Convert Chinese Mate 8 to EU variant - noob tutorial - Mate 8 General

NOOB tutorial - How to convert Chinese Mate 8 to EU variant
I had a rough time to convert my Mate 8, so i am writing this tutorial ( description of the steps i took to be more precise) to help others.
I used couple tutorials on this forum to achive this, so all thanks goes to:
somboons – SRK tool and [GUIDE] How to switch to use stock firmware from other models
duraaraa - Howto: Load International Mate 8 Software on Chinese Mate 8.
Snoop05 - [TOOL] [WINDOWS] ADB, Fastboot and Drivers - 15 seconds ADB Installer v1.4.3
First the tools you will need:
1. 15 seconds ADB Installer v1.4.3
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2588979
2. Tool Huawei Bootloader/ROOT/Recovery/Backup/Utility
http://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-8/development/tool-srk-tool-huawei-t3369797
3. EU Rom from duraaraa (download rom only)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-8/general/howto-load-international-mate-8-t3293619
4. stock firmware C432 B152 from somboons link (download rom only)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-8/general/guide-how-to-switch-to-stock-firmware-t3374259
Before next step you need a bootloader key. There are 2 ways, one costs 4 usd, other free. Search the forum how to obtain the key.
Now, what I did:
PART I.
1. Install ADB drivers on PC
2. Install SRK tool
3. Unlock bootloader
4. (I installed twrp and rooted the phone, but I think this is not needed at this point)
Extract rar file that you downloaded with EU rom from duraaraa in directory
C:\1 (or any other name, but keep it short for simplicity)
5. Boot the phone into fastboot mode, using ADB or holding power+volume down.
6. Run the following fastboot commands:
fastboot flash cache c:\1\cache.img
fastboot flash cust c:\1\cust.img
fastboot flash system c:\1\system.img
fastboot flash userdata c:\1\userdata.img
Now, I got EU rom on my Mate 8, BUT, my phone didn’t get wireless reception and showed only 3,8 GB of main storage.
PART II.
Followed the guide from somboons.
1. Install TWRP using SRK tool.
2. Root the phone using SRK tool.
3. Using SRK tool go to “7. Utility” than “9. Changing oeminfo and custom.bin” – choose “2 Mate 8” and then option “2. EU (c432)”
4. unzip update.zip copy update.app from C432 B152 rom to “phone/sdcard/dload/update.app”
5. Install root explorer, edit build.prop in SYSTEM folder of your phone and change line “ro.build.display.id=Deleted” to “ro.build.display.id=NextL00C432B011”
6. Using SRK tool install stock recovery.
7. Now the tutorial says “after boot to system again , press *#*#2846579*#* > 4> 1 (mate 8 , it will be reboot and process install starting..)” but it didn’t work for me.
I switched the phone off, then pressed both volume up and down keys and power.
The phone updated and tadaaaa.. . I was on Stock EU rom, no root, bootloader locked.
Storage encrypted on next boot.
Also i did factory reset and wipe chase from stock recovery, but i do not remember after what was that. i think after step 6. - probably it is not needed.
After this you should have working stock rom.
All that is left is to istall OTA update from phone menu 2 or 3 versions in succession..
If you do not understand something try reading original tutorials from duraaraa and somboons
THE END

Noobs will stop troubling us

sure, IF they actually read this thread ^^ maybe best to stick it into your signature for future reference

Yes, but without text "FRP locked".

is it posible to do it even on latest AL10-nougat update?

BTW guide not working for me.... after i flash all the files in fastboot mode phone reboots and im staring at black screen
Where am i wrong?

One simple doubt: what are the advantages of having the EU variant? I got the chinese mate 8, but I selected my language and I can use it perfectly. Also, as far as I know, chinese firmware gets earlier updates. So, I'm confused.

First, Chinese model can't change home launcher. E.g. Google launcher.
Second, in Chinese model didn't installed Google apps and features, even languages. You can't add more languages because it restricted.
Third, device shows lot of necessary Chinese apps and features. E.g. yellow page etc.
and many other.
I bought my phone from Guangzhou, and want install EU version. But still couldn't change Chinese version.

