Are there any cases for the Moto Z force that work with the Tumi extra battery? - Moto Z Force Questions & Answers

I have the extra Tumi battery on my Moto Z Force and looking for any case that will fit it...so far I'm coming up with nothing. Even something basic. This phone is way to slick on the sides and easily slips out of my hands. I'm about ready to run some small strips on tape down each side...LOL!

Cases
I personally bought Motorola Moto Z Force Incipio Co-molded Bumper Case - Black, just give it a quick Google, it won't let me post links.
But it hasn't arrived yet, claims to be compatible. And of course there's always the one on Verizon's site for 15 bucks, it doesn't have a back to the case and should work.

Here is the link:

I got the bumper from Verizon https://www.verizonwireless.com/accessories/two-tone-bumper-for-moto-z-force-droid-black-gray/?lid=sayt&sayt=moto%20z%20force%20bumper* *currently out of stock* and it works well. I'm really liking that Incipio bumper though. Didn't know about it until now.

Are you sure that is for the Moto Z Force? Looks like it may be for the Moto Z. It may work, but I hear people have had to cut the area where the charger connects.

Thanks for the ebay link to the Verizon bumper. Ordered 2! Just a warning, the Incipio case has to be removed in ordered to switch Moto Mods then put back. I am returning it now that I am able to purchase the Verizon one that allows switching without removal.

Actually, this will not work with the force. asking the seller to cancel order...Dang!
Also, it looks like Verizon doesn't even sell the bumper for the force any more because of the charging porthole location issue.

Incipio has a bumper available and compatible with the Mods https://www.incipio.com/cases/smart...ases/moto-z-force-droid-co-molded-bumper.html

I took an OtterBox defender case and using just the top plastic part of the case slipped it into the rubber outer case and it seems to work fine. Buttons all work, everything is accessible and it clips into the belt clip too! I hate carrying my phone or putting it in my pocket. Hope this helps Motorola users out there, good luck

OtterBox defender case works if you leave the hard plastic back off and using just the top part slip it into the rubber outer case. The buttons and the extra battery all work and it will also go into the belt clip. Hope this helps

What are you clipping it to? What fills the back part in little confused. You have any pics?

Hi zforce case
The extra battery on the back of the phone fills it in. Lay the top half of the case over the phone and slip it into the rubber back half of the case. Then you can clip it into the OtterBox belt clip or use as is.
---------- Post added at 09:57 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:48 PM ----------
The battery mod fills the space that was taken up by the case. Fits snug into the rubber outer case. Just have to get the top half of the case in the rubber outer rear half of the case and make sure it's all lined up and you're good to go

Thanks! Any Chance for Pics?

Great find.
Too bad they don't have one for my tablet yet.
I'll probably pick one up for my EVO 3D, since it's only $3.00.
For Galaxy Nexus...
I have all 3 - Skinomi, XO Skins, and Xtremeguard. Skinomi has the best cut but it's too soft that it would get dinged easily and not all of them would cure. XO Skins had a strange tint (even after a week) and the most orange peel.
Overall, Xtremeguard is the best for me. It's the closest to dry film in terms of surface smoothness and rigidity. The only negative is the cut - it covers the light sensor and there is a wide open cut above the earpiece and camera lens, but I think it's still a better overall protector. It is also has very little tolerance in terms of edge-to-edge size - you'd have to install it exactly and it is stickier and dries faster than the other brands, so little room movement while it's still wet.
Don't get the full body. The the side and back covers are not cut all the way through so it's kinda useless because it would stretch while you're trying to peel them out and detach them from the sheet.
The film quality is excellent though.

I've received 2 full body from them. The second one was a replacement after I complained about the cut, but the replacement was exactly the same. The back and side are useless because you can't peel and detach them from the sheet.

