Who wants to see TWRP on our Devices(SM-G930P/SM-G935P? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions & Answers

I'm starting this poll to get the attention of developers around the XDA community and with your help lets make noise, and provide help *if needed* so we can be able to flash our precious device as well as from the other carriers.

We can already flash with Flashfire and TWRP is not possible being that the bootloader is locked

Thanks, but that is why I open this poll, i feel with TWRP we can install other roms beside echoe. How can we contribute to unlocked the bootloader

It can't be unlocked and that has nothing to do with flashing other roms. We just don't have any development. The only difference between Flashfire and TWRP is that Flashfire requires root

While we all appreciate the reasoning behind your efforts, I can [presumably] speak for all of us and say we would all like to see this.
And currently, no amount of exposure to what we want will change the fact that we can't have it. Our bootloader is locked so tight, it could make diamonds outta coal. All US variants are in the same boat. Samsung doesn't care. Qualcomm doesn't care. Carriers don't care. We've got all we're gonna get. But thanks anyways.
Probably go HTC next time around...

Thanks for the input. is just depressing going into other forums and not having the same capabilities even tho is the "same" device. but hope to see other roms in the future and I guess flash it thru flashfire. I hope to see more advance users like you and Soooperstar on this forum maybe joining Ideas to build a master piece rom . Thanks, I guess back to playing clash royale..lol

Nothing is impossible tho few are trying it seems to find an exploit to unlock. We will see but I wouldn't bank on it

Can we use Paul's method?

I'm a linux dev but not a android dev so please forgive the ignorance.
Can we take the work Paul has done and use it against the incredible? What do we need for that to work? a recover image? It sounds like he's gotten it to work with the hboot 0.80(not documented yet). I know the incredible is at hboot 0.77.
I dont know if the hboot 0.80 tricks would work for us since we're on a lower version.
Thanks!
-Jim
We really need pauls help. He doesn't want to help because he's in the UK. And doesn't have access to one. So..someone needs to talk him into it. Lol. We really need his help. Unless you can find out more about his method and help make a custom Rom/recovery for us.
I might be willing to give up mine and ship it to him(wanting it back of course). If he breaks it, he breaks it..its under insurance.
I'm new to the scene so I don't have any relationship with him to ask as a favor that he try it. If someone could work that side of it..maybe we can get him to work on it.
Wow thatd be pretty sweet. Um talk to someone in the root thread. Someone's bound to know someone or head over too www.modaco.com and pm him yourself. I'm very sure if he wasn't responsible he would love to have access to the incredible. Doubt he will say no. Plus sense gives you the option to authenticate your gmail over WiFi.
idea
Used to read the Eris forum religiously and I had an idea... If he agrees why not start a collection to get an incredible? Five hundred bucks is a lot of money, but not I'd there are fifty people contributing which I'm sure we can swing...that's ten bucks each!
There are some trusted members of this community that might be interested in helping?
What do you think?
I'm going to try and hit Paul up on Irc tonight, but I really don't think his method will work.
Why don't you think his method would work? I know that there are some differences between the two, but its a start isn't it?

which irc is he in?
Because he is using a test img that was signed by HTC, that is why you need a gold card, witch as of right now I believe gold cards are disabled for us. But the way it works is with the gold card you can flash any Rom that is made for your device, ie bypassing carrier restrictions. Because the test Rom he is using has been signed with test keys it will allow you to than flash the update that was again signed with test keys. As of right now there is no way for us to use this method. But I am still going to see if I can get more info, from him. And lastly, we have a cdma device and there roms are gsm, that's a great way to brick your phone real fast, if you could find a way to flash it.
I wonder if the right 'donation' would motivate some developers to get to work on the root
I'm not going down that road again with donating. It just caused too many problems.
I agree donating can just cause a big mess. I am down for however I can help tho as I miss my rooted moto droid. lol

You could donate after the root was made.
I'm sure it's in the works...most like to sit back from the forums and do it in the privacy of a few to avoid being flooded with a million questions that have already been answered or questions about when it will be done.
Patience is a virtue.
Plus I won't be getting the phone for like a month. haha.

Why do you so urgently need one? Remember the developers here (myself included) don't do this for a living... This is our free time.
You have ODIN for flashing ROMs, and I made an app to install "tweaks" into ROMs
Custom Robert is busy, can stock Jamie help?

Sometime in the future it may be worked upon or it may not .
You can speed the process up by donating a new SGS 2 to the devs to work on .

