No Network - Zuk Z1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi good people, I am facing a problem. Around 8 hours back I tried calling someone but the call didn't connect so I restarted the phone and then I lost the network. I tried reboot, flashed different ROMs (unofficial CM14, cm13 nightly build n MM nougat backup), tried with GAPPS and without GAPPS but the problem is persisting. I even tried swapping the Sim cards before that but of no use. I tried debugging by using *#*#4636#*#* but ping test is failed and also there is "TURN RADIO ON" I believe ideally it should be "TURN RADIO OFF". please have a look at the screenshots. I'm almost dying without making important calls.
Update: Guys I have got it working.. Kindly look into my below posts. Please don't misguide people for small issues.
Thanks

In the screenshot we can also see, GSM SERVICE IS OFF. it stays the same even after clean flashing a new custom ROM.

Got it working. Flashed latest COS ROM file however the situation was still the same. Then I removed sim, switched on airplane mode restarted. After reboot inserted Sim then again restarted n then I got the signal
1. Removed Sim card, switched on airplane mode from both power menu and notification toggle.
2. Restart, inserted Sim card and switched off airplane setting from setting. (Notification toggle and power menu didn't work) then got the network.
Please note I tried with only one sim in sim 1 tray. Later I got the network for 2nd sim as well

Which rom did you flash and what was your method of flashing?
You also said simply flashing didn't work. It was what you did with reboot, aeroplane mode and taking out and reinsert the Sim that worked?

I've had the same problem for almost a month now... and i gave my phone to the service center. They called up to inform me that its a motherboard failure and they'll fix it.. I'll provide further info when I get my phone back (probably in 3-4 days)
P.S I tried almost every method to make it work. So if you couldn't make it work in first 2 days or so, dont waste your time and just give it for the servicing (make sure its in Stock OS so that they dont ask any questions about root xD )

I flashed almost every latest ROM. But no ROM got the network back. So as a last resort I flashed COS 12.1 and still didn't get the network. Then I removed both the sims, activated flight mode restarted the device, left it couple of minutes and inserted only one sim in first slot. Holla I got the network. Then everything is back to normal
If u r facing the same problem I would suggest u to activate flight mode n restart. If it doesn't work try by removing sim cards, if it still doesn't work try COS 12.1.

Usual procedure of flashing. Wipe cache, dalvik, system and data. Flash ROM + Gapps. Reboot

Try to search in the forum. There is a lot of threads with the same problem with the Zuk Z1. It is a hardware problem.

Your modem and baseband sections may be damaged. Modem structure is hidden under qualcomm structure. To Access and repair those sections, you need to do some modifications. I managed to make my Zuk Z1 worked again with some tweaking. Altering that part of the phone is illegal due to its restricted elements such as IMEI number. That's why I cannot post a tutorial here. İt is not allowed. However, I can help you if you personally contact me. I hope you get your signal back soon.

Please follow xda rules and don't tell people illegal things where they get in trouble. Keep in mind, that's not an illegal forum

Sure thing but I have already mentioned it. I didn't post anything illegal. So, take it easy.

Not Registered on Network

Hi guys,
I recently picked up a used S4 on Craigslist for cheap because the guy "screwed up" using Odin and flashed something that caused his phone to not register on any networks. I figured, what the hell, it's cheap enough and I might be able to restore it. So far I've restored the Rogers firmware over Odin and tried installing a custom rom/recovery too. I'm still getting this problem unfortunately. The IMEI reported with *#06# and in the status screen does match the sticker on the inside of the phone.
So I'm sure everyone's going to suggest that the phone was stolen and the IMEI has been blacklisted. My provider (Fido/Rogers) apparently doesn't care if the IMEI is blacklisted, they'll let it run anyway. I called up Fido anyway (since I'm a Fido customer) and asked them about the IMEI of this phone and they say they don't have any record of anyone calling in reporting it stolen and they don't have an IMEI database so she didn't have much to say about it.
Does anyone have any other suggestions? I've also flashed just the kernel, and I will flash a modem onto it too. I know my SIM card works, and both my SIM card and the last owners SIM cards don't work. I know the radio works because it picks up the emergency signal fine, and the SIM tray isn't damaged because when I put in my Fido SIM the Fido APN's automatically come up, as well as the lock screen goes from "No SIM inserted" to "unregistered SIM." Could my EFS partition be borked? Wifi works and IMEI shows up correctly.
The buyer said he would take the phone back if I can't fix it, but I want to try a bit more before I give up. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions, that would be great. Thanks a lot in advance XDA!
Summary:
-Used S4
-Owner flashed something wrong in Odin
-Gets "Not registered to network" error, unregistered SIM error
-Tried restoring
-Tried new ROM/Recovery
-Carrier says IMEI is fine, also tried directly registering the IMEI to my account
-IMEI is correct in settings/sticker on back of phone
-Wifi/everything else all works
Sounds like it's SIM locked to a different network. Try the the guide here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2285431

