Work around for wifi direct remote (fire TV 4k) - Fire TV General

I've been having issues with my wifi direct remote lately. My remote would not respond after awhile. The only thing that would fix it was to restart the fire TV. It will work for awhile, then same issue occur. I'm running Ethernet, not wifi off the 5ghz band.
Here's what I did to fix my issue. I unplugged the Ethernet and logged onto my 2.4 GHz band, then plugged the Ethernet cable back. Haven't had remote issues since. It's been a week since I had issues. I don't know if the issue would or when it would come back. Try this if you are having issues with your wifi direct remote, while using Ethernet. My guess is there is an issue with the 5ghz band and wifi direct.

[Q] Wifi or router issue

I'm having a strange problem. Before I brought home my Iconia, my router (Netgear 3600) had been stable and running without crashes or a restart for months.
Now, if I leave my tablet in sleep mode, I return to find that although the tablet says it is still connected there is no Internet connection. Also, my other wifi devices are offline too. I have to restart my router to get a connection again.
Is it possible that my Iconia could be crashing my router?

I'm not saying it is, but it MIGHT be a coincidence.
There's not much a wifi client can do to to crash a router afaik. If your router doesn't like dlna/upnp then I suppose that could cause it to whack out, or if there are too many wifi clients on it...but I can't think of anything else.
What's the exact model of netgear? WNDR? DGN? Also, are you still connected locally? Can you ping the router but just can't get to the net? What about a wired connection? If you can get to the router with a wired connection, login to it's admin page and see if you see any errors. Also check for a firmware upgrade on the router.
With my old linksys router I had similar problems. Turns out that you can overwhelm it with connections and when it runs out of resources it's routing is jammed. Maybe you have some app on the a500 that creates too many connections and if your router is on the edge (e.g. your other computers are running torrent software) it might crash.
Or it could be a totally different problem .

Resolved, I think...
Thanks for your feedback!
It is Netgear wndr3700v1. The problem appears to be resolved by upgrading to the latest firmware (which has caused other problems, but resolved this one).
Although I've usually found Netgear to be reliable, they really dropped the ball on the 3700 routers. My four-year-old modem was more reliable and as fast. Unfortunately, I gave it away before I discovered all of the issues with the Netgear unit...

Tell that to my combo DSL modem / wireless / router I had before I got a Wii. As soon as the Wii was installed the router would do EXACTLY what the OP describes. I ran with the Wii unplugged for a week and it never crashed. Within 2 hours of connecting the Wii back to the wireless it would crash the router.
I disabled the wireless on the router and replaced with a commercial grade D-Link and had no more problems.

Ethernet connection

Huh. I have a successful Ethernet connection on the np. However I cannot get any device to connect to the np via Google cast (or dlna). I know the problem is almost certainly that the devices and the np don't think they're on the same internet network connection. I can find no information about the np Ethernet connection anywhere. Most comments don't even cover Google cast and Ethernet. Is the Ethernet connection and the Google cast connection supposed to work automatically? If so, it doesn't and there's seems to be no help on it anywhere. I read something on the many pages discussing pc issues with this that igmp needs to be adjusted on the router but my router has no igmp option. Has anyone here got Google cast working via Ethernet on the np? Thanks very much.
Prior to 6.0, casting worked fine even when connected to Ethernet. The first build of 6.0 worked fine with casting but subsequent updated do not. If o had to guess, I bet it is the result of a cast app update that broke the feature.

5ghz Tethering

Good day everybody,
Looking for some guidance here. Coming from several previous Nexus devices I assumed when I purchased this device the option to broadcast a hotspot in the 5ghz band was the norm. Much to my dismay I've found out otherwise even after the Nougat update. This is supposedly a feature from MM but ZTE appears to not have included it.
So my question is do any of the current ROMs available include this feature? and/or is there a way to enable this on a rooted device by editing some system files m
The reason I would like this feature is that my K1 Shield tablet has very unpleasant latency and connection stability issues while using the GeForce now service. I'm a long haul truck driver so I believe most of the issues are being caused due to interference in the 2.4ghz band as my 6P in the 5ghz band played just as nice as my wired Ethernet connection at the house on Shield TV.
Thanks any input is appreciated.

