Want to run Android on your PC or Laptop?
This is pretty cool, did it this morning.
If you have troubles with getting your internet to work in it, what I did was put my EVO in USB tethering mode,plugged it into my PC..then booted the PC and it worked great.
1. Download Android from here..android-x86-1.6-r2.iso
2. Download UNetBootin
Now you have a few choices... either just burn the ISO to a cd (and boot your computer off it) or use unetbootin to make a usb thumb drive bootable with the ISO image on it.

ok so this looks bad a** but like is it a dual boot? or is it if you dont have the memory card you cant run it? im running ubuntu and think this would be pretty sweet if you have the UI of this but still have the functioning of ubuntu

I just booted up off a thumb drive so it doesn't effect your current os... you could also burn the ISO on to a cd and bootup off the CD...
You don't actually install this on your hard drive or anything. You could, but it'd be kinda pointless.

Would be very cool to run on a Netbook, see how android translates as a Netbook OS.

I tried it on my laptop Dell E4200 but I cannot run it. I tried all LIVE modes but nothing happened.

mine gets stuck on detecting android x86. I even tried burning the disk and got stuck in the same place. I really want to try this.

This is sick!! Can anyone think of any possible way to install apk files???? Can I add Google Apps somehow??

You can boot from Virtual PC too
Hi, i have successfully booted from Windows Virtual PC software..
You need to :
1. Download Windows Virtual PC
2. Go Bios to enable CPU virtualization technology(newer pc would have this function)
3. install the Windows Virtual PC software
4. Create a virtual disk
5. Give it any name
6. Go to Settings for that Virtual Disk
7. Search for dvd drive and point it to the android iso
8. Boot up the Virtual Drive you have created
9. select the third option, debug, and follow the instruction there, you should type exit twice to boot into android
10. Wella you have reached android
10a. Make sure you got a ethernet connection on your pc
10b. Try either ethernet port 1 or 2 to get connected to the internet by editing in the android ethernet settings.

I would assume that the OS uses the flash drive as a filesystem- so put the APKs on the flash drive, download a file manager from the web and install using the file manager.
Also I can't get this to work in VirtualBox, it says the ISO file is invalid.

I read about this months ago but never did give it a go. I can only imagine how awesome this would be to run on a computer that has a touchscreen monitor.
That said... once windows releases a few of their tablets and we have the option to boot into android.............. AWESOME!!!

This is confusing...no matter how I try to start it, it always comes to a black screen with an underscore that blinks every couple of seconds

This came out just in time.....not even 3 days ago I was looking at live android, which has been discontinued as it seems

I got a Macbook Pro and I wanted to try, so I used Parrells desktop and mounted the ISO as as a Windows 7 (unsure if that was right) but it seemed to work just fine

Got it running on my Acer Aspire one, wifi works and I can connect to the internet! this is awesome!

Wow, I can run it under VirtualBox on Fedora 13... nice. Unfortunetaly I do not have touch screen so handling is a little bit tricky.

i got it running in virtualbox. just set up a virtual system and use ubuntu linux as the virtual system to be created and use the defaults to create the system

I got it running on an HP DV6 laptop coppied it to a usb drive booted up and it works fine and the internet, nice work thanks for this

it runs great under vmware workstation 7. even internet works I just wished the real market was pre-installed. im pretty sure someone will get froyo into a iso now that this version is getting attention

will the touchscreen be usable if you install android on a Tablet or UMPC?

Installing Linux Variants on Captivate

This week I worked with the developer of Linux Installer to make it work on our phones. We had some difficulties with distance and language. He is in France and I am in USA. we used DroidVNC, ADBWireless and putting my phone into the DMZ of my router to effectively turn my development phone into a virtual platform which he was able to use from around the world. We worked aproximately 16 hours this week on it and we both learned a lot.
Just letting you know, Linux Installer is now compatible with the captivate and runs in a chroot environment. https://market.android.com/details?id=com.galoula.LinuxInstall&feature=search_result This will install debian squeeze on your phone and give you the ability to apt-get install files from the Debian repositories.
The goal of linux installer is actually to boot your phone into linux, not install it side-by-side, however we were able to make it work in this way. Linux Installer now works side-by-side with the Captivate. To exit, the "linuxboot" command line app, just type "exit" and LinuxInstaller will shut down.
Ignore the pop-up about ext2. There is a kernel module which supports ext2 in Linux Installer.