[Q] Nexus 4 dust collection near the earpiece

Hi folks!
I'm norwegian, so my english may not be 100% throughout this post.
I just got my Nexus 4 from my local operator, Telenor, and I have noticed some dust collection in the "gap" between the glass front ant the chrome bezel. I know this is beyond picky, but has anyone else noticed this, AND did a case like the official bumper help?
I haven't tried the bumper yet, since I live in Norway and it is not easy to get that stuff here, so I don't really know how much of the bezel it covers.
Also, how much does it cover the gap between the glass and the plastic compared to the Rearth Ringke Fusion?
Thanks!

I have the same issue - gap on the top between screen and metal frame. I clean it by swiping with a corner of thin paper (like check which you get when buy something). It annoys me pretty much as it is the only defect which i have.
Actually, I created a thread dedicated to this issue some time ago
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=39123021
Hi,
Had to sent my Nexus 4 to had the screen replaced (it fell on the street.. face down..).
Touch screen was not working anymore. Glass was completely shattered.
I chose to had it repaired and got it back the same day.
Here's the strange bit;
I think I will call them again and have my Nexus 4 rechecked under warranty, as the phone did not have the gap between the glass and the frame/bezel before this. Now it's collecting dust, etc en I even see it in front of the front camera (so behind the glass!).
But.. I first want to make sure my original state did not have this problem. Will compare it to my colleague's phone, but she's out today.
Btw, what usually works for me to clean the earpiece, USB port, from dust, to take a piece of 'clay' (by lack of a better explanation) which is used to stick posters to the wall instead of tape.
It looks like clay/chewing gum. You stick it right in and it will get almost all dust and pocket lint out.
---------- Post added at 12:54 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:37 PM ----------
Just a small additional note.
With a screen not properly working, "OK, Google" with the extra funtionalities from the 'Commandr' app can get you a long way with still using the phone.

Chipping on the black version?

Having come from the HTC one S in black I am well versed in chipping problems on metal HTC phones, I have the One now in black and have noticed the first chip in the chamfered edge on the top, if it was the silver version I wouldn't have even noticed but the metal underneath appears a bronze type colour.
I haven't dropped the device and it is only ever in my pocket and I have a nilkin case but it doesn't protect the front edge. I hope this isn't the start of another saga... :crying:
I have 2 scrapes/chips on mine also and it hasn;t been dropped or bumped. Always kept in its own pocket etc..boo
Mines fine, nothing to report so far.

Dude thats not even a chipping....
BUY A PERMANENT GREY/BLACK MARKER for METAL SURFACES at your local pen shop and cover it up, should be invisible and will be good to cure other chippings too.
Oh man! That looks disgusting! I would go for a replacement!
But seriously - no. This is nothing. Let's get some things straight - "premium" feel of aluminum comes at a cost. Aluminum is soft, other stuff in the world is hard. Tiny speck of sand can do such a "damage". So just chill and accept your losses. iPhones 5 were more chipped out of the box.
You really can't eat a cookie and have a cookie. Just accept that no matter how you protect your phone, it will get damaged. You can always completely cover it with a plastic case either to protect it completely or to cover the chipped part if it is ssuch an issue.
I wonder how long it will take people to undertand that "premium" materials have a premium feel and premium look out of the box, but there is nothing premium about their durability. Industrial devices are made to excel in durability. Anodized aluminum and glass are the last materials of choice.

not the silver one, it wont scratch as easily
anyway what do we expect, if you read anandtech's review of the iPhone 5 you would understand this is a physical issue
however it can be countered by a some sort of nano coating which i am yet to see applied on a flagship phone

Chip is if you see the white aluminium base. This is not a chip. I know chips, my HTC One S bounced 3 times on the ground and got 4 chips. (and luckily screen didn't shatter lol)

You can see a base, I am not worried about this tiny chip, what I am worried about is if it is the start of something bigger like the One S. It seems HTC industrial designers have not learned their lesson when it comes to coatings and sharp metal edges.

