How to root 7.1.1? - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello there,
I just bought a Nexus 6P and updated to 7.1.1, but how can I root it?
Thanks

You first need to have the bootloader unlocked. After that you would flash twrp then install SuperSU

You'll find it pretty easily if you try and look for it.

Same process as rooting the previous build. Flash SuperSU in recovery. Pretty basic.

It doesn't matter what build you're on.

Only if you want to use traditional root, which has been discontinued. Systemless root patches the boot.img for you, so all you have to do is flash the zip.

Yes, if you want to root the stock ROM. If you're going to flash a custom ROM just unlock your bootloader, install TWRP, and install the ROM. No need to flash SuperSU first.

No. Unlock bootloader/flash twrp/flash rom of your liking. Just like @Hisenberg said. Make a backup of your stock rom before you wipe and flash a custom one though just in case.

Yes. It does not rely on root. Just unlocked bootloader.

Yes it does. TWRP is what you use to flash SuperSU, which gives you root.

Yeah, but you don't need root to use TWRP. You can flash zips, custom ROMs, kernels, etc all day and not be rooted.

How do I remove TWRP recovery?

I just got my second hand Nexus 6p and the bootloader came unlocked and TWRP is installed.
The updates don't work when TWRP is installed so I want to go back to the stock recovery.
How can I achieve that?
Build number: MMB29P
Android 6.0.1
January 2016 patch.
twrp has nothing to do with not being able to take an update.

read this, regardless.

If you want to return to stock, use fastboot and follow section 10 of this guide by Heisenberg.

I got a notification that there's and update.
So I downloaded it and try to install it but it just takes me to TWRP and nothing happens.

Yes I read it and I'm following the steps now.
But I was just saying that I'm not able to update when TWRP is installed, this guy above said that TWRP has nothing to do with it.

stock recoveries do not allow these sort of updates as they try and protect your device. to do this you need to install a custom recovery such as CWM or TWRP. you can download everything you need through the google play store

Flash this file "RETUAWS_XT1064_5.0.2_LXB22.99-24.4_cid9_CFC.xml" following this guide but after "mfastboot.exe flash system system.img_sparsechunk.3" add this comand "mfastboot.exe flash system system.img_sparsechunk.4" this is VERY IMPORTANT, if you don't add this comand you can't install any OTA, it will give you error.
After that you are going to recive the OTA alert 22.46.12 and then you will be able to receive or intall the 6.0 OTA.
I have just made it and I recive the 6.0 OTA automatically.
For Marshmallow 6.0 Root use this guide other Root methods cause bootloop in official Marshmallow 6.0.

You will have to download the factory image and use FlashFire to flash it onto your system. Just follow the links and do what it says.

Once you are done try to reboot into recovery. If it fails, reboot normally and use FlashFire to flash the latest version of TWRP and SuperSu.