Reboot to EDL mode from FASTBOOT!
No more Test Point Method needed
Technical Details:
Redmi Note 3 support rebooting to EDL in Android Bootloader aboot module (the "reboot-edl" command) but fastboot utility doesn't recognize "reboot-edl" in the command line and refuses to sent the command to the device. Since FastBoot command protocol is simple and text-based, it is enough to send a packet containing "reboot-edl" text over USB. The simplest way to do that is to patch Windows fastboot.exe file, replacing "reboot-bootloader" text with "reboot-edl". As "reboot-bootloader" string is found in the command line, fastboot.exe sends the same constant string to the device. So if "reboot-bootloader" is replaced with "reboot-edl", you can specify "reboot-edl" in the command line and the same text will be sent to the device.
New Update: Fastboot updated to latest version.
Tutorial:
1. Download the Fastboot_edl-v2.zip from Here.
2. Extract the zip in your desktop
3. Open the folder and double Click on Reboot.bat

4. Reboot your device to Fastboot Mode by pressing
Vol Down + Power button and connect your device with PC and Press Enter.
5. Your Device will be rebooted to EDL!
6. Now flash your Fastboot Rom with Mi Flash Tool to Unbrick your Mi Note 3.
Proof:
Thanks to @emuzychenko for the Idea!
This is AWESOME!! Just tested and worked amazingly.
Thank you!
Edit: the included command prompt didn't work for me though, launched standard and traversed to this folder

You can find it in the fastboot rom. Or if you have recovery rom, then go to the firmware-update folder in the zip there you will find it.

Maybe stupid question, but wouldn't phone go to edl mode (with red led flashing) before flashing rom and what then mbn file has to do? According to your manual it is the last step?

No, my device is not bricked, it has locked bootloader. I received code from xiaomi to unlocked bootloader but it constantly stops at 50%, and I found out that it can't be unlocked without china dev rom, but no rom can be installed with locked bootloader I only want to flash an official miui rom to be able to receive updates...Xiaomi really made this too complicated....

Don't use this tool if your device is not bricked, your rom is a distributor rom that's why you cannot unlock your device, you have to flash miui rom prior to unlocking, you can do it thru edl mode using adb, search on miui forums and you'll find it.

If your device is not bricked, then you can reboot to EDL mode from adb. Do this to reboot to edl from adb:
1. Connect your device to PC.
2. Open adb and type: adb devices and press enter to see your device if it is connected properly.
3. When you can see your device ID, type: adb reboot edl and press enter. It will reboot your device to EDL mode.
4. Now flash your rom with Mi Flash.

Root Redmi Note 3 Pro! [Install Twrp and Root]

Hi guys today I will tell you that How you can install Twrp Recovery and root your Redmi Note 3 Snapdragon Version.
This method of installing Twrp Recovery also work on any Xiaomi Device. By Any Device i mean the Newer Xiaomi device that comes with a locked bootloader. You just have to replace the Twrp Recovery Image file with your device Recovery image file But i am using my Redmi Note 3 in this video to show you guys the tutorial.
And as I said locked bootloader that means that you have to first unlock your device bootloader to install Twrp on your device.
You can check you my video on it:-
http://goo.gl/gZWfvA
So Now after you have unlocked your phone bootloader let me tell you that how you can install the Twrp Recovery and root your Xiaomi device.
Steps:-
So first Download The 2 files Adb.zip and then extract it and Twrp Recovery for your device.
Then move the Recovery file to the adb folder and make sure that you have installed the adb drivers for your Android phone.
If you don't know how to install it You can check out my video:-
http://goo.gl/a6QgtH
Then download the supersu.zip and the lazyflasher.zip on your micro SD card And Then connect your device to PC via USB cable.
Then open the adb folder And Press and hold the shift button and right click together.
Then click on the CMD option to open CMD And then type The following commands
First type "adb devices" and enter to check that your device is detected.
Then type "adb reboot bootloader" to reboot your phone in fastboot mode.
You can also boot your phone manually in fastboot mode by powering off the device and press and hold the volume down and power button at the same time.
Then type "Fastboot flash recovery" and the name of the Twrp image.
Just type the first 2-3 words of your Twrp image file and press the tab button then it will automatically paste the name of the image file and then press enter to start flashing.
Now you have flashed the Twrp Recovery.
Then you can disconnect your phone and to go in the recovery Just press and hold the volume up and power button together to boot into recovery.
Then you will get this kind of a screen just cancel

