S7 edge overheating - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

Hi guys,
I just got a new s7 edge. Been used for two weeks now.. it gets quite warm and at time quite hot suring operation like browsing web youtube checking emails.mostly the top right side and camera area. Im not sure if its a defect or not.. it doesnt get to the point where the phone shuts down but its still warm..i know the normal stuff like getting hot during charging or using the phone during charging. This is when the phone is being used and off the charger .
Simple tasks 30 to 40 degrees celsius youtube and web browsing it goes between 40 to 50 degrees. And for games it goes upto 60 degrees celsius..
Is the phone meant to be this warm/]hot ??
Please help..
I tried the normal procedures. Safe mode , format etc . I disabled apps. optimised apps etc.. still quite warm. When the phone is not in use its cool as a cucumber .

Really weird. I can play games with really sick high end graphics and the phone stays quite cold. The only moment when my S7 Edge gets quite hot is when I record slow motion video.
How is Your battery life? 4-6 hours SOT is normal. If You have less then You should check what app uses Your phone.
Also You can try first, formating the phone(data etc) and then flashing new rom with Odin. It will rewrite whole system partition.

SOT is excellent i average between 4.5 to 7 hours..
My app usage is fine..they say certain apps can make it warm.. I am using cpu z ro monitor the temperatures..
Not sure whether i should return this phone and get another one. Seems there are people with overheating s7 edges..

Well I guess if it doesn't bother You then You can keep the device..

It's a problem with a lot of the samsung phones I've previously had (S3,S4,S5,S6,and now S7 edge) on the bright side, it keeps me really toasty during the winter weather.

This is the first Samsung phone I've ever owned that doesn't get warm. Its the exynos version. I would be worried if yours is getting very hot for no reason.

It gets warm while i start using apps.. like browsing the web pn google chrome and listening to music on google music . Goes up to 40 to 50 degrees celsius..
On the other hand watchinf a video on vlc media player the phones nice n cool..

Have your measured your phones thermals with the cpu z app ?

CPU can get to 80C and that's still in range for normal work, so unless it gets choppy or shuts down - don't worry. see what apps are the most battery consuming ones

[Q] Note 4 heating, hardware or software?

Hello everyone, I recently purchased a new note 4 St N910C. Just after a day of usage I felt that it is getting hot when I play games on it. I closed all the background apps even resetted it but still no luck. My phone is getting heated up near the camera area. My question is that is this a hardware issue or a software one, because if it is a hardware issue I should try and get it replaced, if a software one I should better wait for a lollipop update.
Any suggestions would be gratefully appreciated
Thanks

It is completely normal that your phone gets hot around the camera since you are playing a game...What is the temperature you get while playing?
Would also like to know how hot your unit gets
when playing games. This is the unit that i am planning to get

Sorry for the late reply,
I installed a cpu temperature app, and it shows me that my cpu temperature is 36-38 degrees while playing games, also I noticed that after hearing up some of the games start to lag up a little. Any recommendations?

Well i bought this unit after along study of whether to get the exynos version or the snapdragon version, in my opinion I found the exynos to be better because many users suggested that this version does not heat up and works better, but now as I'm using it personally I think it heats up alot, the temperature I get is around 36-38 degrees.

Maybe that is normal when playing games with exynos.

Galaxy Note 4 heating [camera]
I purchased Galaxy Note 4 [SM-N910G] a week back. It's on Android 4.4.4 (KitKat)
I am having a different problem for which I could not find any satisfying solution on the Internet. Whenever I open camera app, the phone starts heating up near camera & battery also drains very quickly [around 2% under 5 min.]
I know that the phone will heat up a little bit when playing high graphics games, but I don't think it should heat up too much when using camera app.
I have already factory reset [both soft & hard reset] the phone, but still it does not help. I contacted Samsung support, & they told me to 'Reset app preferences' from Application manger, but still the device heats up when using camera app.
I also cleared data of the camera app, but still the issue remains
The phone does not heat up at all on standby mode, but opening camera app raises it's temperature more than it should. Previously a Note 2 user, this problem was not there.
Anyone else experiencing the same issue on Note 4 ? Any ideas on this ?
The phone heats up only if you're recording 4k or 2k video. If you use camera generally & your device heats up.You must get your device checked

