol trying to clean it and observed that it follows the pattern. Check out the pictures please. Thank you very much.
What does this mark feel like and how hard is it?

I couldn't describe it but you could barely feel the difference between the real glass (proximity or camera or edges) and the area covered by the screen protector. It seems It'd never be removed. I tried tape, alcohol, scratching it, none worked.

Mmmm, I assume that the residue has absorbed into the Gorilla Glass which is really bad in many ways...

Either that, OR it has peeled off the oleophobic coating with it. OP, Do finger prints stick more than usual?

I thought the term oleophobic is for the steinheil SPs only. Is it really possible? What could possibly happen? Well I cant say, I immediately put a screen protector on the device right after I got it.
i'd say the oleophobic coating just rubbed off completely around the screen protector, mine has a slight problem around the sensor and front camera cut-out but it can only be seen if there are fingerprints on the screen and you know what you are looking for. i think it happens because of sweat/skin oils.

Does no oleophobic coating bother you?

How does a phone without it perform? It says you should NOT remove the pre-applied protector unless you apply another.
I've had no issue whatsoever with it. The screen protector it comes with is good enough for use initially, and I've got some glass protectors on the way to replace it shortly. It is a slightly odd decision by Huawei, but if you plan on using a protector, it shouldn't really matter with regards to diary use. If you're not, then I guess your cleaning cloth will have to never be far away from reach!
I'm a fan of matt screen protectors so I'll be removing the factory fitted one replacing it with a matt version.

yes
definitely, not just fingerprint but everything keeps smudges and mess on the glass and really hard to clean.

Why did you remove the factory installed screen protector?

Because the first unit has a dead pixel, I had to make sure it is not a piece of dust between the glass and screen protector. The second unit has a piece of dust between the two layer and I had to remove the film to make sure it is just a piece of dust. The protective film just arrived now from eBay so after these lines put it on.
Doesn't bother me in the least, I give my current phone (also non oleophobic) a wipe with a microfibre cloth once a day or so and it's fine.
I am happy with the factory pre-installed screen protector.
Doesnt bother me one bit. The coating wears off over time anyways. The factory fitted Screenprotector does it's job :good:

Screen is which Kind of Glass, Scratch resistance experiences?

Hi
Did Not know they used No ? Glas.
Due to 2.5 temepred glass does Not fit that perfect so i wanted to ask If someone has info about the quality of the used glass against scratches e.g.?
Thx
P10 lite has just normal glass. No scratch resistance what-so-ever. So be very careful with it. Also note that the glass on both the front and back can really easily scratch if using a flip cover. Even though the touch flip covers from Huawei are beautiful, they will scratch the screen if any microscopic little piece of dirt comes between the cover and the screen (and it absolutely will).

Personal experience with three of the devices. Two using the flip cover from Huawei, one blue and one black (color of the cover). Both have markings from the edges of the flip cover and have multiple small scratches on the screen. It's quite bad. And they've been handled with care.

I've heard of multiple devices getting scratches from covers and any type of glass can be scratched. It's obviously cheap glass used on this phone but I doubt it's just 'normal' glass. Perhaps they went for better shatter resistance instead. Huawei isn't saying where they get the glass but I'm assuming it's of Chinese make.
Some of my older phones that had Gorilla glass have been more scratched up than this but that's of course not really saying much. Mine is without screen protection and has no noticeable scratches so I suspect it's the cover you used that did the damage. Wouldn't be the first time.

Xiaomi Mi A2 scratch very easily

I was surprised to see the screen seemingly scratch so easily. I have 2 weeks since I bought the phone and already has scratches on screen. I put it in the casing without harsh objects in my pocket. Feel pretty daft, as I really liked this phone, and I normally take real care, but that included case was much sleeker and comfortable to use than the chunky one. Feels like I have permanently damaged it (scratch won't 'wipe off', and can physically feel ithe groove of the scratch). If someone with Xiaomi Mi A2 has the same problem, please share here.
mine-s fine for now (used it for 3 weeks) you live near a beach? sand is the worse enemy of screens...
L.E. maybe add a screen protector anyway, you wont feel the scratch any more. (and probly not notice it either)

The Mi A2 has gorilla glass 5, so keys or steel objects cannot scratch it. Things like granite countertops, diamonds, or sand can easily cause scratches. Theoretically the glass is just as scratch resistant as most flagships. I made sure I was getting some form of gorilla glass in my phone because many times I keep it in my pocket with my keys (just not thinking about which pocket has what in it). I haven't had a scratch on it yet.
I used mine around 3 wks and no scratch so far without screen protector. I normally put my phone in my pants pocket. Maybe you can check where you put your phone whether there's any sand or something hard that might scratch the phone screen

And in the sun light you don't observe any micro scratch?
I also notice micro scratches

I haven't. I am waiting for my glass screen protector to get in anyways though. I recommend a glass one. They don't scratch easily and are really cheap. If you are concerned about scratches you should probably buy one. I got a 3 pack for 4$ on gearbest
using it for 2 weeks now. .screen looks fine no scratch so far but i'm thinking putting a screen protector just to be a safe
I can confirm that micro scratches happen very quickly, had 2 after 3 days of careful use. Very much doubt this is gorilla glas.

According to this and other threads it's the oleophobic coating of GG5 which scratches easily:
https://forums.oneplus.com/threads/micro-scratches-on-corning-gorilla-5.742823/
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P4Wtm3h4LdE
the redmi note 5 pro and the mi a2 have the exact same screen/front
like several phones... for me :
- screen protector and
- flip cover
Guys, please stop rage on this phone.
Oneplus 6 i had also scratches on the phone without a screen protector on my mi 8 to.
It is because gorilla glas 5 is softer than gorilla glas 3.

I read it's just the coating which keeps away the fingerprints that scratches easily on GG5

Nobody here is raging, just letting people know and yes, I've noticed the same on my phone as well, but I'm waiting for my screen protector to arrive anyway, so the scratches will be filled by the adhesive.

Is it just me? Or is the 6T a dust magnet?

I clean the phone put it in my pocket and bamn just like that full of pocket dust. Maybe I need to clean my pockets better. Never noticed this with the note 8.
Same for me
Not sure if it is the stock screen protector generating static or other factor.
I think it's the screen protector to be honest.
It's the plastic screen protector
Moving to glass will reduce it?

It's the screen protector for sure. I ripped it off and everything is fine now. No dust at all.
Had an unfortunate incident that put a crack in the stock protector. I got the Skinomi plastic screen protector and there is no longer a dust/ haze problem on the screen. It's 7.85 on Amazon and they give you two. Might be worth it.
Screen protector is the reason. I moved from Note 9 and notice the same thing. Never had a screen protector on mine.
Doesn't bother me though.

Fixes the dust and the haze. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07H8P7HT5/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I now have the same problem on my new Pixel 7 Pro I bought like a month ago. It's screen is dusty whenever I get it out of the pocket no matter what pants.
Searched everywhere and can't find anything useful. My first guess is some kind of static electricity. I've tried:
• anti-static screen cleaner
• letting the battery die and keep it uncharged for like half a day.
• a bunch of different jeans/pants
• even tried vaccum cleaning my pockets and trying to pick up anything that's impossible to see with human eye by a lint roller and duct tape.
Putting on a screen protector film or tempered glass would be my last resort.
After 30 minutes in pocket it looks like this. It's really embarrassing when I have to get it out in front of other people. Also attaching a photo of my pocket so you don't think they are messy or smth.
