Device only boots into recovery after latest update - Fire HD 8 and HD 10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

As the title suggests, I just brought this device today, set it up and everything was working fine. Now that I installed this update, it only boots into recovery. I'm not an android noob, but I don't want to mess up this device just in case I take it back tomorrow. Any help will be gratefully appreciated.

Phone stuck at startup on sprint screen

Hi everyone,
Ill apologize in advance, i am a complete noob, and this is my first venture into rooting and such. As a result I dont know what I am doing and now my phone is stuck in boot. I was trying to perform the wifi hotspot mod on my MDL rooted GS4 using the root file manager method. Obviously I messed something up because when i transferred the files, the phone immediately rebooted itself and got stuck booting on the sprint screen. I am looking for some help on how to get my phone working again. I am thinking I will need to flash the stock rom onto the device and start from scratch. Is this correct? I am totally lost and I know I should search to figure it out but I need to get my phone up and working again.
Thanks for the help.

You can flash any version of the one-clicks, including the "No data" ones for this.
Once the ROM mods are cleaned out it should boot again.
I still havent flashed a rom yet. So I assume I would use odin to flash? Where would I find these "one-clicks"? What does the "no data" version mean? Is 3.07 the most recent version of odin? Just want to make sure I have all the settings right.
Again, thanks so much for the help.
I had this issue yesterday you need to flash stock mdc then apply the update then root using the cf auto root method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2291827

Got it working! Thanks guys for helping and dealing with my ignorance. I think I'm slowly figuring this stuff out. It was just stressful as it took about 6 hours to download the stock firmware.

Looking to do a stock install of 3.2 on A501

LIST OF FILES
Please note that none of these files are rooted and/or tweaked! They are stock Android ROMs from Acer and designed for stock recovery!
Flashing them will remove custom recovery and/or custom bootloader! You will be fully stock! Update zips may not install if you have modified your device in any way. If unsure use a full package! You need an EUU package only if your device is bricked as it will be completely wiped clean in the process!

I am looking for the 3G version the 3.2 stock ROM to do a fresh install on my A501
The link from Vache seems dead.. can anyone please help to provide that particular ROM?
Thanks a lot. Desperately need some help as I'm password locked out!

Best to just get stock ICS. Why are you password locked? Is the device stolen? I can easily help you get past it but I'm not sure whether I should.

Thanks blackthunder. It's our personal device, my wife set the password some time back and is sure she hasn't forgotten but for some reason it's not being accepted. We can't figure out why! I have the original receipt and box etc in case anyone's interested!
I tried the stock ICS Rom by naming it update.zip and rebooting into recovery, but that gets stuck at the Android guy logo immediately. Also tried 3.2 before that via a link from this page, and that seems to work until the progress bar hits about 80%. Then it just reboots back to the dreaded locked screen. From what I understand I can only do a reinstall of the same ROM version that's currently installed? We have a password lock on it, and not pattern. Would highly appreciate any help. . Really want this thing to start working again. It's practically new [emoji20]
Guys any idea? Really desperate here. Thanks in advance!!

Your beat bet is using an EUUs package to wipe the tablet and reset back to 3.0.1 then use Flash Tool to get CWM or TWRP + a decent ROM

Actually, even easier.....use the APX Flash Tool to get yourself a CWM Image (you'll need your SBK....there's a fair few guides on obtaining this) then do a wipe data/factory reset within CWM.
From there it's fairly easy to side load the latest Acer ROM.
Thanks. I'll try it out over the weekend! Appreciate your help!
God morning! For the apx tool, I'm not sure if USB debugging option is selected, never ticked that myself consciously. Is it OK to go ahead?
Tried using the apx tool after downloading the Acer USB drivers and in short no luck.
Had to go the manual route for flashing since I don't have USB debugging enabled.
Tried two packages, one honeycomb bundle 6 and then also tried a later one for ICS.
It goes thru the motions enters APX mode with confirmation as well on the tab screen, without any hiccups right to the end. But then reboots to the old dastardly lock screen asking for password!
Any ideas? Already backed up using mobo app so am OK to wipe clean and start anew.

