(Video) Pixel XL vs Nexus 6p speaker comparison via Blue Yeti - Google Pixel XL Guides, News, & Discussion

Hey all! I got my Pixel yesterday, and I have started making my video reviews about it.
Here is a comparison of the speakers on both devices. I recorded both phones using my Blue Yeti mic to really capture the differences.
I will be doing a few more vids on about my Pixel on my channel, so check if you are interested.

[Q] Note 4 video's audio: Stereo or mono?

Since there are multiple mics, I was wondering if anyone had heard if the note 4's video had stereo sound recording or not?
I was thinking, since the software can isolate individual voices in voice recording, if they could even implement spacial widening of recorded sound in videos?
I haven't seen anyone post anywhere if the sound being recorded it mono or stereo yet.
I can't find it now but I was watching a note 4 video recording last night and in the beginning he's voice was centered and a quarter in to it his voice was only on the left side of my Nvidia shield tablet which comes with stereo speakers. If I find it again I will post it. It was in Spanish Btw.

Cool.. Maybe they've added stereo recording and just not bothered to mention it?
I finally freakin found it! If you notice in the beginning his voice is heard on both sides. Then at about 1:58 mark, you can hear his voice on the left mostly. You can still hear the rest of the background noise on both side.

phones have had stereo recording for the past like, 3 years. i sure hope the Note 4 would have it lol
our galaxy s3 phones were not stereo (that I'm aware of) and since like many we upgrade every two years, whats been available in the last year has been off my radar.. especially when its a feature not listed anywhere.

it wasn't?? damn. even my rezound was stereo, and that phone came out well before the GS3.
My T-Mobile Note 4 appears to record video in full stereo. While the audio has a few different settings, i.e. meeting, interview etc. it appears that it does not record in stereo.

Nexus 6 Microphones Audio Quality

Hi,
As Google moved into top notch phones category, it would be interesting how Nexus 6 performs in recording audio department during video capture in loud area. As known, Galaxy Nexus , Nexus 4 and Nexus 5 are useless recording audio during video capture in loud area.
HTC M7/M8 are the only ones from Android league which can record audio during video capture without distortion in loud area up to 150db sound pressure.
It is really interesting how good is Nexus 6 in this department?
I haven't received mine Nexus 6 yet, so would really appreciate samples.
Interesting thread. Would.be good to know. Wonder how others flagships do also
This is the test video I've done with HTC M7: one with HDR Mics and another one with alternative Mics in 130db sound area: HTC ONE M7 HDR Mic vs Non-HDR Mic: http://youtu.be/k0CIoouBM24
If it records sound I'm good. I don't have time in life to discern decibels and HDR mics and whatnot. It's motorola built. I would be looking into what the latest Moto X 2Gen device is doing for the closest indicator thus far if you want info that might be the closest thing to the N6 mic. Comparing to HTC or Samsung devices is relatively meaningless.

Nice vid. When you get the nexus please also do a comparison. When I had my htc one with the membrane I was banging on and on about when the had to change the mics and audio got worst but no one listened now it's clear)
I'm glad samsung paid attention to there mics with the note 4, has some of the best audio recording I have experienced on a phone and the 3 mics work perfectly and can even separate voices individually if you wanted to do that.

Usually I record things like class lectures, it has gotten quite noisy in class especially when people participate and I was able to hear the professor loud and clear over some of their voices and if not, samsung software allows me to tinker with the recorded audio.

Have you tried recording a concert or a band? A class lecture at its peak won't be as loud as one of the above, a live band is a great test of the mics recording quality.

Seems Nexus 6 shoot video with mono audio. Sad!

Yea, and with 4 mics on board, really stupid, i'm, sure there will be mod for this, but come on.
I was at a concert yesterday and really appreciated the audio recording quality of my M8. No distortion at all! I was really hoping the Nexus would be decent in this area.

youtube.com/watch?v=8CvbMUAMZH0 lumia recording good sound, this what I expect for a "premium" phone.
Two youtube videos that shows that nexus has not a HDR mic. Very bad quality for a very expensive device.
Still HTC one m8, iphone or lumia are the only phones in the market that can record good sound in this kind of loud sound conditions

Quality is FAR from bad, but......mono recording with 4 mics is indeed terrible CHOICE!

OG Pixel VS Pixel 2 Video Camera Test. Front, Rear, and Audio capabilities

Quick test of the original Google Pixel VS the new Pixel 2.
Testing both front and rear cameras for video quality, stabilization, and audio from the internal mics.

4k 30fps with stabilization on for the rear.
Same settings for both devices.
Let me know which you think is better and why.
If you’re thinking about the iPhone X and Pixel 2, I have both and the Note 8. Here’s a camera comparison at low light, plus views on portraits from both. This is not a video. It’s an article with the full resolution photos uploaded into it.

Long and short. The Pixel 2 Camera kills the iPhone X in this scenario. But do you agree with me?

Channel dedicated to video making on Pixel 2 XL

Just added a lot more videos
Hi - great videos. I have a Pixel 2 and have already downloaded cinema 4k based on your recommendation, and am looking to get a zhiyun crane. Would you mind adding notes/links to your youtube descriptions on products you have/recommend?
Love it! I'm glad you link to everything you use and recommend! Quick question.. I have the XL 2 as well, what do you do about storage? I haven't made it through all your videos yet to see if you cover this (but I am subscribed!) and just wondered how you get around the limitations of the built-in storage.. Is it really an issue? I'll be honest, I've not recorded much of anything on my phone since I bought it..
This is really good. I'm trying to mount a portable studio of sorts. My only grip with the Pixel 2 XL is the lack of a headphone jack, and to make things worse... the USB C port is blocked by the Gimbal (I've got a Zhiyun Smooth Q) so I'm not able to plug my mic in that scenario. I've been looking around and it seems some users were able to get a nice setup like the one I'm trying to put together using a USB C to USB C angled connector (wich I lack and I'm not able to find just yet).
On the software side, I'm having some trouble with the camera app OP suggested (it crashes a lot and has some annoying bugs like a stutter when first opened), I'd love to hear what else you recommend guys. I'll give Open Camera a shot this weekend.
Google Pixel 2 XL, Zhiyun Smooth 4, and External Microphone
Would the above configuration work OK, do you know? Or would I have balancing problems?
I already have a Smooth 4 and am currently looking for a new phone. Now that Google supports external microphones on their pixel series, I'm considering buying the Pixel 2 XL.
Any help or advice would be welcome!

Music audio quality?

Thinking about buying one a small ver of Pixel 4 or a S10e. I would use wired headphones. Can anyone comment on the audio/music quality of the Pixel 4? I see What fi mentioned it was not that good but I wanted to see other opinions on the it also.
Coming from a P30, the speaker sound quality on the p4 is amazing comparatively speaking.
To my surprise it's actually pleasant to play something over speaker VS having to reach for my headphones.
Keep in mind I'm not an audiophile.
