Hello Ultratablet users,
First, thanks for your continued support. If you are an Ultratablet user that has felt disappointed in your experience in any way, and would like to help us allocate our resources to be put to work efficiently, please read on.
With all of our products, we've consistently taken the approach of getting them in the hands of the users first, and then collecting as much feedback as possible so that we can improve upon the experience quickly and early in the life of the product. We are at our core, a software company first. That's why you would have experienced a lot of updates early when we first started shipping Ultratablets in the middle of 2015.
The earliest updates fixed critical issues that affected the majority of users. Later, the updates addressed certain types of usage issues including video playback, widely used apps issues, etc. At that point in time, we also had support from the design house for the board.
We're at a point now where much of the issues we see our users reporting to be related to platform or firmware issues. Solutions for these types of issues need the design house that designed and manufactured the board in the Ultratablet to be involved. However, their support have now basically slowed to almost a stop because they generally move on from old business to focus on new business. This is an unfortunate, but business driven and standardized way of operations in our industry.
Thus, what we can still do today is deal with software related issues that we can resolve. For platform or firmware related issues, we have almost reached a proverbial ceiling. I write this so to be transparent and honest.
Moving forward, here are two ways we can collect information about the current issues affecting your Ultratablet experience and how we can still provide updates and support. Knowing what the current issues are is the first step to allocating resources to fix these issues.
1. Fill out the following form and please provide us as much detail as possible:

Remix OS version (Found in 'Settings > About tablet')
Serial number (Found in 'Settings > About tablet')
Detailed explanation of issue including affected app(s), opened apps. A screenshot or a video of the issue goes a long way. These details help us attempt to reproduce the issue in-house so we can troubleshoot them here.
After a week or so, I will collect all the issues reported in the form and here, and I'll work with the product manager to work on an update that fixes what we can.

With all due respect, I would take the lack of responses you are sure to get to be indication of how most of us feel. While I get that we were supporting a Kickstarter campaign, I didn't quite expect to be left behind so quickly, hardware or not. It didn't take very long at all for new devices to come up, with new and better updates that NEVER would come to the first launch your company made.
I do get what the lack of responses may allude to. Since the Ultratablet Kickstarter campaign, we have issued around 30 updates and migrated the Ultratablet from to Remix OS 1.0 (based on Android 4.4) to Remix OS 1.5 (based on Android 5.0) to Remix OS 2.0 (based on Android 5.1). I also acknowledge that updates have been fewer and fewer for the past few months, especially since the Tegra 4 chip doesn't support Marshmallow.
I have thus far gotten one private message with a list of detailed issues the user is facing with the Ultratablet. With that list as our only compass, I'm working with the product manager to see what we can fix. If you could also share a list of the issues you face as well, we'd have more information to work on.
As far as new and better goes, are you reffering more to upgrades to Remix OS 3.0, which Ultratablet's chip doesn't support, or are you referring to specific features? If there are features from other versions of Remix OS that you feel would fit well on Ultratablet, we'd be happy to incorporate them.
Finally, I do apologize on behalf of all of us here if the Ultratable community feels "left behind". We do know that our earliest users put us on the map in the first place. We also have to first survive as a startup or else, we wouldn't even be chatting this moment.
Please leave us as detailed notes on your issues as possible. We're still commited on fixing the issues we can. Thanks.

I posted this question sometime ago in the forum,did not get any respond from Remix.
I would like to know if Remix engineers will be releasing a kernel patch to fix the CVE-2016-5195 linux bug?
I'm usually the guy manning our XDA forums and it's much easier and faster for me to respond if you @me. I'll find an engineer tomorrow to talk to about this and I'll give you some feedback. Just to be sure, is this related to the Ultratablet or to Remix OS for PC? I see Linux, and I'm thinking the latter...

It is related to ALL OS's based on the Linux kernel, Android, Ubuntu, RedHat, Debian, etc.
For me the biggest problem is audio stuttering while screen is off. I have filled out a form as OP requested but I got answer that it is already fixed. Not for me, I am on the latest version and the problem is there. I did fastboot Remix OS image restoration and via OTA went to the latest. I would like to hear you loud if audio stuttering exist for you or I am the only one.

Yes I also get stuttering sometimes when I use Xiialive in it is in the background.
I just confirmed with the product manager that the November 1st and November 6th Android security patch issued by Google will be included in the next update for all of our Remix OS products including Ultratablet. Thanks for the assistance!

@RemixOS_Jason Yes I am on the lastest version. Aplications which trigger this issue are streaming apps, for me mainly Spotify and Soundcloud. My suspicion is when a screen goes off the tablet limits wifi data and because of it a stuttering appears.