You can factory reset all day, it won't help. Thats not a problem, the camera just uses a lot of processor power and thus generates heat. You can't change that, you have to live with it
My note 4 with ****y snapdragon heat like fire
I wanna replace it because of the overheating I can't something even hold it I put is always in freezer to cold it
With cpu temp app it gave me 60c even without games the :crying:best value was 40c but when I put it in freezer it down to 30c
And the weard thing that at the same time the cpu temperature app gave me 60c the cpu cooler app gave me 34c
Weard which is right? ??
This phone is making me crazy

Sorry, but do you have any idea about CPU temperatures? 60 isn't bad. 40 isn't bad. 30 isn't bad. Even 70° and occasionally 79° would be acceptable. Don't put your phone into the freezer, ity not good to freeze the hardware.. Especially if you literally have no problem. The CPU is prone to temperature fluctuations and your values are fully normal in the world of CPUs. There is no best value, everything up to 70° is the normal temperature variation. Your phone doesn't have a problem, its perfectly fine.
Mine actually heats up while charging and using at same time. Clean master shows 70-75°C cpu temperature while using browser and stuff but 80+ while gaming, that's not normal right? I'm worried cuz I always used my old phones while charging and they never got this hot, I feel like it will melt someday :/ In what temperatures exynos operates?
I got my SM-N910F yesterday and installed LP 5.0.1 via OTA. Temperatures are 40+ when the phone isnt doing anything. While I did the Antutu Benchmark, it was around 50-52 degrees (Celsius). Feels much warmer than my previous Note 3 (which of course never had LP). And since i am not used to this temparature on my Note 3, i kinda worry about the temps right now. I read a lot that many have that problem since LP update. So whats normal and what would be too high for regular usage (not using Camera or playing Games) ? Is there an average i can go by and compare ?
And whats my alternatives now if I want lower temps , go back to 4.4.4 Stock Rom (currently have LP 5.0.1 Stock) or do I try a 5.x Custom ROM . Did the Custom ROMS fixed these heating problems or is that just something I have to live with ?
Thanks for any help.

Just do a Factory Reset (hard reset)

Overheating

Hello everyone
Yesterday I received my Moto X pure Edition, after 3 hour of charge I transfer all of my files and stuff from my old Nexus 5. After a few minutes of use I noticed that the phone started to overheat excessively (110 farenheit) and the battery only lasted 3 hours, I did a complete reset of the phone but the same result overheat after 15 minutes of use.
I replaced/updated the play services software and same thing.
Someone has the same problem???
Please Advice...

I honestly don't think it is. I had 3 G4s and they were all hot and glitchy. I honestly think it is the sd808. Back when I called Samsung about exchanged a note 4 developer edition the guy told me that snapdragon 808/810 were heat prone and they would not be using them for upcoming phones. That was before it was publicly known. I still think there is something awry with their latest processors. Even late batch sd805 had heat issues. My note 5 had zero signs of heat and my note 4 you really have to push to get hot. The g4 & moto x got hot texting or web browsing! I don't get it. Can't be a confidence that both are 808 processors and heat demons

I don't understand how it's so hard for them to make a chip not overheat. I mean this isn't the first, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th generation of chips. Perhaps custom kernels will allow us to throttle better?
Cool here except when turbo charging or navigation is on.

Computers get hot, CPU's get hot, PC's and laptops have fans to keep them cool...cell phones do not. I do not believe that any cell phone will ever stay "cool" when doing CPU/GPU intensive tasks. That's just the way it is.
turbo charger will heat it up that is obvious but yes when you do stuff that uses lots of cpu/ram it will heat up a little same was with my note4 .
Mine only overheats when I am doing some heavy usage...I don't think "Overheat" is the right word, maybe just "gets warm". But over the weekend, I acquired a Samsung Galaxy S6 (in a trade for a different phone). When setting it up, it was getting hotter than the MXP ever got. I checked it with Gsam battery and it was 133 degrees and took about 30 minutes to cool down. My MXP gets hot, but cools down pretty quick.