Options for upgrading an Acer A500: Acer_A500_4.010.15_COM_GEN1
OK, heres a totally noob question. I have an Acer A500 I bought used. It has been rooted apparently. Has the ClockWorkMod bootloader installed, v5.0.
My question is, what are my options to upgrade this tablet and is there a thread with instructions on which firmware files to use, how far can I go with upgrading the A500 (ICS?). Not really looking to trick it out and go the whole mod route, would be happy with stock firmware, just looking to make it a little more up to date and, above all _stable_! The main issue I have with it now is the wifi craps out every month or so and I have to do a refresh and wipe all info and start over.
I used to get prompted to install a system update, and every time, it would fail with the dead Android dude on his back....so sad. Now, it just tells me, "Network Coverage is poor, please move to a location with better coverage". I am sitting right beside my router...
Here are the relevant specs:
Model number: A500
Build number: Acer_A500_4.010.15_COM_GEN1
Kernel version: 2.6.36.3
If you need any other info in order to help, just let me know.
Thank you very much in advance for any advice!!

Also, there seems to one thing left out of the instructions. Don't plug your phone into the USB until after sitting up the file paths in lgflashtool and hitting the arrow to begin the flash. After the message reads ready, then plug in the phone.
Although you initially have to connect the USB to set up the driver before getting to the above step. Its a tricky process and took me a little while to get to work.
Also just had the system update notice on my gpe, downloading now. Hope it is a good update on the gpad

Would it be a problem to get back root? I actually need to be rooted for some stuff I do at work. I ask because I do not see a big developer presence for this tablet.

I got the OTA but I had forgotten that I still had TWRP installed even though I'm on the stock 4.4.4 rom and not rooted anymore. TWRP interfered with the install and now it says my system is already up to date! Grrr.
Would it work if I just flashed your file via TWRP?

No problem. It was a bit frustrating to get everything to work and not very straight forward process. Would be much easier to just push the stock recovery in fast boot, but I couldn't find a file anywhere. It may be possible to extract it from the tot file from that thread but I couldn't figure it out.

Same here, no stock recovery anywhere. When I first bought the tablet I thought it was gonna have developer support like crazy, but no, it hasn't gained much traction unfortunately.

Any idea where can I get the factory image?
My update finally works!
My Gpe Gpad only has root and Xposed. I uninstalled Xposed and removed root but OTA was still failing with a generic 'ERROR' message. No details. However, when I sideloaded the update, I got the message "system/etc/permissions/platform.xml has unexpected contents". I figured out which app modifies this file. It's called Kitkat SDFix. This Play Store app modifies this file to enable read/write access for external sdcards. The developer makes a backup of the original platform.xml file (in the same location - system/etc/permissions/). So all you need to do is rename the modified platform.xml into anything else and rename the original backup back to platform.xml. You'll need a root explorer to achieve that.
After that the OTA works fine for me. Hope this helps someone else. Not that I had no custom recoveries or kernels so this process is for people who only had root and Xposed.

When you plug in the tablet it shows up as LG-something-something in Windows Device Manager. It was showing up as COM4 though, after changing that to COM41 I didn't have problems anymore. Did you do that first? The option is buried under a menu a couple of clicks down but it's there.

Assuming that the ROM is still there, you can dirty flash the ROM zip over it, and see if it works. There's no harm in trying that.
But "No OS Installed" simply means that your /system or /boot parition are not detected (means, they are empty). Now of course, the last resort is to flash the ROM all over again.