@RemixOS_Jason while we are having your attention here I would like to ask about one small enhancement. I am not aware if Remix OS 3.0 has it or not but a feature which I miss very much is expanding notification. In 2.0 we are not able to do so. Moreover the spotify notification does not have a playback controll at all.

@RemixOS_Jason I have discovered that I can stop the stuttering in audio when the tablet's screen is blank and an audio app is playing by connecting the tablet to a usb charger. So if the audio is suttering while the tablet's screen is sleep, plugging in a charger to the the tablet will stop the stuttering. So it seems the problem is active when the tablet is on battery power. This only works with a usb charger not the magnet charger.

Resolved since this post, however the request for widgets is still valid.
I am using these two apps along with a Targus USB docking station. This allows me to use an external monitor and it works well. The issue I have is with the Screen Standby. The only way to engage it is to open the play store and then open the app. I believe in normal Android, this app is widget based and for Remix therein lies the problem.
I have attempted to check open in full screen mode and normal mode with no improvement in either case.
Please consider adding widget support for those of us who do have requirements for widgets.

I just checked with the product manager and it appears that widget support was taken away from Ultratablet global users while the Chinese ROM kept it. I'm entirely sure why as the person in charge at the time is no longer on the project.
In any case, we'll add it to features that will show up in the next update. The ETA, I suspect for the next update is within a couple of weeks.

I've just shared your comment with the product manager. For the past week or so, we've been trying to reproduce the issue without success. The closest our Ultratablets come to "stuttering" is that audio (for apps like spotify, soundcloud, etc) will lag for a split second after the Ultratablet goes to sleep. After that, on our Ultratablets, the audio returns and plays normally.

@RemixOS_Jason, I thank you for your quick response. But I am very puzzled that the problem can not be reproduce by your team. Have you tried with the keyboard attached and tablet running on battery only?
A quick solution would be to send the tablet that you have that is working without suttering to me and I will send you my tablet, OK?
I've got lots of complains about this tablet. I upgraded my Remix Mini pledge after raising a question about the Ultratablet's relatively old SOC and potential future support. Of course I was told that there's nothing to worry about and that it's a fully capable SOC that will receive enough future support. The Ultratablet was practically abandoned a mere year after its release, and I don't see the Mini getting any more than "Security and stability" updates, so we basically can forget about new features here.
I barely use my Ultratablet mainly because it's so damn buggy! Not to mention the usual stutter and not-so-fluid interface. I think those are the reasons even you guys stopped using it. If you were using your own tablet for only a few hours a week, I'm sure you'd find enough bugs to fix that'd keep you busy for another year.
And how about backporting new features back to the Ultratablet?
But if you insist only on bugs, let me make a short list for you:
1. It's impossible to simulate a right-click on tablet-mode (without a keyboard). Let's say you want to access the right-click menu of a running application on a taskbar without a keyboard - it's impossible to do.
2. There's a 50% change that the trackpad will miss my double-click action for opening apps.
3. Suddenly closing apps - this one is weird. I opened Chrome a couple of minutes ago, looked away for a second and it was gone. Same goes for other apps. Mostly happens with the Play Store (might be easier to find).
4. Battery life is still BAD. I started writing this post with around 90% , and now I have 71%. This is NOT normal by any means. You look at less than two hours normal usage. My phone got a smaller 3000mah battery and a QHD display and with the same usage PLUS cellular connectivity and Bluetooth on all the time I'd get triple if not more usage time.
5. When minimizing fullscreen apps, you'd get like a second of black screen time before the next app/desktop shows. Seems like a small thing but can sometimes drive you mad!
6. We used to have 5GHz network support on OS 1.5. Now it's gone! Plus, it doesn't pick as many networks as my other devices sitting right next to it.
I can go on all day about my problems with this device, and there are other, more critical bugs that I just can't remember now, since the last time I used this device was like a month ago (and that also lasted no more than an hour).
I'm willing to help provide logs/screen records or whatever necessary to get a better understanding of the issues I brought above.
I'm of course on the latest 2.0.305 version.

As for the usage test, I'm using Spotify to stream music. Then, I set display sleep to 30sec. After it goes to sleep, the playlist continues to play without stuttering. The closest we've come to reproducing your issue is when I'm in SoundCloud, it will pause for half a second when the display goes to sleep. But then, the music picks back up without issue and continue playing.