It's the Media Scanner service. Because you added all that media from the Nexus 5 it had to be indexed. Once done, it will settle down and be OK.
This is some information I found in another thread:
"For each file and directory it finds it creates an entry in the so-called Android Media Store. For special file types like images, videos and music files it also scans for meta data like EXIF information for images and mp3 tags for music files. Applications may query the Media Store to find specific files bases on the file type or meta data. Well known applications that do so are the Gallery and the Music Player. Other applications may also do so.
The media scanner runs as a background service and is not visible to the user. "

Is 33-42°C normal temp or Defective??

So i feel like my Snapdragon S7 is getting hot when browsing web
And definitely when using the camera app.
Bought a laser temoerature gun and get between 33-42C after browsing the web
The latter was achieved during 1080p 60fps video recording for 5 min.
Is this normal or should i return it as tommorow is my last day?
Please comment what your temps are like during these apps.
Thanks!
My phone was getting quite warm when browsing and was draining battery. I kept disabling packages until this was fixed. Try this. Or if you are okay with full factory reset, try it and don't install any additional apps - just test the same thing first.
It shouldn't get hot while doing basic things. My phone only gets warm to the touch when I'm on VR and even then I don't consider it "hot". Disabling things or shut down all apps you have is not a fix either..it's just a workaround.. I would return it if I where you
My 935FD phone will get up to 96F (35C) while browsing or really doing anything with the screen on for more than 10 mins. It gets noticeably warm to the touch. I've already done a factory reset and disabled a few packages, but I'm not sure if this is just normal operation or not? Does everyone's phone get warm under normal use? What temps are you seeing after being in Facebook or just browsing for 10 mins straight? Trying to determine if mine might be defective as well.

I think I'm going to return mine today and get a new gs7
When I browse the Web the phone gets warm to the touch and it's annoying.
I get between 82-89F degrees just browsing the Web and if I try to use my camera
It gets to 97F like in 2 minutes.
My phone gets warm as well ehen browsing with Chrome, using the camera or facebook app. My phone is with the exynos chipset. I'm too concerned that might be an issue. I have already tried resetting the phone but it still gets warm ans sometimes even hot to the touch.

According to , my phone does got up to 36 C / 97 F while browsing the internet this morning. I let it cool down to 27 C / 80 F and took a 2 minute 1080p60 video and it went up to 32 C / 89 F.
Can anyone with a temperature gun measure theirs and see how it compares to the system temperature (e.g. BMW or GSAM) ?

My phone runs about 36c never seen above 40
Hi
So I bought my GS7E a week ago .. I started to notice that it heats so much when I use it
I just don't know if this is the normal heat for it or not so I wanted to know from your experience
so at normal base when I'm not using it it stays at 34-35C
When I use it for whatsapp, facebook an normal light use it goes up to 37C
when I charge it it goes up to 40C
and sometimes when it's in the car on in my pocket and nothing is running in the background it can go to 40C too
that makes it annoying to receive calls or to hold it and put it next on my ear
should I just keep it is it normal ? or is there a rom I could download? what should I do?
Hello to every one. Bought gs7 just two days ago.
I noticed mine gets warm after about 5_10 minutes of browsing the web. Right now its about 1 hour and its temp is 34`c. If i dont use it it goes down to 32 after some minutes.
After 20 minutes of playing gta vice city it reached 35 and afer 5 minutes of 4k recording it reached 37.
I wanted to know should i consider it normal?
Many forums state that 40 degrees battery temperature is not unsusual . However, 3-4 beers is also not unusual, but it does do damage to the brain.
On batteryuniversity.com I found an article:
"Lithium-ion suffers from stress when exposed to heat, so does keeping a cell at a high charge voltage. A battery dwelling above 30°C (86°F) is considered elevated temperature and for most Li-ion a voltage above 4.10V/cell is deemed as high voltage. Exposing the battery to high temperature and dwelling in a full state-of-charge for an extended time can be more stressful than cycling. Table 3 demonstrates capacity loss as a function of temperature and SoC."
I think this is frightful.
My S7 runs at an average of 32 degrees. (23 degrees ambient)
After half an hour of Gear VR it runs up to 43 degrees.
This means that on average this S7 runs above 30 degrees!
Should I ask a replacement or is my logic totally flawed?
Hi,
Mine, with factory reset and nothing running on background (S Health and all stock google and microsoft apps disabled), is not going below the 34 degrees without doing anything..very annoying touching the back and feel it warm.. I think I will ask for a replacement or at least a check in a experience store here in London..

