Huawei Mate 9 leaks in high resolution images 2 days in advance of release. - Mate 8 General

The Huawei Mate 9, which will be officially announced this month, has appeared in high resolution leaked photos showing the final unit with Leica-engineered dual-camera setup.
The leaked photos are consistent with material that's surfaced previously, showcasing a big metal smartphone with a dual-camera setup, accompanied by a dual-LED flash and laser autofocus module.
The handset is rumored to have a 5.9-inch display with 1080p resolution and is to be powered by the Huawei HiSilicon Kirin 960 flagship-tier processor, paired with up to 6GB of RAM and up to 128GB of storage. The Huawei Mate 9 allegedly runs Android 7.0 Nougat skinned with the manufacturer's EMUI 5.0 interface.

Agreed.
Plus, the Kirin 960 isn't much faster as well (for non-gamers that is as the GPU-side however is massively quicker (but current games run just fine on the 950 as well, imho)) and pretty expensive so will hold onto the Mate 8 for the time being :good:

it is all about the price about this one, I am also disspointed with the camerabump and camera modul, it looks not very stylish and not up to huawies recent standards.
I am a gamer so for personally k960 is very much neeeded. The picture abouve I still see black borders against the screen this is disappointing, I think otherwise Nubia Z9 has done very good with this and I wish all other manufactures would do the same to create borderless screen

The leaks seem to be getting confirmed (or thrown out) as the 4th approaches. On a Note 4 (but running Note 7 softwate) and have a ROM'd MediaPad X2 (which was a PITA to update) . So I like rooted Huawei devices with new ROMs so looking at 3 very different devices:
In the spirit of the thread, my first pick
- Mate 9 mostly for the great devs here. Nougat would be a bonus, and hopefully chainfires work can be brought over. Not global (or including 4g then off the list.
- LeEco LePro 3 with flash rebate it is absurdly affordable and reasonably reviewed as a whole. Only 5.5 is a real deal thinker. 5.9 on the Mate much better by leaps and jumps ahead.
- Lenovo Phab Pro 2 out (for ordering) now, but holding for the Huawei intro press conference on the 4th. Bigger (like the 6.4), much less performance wise.

Two pictures from the phone.

Nice phone with nice price lol

Assuming this will be available in the US on the Huawei website as an unlocked version you can use in the US?
Opinion on it being my next phone over my Nexus 6p?

Two sensors (20MP+12MP) 4K video + OIS, new CPU, new GPU, Android 7.0, IR blaster, USB Type-C. Good update over Mate 8.
"Porsche Design" will be not for everyone. Especially design quite like Samsung - front main button ... and price of course.

Won't complain though. The light filter is the only thing I miss (no root). Let's hope we will get it too.

i like the tighter spacing in the quick settings, finally we can cram more settings in there and use the available space properly

I love my Nexus 6p but I'm starting to get the itch. I'm hoping this comes out soon tho, what do you think of the Pixel XL?
How do you have your 6p set up? ... I wanted to put on the 7.1 Pure Nexus but I'm not really wanting to do a fresh reset on my phone.
You got out of Akron you lucky dog haha

Yes, can't wait to see the Mate 9! The Pixel xl is under specs and over priced for me. I'm on Nitrogen OS N 7.1 after a clean install & all is good!
I revisit family in akron every few years, but only in the summer!

Yeah, that's how I feel about the Pixel, but it being a new phone I'm like "man, I want a new phone" haha. This 6p has me loving Huawei. Best phone I've ever had ... I may try the 7.1 Pure Nexus tonight and just bite the bullet of a clean install.

I had alpha and I sold it bcause of horrible yellow whites not possibility color temperature..
Don't know how note 4 screen is (wud compare it with P7) but I had S3 S4 and I always seen micro dots when I looked at display.. while browsing and reading ..
Here alpha vs P7 ( P7 is slightly brighter than mate7 )
[
Please come back when you have seen the note 4 display. It is superior to every thing out there. You will we no micro Dots since it is a 2k display.