"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
And if you get this kind of a screen then just "Swipe to Allow Modifications"
And when you go to your internal storage it will not show you your device storage because the device is encrypted.
So to fix this you have to go to wipe and format the data of your device. This will erase everything on your phone not your micro SD card.
So backup everything first
And most of you get this error if you're running miui 8 marshmallow on your phone.
Now you can see your internal storage but now you have to flash the super su zip and the lazy flasher zip That you have placed on your micro SD card earlier.
So go to install and select the storage in which the files are saved and then install both of them.
First install the supersu.zip and then the lazyflasher.zip and Then wipe cache and reboot.
It will take some time at first boot.
Now the super su app will be installed on my phone.
Let's check with the root checker.
So that's how you can root your Redmi Note 3 Very easily and also other Xiaomi devices.
So hope you like it.
Check out my video about this topic:-
https://goo.gl/VQ8gfA
Twrp Image for RN3- https://goo.gl/VKElqg
Lazy Flasher- https://goo.gl/AzC3JD
Super su- https://goo.gl/t23Zok
Adb zip- https://goo.gl/5GSNgj
Why you ppl mess up things ! It's ok for beginners but try to explain all kind of twrp we have for our device and fastboot format user data command properly

No no.. I mean there's this YouTube tutorials I just used yesterday and it took me only 5 mins tops to root my Redmi note 3 pro. Cuz they have a flash.bat file with all the necessary file in one zip file. Put your phone to fastboot and run the flash.bat and it's done. So no need to manually type all those adb commands.

Do you have adb/fastboot drivers installed? If not: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317790
When you have that installed, boot into TWRP then tap on the Reboot button and then on the Bootloader button.
Plug in USB and open a command prompt, type the following command:
fastboot oem get-build-number
Post the result here
i solved this issue just today, i didn't get lucky with stock rom kept boot looping. What i did is get fromfuture mate 9 custom rom, place the zip in twrp folder and install zip from there.
The update.zip wouldn't install this way. At least my phone is working now.
Thanks
Edit: I also tried to flash update.app image components after extraction, using fastboot. It didn't work, I don't recommend this method.
The custom rom is life saving.

Ah, then you're on Nougat.
The reason I asked about fastboot was to find out what build/fw you were on, then go from there to install stock firmware.
You could update to Oreo using: https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-9/how-to/guide-mate-9-flash-update-package-t3593108
hey thanks!
The reason why im statisfied with this is that when flashing stock rom, it worked the first time (no bootloop), but the camera was not working, neither developper mode. Thats why i wiped, reflashed and got stuck in bootloop, no idea why. Also i could only flash a few of the images in update.app, very few. So it was not ideal, other images would yield an error in fastboot when flashing (command failed), i read online and figured this is perhaps due to a bad unlocking in the bootloader (if i understood correctly) at this point i felt that i could no longer process and learn info in android world, after all it was only one day that i'm into android and i felt tired, so i took the ladt chancd and decided to try the custom rom, im now satisfied with results, but many question marks are still in my head.

It's because you can't flash everything from fastboot with just phone unlocked.
You can flash: System, vendor, boot (ramdisk and kernel for oreo), recovery (recovery_ramdisk, recovery_vendor, recovery_vbmeta for oreo), cache, userdata. (I think those are it)
Flashing anything else requires you to unlock bootloader, but it needs a special code which none of us normal people have. :/

I unlocked the bootloader and flashed the recovery, the system booted successfully.
I tried to flash a ROM after that, it showed errors and didn't complete the flashing. since that time the phone has bootloop.

2-Tried to flash the stock firmware via TWRP.
3-Tried HurUpdater0.3
4- Extract update.app & HOWTA
5-Flash ramdisk and kernel from inside TWRP

I'm handling a bricked Zenfone 3 ZE552KL WW model, but I am unable to flash the stock rom back into the device.
For context, this device has never been unlocked, rooted, and always worked under its original factory Android. As told by the owner, he received an OTA update notification last week and confirmed all prompts to initiate the update. As instructed, he plugged the device to its original charger, left the update running and went by with his day doing other stuff. When he returned, the device was completely OFF with 0% battery. We figured the charging cable disconnected due to a bad connector endpoint, and the phone ran out of juice while the update was running!
The result is a bricked Zenfone unable to boot beyond the ASUS logo. It keeps crashing and gets into a boot loop.
I have tried most of the basic tech support I can give him.
I have downloaded a fresh copy of the official ZE522KL firmware from the ASUS website.
I can boot the phone into recovery, which is still the original ASUS recovery. But as I try to flash the firmware, I get this lovely error message:

I know for a fact this is a WW_Phone device because when I try to flash the JP firmware, the error message is different.
ERROR: This package is for "JP_Phone" device. This is a "WW_Phone".
Already tried "Wipe data/factory reset" and "Wipe cache partition" from the recovery menu, but that didn't help.
Already tried pushing the firmware via "adb sideload" and placing it in a SD card. Those didn't help either.
I am also willing to flash a community ROM, like LineageOS or Mokee, but I first need to unlock the bootloader. I'm running adb and fastboot from Linux, and I can't find a descent tool to unlock using Linux is proving to be a real pain. Every tool seems to be made for Windows only.
So, I'm resorting to anyone here, hoping anyone could give me a light before we send this phone directly to ASUS tech support, not available in our region (we'll need to ship it to another city).
Anything I can try before that? I'm running out of ideas.
Best regards and thanks in advance for any help.