Thanks!

Mine has gone up to 40 Celsius I have the exynos version that what the phone info app say
i notice mine would run that temp on with 4g on. so i was looking through my phone and fount google sync was turned on and i turned it off. That fixed the heat problem.
Hey guys, i have the Chinese variant of the s7 and mine also runs warm just browsing chrome, though I have to use a vpn as well. I'm past the point of getting a return, but they say I can take it in to get it checked. Have you guys had your s7 tested and is there anything they can do if there's anything wrong with the phone? I'm very frustrated over this, as I thought there would be improvements over the s5. Mine operates around 35c according to cool master and it's frustrating having a hot phone. I'm thinking of getting the supcase so I perhaps won't feel the heat so much. Any thoughts or suggestions? Is it normal for the snapdragon s7s to run a tad warm? And, you guys use a case that prevents you from feeling the heat? It's hard to use this phone naked, as the whole thing is metal and glass, so it's hot in your hand.

Galaxy s8 Gets Hot

Hi i bought the device two days ago and whenever i use it (i start opening Facebook, instagram, WhatsApp and other apps) it gets Pretty warm in the right side or the screen and behind. The CPU reaches 50 degrees and sometimes 55 and the worries me. What should i do? Is it normal or should i return it? I previously had an Honor 7 and it reaches the same temps but it doesnt feel that warm at the touch, it Just gets warm in the bottom left corner.
the temp while i'm typing is 41C, outside its 33degrees C and inside(where i am now) its 24degrees.
I do not believe this is normal whatsoever. My S8+ has been one of the coolest-running Samsung phones I have ever owned. You might want to return/exchange it if that is possible.
I have not used/tested with any apps to determine actual Temps but it never gets hot. It gets warmer but not very hot (like my S7 Edge did) when using Gear VR.
Have you done the simple things like closing all apps & rebooting? Clearing cache, etc? Maybe some app is "stuck."

I would say 5mins. Now it gets maximum 48 degrees in the CPU but i feel the screen and the body Pretty warm... Maybe it's me... I don't know. Feel free ti suggest me what should i do
it is absolutely not normal
my first device share the same issue with your's
well i ask for a exchange, the new unit just go to 45 when running games, most of time it wouldn't even reach 40 degrees
but
new device came with new problems, red tints, home button problem
it's up to you
ask for replacement until you'er satisfy with it
I would get an exchange(Yeah right the real me would hold on to it until it melted because i'm lazy). So far this is the coolest smart device I have ever owned. Even when playing intense 3d games and emulators it only warms up a little.
Thanks Guys! I'm going to return it on Monday.

If you're constantly scrolling and opening posts the phone will get warm, Facebook isn't exactly a battery friendly app, but if you're stuck at a post and reading it for a while it shouldn't get warm, it really depends how you use the phone. I can get my phone warm using twitter too. My friends z5 with the sd810 gets toasty.

Well i dont know what to do... I'm going to return it anyway and see if it gets better. Thanks for your help.
Mate. The CPU throttles when it reaches 80C. What are you worrying about?
I advise reading your manual, which specifically tells you that the device will heat up with use and the heatpipe is located on the top right section of the phone x)
The reason why it may feel hotter than your previous (?) phone is because the metal rim (and whole body) acts as a heat spreader and the heatpipe connects to it with a thermal pad.