On Topic: Give the Devs a break. The more you demand things, well, the less likely they will feel like giving you them. This is a brand new phone, which most of the Devs dont even own yet. So if you are that desperate, Donate to the devs.
Enjoy your phone as it is. Besides, why the need for custom recovery? Theres hardly anything to flash.
I don't see a need for clockwork at the moment. No need for custom roms atm either, it can already fetch my beer, vacuum my home and more.
Ok, I might have exaggerated it but come on, it is awesome as it is and devs need time. Give it a couple of months.

mind your tone man. i dont want ur philosophy/advice/judgement.
This will take time.
It took almost 2 months to get safe CWM on SGS as that device was brand new one on android scene. SGS2 is also brand spanking new with no relation to any existing set on market. Very few devs even have it by now. And thanks to shortage, most will have to wait to get their devices.
And there is no need for devs to rush on this as this is Samsung and you have very safe, stable and efficient way to flash your devices out of the box thanks to ODIN. (backup as well via Kies or TB. If you hate it, too bad).

I think what Chalup wrote is very true and you should be the one minding your tone. I do not mean to lecture you or anything, but you do realise that someone will have to invest his time and effort to make a fully functional custom recovery. This is not a supermarket. You come here demanding custom recovery, name of the developer behind it and ETA?!? Now I think that is not the proper tone either...
As Chalup suggested start making one yourself and then I guess you wiill have your ETA...

Precisely. Also remember that the stock issues mean hardly anyone has it yet...
People bark at Samsung for not getting updates and bugfixes out as soon as they wish. Even that is questionable, since Samsung is not obligated in any way to produce these updates - they do it simply of public relations reasons. But to demand ANYTHING from free time developers - that's outright rude and unacceptable. Luckily, 98% of us regular users admire the devs for their hard work and their hours spent, since they do it for what? A couple of bucks or a beer. There must be pure interest or even passion to be willing to do these things. You go, devs! Thank you for bearing with us.

New to android

So I'm a total n00b to android and so far I'm not missing my iphone, I just rooted my xperia play last night and looking forward to clearing up some space. I haven't unlocked the bootloader yet, I need to do more research on it. But just wanted to say thanks to everyone involved with the superoneclick method.

you only really need to unlock your bootloader if you want a custom kernel or rom, I've unlocked it to install ICS alpha leak build but I relocked it again and went back to Stock, Root is a must though, Android is a pretty nice OS so just take advantage of the modifications.
Also install Xperia Tweak 2.0, you can find it in the dev section and install the Bravia, Rendering and touchscreen tweaks.

Let's just have all of our Rooting discussions for everybody here. This is for all variants of the G3 until we all have root
I'll try to keep track of, and find posts relating to the current status of Roots for ALL the G3's.
If you find some I miss that are pertinent, let me know. Or post them here and I'll put them in the OP

guys.. my comment about sprint root was a joke to see how much interest there was in the root and see what kinda reactions there'd be.
BUT.. some of the guys working on this need g3 devices... for root.. for unlock... for future exploits down the road...
root for any unrooted G3's will come.. I can promise that. But.. it will most likely not be an update to ioroot specifically.. and I may not be the one to post...
SO..
the couple users who did donate for a future Sprint G3 root.. I will be refunding. But I do thank you for your enthusiasm. hold onto it and use it when root IS posted to ensure the G3 continues to see great work(moar r00t? moar unlox? moar hax? r0mz.. zzz). there is a great group of ppl poking at this.. but as i mentioned.. we all dont have G3's.. and some will have to buy out of pocket.. just for the sake of hacking and contributing to community. I think I've slept a total of 8 hrs the past 3 days(not complaining!).. trust me.. this is being looked at and worked on.
keep your eyes on our twitters... @ tylerfixer (iomonster/thecubed/insertnamehere) .. @ teamandirc (jcase) .. i dont think shelnutt2 or beaups use twitter.. and me @ utoprime
keep the assumptions to a minimum.. and please be patient(no not "months" patient)..

I agree, that thread was getting rather annoying.
I agree, who needs threads anyway? /sarcasm.
I'm at work now, so I can't do anything useful for G3, just facilitating some stuff on IRC, and making stupid comments here on XDA
When I get home, I'm going to see if we can hit the SPR G3 hard.
After that, it's full steam ahead for unlocks. We've got a few ideas in mind, Shelnutt2 is getting his IDA disassembly refined so we can pick it to pieces. We might even be blessed with some help from toastcfh and beaups in the IDA department too!
We're definitely not going slow on this one, we're just gathering the troops!