OK so from what I can gather looking at this forum and various stuff on the web the issues with this phone are (not in order of importance)
1. UI lags. However, this can be overcome via a 3rd party launcher and some 'Nand' hacks? which pardoxicallly means limited app memory again !
2. The GPS is unreliable. It can be fine one time and refuse to lock on another time?
3. The WiFi connection is also unstable for many users?
4. The battery life is not very good out of the box but improves after a few recharges? However, its still difficult to get a full day if using it heavily?
5. Samsung have a poor record when it comes to updates. There is no guarantee when / if the phone will be updated so it should be bought based solely on the features it has today?
Have I got this about right ? Anything missing or just wrong ? Are there any known fixes for issues 2 and 3 above.
Please note this not an attack on the phone I am considering buying and, as much as possible, I want to understand upfront what the issues are.
Don't forget Kies is rubbish and there's no apps for Android on the Kies marketplace, despite what the manual says.
If you are on a Mac (and presumably Linux) you have to enable USB debugging mode to be able to mount it as a USB storage device.
1 and 2 applies to my phone and I must be having a memory leak issue. My available memory drops pretty steadily throughout the day even after killing all the apps with a task manager. I need to reboot once or twice a day or the phone dips below 100mb. My guess is this is also the cause of the laggy UI.
My gps is quick to get a fix but it drops often for no good reason.
The wifi has been flawless for me, I'm on a 802.11n only network.
My battery is ok, not great but not bad either.
I still love this phone and I would buy again even with these minor annoyances.

1- pretty minor problem IMO, i don't bump into it a lot. Let's see what samsung will do.
2- From what i see, after upgrading a firmware the problem is solved, in most of the cases.
3- Seen reports, but i didn't bump into problems with it even once.
4- After comparing with a nexus one, an HTC desire and a motorola milestone, i can clearly say that currently, after 5-7 charges, the SGS has the best battery in the android market.
I manage to squeeze over 3 days of moderate use from my device, or 2 days of heavy use.
5- I can't really say anything about it, samsung does have a poor support record for it's devices.
I'm running firmware XXJF3
1.Lag) applies to me, with any launcher. it's ok most of the time, but when it happens it is very annoying.
2.GPS) No problems so far. Not using it much for navigation, thus. Just for stuff like checking into foursquare and buzz.
3.WiFi) No problems now. I had a strange problem with wlan not working at all at my first day with the device, but I did a factory reset once and since then I never had any problems with networking anymore.
4.battery life) Everything just as with the nexus one or G1: I need to charge it at least once a day, unless I do not really use it.
5.update support) It's annoying, and it's a shame. But except for the nexus one, there are not really better alternatives with better update support out there. At least here in Europe. Motorola and HTC and Sony all abandon their devices after a few month as well.
We can only hope that Samsung thinks this is something that is worth doing better than in the past, and better than the competition currently does. Or that building custom ROMs based on upcoming Android Versions on the Galaxy S is not going to be as difficult as psychoace thinks.
If Samsung fixes the blackout/lag issues soon with a new firmware, I'm going to keep the device. Most of the time it is a great mobile. I even like touchwiz 3.

1. Yes I get lag. Very irritating on the supposed "most powerful phone around". On original jf 3 firmware though, but will surely try the new rom from modaco as I don't think I could live with this in the long term.
2. Only time I tried to use google navigation, it let me down badly.
3. Generally been ok but for the first time today I had wifi icon but no internet connection. Had to restart phone (toggling had no effect).
I've had other issues as well, complete lock ups, mass storage randomly not working, and other weird seemingly random behaviour.
Overall, so far this has been a frustrating device to live with. Things can only get better I hope.