The development to dual boot has not been done. It is likely that it never will be done, unless someone wants to make a kernel for our phones to mount the loop, then boot from that.

You can apt-get any application that runs in Debian, which is over 30,000 applications; Most of which are very useful.

You must go through all of the steps for it to work.
That's right.... Apache on a phone. Your own mobile web server.

How about some clarification/explanation on the different settings/options in LinuxInstaller?

I rebooted my phone and got the third option as well as "Install Linux boot script". The only problem is that it cannot mount LOOP.

Nope....
Still stuck at 2 after reboot.

Pardon my ignorance but if I am getting this, this wont replace my current OS just boot to linux? For example, I can do this with my current CM7 and then just reboot the phone and be back in CM7 or am I super lost?

Yes, you will boot your phone like normal. Our phones do not even have the camera button required by Linux Installer to dual boot.

Did you do anything that could mess up your bootloader or insert another bootable hard drive? Did you try to o mess with the boot settings?
I would try to put the dvd in the computer and do a repair install. That should replace the system files on your computer and make it boot again, kind of like flashing a rom in Android without wiping data to make it usable. If it is buggy or unstable I would suggest backing everything up and installing windows from scratch again.

I have found the problem : I used wintoflash to create a bootable usb drive with win7 on it (for an other computer), and when I boot now I have this message. Maybe wintoflash thought I would install win7 on the same computer and modified something...
The problem is I can't access Advanced boot options or even System Repair cause I'm on win8.

Yeah, but if you have the DVD you should be able to boot to that.

Try to boot from the USB then, and if it works then do a repair install.

The windows installation has been copied in a wrong way I think : cmd displays X:/ instead of C:/ in the repair system and the installation can't go on.

No, I don't know linux, only windows.

I don't understand it either...
The least u can do is enter the bootmenu...can u enter BIOS??
If yes, change the boot priority to USB/DVD and keep either of it connected...
Make sure the DVD is bootable...

Ok can you get access to another computer and a cd? If so, burn an Ubuntu live cd, boot your computer into it, don't install, and burn a Windows 8 dvd from there.

Dude BIOS is ONLY on the system, your computer, NOT on a CD/DVD
If u ask me, i don't think you should pursue something u don't know anything about. I suggest handing out the reigns to someone who is more skilled...

I solved the trouble myself :
I booted on Toutou Linux (google it if you don't know it), then used gParted to uncheck "Boot" from an unvalid partition and checked "Boot" on my internal HDD. It all worked. Now tell me again I don't know what I'm doing cause I found the solution while you didn't.

ARM is 32 bit yes, but will it work? i dont know if windows will like directly work, this is not a custom rom nor is it android its windows which is very different. i still am confused of how you will install it

I completed this successfully, avoiding all restrictions (I could tamper with the registry if it caused problems later).
I also switched the primary partition to fat32, because the device can't read NTFS (maybe its just Android?).
The issue now was to boot from the SD card (I feared this as soon as I had begun the project )
I thought that my first 2 steps should be to root and unlock the bootloader, but I immediately discovered that when my 30 pin cable connected to my PC, the device did not show up in the explorer and begin to setup the device (install drivers); this was a problem because Kingoroot (root creator) required access to the device in order to boot and unlock it.
But the strange thing was that the cable was delivering power to the tablet... (data pins broken?) could this mean that 30 pin does not support data/media interaction (i am in the process of finding another cable, which I know I have) ?
So I tried the APK, but when loading it spring up with a message "Error while parsing package" and terminates (my android version is 4.2.2).
So I thought about a Mod, but that requires root.

It does say Android image, but windows is ARM64 with a EFI partition FAT32 so it shouldn't be a problem to read off of.
But the only things that I was not certain about was that if those motherboard switches existed on this device and if this also required root or an unlocked bootloader (please do tell me if these are true or false).

BTW this is not for regular use, this is just an experiment and a bit of fun!