For now IPS - BEST
I like the wrap-around glass, If that's what I see. I'm afraid though, the design is not special enough. I have to wait to see the materials but - it's beginning to look a little generic! I hope it rocks because I'm dying to get my hands on it.
You see, the S6 is looking nice, and the HTC-M9 is solid as usual.
I don't know....I really enjoyed the double glass of the P7, and the slim, perfectly proportioned P6. I don't see anything differentiating the P7. In fact, those rounded corners at the bottom look a bit like the *gasp*...the HTC!

Well I know that pic above is rumor or it will be compl. different once released, but ... I've seen leaks of P8 too and I already seen bits and I have feeling am slowly falling in love with P8 it will be BEAST and that design ! nice bottom slim 6mm flat ..
Another clear pictures
Those picture were on the net late december as remember seeing them.
could be just general stage of in-house prototype development rather than any current build they doing to follow up on the mate 7, time will tell I suppose ...
LINK: Rumor: Huawei’s Mate 8 Phablet Might Launch Later Than Expected
Android Headlines has a rumor story about the Mate 8 possibly not being released until next year, due to them wanting to focus their energy on the P8.
The Mate 8 is still thought to be coming out late in the year, so hopefully this rumor is false.
I think the real reason for the delay, is that they want more time to develope a more powerful follow up processor.
Another reason is that their new upcoming D8 model could be seen as a mate 8 mini. It features Kirin 950, but also a 2K display and 5.2 inch.
I think many of the people who still doubt about the 6 inch size mght prefer the D8. It has the same design as Mate 7 but smaller size.
as a power user I still think the Kirin 950 update to the D8 is very welcome... but since it has 2K display I am worried about lag and battery performance.
Samsung has proven a 2K display can consume not much power, but the question is if huawei can do the same.
Otherwise I think D8 have a big potentical... might become a big seller... 6 inch phones are still a niche market atleast here in Sweden.
It is not an optimal size really, but if they can improve screen to body ratio it would be a step in the right direction. It is the outer messurements that matters,
and huawei and LG is the only two companies who focus on the screen to body ratio. This is an essential focus if you are going to do a big size smartphone.

Am looking forward to see P8 .. Thinking of buying it .. (will keep mate7 as well)
According to a leaked road map from hisilicon, kirin 950 will be released in q4, kirin 940 in q3. Just like the upcoming d8 will have kirin 950 I think mate 8. Ost likely have to. In other words... We can expect a q4 release.
Snapdragon and also another company are working on fingerprint scanner that works on the screen surface.. So yeah this type of fingerprint scanner that is used in mate 7 or iPhone have no future.. . They will all be inside the glas soon... It most likely will happen next year though.. .
I love the look of my mate 7, and the mate 8(if that's the mate 8 anyways) looks really nice, upgraded. This for me is the best style on a phone so far I have used, and I have used all the best phones out there as i phones, notes, Galaxy's, htc's etc. Anyways, the point is that it looks really upgraded, and nice, love it.
What I expecting is that M8 will have no black borders around display.. and that would be awesome..
somebody copying mate 8!
http://www.gizchina.com/2015/03/17/phablet-version-of-the-nubia-z9-max-photos-published
so all these so called "Mate 8" pictures we have seen was this ZTE model.
The similiarties is very pathetic...
Regarding the top of the phone, I am pretty sure they use the exact same front camera and ear speaker too.
Looks identical to Mate 7. The back is very similiar too. Maybe superior speaker though..it looks bigger.
Probably same finger print scanner ? screen to body ratio is worse...

[Q] Where do we go next from the OPO?