Problems I've got with the Acer A500:
GPS is very weak. I get the best reception with the back of the unit facing the sky but in normal orientation I'm lucky to get 5 sats.
Compass doesn't work, always 90deg off
Digitizer unresponsive 3 times, had to power off each time. Strangely enough, the last time this happened the buttons at the bottom (home, menu, etc) still worked but nothing responded when tapped on the main screen area.
Have to be careful about plugging and unplugging items while the device screen is off. The headset icon is still showing in the tray after having disconnected a cable last night when the screen was off. Have seen problems where external USB devices aren't scanned if the screen is off.
System shut down 1 time after showing a low power notice. I was at 80%. Haven't had this happen again.
Market, Maps, Firefox crash a lot. The latter is probably Mozilla's fault but the core apps shouldn't be this crash-happy.
Bluetooth sharing only shows visible devices and not paired devices. What's the F-ing point of pairing if I have to make a device visible before I can send a file to it?
No media scanner notification. It takes a while to scan external USB media and there's no indication the scanning is going on. The only indication that it's done is when media starts appearing in apps like gallery. On older revs of the OS there is a notice that scanning is ongoing.
Copy/paste annoying. Especially that you can't paste if there's no text in your editor!!! In 2.2 you tap once to bring up the picker/caret (don't know what the google term is) and you tap that to get a popup menu for copy/paste/delete. On the Acer you have to double-tap to select text and only then do you get a menu on the top of the screen. Trouble is, if you have no text in your document you can't paste because there's no text to select!
Can't turn the d**n sound off on the camera.
Have to drill down into the settings turn the "ringer" off to mute the system. Why isn't there a dropdown icon for that?
Some of these are certainly Acer's fault and are related to hardware specific to this device. The UI elements I'm left wondering about. This is the only Gingerbread device I've really used and I can't tell how much is default behavior and how much Acer messed with the OS and borked it.
It's possible I've become spoiled by the devs on XDA. I'm coming from a Vibrant and the dev action is furious with that device. I've regularly upgraded my device with new ROMs on the order of every 2-3 weeks since October and I'm currently using 2.2.1 on my phone.
Given that the bootloader is locked (and encrypted?) I'm thinking dev action isn't going to happen real soon and I'm further thinking about returning this. I hate the idea of doing that because in a lot of ways this is a really nice tablet. It's got the form factor and weight I want. It's responsive. wifi is good enough for my purposes and I can carry it throughout home and work with no connection problems. I've found ways to make it part of my device chain (doc markup, blogging, reading, music playing) and the price was was low enough for me to give it a try. For the most part I like the device.
Trouble is, the bugs are like having someone standing next to you randomly poking you in the ribs. It's not enough to call the police but if he doesn't stop I'm going to punch him in the nose. With the Acer the bugs aren't bad enough for me to throw it out the window but they're getting bad enough that this thing may get returned.
For those in the know, how much of what I've complained about is normal Gingerbread and how much has Acer likely borked?
For reference my kernel is 2.6.36.3-00001-g9b3ce2b and build is Acer_A500_1.104.02_COM_GEN1

Well, I think your thread is misleading. Tablets are new and there are going to be flaws in new products. That's why you don't buy the first new model of a car. But if you're going to, then understand there is always risk.
1. I have had no problems with the GPS.
2. I have had problems with the compass, but nothing unusual for a digital compass.
3. Unresponsiveness happens with pretty much every device. Mine has been unresponsive like 5 times already, but a power down and then up again fixes it beautifully. It's like a nice reminder to clear the system and make it run faster. This doesn't necessarily have anything to do with Acer. It could be Honeycomb.
4. Apps crashing. Happens. I'd think that it's Honeycomb, rather than Acer.
5. I've seen the headset icon on when I didn't have any headphones in. Oh no! Stop the presses! This occurs, sure, but that could be Honeycomb, not Acer. Also, are we sure it's not the music icon?
6. Bluetooth profiles are limited. Sure. But maybe that's a reminder to us all that Bluetooth is awful technology. This one is probably Acer.
7. Copy and paste, although annoying, isn't Acer.
8. Right now, it's not proper to open the bootloader for everyone. Don't hold that against any company.
Most of the things you mentioned really might have to do with Honeycomb rather than Acer. So don't trash the wrong company.
Now given that it's Honeycomb instead, it's new. It will have bugs and problems. Sit and wait or learn the trade and get in there and fix it.
Or wait until a future generation product.
Problems I've got with the Acer A500:
Digitizer unresponsive 3 times, had to power off each time. Strangely enough, the last time this happened the buttons at the bottom (home, menu, etc) still worked but nothing responded when tapped on the main screen area.

Have to be careful about plugging and unplugging items while the device screen is off. The headset icon is still showing in the tray after having disconnected a cable last night when the screen was off. Have seen problems where external USB devices aren't scanned if the screen is off.

Ya, I'm pretty much in the rorytmeadows and ardatdat camp. Considering Acer did very little to their OEM copy, I'd place the blame for a lot of the issues on HC.
The compass is definitely finicky. I've only ever got a solid read when my GPS was tracking - when it's not, the compass is definitely off (using GPS Essentials here which could also be an app issue). If there is a common degree variance, this can be coded in/out. Also, orientation matter - whether you have it in portrait, facing you, landscape facing up... There's a difference and the gyro checks.
I understand where some of you guys are coming from re. new releases having bugs. I can't accept that viewpoint. I paid for this device and while a few bugs are to be expected these days, some of the problems amount to beta level bugs that should have never left the factory.
If there were going to be regular releases of updates I'd feel differently but it seems clear that releases will likely only come from the devs and only after jumping through the hurdles and hoops that Acer has put in their way.
I think the A500 was worth trying but I'm still not sure it's worth keeping.
A BETA bug is something that is consistent (across all testware) and repeatable. Nothing you listed falls near that.