You need to provide more information. Are you on the stock ROM or a custom ROM? Stock recovery or TWRP? Had you made any changes to the device recently?
Someone please help. I just rooted my 6P. Did a little bit of doing. Phone would never boot just the round circles. So went into TWRP and tried to wipe to start fresh, not it says no OS installed. I have no ROMS's on the phone. No boot images. Been a while since I've done this. Really need help on this one. Thanks.
Download the dp3 , boot into bootloader, connect to PC run installer script after you unzip the factory image " flash all" sit back and wait for phone to reboot.

Hey thanks a lot. Couple things, and I apologize in advance for not knowing this already.
1) what's dp3
2) how do I run installer script?
I know I shift right click and open a cmd window within fastest - where I'll unzip the file - and I know how to get the phone into Bootloader.
Again, sorry for asking for simple explanations.

You can use USB otg to flash the ROM using twrp or transfer the ROM file from your PC to your phone in twrp (it supports mtp)

Download the required ROM and gapps, connect your phone to pc , type in google, Mini adb and fastboot, a page on XDA itself will come, download it, its small and install.
Then copy the ROM and gapps package to the location of the installation of the application.
Now open your recovery and tap on adb sideload, and swipe(twrp)
Go to your PC, open adb application a cmd will appear, type adb devices, it will start a daemon then will give you your device number, a number should appear. Then type
Adb sideload """"name of your ROM package""".zip
It will start installing, wait for few minutes.
Do the same for gapps

Developer preview 3 is a Android N preview and it is very fluid, battery life is good on stock and reason I recommend this because it is simple to do, gives you good options within the ROM and is good overall but that's just my opinion.

Lol. Maybe you missed the title under my name.
The dev preview isn't what he asked for, it isn't an easy solution, it isn't easy to come back from if he doesn't like it, it isn't even remotely what he needs. What he's looking for is a simple way to get his phone booted up and working again (a very simple request), and what you're suggesting is he install a beta OS (a complicated "solution").
If you really have a problem with a moderator requesting that a member posts in one place at a time (as per our rules), then I'm gobsmacked. If you'd care to look at the advice I gave him in the guide thread where he also posted you'd notice that I gave two solutions that:
A) Actually address the simplicity of his problem.
B) Give two simple, easy to execute, solutions that are the most common solutions you'll ever see anyone give a member in his situation. Solutions that don't involve having to install a developer preview that he never asked for.
I get that you're trying to help him, but the "solution" you provided him isn't right for his situation at all. There was no need to become defensive and aggressive when this was pointed out.