Flash the latest stock recovery thru fastboot and then flash the latest raw firmware.
Otherwise try launching, not flashing, twrp thru fastboot and then flash any raw firmware with the updater script edited.

Since his phone is locked, he can't flash anything except RAW firmware.

Hey juliohm,
Just follow these steps & your device will operate normally
1) Download and install ASUS Flash Tool :
2) Download Latest Oreo RAW
ZE520KL:
ZE552KL:
3) Enter Fastboot Mode (Power + Volume Up)
4) Open ASUS Flash Tool
5) Select device & select firmware (select YES on wipe data tab too)
6) Connect phone to PC
7) Hit Start and wait 10-15 minutes (ignore the error 5 [FRP])
MOD EDIT: PAY-PER-CLICK LINKS REMOVED
Thank you, Saktis_STi. But these are Windows tools and I'm running Ubuntu on my local system. No Linux tools available for this task?

Try unlocking your bootloader using the unofficial way located in the Zenfone 3 forum. It should be doable because you only have to boot into your bootloader. You can then flash a custom recovery, such as TWRP, and go in and wipe data, cache + dalvik, and then install a custom ROM. In your case, it looks like the stock recovery can't detect the device model (WW_Phone), so it's most likely that something is wrong with the system partition.

No need. Flash RAW firmware is enough.
Just a quick follow up.
The owner decided to take it a local assist shop. I don't know what method they used, but they managed to reflash the stock firmware back into the device, and it's working fine again.
Thank you all for the tips. If this was my own device, I would be tinkering a lot more. But the owner decided to play safe and pay for repair in some authorized assistence shop.
Best regards all!

Simply put the dload folder in the root of your microsd, power off the phone and boot it again with all 3 buttons (vol+/- and pwr) pressed for 5-8s.
Voila, it should start installing the new firmware.

connect the phone to pc, keep vol- pressed directly after pressing restart on the phone, it should enter fastboot now.
"adb reboot recovery" should work though.
Regards
thank you, I'm gonna try tonight ...
I'm afraid that recovery somehow "disappeared" lol.. when I update from oreo to pie and I changed it to twrp to install magisk! anyway tonight I try, if I get in fast boot I can install recovery (this time pie stick recovery, so I can update to 9.1..cuase if I try "dload" now it just reboot..)

YES ! like that it worked !!! thank you
[EDIT]
so what i want to do is:
fastboot boot recovery.img BUT is not rebooting in recovery( and not loading it )
but it gives me this error: downloading "boot.img" so it's ignoring my command of booting with recovery.img
i've got stock recovery from UPDATE.app file of my actual rom ( 9.0.1.175 )
i didn't want to "install" the recovery cause i'm not sure it's the right file ... : (i've choosen recovery_ramdis.img)

is that the right one? in that case i can just install it .. cvause at the moment i can't reboot in any recovery !
[EDIT SOLUTION]
so since anyone could have my doubts ... here it is my " solution !
at the end i did install stock recovery ( which was RECOVERY_RAMDIS.img got from update.app and extracted by huawei update extractor)
fastboot flash recovery_ramdisk recovery_ramdis.img
than i use
fastboot reboot
and since i had the installation package already in my smartphone it went directly into UPDATING status ( through emui update program )
took less than 5 minutes to update to this latest EMUI 9.1.0.210
and 2/ 3 minutes for honor 8 pro to reboot.. and i had to change my underwear LOL !
at the moment i've lost root ... but probably i can get it back in the same way as i did with previous PIE !
LAST UPDATE ( check my other thread ) .. i could install EMUI 9.1.0.210 and ROOT It !
all working thank you @OldDroid for earlier support and doubts cleaning lol !
whoever wants to root EMUI 9.1.0.210 i made a step to step in Emui 9 with Root Honor 8 pro ( tested by myself ...root 100% working ! ) July 2019 thread!