I think we'll have to agree to disagree. The general level of bugginess shown by the complaints in this forum alone cause me to classify this (and many other android devices) as beta.
With so many people willing to be paying testers, the manufacturers don't have any incentive to behave differently.

I don't see it. Maybe I'm biased *shrug* The majority (not all, of course) complaints or issues with the a500 (be them HW, SW or HC related) on this (and other) forum are sporadic and inconclusive. Not a lot of serious testing happening and a complaint like 'my gps can't see any satellites' doesn't mean a whole lot without more granular info. It doesn't help and it certainly shouldn't be used as part of a rationale. You gotta take those kinds of half-thought out complaints with a grain of salt.

I read this all the time - with games mostly, but the argument is the same.
How when a new game is released (pick your poison) you're bound to get a very small, thought vocal, minority who dig their nails into the support section complaining about 'players are paying to be testers' - or - 'their computer should be able to play it' etc. The argument being, 'it's suppose to act the way I want it to act' when in fact, that is never the case. With games, with hardware - software. 'It's suppose to act the way they want it to act' - We're just consumers. We consume. They create, we consume.
Now, I'm not trying to discount the importance of your view (I know it reads like I am but I'm not trying too - just trying to further the discussion). You're obviously having issues with the a500 and far be it for me to make lite of them. I think what is key here is that, for the majority of us, there aren't any of these kinds of issues and that, of the ones you listed, few are consistent and repeatable.
So I chalk it up to one of two things - you got a bum tablet or it's user error.

Most of the problems are very repeatable on my machine. In the end, that's the only one I care about and the only one that matters to me.

You're mistaking brief descriptions for incomplete testing or "thoughts.". I haven't described my testing methodology nor put down all the tests I've done because I'm not game for writing a paper on the subject.
I've been around quite a while and have been in development for decades and done my time in QA. I know how to test. Which is part of the point. I'm not running into these problems while doing things that qualify as something a user shouldn't do and I'm really not interested in helping Acer or Google iron out the bugs in their system.

My UI complains stem from behavior that was present in 2.2x and is very different but harder to use in 3.x. They futzed with the UI for no good reason IMO.

Well, it's not user error
I've just factory reset the thing and I'm going to spend a few hours using just the apps I can't live without and leave off the questionable utilities that might be destabilizing the system (widgetlocker, stuff like that) and see where that gets me.
So far it's not good though. 2 market crashes with a stock system.
All very fair and understandable. I've had my share of freezes/lockups and FC. There is no doubt that updates are needed. I'm just not convinced the majority of the issues are Acer related, but rather, Honeycomb related.
Hey Michael do us a favor and return it. I am having none of the issues you have listed with mine with the exception of some FC apps, but I attribute this to the apps not being optimized for HC since the tablet specific apps work perfect.
Sounds like you got a bum tablet, so you have 3 options. 1) keep it and keep complaining and hope you or another dev can fix your problems. 2) exchange it for a new 3) return it and wait a year or so til HC is more stable and out of this "beta" phase.

I'm not really expecting people to supply resolutions to the problems I've seen. It looks like most of them are problems with the first release. Some could be due to my personal usage patterns (apps I have installed) but others are clearly out of box bugs.
It may be that I need to bite the bullet and get a larger version of my phone (Samsung), which I've been very happy with. Like many people I wanted to pay as little as I could. May be that I went too low for my expectations.

If I can crash the market by browsing my paid apps after having done a factory reset and without having installed anything I would say they haven't met the minimum necessary to release the device.
The market is a core component of the system. If that's unstable, the whole device is suspect.
Why did you start this thread knowing that no matter what good things are said about the tablet, nothing would change your mind. If you are not happy with the device then return it and go on. The majority of the owners here are very satisfied with both the hardware and software of the Acer. I don't think anyone was expecting HC to run as smooth as apple os and if these were your expectations then you will never be happy for the time being.
Again, I'm assuming you started this thread hoping someone would agree with you, but the fact is that most of us do not. Your problems are way out of the ordinary and for all intended purposes unacceptable in this device. So again, return it. Your not doing yourself any service by keeping a faulty product.

michaelh99 have you considered posting a bug report to Google? For what it's worth, it may at least bring the issues you're having to their attention. It's placating but it can't hurt.