I can't seem to desire any other phone. I love the display, I love the size. Speed is good. Battery is very good (running stock CM). Not to mention the price.
Also - I love the hardware buttons (I think software buttons - like in the nexus 6p for example - are a waste of screen real estate).
Anyone upgraded and was happy doing so?
I'm in the same boat as you, my phone is almost 2 years old now but i feel no need to upgrade. Unless you live in a area with faster than 150mbs lte, want a finger print scanner, or a crystal clear screen, i would just keep it until the op4.
Had the One for just over a year now and don't feel the need for an upgrade. When I do end up upgrading this phone, it will not be another OnePlus device. The 2 and X have shown little improvements as successors to the One. There will be better options when the time comes
The OPO really opened me up to the modding capabilities of android. As so many people had grabbed the phone and experimented, there was lots of support. CyanogenMod was a key factor in my decision to get it, and I agree with @kenboyles72 : The 2 and X haven't improved enough for me to want to upgrade.
Also, there's nothing wrong with the OPO, even two years old. It still outperforms most of my mates devices
will be a better unit. BUT not that too soon.
opo will be still outstanding unit at least few more years.
Used to handle HTC models prior to opo
really appreciated opo unit.
appropriate in many ways.
I'm going to wait for the OnePlus 3 to see what it has in store, and if the price is high or it doesn't impress me with it's design and such, I'm going with the Xiaomi Mi5. I mean 4GB of RAM, Snapdragon 820, Fingerprint Scanner, Marshmallow, Good Camera, Awesome design and 64GB of storage for ~700AUD, I'm sold.

Is it bootloader unlocked? Or do you plan on staying on stock for several months hoping for some AOSP support only to switch again? Most of the time it's better to wait and see how popular a device is before buying as the more popular a device is the more likely it is to get a good development scene

Boot loader is locked and honestly I don't care. I don't care what Android skin I use, everyone makes a big fuss about oh I can use this and ew Touchwiz and what not and honestly I don't care. I use Google Messenger for texting, Snapchat, Reddit and Facebook Messenger. I'd be lucky to make an hour of phone calls a week. I install Google Now Launcher on the device and an icon pack, the main interaction I have with MIUI is the status bar and recents apps menu. Like looking at this, you wouldn't even know it was MIUI underneath.

OP3 or whatever ~5" Nexus device(s) come out this year.
Went to a Nexus 5x already, but keep leaning back to the OPO that's still lying around.
After The opo will be useless at 2018 i will looking into new battery techs
i was thinking to Nexus 6p, but I've see now the 820's snapdragon devices.... So I think I will wait for sure the next Nexus, if it will be nice i will buy that... And obviously, have a look to opo4
I'm waiting on the note 6... after it gets a custom recovery.
One plus 3 ( if specifications equal or above opo ).
Maybe mi5 when price drops or Next Nexus, opo is still uncomparable as price/quality ratio
Using this thing until it is too slow to use day to day...did this with my HTC g2 and m7. When they start to lag behind too much and battery dies too often, it was upgrade time. I always make sure lots of memory is free for performance.
Sent from the one and only Oneplus One
thus is cool but i am worried if there is hope of android o for us with this one or any good custom roms or any new holy **** kernels as i donot see dev with opo2 then what with opo3 opo 4 will dim
S7 Edge on Tmobile's buy one get one free deal.
I was just browsing the subforum and happened to come across this. I personally own the X which is essentially a more compact One with an AMOLED screen and expandable storage.
I would say keep the One. It's a great phone and if you compare performance of the X to the one, I'd say that there isn't a reason for you to upgrade to anything at all. If you must, go for the X. It's really a side grade if anything as both devices level one another out on terms of HW, but in all honesty, keep what you have. You guys have the best ROMs, the best revision of the 801, and the best kernels after all. Enjoy what you have.
I've had inconsistent performance with the GPS on my OPO. I'm really tempted to get a 5X now that it's $200 (plus that first month of service, right?). Didn't know how important the GPS would be to me.

Mate 8 is my new Mate... Farwell Note 4...