3s max WiFi issue

Hi I have a issue I don't understand maybe someone could help. I am browsing the web or watching YouTube and my phone drops WiFi connection completely after 20 minutes.also other devices are not online eather. At first I thought my isp was the issue. That's not the case because as soon as I switch my 3s max WiFi off all other devices connect with no problems.as long as my 3s max WiFi off other people in my home can use the web with no problems.as soon as I switch my 3s max WiFi without 20 minutes my phone is offline and and other people are ofline as well. Is my phone faulty
Are you sure the issue isn't just your router or modem?
When I brought my router upstairs and connected it to the Ethernet port in my room (which is fed through a hole in the wall going down to the basement and plugs into the modem there) I discovered that my laptop's WiFi signal would drop every 5 minutes. No other devices had this issue. Only 2 laptops were connected to the 2.4 Ghz network being broadcasted by this ac router and only my laptop was having issues. The issues were magically solved by taking the router back downstairs.
It wasn't the router and it wasn't my laptop's WiFi card, since Internet worked fine with the router downstairs. Turns out the Ethernet port isn't wired correctly. The point of this story is, you need to undergo the process of elimination to figure out what's causing the issue. Maybe your router can't handle X number of devices at the same time, or something is eating up bandwidth and throttling your connection.

Really? How?
All of a sudden mine does not see my 5Ghz channel.
On both of mine with the so called 'stable' final release of oreo they are now paperweights... wifi is flakey and regularly drops mainly when connected to my asus (funny considering its a asus product) router.
Also when that's happening it half crashes the wifi on the router until both units are unplugged... have tried wiping both players and the router and it persists.
If this isn't fixed in a update (that ill have to sideload) i got paperweights unless i use otg eithernet adapters.
Not exactly the QC I had hoped to get from google
Edit: Confirmed that it works perfectly via the old usb2 apple eithernet adapter
FYI here are network adapters that i can confirm work.. Apple® USB Ethernet Adapter (MC704LL/A) and D-Link DUB-E100
Even in beta and stable the same problem. After reboot it loses wifi and I have to insert password again

I just upgraded to Oreo and i am having the same issue. My 5ghz APs are no longer visible to the Nexus Player.
I rebooted the routers and factory reset the NP, but it will no longer work with 5ghz. The 2.4ghz works, but the speeds are slower and it buffers with some videos.
Anyone figure this out? The version 8.0.0.
Hoping for a fix so i don't have to rollback.
hmmm...didnt think that buffering problem is because of wifi ...same thing here..

I actually experienced the exactly same thing recently right after my nexus player updated itself to 8.0. Nexus drop WiFi and can’t find 5ghz. I read many posts related and many solutions. I tried to clear cliche data, stop wps option in my modem/router, because it would randomly assigned new passwords. I change Lan to ipv4 only then enabled ipv6 back since I noticed it was not the reason....still WiFi dropped now and then. I have to restart my modem painfully and irritated. Till today I read something about frequency of 5ghz may relate to this. I found my 5ghz is fixed channel then I changed it to “auto” as 2.4ghz. After rebooting the modem, Wala, everything works. The voice search function works too with high speed internet.

I don't think you understand. The problem is the 5ghz wifi no longer works. Your "solution" was already mentioned above. That isn't a solution, the 5ghz wifi still doesn't work after the upgrade.
I am considering downgrading since they aren't any help. The video buffering because i am using 2.4ghz wifi isn't acceptable.
I have the same problem as the original post. After Oreo update, Player can see 5GHz Wifi, but it will drop out once in a while, randomly. Usually it seems to re-connect in a few seconds, but it is already too late and the playback is paused (very annoying). My router is running DD-WRT.
Is there a known fix or work-around for this problem yet, other than side-loading a lower version?
Thx
I am suffering this same issue and the remote is laggy. It started after the Oreo update. I also saw 500 Mbps bouncing around my LAN. At points my AC access points were shutting down. That all had quit, but the wifi issues remain. I do see 5ghz and 2.4, but often get, "WiFi has no internet connection" and streaming quits.
I contacted Google this afternoon, was transferred, no freaking joke, 7 times. They then just referred me to Asus, and refused any further support.
Google has fallen a long way in a very short amount of time. Their support is now abysmal, and all off shore.
Came here looking for this, it can see and connect to 5ghz but both are in and out and video is stuttering. Anyone have a recommended lower version? Or can someone suggest another box that has good bluetooth audio output?