I got my Geeksphone Peak a few days ago, and have already ran into some problems, that I believe some others may experience at some point in the future as well, when the device gets out to the public. I have therefore decided to make this thread to report issues and solutions, along with answering peoples questions about the phone.
First off, be aware of that the phone uses a standard size sim card, so if you plan to use it with a SIM card, you will have to get one of those old big SIM cards.
Second, you will without doubt want to debug your apps on the phone. The easiest way to do this, is by using the Firefox OS simulator v3, that allows you to push apps to the phone. To do this you will have to enable remote debugging on the phone, which was recently changed from enabled to disabled by default. Enable remote debugging by going to Settings -> Device information -> More information -> Developer. If you are using Linux, you will now have to add a value to the file /etc/udev/rules.d/51-android.rules: 'SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ATTR{idVendor}=="05c6", MODE="0666", GROUP="plugdev"'. The idVendor ID is found using lsusb.
I do not know how to use remote debugging on Windows or Mac, and would be glad if someone would be able to contribute with this information. I will update this post when I discover more flaws and fixes

I received mine yesterday. To me, the build quality is mediocre. The back is quite hard to remove to insert the battery and SIM card. When the back is removed, I saw "Engineered in Spain", "Made in P.R.C". The screen is average. Perhaps I'm pixel peeping, but I can feel the grid of pixels when viewing images on it. It's a developer phone, but I did expect a better build.
Certainly order one if you are a developer.
I got my Peak two days ago.
Materials and assembly is more or less what I expected. Clearly not a Sony but it is not so bad, in my view.
So far I have only connected via wifi, do not use the SIM yet. Once connected the first thing to do is upgrade. The process of downloading a 100MB and install the update was fast enough.
However, after using it for a couple of days I've noticed a lot of problems with connectivity. The worst is that sometimes fails to reconnect to wifi after unlock.
It is always very quick to complain lack of connection: is unable to access the sites for Mobile Twitter or Facebook, for example, as does access to regular Google. It's as if only Google respond fast enough to keep active navigation.
Well, this is a beta edition and it will sure get better, but today is all that I can bring on the Peak.

Either of you know how well this works on t-mobile? I see that t-mobile supports the 1900 band in my area, but I'm still not sure about how well tmo will work in general (as I do leave this city on occasion). I'd love to know. Also, it's a pity that it doesn't do HSPA+ so I'd like to know about the speed as well if possible. Thanks and you guys are lucky to have the phones. I've been watching the site like a hawk since day 1 and haven't managed to grab one.

I know on Windows, push to device is not supported in the simulator as of now, I am not 100% sure if it supported on Mac, but it is supported on Linux.
the simulator was just updated to version 3 and should have push to device for every OS now.

Hello, I have order the Geekshone Peak and it got the day also delivered. Unfortunately, I discovered that the Rear camera does not work. The Front Camera is working without problems.
Although it can be switched in the menu from the front camera to the rear camera, but the lens is then this is not activated.
Is this normal fault at the moment? If the Rear Camera not currently supported by the OS?

I only own a Keon, but: These devices are for developers and geeks that don't get mad when something breaks, not your parents. Wait for a consumer device.

It looks like the Peak is using the same chipset with HTC Desire X, which seems to have an alpha version of CM9:

I've noticed a UI lag when switching between apps or transitioning from an open app to home screen. This didn't happen in the Android 10 beta rom. Anybody have the same issue? I clean flashed the stable android 10.
I can confirm this issue in the stable release. But I would like to add that this lag was already in the beta release and is in my testing not app specific. I would clear the cache and make a reboot.
Go into developer options and disable the three animation types. Everything runs MUCH faster with them off.

I have, and while it does suppress animations, it actually feels less polished. And anyway, it does not resolve the UI lag which is really visible when using th app switcher. It's dropping below like 10fps. As if some gfx acceleration was disabled or the phone was completely overwhelmed
Anyone found a fix? I experience the lag every once in a while, though it's prevalent enough to be annoying.
I am having this literally every time i use the alt-tab like feature. Oneplus managed to **** up the one thing (butter smooth) Google has been bragging about for several versions ???

I have been reading up on the A10 stable release posts and I saw a lot of people mentioning the issue that you are talking about here.
Many of them suggested a full format. So basically setting up your device as a new device.
I cannot confirm if this works for everyone but a lot of people are saying that after a fresh install they are not facing any issues.
All of the points mentioned above are just what I read from xda and op forum posts. I personally have not made the switch yet and probably wont be doing so soon.