Right now jcase needs some $$ to pick up a Sprint device - and I think he'd appreciate a few dollars towards a device. When we get an unlock together, I'll probably make a post and set up something so we can split the donations to everyone that contributed, so as to be fair.
Thanks!
EDIT: scratch that, jcase would rather not receive donations until we release something. Hold onto your money until we get a release put together then. Sorry for the confusion!

This is not from a rooting team. This is from the italian company "Hacking Team" which is offering professional hacking-tools to their customers (also governments).
This company was hacked and all their exploits got published. This android stuff is one of many repositories with exploits of this company.

Yeah I'm aware they have root and they've had it for over a month with no release so they obviously haven't been successful in making it safe for everyone. Hopefully now instead of being a closed club we can have additional talented devs helping to speed the process along. It's not a slight against the guys that are working on it, but at the same time why limit ourselves to the 3-4 talented guys that are working on it when we have an entire community willing and (many) able to help.
really do hope there is some type of update to getting this phone rooted... if the camera wasnt so good i would have ditched this phone long ago

Yeah mine unfortunately has been laying on my desk unused other than using the camera for the past couple weeks. I've been using my S6 in the meantime and grabbing the G4 when I know I'm going to want to take pictures. I want to like the phone and it's got so much potential but every time I swap my SIM into it within 20 minutes the same old problems rear their head and I use it for whatever I'm doing and then go back to the S6 :/

The devs working on it are some of the best in this community. Disrespecting them like that won't make it any better for us. Different devs work on different brands of phones. You're more than welcome to find your own method of root of you don't like their precautionary process.

That's why I said they're very talented guys, the fact remains there are no results to show though. As I also said specifically, it's not a slight or disrespect against them in the least. I'm just pointing out that the more of these talented guys that we have working on it the better. I'm not sure why you feel the need to turn up in every thread pertaining to root for the G4 and try to derail it by ****ting on whatever the thread is about? Unless you've got a more constructive comment to provide I'd appreciate you not derailing this thread so that it gets closed as all the others have.
If I were able to come up with my own root method I would've. Since I'm not a developer and have little knowledge of these things I'd like to provide links like the one in the OP to those that can make better use of it than me as my contribution to the forum. If you have your own method of coming up with root or using the provided information usefully then please do, otherwise carry on.

Whether you think it wasn't, your comment was a dig at them. I don't "sh1t" on root threads. The only threads I input my frustration on are the people who keep repeating the same stuff that's been explained over and over again. You should take your own advice about constructive comments. Like I said, if you aren't happy with what the current devs are doing then find a root method yourself. They don't HAVE to do anything for us. They do this on their own time and don't have unlimited hours a day to work on things. Patience is a virtue. Root will be here within a couple weeks or less. If other devs want to take this and run with it, so be it, but it's not up to us to voice our opinions and commentary when we aren't donating any of our time and abilities in this community.

As a friendly suggestion, boosting1bar, maybe use "other" instead of "more" when positing something similar to this sentence, "Hopefully now instead of being a closed club we can have more talented devs helping to speed the process along." I get what you meant to say, but to some, it might read as a qualitative statement (as in developers with "more" talent than the ones being referred to), rather than a quantitative one (i.e. additional developers).

Everyone has their own interpretation, I guess those of you looking to be negative will see it that way. Hopefully the others who can make use of the information will see it for what it actually is.

When I read your post, I saw how people could misinterpret it, but I thought about it like this; A nicely packaged one-click-root from the current devs would be great, but if I could have root tomorrow, I wouldn't mind needing to stick my fingers in the guts of the android like the old days.
I'll risk a brick for a quick and dirty solution!

Well he said "more" in a sense of quantity not by any means of talent. I feel like if "other" was used it would be a little more disrespectful. But that's my opinion

I get that, but because of the way it was worded, it was clearly interpreted otherwise. Hence my suggestion.
As for "other" being more offensive, I'm not sure I see how, unless you elaborate. To me "other" would imply "other developers in addition to the ones mentioned." But I suppose there are always "other" ways to interpret it.
I will digress here, as I would prefer this thread be steeped in the semantics of rooting our common device as opposed to being bogged down in the semantics of intent.

I will as well since the semantics will not get us anywhere. How are you liking your g4

I you will risk a brick, There is another method "supposedly" with KingUser........https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vRxvdXeMtWY.
Don't risk your phone. But if there was somebody who knew about the matter and could look up the app without having to install it, it would be good.