My girlfriend has a Bell sim, which when we insert, gives us the "Please enter unlock code" screen.
My sim does not do that. I know this device is for my carrier, but I figure the easiest way to get this going is to just unlock it and see if the problem persists on other networks.
I've tried that unlock tutorial before. The first time I tried it, when I just got the phone from the previous owner, it said "Golden-backup does not exist" so I couldn't do the restore step of that guide. After Odin-flashing everything and starting over, I can't even get into the UMTS menu anymore! I'll try another restore and give it another go though.
Edit: Another problem. I did a restore again using Odin and notices that it never properly wipes the phone. When I finish flashing, my Wifi still autoconnects on first boot, and every few seconds, a process crashes causing the phone to freeze. Has anyone heard of this kind of problem before?
Quick update:
Managed to Odin-flash it to the earliest firmware I could find for the phone without any crashing or freezing problems. Trying to do the network unlock method mentioned online. It does not work, even though I'm following the instructions to a T. Could it be that my EFS partition is borked and that the NV rebuild can't happen, meaning my radio configuration would also be borked?
Edit: Oh and when I booted up my phone for the first time, the phone was actually ON Fido! But within a few seconds, it went back to "Emergency calls only."
Hmm, that is some odd behavior, and definitely not a carrier lock. Shame it's never that simple to fix.
Not quite the same as your issue, but I lost my ability to make and receive calls after flashing a newer modem on an AOSP firmware. Flashing custom kernels, older modems, the latest stock rom and kernel were no help at all. I tried everything I could think of short of groveling. In the end the only way I got everything working again was to flash the original factory firmware my phone shipped with, factory wipe it from stock recovery, then flash it again. If you've already tried that (and I'm guessing you have), consider contacting Samsung regarding warranty. They've been really good to me in the past, even with second-hand phones.
I can confirm that Odin doesn't clean everything out. In my trials I also noticed that flashing via ODIN without a factory reset presented no setup wizard, caused lots of FC's and left some previous files hanging around.
Sounds like a bad sim tray.

I had trouble with my handset after it got run over in the street, making it's otterbox earn it's money. The only bad symptom after that episode was Emergency calls only kept recurring.
I cut a tiny square of transparent scotch tape, avoided touching the sticky side, and placed it squarely on the SIM chip's backside, to make it fit the sim slot more snugly. It sounds like you should try stacking two or three layers on your chip as it sounds to be more loose than mine is.
Hi everybody! Thanks for all the help trying to fix it! It ended up being that the guys the previous owner had unlock it used the debug-menu unlock method and my phone was one of the ones that doesn't accept it. Lots of other people complained about similar problems as me in the free unlock method thread. In the end, I paid for the FastGSM USB Unlock method and it fixed the problem.
OH MY GOSH YOU JUST SAVED ME from buying another phone!! THANKS so much.. I added 3 layers of tape on the back of my sim and it works!!! weird.. cause I have the Dual Sim.. and it was the first sim that would not work. the second sim was fine.. anyways.. THANKS SO MUCH!!

Looking for help with my U8800

Hello.
I'm really lost with my phone at the moment. I've tried to upgrade to several custom ROMs, but somehow there's always a thing that isn't working. I've followed the guides on this forum, but it looks like I got lost somewhere in the process and I did something wrong, since there are hundreds of topics and loads of information everywhere.
So, I'd really appreciate it if someone can tell me EXACTLY what to do to get my phone to a stable custom ROM (pref CM, but Aurora looks nice as well) from my current phone's condition.
Here are two screenshots from my phone's Settings-About phone menu.
h ttp://imgur.com/s6btpq6
h ttp://imgur.com/PJQBWRW
The current situation is, that my wifi is not working at all when I enter my simcard, then there's random reboots, it kind of works stable only if I have it plugged in pc(charging), etc.
My current ClockworkMod Recovery version is v6.0.3.3
If possible please add links to stuff that I should work on, Step by step!
Edit: Forgot to mention that I also get the "SIM network unlock PIN" message after I enter SIM PIN. sigh*
Thank you.

Looks like you are currenty using TMC by forumber2. I instelled and removed it because I found Aurora SP (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2295318), which is stable and has a goood battery backup. You can try that.
As long as SIM lock is concerned you can use DFS (http://cdmatool.com/) to unlock the SIM.
I guess you are using the carrier locked phone.
Good luck.