I think I fixed it for me though.
In my case it seemed that the OLED always on screen (which shows notifications and the time) was the problem in my case. It would always show that there are notifications even if there weren't any and that started adding up. So while the rest of my phone ran buttery smooth, the notification bar and lockscreen began looking like a Diashow. 2-5 fps sometimes. What I think is happening is that all these notifications are buggy and the always on screen can't get rid of them.
So my fix was turning that off and then restarting my phone. Since that everything runs smooth again.
If there is another thread I should post this to please tell me but I only found this one.

I think the issue is just : it's a ****show of awful coding, optimisation and non-existent testing. If manufacturers' programmers put in half the effort debugging their software we as "powerusers" at xda/reddit/... put twisting our brains in and out trying find correlating explanations and workarounds as to why we get UI lags or other absurd bugs (like 5GHz wifi not working anymore) on the 10th ****ing iteration of Android, we wouldn't have all of this. It all boils down to the general idea that because it is consumer grade product, quality check is just a non-subject. Apparent quality is just enough at product launch, and further updates (if they do get round to releasing them) can brake everything without manufacturers being held accountable.
The update showed up on my phone on the 25th, but, I'm NOT updating. 9 is too damn stable for me, & I don't see any "features" in 10 that will benefit me.
After reading all this i am not going to update to 10. Yet happy with 9.17.

Maybe this is a google keyboard issue or something? I notice the issue most in the Microsoft Teams mobile app. It also tends to only happen when at least 2 apps are open, if it's on it's own, it seems to do fine.
This might just be coincidence but I went into dev settings and turned on "strict mode" and now I can't get it to lag like it previously did.
I just looked at my running services (dev options > running services) and saw that my Bluetooth was using 2.2GB of ram, and youtube was 1.7GB of that. I toggled bluetooth off, then back on and it reset this. I have not modified the strict mode setting above... still have not had any lag, will update this thread if I do get more lag.

Lagging issue I've seen many reporting in xda on the stock rom OOS 10.3.0. But 5GHz is working as expected. I can confirm it because I'm using 5GHz WiFI now and then

After a night/day of normal testing with this, where I would normally have issues, I have not had and of the lag I mentioned above. This seems to have fixed some things. So, I would suggest that you first check to see what running processes are using all the ram, and then turn on strict mode in dev settings, if that doesn't solve your issues. I also have Ram Boost option turned off.
I experience the FPS drop quite often after the update. It's especially noticable when scrolling pages, switching between apps, pulling down the upper panel. The slowness seems to disappear temporarily after closing all apps. But I can't say that some particular app causes the lag.
UPD: A simple test to recreate the problem. I push the square button to switch between apps. Start swiping finger left-right and watch the animation smoothness. After 5-10 seconds comes the wave of low FPS, which lasts for a couple of seconds. Then the process repeats. The slowness doesn't seem to depend on some exact apps that are open.
UPD2: Well, I've just found out that the problem isn't constant throughout the day. There must be some connection to applications running in the background or something like this.

As Android 10 and above seem to be a bit sluggish for this device, I decided to make an Android 9 LineageOS 16.0 build for my soon 9 year old SM-T800 tablet. It seems to be much smoother and stable then Android 10 and even while doing heavy web browsing, watching YouTube in 1080p or using Google Maps navigation in satellite mode, nothing crashed for me. The only issue I found is that the tablet gets a bit hot when actively using it. To sorta mitigate the issue, I recommend rooting the device, installing a kernel manager and limiting the CPU frequency to 1700MHz (where default is 1900MHz). The ROM itself has been very stable to use, only camera video recording and fingerprint scanner are not working as of now.

As Android 10 and above seem to be a bit sluggish for this device, I decided to make an Android 9 LineageOS 16.0 build for my soon 9 year old SM-T800 tablet. It seems to be much smoother and stable then Android 10 and even while doing heavy web browsing, watching YouTube in 1080p or using Google Maps navigation in satellite mode, nothing crashed for me. The only issue I found is that the tablet gets a bit hot when actively using it. To sorta mitigate the issue, I recommend rooting the device, installing a kernel manager and limiting the CPU frequency to 1700MHz (where default is 1900MHz). The ROM itself has been very stable to use, only camera video recording and fingerprint scanner are not working as of now.

This build is SELinux Permissive!
Flashing instructions (clean flash):
Ensure you're on the latest Marshmallow firmware for your tablet
Use LATEST OFFICIAL TWRP, or LineageOS recovery (attached with the ROM)
Wipe Data and System partitions from recovery
Flash ROM zip from internal storage, SD Card, USB OTG or ADB sideload
Flash GApps (optional, my recommendation is OpenGApps 9.0 arm pico or nano)
Flash Magisk (optional)
Reboot and voila!
Otherwise, this ROM is good for users who wants better smoothness and stability and doesn't want to downgrade all the way down to Android 7.1.
If anyone wants a build for a model different than chagallwifi, tag me and I can try to build (You'll have to test it yourself!).