Looks to me like it didn't anodize properly in that tiny spot. When you say that is shows bronze underneath, that tells me that it did get anodized in that spot, but the growth (yes anodizing could be considered a growth) was not uniform with the rest of the product.
If you didn't know, the anodized coating is similar to microscopic "tubes" that grow on the surface of the aluminum. These tiny "tubes" hold dye to give you the desired color. When you anodize something and it doesn't get enough growth, the color will be less saturated... literally. Hence the bronze color underneath. Think of the color of a black sharpie that is more or less dead... when it is new, it will draw nice and black, when it gets old and dried out, it will give you that faded "bronze" color.
In the end, these "tubes" are sealed holding the color in... I have attached 2 pics to give you a better idea what the coating really is.

Thank you tnEVo, that is a brilliant explaination of how it works.
Silver scratches or dents as easily it's just less noticable.
The problem is not really the color or anodizing when it is of good quality (=thick anodizing and hard aluminium, theres several grades of industrial aluminium and anodizing, cheap ones like on the iphone 5 and sturdy ones that are 3 to 10 times priciers, I don't know yet which one is used on the one), the problem is the chamfered edges.
90° angles are very vulnerable to denting/crushing/impacts and scuffing because thats where the aluminium is thinnest, at the top of each chamfered corners there is the thinnest ever peak of aluminium, and that peak gets damaged the first be it black, or silver or anything because it is the thinnest part of aluminium of the phone (cutting the top of a pyramid is easier than the bottom right ?).
"Now, after using the phone for more than a week, I can say it’s surely one of the best phones out there, if not the best. It’s got issues, for example, with the pretty finish chipping off, but I’m been very impressed in other areas like battery life and camera."
from one of the reviews online

The glass appears to be very soft. Get a screen protector.

I've had my Z3 compact for only 2 days, and I am already noticing micro scratches on the screen. My previous Moto X, which I've had for a year had no scratches on the screen of any kind, and I've never had a screen protector on it.
Anyone else seeing the same thing?
I haven't seen anything yet, but I'm trying to be careful with it lol. Any idea what you might've been doing that could have caused the scratches?

I've never used a screen protector on any of my previous phones, because I generally baby them. So I wasn't planning on using one with the Z3c. The front behaves more like plastic than glass, when it comes to scratches, apparently. None of my previous phones ever developed micro-scratches like this, and with how quickly they developed, this worries me a bit.

Wow didn't really notice this but just checked it under bright light and the upper corner does have a few very thin scratches. Definitely never dealt with this before on any other phone. Well if your phone gets into contact with certain dust/sand particles, then there really isn't a lot of friction needed to create those tiny micro scratches. No phone display can withstand dust/sand+friction. The dust may be in your pocket, or wherever. You might notice the scratches more because this topic has encouraged you to actively start looking for them under very bright light.

My Moto X does not have any micro-scratches after being in the same pockets for over a year. Tapping on the Moto X's glass also feels a lot more dense than than the Z3c. I think Sony used some very thin/soft glass to achieve the "light" feeling of the device, which is going to make it a lot more susceptible to scratching.

Could you upload a video of this tapping sound difference? Keep in mind that the materials surrounding the glass also influence the sound the glass makes when tapped.
It gets the same micro-scratches that I got on my Nexus 5. I never got them on my S3 or HTC One at all, so there must be some minor difference there.
Still, even on the N5, the scratches weren't terribly noticeable except in bright light, and the Z3C has a considerably brighter screen.

Aw come on...
The Handtec one came with a screen protector, but it was just one of those cheap plastic jobbies. They're always way worse than the good tempered glass screen protectors.
Anyone recommend a good tempered glass protector that is currently available?
This doesnt sound to good! Iam coming from a htc one that i have had for almost a year and a half and there is not a single scratch , not even a micro scratch and i NEVER used a screen protector as i find them almost impossible to apply correctly and they take away from the beauty of the display / phone just a tad !! I would be gutted if a new expensive phone was seen to have micro scratches after short use

Folio Case Stuck!

I've just had my official folio case delivered and it is really nice. A very snug fit, too snug... I can't get the damn thing off the phone. I'm terrified to apply any more pressure in case I damage the phone.
I'm on chat to Google as I type this and so far they have suggested sending the case back for replacement. Which is a bit tricky as it is stuck...
Update: It is being escalated but it looks likely that it will be an exchange for new phone and possibly a case. They are looking into whether the case design is too snug or not.