Okay, thanks for the first reply. I'll try to install this ROM, but does that mean that I have to install some official Android version first? It doesn't say anything in that topic, but for some ROMs it's mentioned, and usualy the added links are broken, etc.
And about the SIM lock, I don't know if it was a misunderstanding, or I'm missing something from that website. My SIM isn't locked, but it looks like that my Network adapter is, or however should i call this, I don't have the phone with me atm to exactly describe it, but still. I get the message that i should enter a PIN for my network something, not for SIM unlock.
Is this resolved with installing a new ROM, or do I still need to do something else about it?
Please clarify

I don't think so. I installed it over Lewa ROM. It installs its own kernel, so there is no such dependency.
Just take the backup using recovery to be on safe side.

Did you purchase the phone from specific service provider?
Does it ask for pin when you try to insert another SIM card?
Did you manually set some PIN/PUK code?

Yes I did purchase my phone from a service provider. I didn't have a chance to try another SIM card, but, I've installed a 2.3.5 android version now, and the system is stable, at least I'm fine with that, but the WIFI and bluetooth aren't working. For wireless it says Error when I try to enable it, and bluetooth simply isn't enabling, without giving me any errors.
And no I did not change any PIN/PUK code settings.
At least the phone is working now, but I really have to get the WIFI working, any ideas?

your emei is correct?
if you have used custom partitions you could have lost your emei.

and have you tried to install an official rom again and see if everything is working?

I've checked the IMEI, it's the same as on the back of my phone. It also says "Wi-Fi MAC address / Bluetooth address - Unavailable".
I'll try to install fresh rom later today again. Should I install the same version as I did the last time (2.3.5), or some other one?

What do you mean open them? I can't enable either of them, as I described in one of my previous posts, I get error trying to enable WiFi, and as for bluetooth, nothing happens.

I'm also facing the same issue since yesterday, if you get any solution please update me.
Thanks
Have you guys any update on this? I'm having the same issue. Tried all kinds of resets, flashes, etc. (except for QFIL). It happened to me a few weeks ago too but the phone just started working again after 1-2 days. The issue seems to be that the radio won't turn on. One interesting thing I did notice was that my phone seems to be detecting my SIM as Canadian, which it's not. This occurred when I did a fresh CyanogenMod flash. When doing the initial setup, CyanogenMod flashes up a message about detecting the source location of the SIM card and then sets the language option to match.
I've contacted zuk.eu about it but no word back yet. Not holding my breath. I'll try and get my hands on a SIM card from a different mobile operator after work and see if that makes a difference.
Well, another case of Zuk Z1 with the "no service" (in the shorcuts the airplane mode is off but in the power menu is on even having reset the phone). I wiped everything, I flashed different roms, in the end I flashed with QFIL the stock rom with his recovery, and there is no way to fix the problem.
I'm trying to make a list of users that has happened the same because apparently is not a single fault.

Add me to the list .
Since about 2 weeks I get "no service" with airplane mode in power menu.
I think I had a similar problem some months ago, when I pressed the LTE button in pull down menu. But it was working again after some minutes or reboot or something like this.
I use two sims, and when the problem started 2 weeks ago, I think one of both SIM cards was working longer than the other one.
In the evening I saw, that one of my sim cards (calls + sms) did not have signal (0 bars), but I was not investigating this, because the other SIM (mobile data) was working without problems.
The next morning, the mobile data sim was without signal too and at "no service".
All was on stock rom. Now I tried some CM13 and different kernels, but this did not help anything.
Hopefully there will be something somewhere to get our phones back to work

Apart from you I have found two more cases.
One on one phone repair web and another who has answered my posting on the Zuk Mobile Facebook page.
Airplane mode error fixed?
What sorcery is this?!.
I had already given up with the Zuk Z1 airplane mode always on error. There was no way to remove the message "No Service" even after full wipe and flashed a rom+recovery stock (COS 12) with QFIL.
Several weeks later I decide I'm going to use the phone as a media player, back to flash TWRP recovery with Mauronofrio Tool All In One and install the official CM13 ROM (snapshot 20160418). Before I used the unofficial CM13 version of Coldbird (with the mm-firmware.zip).
A few days later, out of curiosity, I look if the airplane mode is still activated in the advanced power menu and is listed as disabled!. I insert the sim, in the *#*#4636#*#* the radio is on, and now I could make and receive calls (and connect to LTE / H / 3G networks) the last three days without problems, and I've even been in areas without coverage and then the phone reconnected with no problem.... !
Now I'm using the 20160602 nightly CM and Radioactive Reborn Kernel smoothly (only some reboots occasionally). I still do not know what happened with the phone and if it has solved the problem at all or is temporary and will fail again.
@Kausik2888, @gkanaje and @bromän report the same problem in this thread
Hello friends,
Even i am facing the same problem. The phone is always on 'Aeroplane' mode.
I tried CM12.1, CM13 and again flashed the stock ROM, but no use. The phone never comes out of the 'Aeroplane' mode. The GSM Radio status is always OFF and cannot turn on the radio from the phone info menu (*#*#4636#*#*)
Initially it was working fine but since i was not getting good signals inside my room i changed the preferred network from '4G(recommended)' to '3G' and boom !
The phone has lost the signals from that day. The phone detects my simcard, the IMEI's are valid but 'No service' / 'Aeroplane On'
Attaching logcat that i took after i rebooted my phone - https://pastee.org/p4rmf
Am also encountering the sane aeroplane mode problem in lenovo zuk z1 which I bought a month back.. Guys please suggest me the solution what should I do? Is there any way to overcome this problem
For me it was same issue few days back in my Zuk Z1. I read some where that it is 4G band related issue. So, i applied few steps and now it is working -
1. Take sim out from phone (no need to power off). Put aeroplane mode off from both power button option and settings.
2. Power off mobile. Put Sim back in some time (1 hr) and change preferred network from 4G to 3G.