For cpu temperatures/speed limits,
Which cpu govenor in the kernel did you use?
You could build a version with the kernel limiting to 1700Mhz so people need to mess around with root.
I recommend upgrading the thermal pads inside the tablet as well

The current governor I used is schedutil, I'll try setting it to interactive and limiting the CPU frequency next build

I currently can't find the cause of the sensor not working. It reaches the fingerprint setup successfully, but holding or sliding my finger on the home button doesn't seem to do anything.
Hi Just a quick question.. my understanding is that android 9 does not support dark mode, that your screenshot almost seem to suggest that it does.
my reason for asking is that I am visually impaired, and really can't read anything on a white background. anyway just wanted clarification before I try out this rom.

Hi! Android 9 has a partial dark mode. The built in system apps as well as the system UI is dark, but third party apps do not support this dark theme and are light by the default. Many third party apps can be manually set to dark theme.

thanks, I think I'll give it a crack, i'm using the latest Lineage 20 build from another thread and to be honest it's super buggy lol. If this doesn't work out I can always go back to the 17.1 build which was actually pretty stable, but as you point out it's a bit on the sluggish side. Cheers
Or you might try unofficial LineageOS 18.1 (A11) which perfectly supports dark theme. I'm running it on my SM-T805 without any problems.

The problem I found with A10+ ROMs is that some slightly graphics heavier apps or even Google Maps in the browser can crash itself or even lock up the tablet completely.
For those graphics apps I can't tell. But Google Maps I use a lot and it's absolutely stable.

The app itself works fine, but the Google Maps website will likely crash when it's opened in a browser when starting to navigate around the map. And there are many other websites that do crash the browser as well.

Watching youtube works fine, as that's all i do with this tablet now, other than checking my email. Setting up the e-mail did freeze the tablet a couple of times

So I tried out this rom and wanted to report back my findings.
I found it to be both stable and fast, but there were a few issues, which has led me back to 17.1 LuisROM which given my particular needs really does seem to be the best option. I have actually tried both18 and 20, but neither of them are as stable as17.1, at least based on the particular set of apps I use.
Anyway, the issues I had were:
1) the partial dark mode support was certainly not bad, but given the fact that apps don't follow the system theme, and I could find no way of setting the Google app to dark mode, it was less than ideal. this is no fault of the build at all It's just a limitation of being Android 9, and I imagine for most people it would not be an issue nor a reason not to use this ROM
2) I had a weird issue when I shut the tablet down and plugged it in to power source. The battery icon showed and and then the tablet froze up, so that if I disconnected it from the power source the battery icon still continued to display and the only way to boot it back up was to press and hold the home key, volume down and power. this would seem to suggest there is an issue with the Kernal/ boot loader.
3) I have the official Samsung case with built-in keyboard, but there appeared to be a problem with bluetooth and I simply could not get it to connect. this was the deciding factor like to go back to 17.1

Hello, I'm sorry for the issues you experienced with the ROM. I checked both of the issues and the offline charging issue seems to be there for me too. As you mentioned, it might be related to kernel, but I sadly can't find the actual cause of it as I'm still pretty new new to the world of Android development and I'm still learning how everything works. The Bluetooth issue is something I have now experienced as well. I tried connecting a pair of BT earbuds and they seem to be stuck at connecting at the Bluetooth page in settings. For now I'll update the known issues with those two bugs and maybe one day I'll find out what causes them. And by the way, since you now installed Android 10 on your tablet, how is it for browsing sites? Do sites crash often? Since this is the main thing I use the tablet for (and occasionally watching YouTube and navigation in the car).

Hey there,
I wouldn't exactly call myself a power user, but I have not suffered a single website crash on the particular build I am using, Which I believe was created by a very knowledge Developer last year. It might be worth noting that I use Samsung Internet browser, Which in my opinion offers by far the best overall experience, Including a flawless dark mode option that seems to work for every website.
One thing I will mention about the spilled is that the developer seems to have gone AWOL and the download link to his builds no longer works. That said, I have a copy of the build on my google drive, download link SM-T800 Lineage 17.1
Give it a spin and see what you think, Overall I'm very happy with its stability and performance. Because of my visual impairment I mostly use audio based apps, such as Google Podcast, Audible, Poweranp Pro, But I also occasionally use Newpipe and VLC player and again, have not had any issues.
PS Good on you for creating your own build, I almost considered trying to do it myself but it's just too much to take on considering I can hardly see the screen lol