It's the folio case from the play store, hard plastic interior and a leather front and back. It's actually a really nice case. I'm going to wait and see what Google come back with.

I ended up using one of those guitar pick type case openers. Thankfully there was no damage to the phone or the case. Once the case was off, I flexed it several times and this has made the plastic more flexible.

I have had the exact same problem! I felt like I was going to break the phone trying to remove it. I finally managed to remove the Nexus 6p Folio Case without damaging the case nor phone. I made a video showing how I did this. Hope it helps others: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e2-a6SkxSyE

Just watched your video, nice work. I had considered a hot air gun or hair drier to soften it but was concerned that in doing so that I might soften the adhesive used in the phone construction too and any flexing then applied trying to remove the case might weaken the structural integrity of the phone.
My phone now has clear damage where the case touches the phone near the power button. Fortunately Google have been great and they have refunded me the case and have arranged an exchange of phone.
A slight complication if that my SIM is stuck in the phone (trapped by the case). Fortunately, my network make swapping a SIM really easy and I have a spare non-allocated one available. It's likely going to be a pain for others in the same predicament though.
It's a real pity as, as you say in the video, the case is really nice. It just doesn't fit...

Thanks so much for the video. I never would have gotten the case off without the help. I had heard there might be a problem, but already had the case. I initially didn't put in on all the way. But., wow, it's deceiving how easy it goes on vs how hard it is to get off.
There's really a problem with the design (at least the type of plastic used for the back).
For removal I....
I pulled the lower right corner as you showed. Then I bent it back and forth a few times (while holding the case to minimize stress on the phone -> being especially careful where the metal is thin around the pwr/volume buttons) to try and loosen it up..
Then I figured out that the more you pull the lower right, the tighter the lower left. So I put a folded plastic tab (from a hanging folder label) under the lower right and let it go back into position (but no lock around the 6P).
Then I used a cut off piece of plastic (from the same hanging label) to shimmy under the corner on the lower left (starting from the left side and pulling on the corner as I went). I was able to get the plastic wrapped far enough around the lower left corner to slide off the case (which got the whole bottom lose).
Wow, this is crazy for a $50 case. Maybe Google could send everyone some flexible plastic picks and some extra instructions for getting this thing off.
Now I'm considering weather to return it, or perhaps file down the lip on the lower left corner so it's easier to remove.
i also just received a Spigen Case (for a heck of a lot less money). It's seems fine, but of course doesn't cover the screen (my Naked N5 got scratched up when it slid from my coat pocket down the right side of the driver's seat -> then I got the Folio). One more removal idea. Since the Lower Right is the easiest to get off, maybe slide the plastic under the lower left corner first. Then, slide another under the lower right. Then, try and get the bottom loose. (I haven't tried this yet).

Hmmm, since the lower left corner is tighter then the right, maybe it would be easier to slide the plastic under the lower left corner first, then slide another piece under the lower right corner, then slide off the bottom. Push it just enough to clear the bottom of the phone, then slide the phone down to avoid breaking the top/back of the case.
I never could justify going with a folio case. They always just seemed to get in the way. I'm currently using the Speck CandyShell Grip, and there are no application/removal issues, and no screenshot issues.
Argh! Same problem here. Am using quite a lot of pressure on the bottom right corner with both thumbs, but having no luck getting the Folio Case off my 6P. Am very reluctant to use any more force or a sharp implement for fear of causing any damage to the (very expensive) phone. Not an urgent problem as I'm basically happy with the case, but the ability to take the case off – albeit with a small bit of pressure – was something I took for granted.
The chap on the phone at Google Customer Service was very sympathetic, and said if I do cause any damage to either the case or phone, then not to worry – they'll be covered (sadly I couldn't leave any positive feedback for the Rep as the automated follow-up survey was in French...!) However, I think I'll wait until I do really need to take the cover off before trying with any more force.