Onn 7" Model 100026191 TWRP Development

Alrighty... So I'm in the weeds here after going through three variants of the Samsung JPop (Which have bootloaders locked up like Fort Knox) and decided today to break down and dish out $59 for this bargain device. First thing I did upon getting it home was fastbooting it, and was able to unlock the bootloader with no issue. (So easy, a caveman could do it)
I've read just about every thread in here and though there seems to be TWRP support for quite a few models of the Onn tablets, I didn't see this one in here. Right now I have a throwaway laptop which is installing ubuntu for building TWRP for this device. Now, I have NEVER built TWRP. But I have plenty of free time, ambition, and am willing to learn. I have the basic guide to building TWRP open elsewhere. I will take whatever help I can get on doing this, big or small. Building a basic TWRP image should be easy enough, but the guides don't really go into device specific details (as expected), so this is where I could use some veteran help.
Device Specs:
Model: 100026191
Out-of-the-box Android Version: 11
Display: 7" 1024 x 600 Resolution
Processor: 2.0 GHz Quad-core CPU
RAM: 2GB
Cameras: 2MP front & back
USB: Type-C
Ubuntu just finished, and I am getting the build environment ready as we speak. Will keep this thread updated with progress and hickups that may occur along the way. Wish this noob some luck!!!!
Alrighty, so here's what I've been able to come up with as far as more detailed system information. Sorry for the late post, had trouble getting wifi working on ubuntu but got it going.
I suspected a MediaTek CPU and was eager to do a readback with SP Flash Tool, but as you can tell from the provided screenshots, it's actually a Cortex-A53 CPU. my goal here is to some how pull my stock recovery out of here. I thought about dd'ing it but someone in another thread advised against it. Does Onn have stock firmwares hidden away in the internet somewhere? Or is there another tool I can use to pull recovery?
Good evening guys and gals. New day, new opportunity. So i'm still stuck at pulling off boot and recovery from this tablet. I used
Code:
/adb shell cat /proc/mtd
to no avail. Permission denied just like with dd.
Today, I got the MTK droid tool and hooked the tablet to it and got these results. Still no scatter file, still no progress on pulling these partitions. (I apologize for my dumbness yesterday, this device is in fact MediaTek)
Alright. Eighty of you have clicked in this thread, zero of you show any motivation to do anything to contribute. You guys must hate this tablet because I went through this entire board, and each thread that even mentioned this model were left with no response. I just want the boot and recovery partitions off of the stock tablet. I am willing to do the rest. I said before, I'd take any help I could get but since this device is "so" insignificant, I'm not trying anything else on it.
I don't know if you guys dodge this device because it's Android 11, or what. But the least you veterans could do is either tell us it's not going to happen (given that you tried), or give us some other ideas we could try. Hell I'll paypal you enough for you to have the device in your hands in order to help. But that's where I stand. Moderator can lock this thread if he wishes. There's nothing else I can do for this device at the moment.
guess i'll return it to walmart
was hoping to root it easily with twrp
just gonna go grab the 8' if this is how it ended for the 7'
thanks for the help though!
I need a firmware for the 100026191

I have the boot and recovery images if you want them.
I unfortunately accidentally deleted the original boot image, but I have a magisk patched image still present.
I can walk you through the process of extracting the original if you would prefer that, it's quite simple, I just don't feel like buying a second Onn tablet at the moment.
Just note that if you want to extract the original boot image, do NOT flash the Magisk image, it will permanently erase the original boot image. There is another way, I can walk you through it.

I oicked up one of the gen3 tablets. Do you think your way of pulling the boot image would work on it?

My way of pulling the images should work on any Android device that ships Android 8.0+, however if you got it brand new, don't update it.
Factory reset it if it downloaded an update, then disable OTA updates before enabling Wi-Fi.
You can run `adb logcat` while the update is downloading to find out where to download the OTA, and dump the boot partition from that.
From there, if you install Magisk, you can dump the recovery partition with `adb shell`.

Ok I will have to reset it then go from there. Do you have a guide on how to pull the image?

When doing first time setup, don't connect to Wi-Fi.
Enable Developer Settings
Disable OTA Updates
Enable USB Debugging
Connect to Wi-Fi
Connect the device to your computer
Run `adb logcat > ota.txt`
Reenable OTA Updates
Go to Software Updates and start downloading the Android 12 update (If it's not the Android 12 update, disable OTA updates again after this one finishes installing, then try logcat again after rebooting)
Search for a link that looks like `https://android.googleapis.com/packages/ota-api/package/827ee737174e0e8f761bcaeb12738221a924c810.zip` in the logcat.
Put the update link in your browser, and download the zip file.
Extract the zip file
There's your boot.img, very conveniently.
The update link I have provided is for the 100074181, the 3rd gen Onn 7, if you happen to have that one then go ahead and just use my link.
Though update to Android 12 before actually using that boot.img with Magisk, it won't work with Android 11.
After you're done with that, and you're rooted.
`adb shell`
`su`
`dd if=/dev/block/by-name/recovery of=/storage/emulated/0/recovery.img`
Then connect your tablet to your PC and enable file transfer in USB settings, then just pull recovery.img out of your tablet and you have the recovery image.

Update to Android 12 before using Magisk, just in case.

I will look for it. Saved it to a USB drive and of course it decided to be stupid and it is repairing now. Slow going but as soon as it gets done I will look to see if it survived and if so I will get it uploaded.