Hi guys,
i'm brand new here and I just wanna say that I got brand new Huawei Mate 8 (3 GB RAM, 32 ROM). I've sold my Note 4 (910F) and so far... I'm so happy! I was scared at first but now... WOW!
Huawei is that what I was looking for. It is blazing fast, astonishing phone with multiple options that I wanted.
First of all EMUI is WAY MUCH prettier than ugly TouchWiz. I got everything what I wanted - for example Theme support. My note 4 is sooo old that samsung wont provide theme engine for my touchwiz. Thank you samsung for that btw...
Second of all - its blazing fast ! Way much faster than TW from Samsung. Less ram leak, apps are loading faster. I really like this speed... Afret flashing clean rom on samsung it was never that fast. Dunno why, its just this.
And battery life - 92% from this morning. Not bad for 6"0 inch screen. Maybe its less colour, maybe its not EPICULTRAHD resolution, but who cares... its a phone, not a TV.
Im glad that I've become a Huawei family member. It was a good chocie.
So - hello guys. I'll try to do my best to help you with your phone problems and I hope you will help me.
Good morning Huawei!
Coming from the galaxy s5 i can kind of say i know the spot you were in. Samsung phones are extremely expensive but you get very little for such a high price. Compared to the galaxy s7, the huawei mate 8 beats it in everything but camera. Honestly though, its a phone not a Nikon. The speed is due to the CPU of the phone being an in house item. Huawei made the CPU themselves so they can make the necessary optimizations to run android how they want it to run. I suggest picking up a case for the phone. Screen protector is optional. It comes with one but it has Gorilla Glass 4 on it so scratching the device would be quite difficult unless one was doing so on purpose. I suggest rooting this device and swapping the kernel governor to something other than the stock interactive governor. I use ondemand because it really gets that CPU where you want it to be and saves battery at all costs. Other than that if you have rooting trouble or unlocking trouble there are some nice threads to do a bit of looking around. Enjoy the phone!
Thanks bro for the reply. Im not sure if I will loose my warranty... I did it with samsung and my glass broke on it (famous screen delamination, i got same **** in note 2, now note 4) and they told me to FU because of 0x1 knox...
My phone came with a plastic protection on the back (they attached it) and glass protector on the front. <3 them for this.
Can i root my huawei and not loose warranty?
I used for a few weeks MIUI system, and I miss some options - for example creating my own profile for battery (turn off 4G/LTE, battery saver profile etc running from 12am-6am)
Love my mate 8. If the honor note 8 is anything close I'm buying. Need my 2k res back.
Sent from my HUAWEI NXT-L29 using Tapatalk
I am running both the Note 4 and Mate 8. Love my Mate 8 though. Battery life for the Mate is an easy 3 days for me. Note 4 is only 2 days generally.
After 3 days of using (normal use for me, sometimes internet, sometimes making some calls and texting some messages) i got 16% and i cant discharge it ! I gave up and plugged it into a charger. IT AMAIZING how long can it live!
Note 4 was dead after day and a half. Max !
I would make some changes in this phone, but still - i love it!
indeed, the only changes id want to make were software-based and thats easily taken care of with custom roms and mods

My Huawei Ascend Mate2, little over 2 years old....LOVE IT still. Still getting 2 days battery life.
Using STOCK 5.1, Nova Launcher Prime, buttery smooth, but I think it's about time for an update.
Now that the Mate8 has dropped to a reasonable price. Might be time to pull the trigger and upgrade?
Stable, long battery life and good camera quality is what I usually go for.
I know the Mate8 will be stable & long battery life. How's the camera quality?
I don't use the stock camera app, just Camera FV-5 full version.

[OP3T]What we know so far?[rumour mill]

Name confirmed I guess
https://oneplus.net/hr/3t
Not 404 anymore
- Snapdragon 821 - confirmed by OnePlus and Qualcomm
- 6GB RAM - I guess confirmed
- Full HD 5'5 Optic Amoled - to be confirmed (maybe OP bought Galaxy Note 7 display spare parts so we get 5'7 2k display )
- Sony IMX 398, 16mpx f/1.7 aperture - to be confirmed
- 3300 mAh battery - to be confirmed
- 64/128GB UFS 2.0 storage - to be confirmed
- new darker color - to be confirmed
- some waterproofing - highly unlikely
- Android 7.0 at launch - I guess confirmed - as seen on GitHub it seems it is 6.0.1
Anything else?
Good times. As I said in another thread, I prefer this autumn/winter releases when new version of Android is out so I hope they stick to this schedule in 2017.;2018.;...