Okay but the warm feel is annoying.
Reduce your brightness and it'll reduce the heat

Cpu temps keeps spiking up and down on any device that actually has a cpu.
What you need to look for is battery temp and not cpu temps. I consider battery temps a more steady measure of over heating rather than cpu as they dont spike.
Eitherways heavy bad background apps will make any device hot. Now if your just browsing on chrome with no background apps and your device temp ( battery temp ) is around 40c in a 20c room thats when ill be worried and exchange the device.
But hey thats just me
Gd luck !

Heat

Some phones are great to take camping because if you play Asphalt 8 long enough, the back warms up to the ideal temperature that can bake bread. Rate this thread to express the extent to which the Samsung Galaxy S9 stays cool under extended heavy use. A higher rating indicates that even when playing strenuous games for long periods of time, the phone doesn't get uncomfortably warm.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
Just got an S9 today, I agree about the heat. Though I've found using power saving modes cpu limiter helps a lot.
my device only gets warm when its in direct sunlight, otherwise its staying pretty cool, ive had some people in our groups talk about it too but what ive seen people say none had the issues you said, that sounds pretty serious, maybe ask around in our group, its in my signature

That means three weeks of not even using the phone for proper tasks, not even recording videos
Money well spent.

I use my phone plenty. My wife uses here S9 a WHOLE LOT. Neither of us have heat issues. I am pretty confident that it is because they are not Exynos based phones as it seems most (If not all) in this thread that are complaining about heat are Exynos phone owners.
Exynos based model here, heat is very reasonable especialy when I keep my good old s5+ in mind. During light tasks like whatsapp twitter or watching video's the phone doesn't noticbilly warm up. Browsing the web (for a long time) and some 2D Games make the phone heating up a little but nothing special. Playing some graphicly heavy games does warm the device up but I've so far even with longer gaming sesions never got my peformance dropped signicantly. It just kept peforming like it should. in contrary to my old galaxy s5 which would throttle it's gpu clock within 10 (mostly within 5!) minutes of playing a graphicly intensive game. The device would become very hot. Altough this one can also generate quite some heat if you really push it, but holds up way better with prolonged gaming sessions peformance wise. Really can't complain about it.

Don't worry, I was just joking with you. But glad to hear you're not unlucky with the heat problems and most likely a Snapdragon user.

Ya, we are indeed rocking Snapdragon models. It really makes me wonder why Samsung even bothers with the Exynos. They either screw them up or don't support them or don't include LTE support (S3) and so on and so on...
I had my phone overheat once, to the point it's really burning to touch. It happened just awhile ago while outside and installing the gcam port which they said has working portrait mode, I tried it, it does not fc but it does not get the job done, and it only makes my phone lag. I guess the overheat came from that gcam and the outside environment. I couldnt help but restart my phone, now everything works normal again. S9 Exy.
Experiencing some heat issues recently . Restarted my phone and wipe cache partition everything works fie now.
very good phone with good quality

Thanks
thanks sir
Mine usually heats up after a few mins of using Snapchat. I don’t play games so can’t comment on them.
Well, the heat exist only because you have hot weather like me here @ Greece. Today with 34 Celsius without A/C. the device was untouched.. after the first update (i buy it today lol)
But i use it 5-6 hours all the time with 4g open, facebook, messenger, instagram, a lot of videos and photos and device was perfect without heat or something..
Btw i left from my home at 19:00 with 86% battery and i came home with 14% at 23:00 I think it's perfect.

Same thing happened with me today after installing the gcam mod, restarting phone helps, everything became normal again... Also S9 Exynos user.
I'm a heavy gamer (Exynos Version). The phone heats up to 43 degrees Celsius (109.4 fahrenheit) when playing for about half an hour.
Why? Because in the middle east the temperature is already 36 degrees Celsius right now.