Need Solution for No Network on ZUK Z1

Did clean flash zui 2.5.330 using twrp, phone booted normally but no network, both SIM cards seems disabled. Copied CM 12.1 to the phone, flashed n twrp, phone booted but same issue pertain, and I also tried flashing RR ROM, but in that it shows no SIM Card despite the SIM Cards are present.
When I use *#*#4636#*#*, under phone information unable to toggle/change TURN ON RADIO, it doesn't respond?
Any help be highly appreciated
In what way you flashed zui 2.5.330 i mean though twrp or qfil....
Try to flash using qfil....
This has no solution. Sometimes gets fixed in a day, sometimes doesn't even in weeks.
You can try keep restarting it. This time it's day 5th & I am still facing it.
If you get the network back, try NEVER TO LET IT TURN OFF. I keep it powered on for months & everything goes fine, once powered off due to battery & wao it'll get back

This happens & I have tried imie changers too but that doesn't solve the issue.
Two possible solutions
Insert SIM's while phone is running.
Do a warm start if possible.
I reckon if you do a full reboot the SIMslot starts to late.
Had the same issue.
I've managed to fix the "SIM card is not allowed" problem by entering *#*#4636#*#* -> Phone Information -> Network Type -> Global Auto (PRL). Rom is PixelExperience 8.0. The problem sim card should be in the slot #1.

No sim at start, no network, IMEI is ok

Hello there,
I undertook to unlock the bootloader of my xperia x compact, of course without saving anything (bye the DRM keys), I then used the fastboot to install Paranoid Android v7.2.3, success after the second attempt.
So the phone started very well, but no SIM card recognized at the start of the phone. Possibly PIN code appeared after 10 min of ignition, loop on the "unlocking in progress" and then nothing, no network.
I have been back several times on the official rom via Sony Companion without success. Last night I tried to flash a rom stock with Flashtool. The operation was going well and oh miracle the sim card was detected directly, so I'm configuring the phone and installing all my applications, a reboot after all that and the SIM card had disappeared again.
Since I tried Flashtool several times without success, downgrade to 6.0.1 either.
After hours and hours of research I still do not have the solution, I have crossed several times on forums for the same kind of symptoms but always accompanied by an absent IMEI, but when I type *#06# my IMEI is displayed correctly .
If someone has already encountered this kind of problem I would love to talk to him. Thanks for reading me
Good night
PS: In other bug, the options for developers who freeze or the camera that does not take a picture (freeze when I want to take a picture)
PS2: sorry for my english guys

Yes I have selected my APN, edited as my carrier said. The biggest problem is that the sim card is not detected immediately at startup. And when the sim lock pop up (about 5min after starting the phone) validation of the pin code is much too long to be normal. The code is accepted but I have no network, and when I try to search manually in the settings I have a loop on 'searching'. I think the problem comes from the modem / radio but I do not know too much these points, I just follow tutorials on the internet.
I say start from scratch but use Flashtool

I've already started from scratch with flashtool, several times ...
Some news of my problem.
I have since tried several times to change rom, to flash the modem / radio.
Now my sim card is recognized, but still no network. I have wrote my APN correctly but still nothing.
The network appeared only once after the installation of Paranoid Android, but as in my previous post, after a mobile reboot nothing.
Namely that in the phone information menu, line data service: Disconnected and in this menu enable data connection does not change anything (I can't even enable it). Select radio band gives me 3 choices (Automatic, USA, Japan) and when I click on Automatic I get Set [Automatic] Unsuccessful.
If anyone can help me, I'm really starting to feel hopeless.

Hi, i had the same problem. To enter the pin straight away simply go to the quick settings and check if you have the LTE tile there. If not add it. Then hold down on the LTE tile and it should open mobile data settings and then it takes about 5 seconds and it should ask for pin. I have no idea why it is like so but currently i am on paranoid android 7.3.1 and have no problems. Best wishes!

Someone ?
Something similar happened to me recently and it was fixed by selecting my provider via wireless networks > mobile networks > service providers
In my case AT&T was selected when I chose Tmo and rebooted everything was fine. Good luck.