Also developing a tablet without looking for rumor at least 6 months in advance would be one of the biggest marketing mistakes you can do.

Let's hope OP are smart enough to include more APAC friendly BANDS of 4G LTE FDD. Their biggest problem was that and the poor quality screen. Update those, throw in the confirmed 'upgrades' and they'll have a great phone...
With Qualcomm beating them to the punch, I have no idea why they didn't push the announcement ahead of schedule and let the 'hype' build for longer..??

Tablet would be cool, because nobody would expect that. But I doubt it.
We'll see.

This is exactly what I'm hoping for. 100% buying it if it has a nicer screen and supports more LTE bands.

That would be the most stupid product. Selling a 5.5" Handy followed by a 7" phablet. looool .
Also developing a tablet without looking for rumor at least 6 months in advance would be one of the biggest marketing mistakes you can do.

I hope it comes in an all matte black color like the Iphone 7 has....not glossy black or gun metal black but BLACK I like how the new pixel is called quite black when its no where near black, its gray

Mine too, I called them and I am just a few days out of warranty. They said they wanted to help me but couldn't because they couldn't create the service request.

What exactly are the hardware and software that make Honor 8 incompatible with Oreo ??
(for instance, GPU Mali T628 and Vulkan API are the hardware & softwre limitations for Nougat, and thus Honor 7)

Lessons learned. Pixel 3 next time or someone else. It's much more expensive, but at least there will be support. Even OnePlus seems like a better choice. At least they are updating their OP3 released in June 2016 to Oreo. Honor 8 was released in July 2016. An older phone is getting better support. So infuriating. Their hw excuse is BS.
This is the final ??

ill go with Android One device right now my money is on Mi A1
It's a joke that the phone called "Honor 8 LITE" (cheaper version of Honor 8) gets Oreo, and the Honor 8 not.
After this, I think I will never buy a Honor/Huawei phone again...

Not only OP3.. even Samsung S6 is about to receive Oreo...
Ikr if the s6 can get Oreo this phone for sure should be able to.
it is typical of Huawei or Honor to provide only one major OS update...if your model came with MM you will get N. If your model launched with N, you will get Oreo. That's it... Irrespective of whether the hardware is capable or not...
we customers are just expecting more than what we are entitled to...
That moment when your old Xperia SP from 2013 is running totally fine with Android 8.1 while this device has even worse Hardware than the Honor 8... It just can't be Hardware or Software limitation, they don't earn money with updates, that the reason, only with selling new phones.
Looks like I'm never going to buy a Huawei device again, even if it's cheap. I only got this device because there was a special sale on that specific day (About 30% off). Looking back I should probably have gotten a OnePlus 3T which was the phone I originally planned on getting. Oh well, I'm really disappointed in Huawei.
I can just say that my next phone will definitively be a OnePlus, maybe the OnePlus 6 or 6T.
Bought 2 Honor 8(One for me and other to my wife), and altough i still like the device I doubt I'll ever buy a Honor/Huawei device in a near future...

Even though they launch at 30k in starting they will end up selling phones at 50% or 30% off. In India Honor 8 was launched at 30k but now its been sold at 14.9k RIP for those who brought when it was launched (I'm also in sadly )
Lessons Learnt :-
1.Never and ever buy Honor phones at early release stage, if you buy you can't sell after a month also.
2. Never expect updates from Honor, they always gonna late by the time you'll see next major update LOL
God damn it!
one of the reasons I bought the phone was because they promised two years of updates... can't we sue them over this or something? If that's completely true I'm not buying a hauwei/honor phone again...
what the hell first i bought samsung s3 there they stopped update till andriod 4.3.6 (so thought never to buy samsung as they didnt provide update before) then i bought nokia 6 ta-1000, nokia was even worse coz no updates and plus it was not supporting 4g in my area so sold that and bought honor 8 thinking they will update, now with this post i lost hope... i am having bad luck i guess coz now even samsung s6 getting oreo update
