New Exploit Found That Could Root V20 - LG V20 Questions & Answers

Hey guys. I was browsing the forums when I cam across this post by XDA about an old Linux kernel dubbed "Dirty Cow" that can apparently root almost any Android device.
http://www.xda-developers.com/9-yea...-dirty-cow-can-root-every-version-of-android/
Anyone willing to give this a shot on the V20!?

Already being discussed in the Roms thread homeslice

Has been discussed in depth in this forum, http://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/development/lg-v20-tmobile-variant-stock-tot-t3484982
Still reading it, but looks to be close, however requires more work. As I said still reading it, just on page 3........

Thanks for that! Ill read as well.

Others are right, I saw this being discussed as a potential option already, with some modification.

Reasons to root

My Nexus One will be here tomorrow, and I am wondering what the Pro's and Con's of rooting are.
I've rooted before. I had a G1, but I bricked it, accidentally. Won't stop me from rooting the Nexus, but just give me some reasons why.
I obviously know about cooked roms, etc. I've read about the Desire rom with Sense UI, is it worth it?
Just want your input.
The "search" function of the forums is a great feature. I've seen several threads about this very subject already.
Its definitely worth it! I enjoyed the phone stock, but when i rooted and went with cyanogen 5053. I couldnt happier. I thought the phone was fast already, but with the ROM, its a step above!
And plus some apps from the market are only for rooted phones. SetCPU (underclocking app) is one of them, and has helped me out with battery life. moderate use, i got about 18 hours yesterday with still 35% left on the battery.

This is exactly why I don't post alot.
@stuff: I rooted my n1 and flashed cyanogen 5053 and gotta say it's alot faster! If your the kind of guy that gets alot of apps and games like me there is another feature of rooted phones called apps2sd. Apps2sd allows you to set a partition size of your choosing on your sd card for use of storing installed apps and games. That way you are not limited to the internal phone memory. Also as h2opoloplyr_11 stated there are some apps that require your phone to be rooted. Thats all I can think of right now as I am new to android and the n1 but I'm sure there are more reasons and more reasons to come as devs get creative.

It has nothing to do with getting our post counts up and everything to do with having a clean, uncluttered and efficient forum. No one likes to see the same questions asked every few days. The point of a forum is for it to serve as a repository of information to help and educate future enthusiasts. This guy isn't special and somehow entitled to create another redundant thread instead of using the search function like the rest of us do.. Not to mention he said in his original post that he rooted his G1.

Why the hell isn't there an official stickied topic listing the pros and cons of rooting your device. The first thing people would see before they go asking repeated questions would be that thread.
Good question...the info was stickies in the G1 forum..probably still is.

Which is why the op's question should have either been answered or his topic reported. What could have been very simple has turned to a two page topic with only a few post that actually answer the question and it's not because of the op. It's because of all the other post within the topic that are completely of topic including this one.

Every time someone asks THIS question. It's about 10 pages of people giving different great benefits. What difference is 2 pages telling the guy to Lrn2Surch
If someone is too lazy to SEARCH for benefits. Who would ever expect them to accomplish rooting, and the various benefits without further questions that have been seen 100's of times.
It seems like I've seen this topic before.

Will the Transformer support future versions of Windows 8?

After some Google'ing im unsure whether we will see future versions of Microsoft's Windows 8 Operating system on tablet devices such as the Transformer, or any Nvidia TegraII tablets? What do you guys think? I would love to see Windows 8 on my Transformer?

Guy above (and the one above him too) is right there are at least 20 billion other threads about this already.
Basic facts are that Nvidia demoed windows 8 running on a tegra 2 tablet on 1ghz and one gig of ram so it is possible main problem is the legality of porting a non opensource system and rewriting bootloaders

Quick answer? It took him two hours to get that answer. Much faster to just browse the first couple pages of threads IMO. But i also don't agree with being rude so I usually just ignore threads like this.

searching before posting is a rule, not a suggestion. It is irritating for the many of us who peruse these forums even on a weekly basis having to see multiple threads covering the same subjects, and quite a few occassions they are on the first page AND in multiple subforums. I see many say "don't feed the trolls", I say "don't feed the newbs".
Well if you rather argue then discuss that fine. I can be sure I searched the forums before I posted this topic. The matter is constantly changing with new information being leaked all the time. I read similar topics and basically couldn't find the answer i was looking for. Thanks guys ! Well thanks to the one guy who posted an actual reply. =)

Don't use the general search bar at the top of the forum. Go to the overall Verizon Galaxy S5 forum:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s5
and use the search bar located along the right side of the screen that reads, "Search this forum." I used that search bar and got links to the threads linked below in my search results. Reading just a page or two at the end of any of these threads would have given you the answer you were looking for so you wouldn't have needed to start a whole new thread asking a question that has been asked and answered an inordinate number of times:

Actually at the time of posting initially it wasn't locked. I don't come on XDA to check on threads when I don't need to. It's a lot quieter these days. I have an actual job to do...
Plus to answer your second question, I would rather exert energy advising someone to do something themselves instead of me doing it for them. Especially when it's just a case of looking..it aids the growth of XDA in a positive way instead of the same questions being asked 100 times.
Bottom line is the locked thread is a thread based on what you need, the OP has an XDA account so why not ask them? Or look through Magisk??
Someone not looking for something for you isn't rude btw it's calling out laziness, that's an observation, nothing rude about it.
In fact I find you talking to me like I'm your employee to me! Is rude.
I'm not doing this back and forth anymore with you, read the rules of XDA, searching is one of the top suggestions as most information is out there.

Yes, there was no download link for the magisk module, no matter what anyone says. Moderator closed the thread due to that fact. There was NEVER a download link provided. Don't let one bad apple who likes to run their mouth discourage you. It's ok to ask a question. It's ok to not be able to find an answer. It's OUR responsibility to provide help, especially a senior member to another member, n00B or vet of xda.

You could not be more wrong.
I advised that there was a thread, the work has obviously been done. The thread was a placeholder whilst it was uploading.
If you think that asking an obvious question is the right thing to do on XDA then you're mistaken.
Asking a question is fine yes but to say it's "our responsibility" to answer? No you're bang on wrong.
If someone knows an answer then yes provide it, but don't make the mistake of thinking that XDA members are obligated to because no one is, it's out of the goodness of their heart, nothing more.
And lol I'm not a bad apple. I've committed years to helping users on XDA, I don't have to prove myself to anyone. Take a look at my previous posts and guides which there had been hundreds of.
The short answer is:
The chap who set the placeholder will have the answer. If not then there is no answer, perhaps downgrade.
As for someone searching instead of you finding it yourself.
Take a little look at this video
one plus again fooled us, they added a software filter which simulates like infrared photography, that too in outdoors, and it uses 48 mp main camera. So if you want to get 5 mp IR camera functional by root and props, #Dont_update_to_10.5.11.