I completely understand you. You want what i want. the best thing to do is use a launcher like computer launcher 2 on playstore (it looks a bit like Windows 11). I don't consider this as a joke at all. Many (including me) want this. You can also use the Wins 10 simulator on playstore (Windows 10).

Windows 11 on windows yogabook

Does anyone here have made the update to windows 11 on a windows yogabook ?
I've try this and with help of MediaCreationTool.bat i was able to overpass the processor compatibility.
It donwload the update, run all the install but at the end of this process i Come with an error and the update process colse to delete all this work, coming with just a windows 10 after all.
When the update finish i have 2 type of error
attempted write to readonly memory
Or
Error in safe_os with an error on Boot operator
Don't know why i have this error and how to fix it.
I try on a fresh install with my old files and already try to à New clean install, but all this try i already have an error....
Does anybody here have this error and can clear it to made the update or run the windows 11 update without problems on a yogabook ?

Nope, I was not facing any issues with the Install. (sorry, don't ask for a guide as there already are hundreds of it. Google it)
Furthermore, I am already testing WSA and it's surprisingly working fluid. You obviously get the 4GB warning but once WSA is fully loaded it's "bingo". (check OneDrive & Adobe Draw running side by side). I had 5 Apps running at the same time but the process usage in the Taskmanager was not freaking out (if you compare it to Bluestacks etc) !
And yes, pen works perfectly in the Android Apps...

Thanks for your answer, my problem is not how to made the w11 update, cause i already install it on another pc, but why i have this error, i already try three time to install it and already have the Same error (First time i try to give my files and i have this error, thinking this can be the problem i made the Same process but with a clean install, same result and last time i totally reinstall my yogabook with a clean install and try to launch w11 update on it (with MediaCreationTool.bat each time) and i have the Same result)
Each time the donwload process go to the end and the install work fine (i have no reboot du ring all the update) but when i came to the final (and First) boot of w11 i have this error on a Black screen (old blue screen of windows) and the pc uninstall the update and come back to w10.....

No idea where and why you struggle... to test the WSA I just downloaded the latest Insider Beta... The Device Manager detected everything, absolutely everything except the Multimode Halo Keyboard obviously...

Just try with the insider Iso, but i always have the Same error....
Can't complete the installation....

The error is in the message... you are trying to install Win11 on a MBR Partition. Win11 needs an UEFI GPT Partition... Google for it on how to convert it. Microsoft has even an own tool for it https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/deployment/mbr-to-gpt

The error is in the message... you are trying to install Win11 on a MBR Partition. Win11 needs an UEFI GPT Partition... Google for it on how to convert it. Microsoft has even an own tool for it https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/deployment/mbr-to-gpt

I'm already on GPT Partition, but i'm not on UEFI, only on EFI... Can I make an update of this parameter ?
I made the bios update find on lenovo support site whitch is specified to be BIOS/UEFI
When i check thé TPM compatibility on the pc the statut is OK and version is 2.0....
When i' m on bios i can't enable secure boot statut...

I have no idea. It worked perfectly from scratch on my Yogabook. I assume you updated the Bios from here

Did you try to start in safe mode and run "mdsched.exe" ? (Usually pressing F8 right after the lenovo bios logo appears, but you will probably need and external usb keyboard for this)

Thanks for your time and your help.
For the BIOS update Yes it directly come from the lenovo site (the only update aviable so i can't make mistake).
I just try to make a full run of mdsched.exe in safe mode (really hard to keep a usb keyboard cause my 2 wireless keyboard wasn't reconnised in safe mode) and no error after the check...
I really don't understand what can block the W11 update on my yogabook.
Also try to install with desableing all non essentiel app and service at startup..... No more result.....
The only option i do not try is to make the update in safe mode (don't know if it's possible...)

typing this from my W11 yoga book... i used the reg tweak as described in this article and just started upgrading by opening the ISO in W10 https://pureinfotech.com/install-windows-11-unsupported-pc/
Needed to install some drivers again, but overall it works okay. Just disable all animations. Because our old tablet just can't handle those any more.

is there any benefit in using vw11 instead of w10 in performance terms? I would go for w11 but only performance driven as WSL is running fine ;-)
