India DDLR9 - Installation + Root + Mods

Download :
Getting OTA
OTA will be available if you are on full stock Indian ROM.
So user who are on other ROM OR on rooted LR6 with other kernel first follow this
First make backup of your data.
If you are on ICS ROM, wipe cache and data with safe kernel
If you are on GB ROM, straightway wipe cache and data
Check your CSC by *#272*IMEI#
If it is not set to INU, you won't get update, if you have have choice to select INU from list, select it. it will erase your data.
If you dont have INU in the list, Flash CSC of LR6 with CSC tab of PC odin.
PS. All i have described regarding CSC, should be performed under safe kernel.
Once after checking CSC is set to INU, Flash DDLR6 ROM with PC odin, After flashing LR6 successfully you will get OTA for LR9.
Full ROM Installation
You can use PC odin OR Mobile Odin to flash, here below steps for both method.
Installation with PC Odin
1.a Pre installation : (For clean installation, optional)
- Make backup with Titanium Backup or other similiar app.
- First flash GB ROM if you are on any other Custom ROM, wipe cache, data from recovery on GB ROM
- If you are on ICS ROM, flash safe kernel if you are on stock kernel then wipe cache and data
1.b Final Installation
- Download ICS ROM, and extract it to .tar file
- Download Odin, open it
- select PDA tab and point to ROM file. Leave Re-partition, pit, CSC, Phone tab unticked (see Image below)
- Switch off device, Put in download mode (Vol down + Home + Power)
- completely close kies, Anti virus if running
- Connect device to PC
- ID com port shud turn yellow (see image)

Now hit Start
It will start processing and once finish successfully, you can see 'Pass' (see image)
Now disconnect device, it will reboot itself.
Rooting :
Use this thread method 1.
Installation with Mobile Odin Image have name is vary according your ROM, image is just for demo purpose.
If you have rooted device with stock ROM, you can use Mobile odin
-Download ROM and exract file and copy to Int/Ext SD card
-Download safe kernel in tar and copy to SD card
-Open Mobile odin, select open file and point to ROM file you have copied
-Now all required field will be filled up
-Open Kernel tab and point to Safe kernel file in tar, you have copied (see image below)
-Flash
Keyboard error 'null typing'
-Download This
-Flash using PC Odin with CSC tab (recommended on safe kernel)

-Transparent accuwether
-Transparent News and wether
-Call Recording
-15 Toggle systemUI
-TopicWall
Note2/S3 Livewallpaper

Thanks Doc, but what I have observed is that if you have rooted ever and have installed mods or replaced system apps, then OTA is not successful, I was on stock LR6 with stock kernel and INU csc but OTA failed twice (after download, unsuccessful attempt to update), I un-rooted but still no luck, so I tried this,
1. Flashed stock Indian GB firmware using pc odin
2. Performed full wipe in stock recovery
3. Updated to latest available update LR6 using kies.
4. Then updated to LR9 OTA
Now I have rooted it again and have installed all mods

found the ota downloaded but cannot install...
after rebooting it goes into installation screen (green android with rotating Dodecahedron or Icosidodecahedron)
then after 5 sec or 5% cell reboots with message "updating failed try updating through kies later" ( or something like that).
and there is no update for kies as of yet.
what to do??
i am on stock rom with speedmod k3-13 and rooted with CWM method.
i saw your method.. is there any other method.. i dont want to wipe/f reset..

Yes jeetu, that why i have asked to flash stock LR6 before flashing OTA.

Can I flash stock LR6 using Mobile Odininstead of PC Odin? I got the OTA but failes to install because on HydraCore. So need to go back to stock kernel as you advised.

Great!! you can now flash your fav. safe kernel and enjoy it.
OTA works sometimes even if you are rooted but I doubt it works if you have replaced lot of system apps including systemui and all like in my case

I am on lr9 with call mod and 15 toggle and more.
The launcher is fast but somehow little bit laggy.and apps which are on main page which is in sd card then wen u reboot they will disappear....dats not good.
I hav flashed dr ketans pre rooted gb rom and used mobile odin to flash lr6 with stock kernel.
So my lr6 was also rooted.but guys dont put any mod or something please.den i upgraded to lr9 thru ota.nd still was rooted wd supersu and cwm.
Then i flashed hydracore kernel thru mobile odin.so now m on lr9 wd hydracore and with mods

Hii dr.ketan juss now my phone was updated through ota.. My phone showed me.. Updated sucessfully but i cant get home screen..
A black screen qith a notification tray was visible.. Nothng more than that.. I saw the build version from settings it shows LR9.. But i cant see any launcher.. It remains a black screen only with a notification tray.. What to do...???

i was on my wifi connection.. my phone automatically downloaded the update.. so what to do now... shall goto recovery mode and clean the cache??

Go to setting/applications/All/TouchWiz home and clear data, this should solve the problem.

Flashing a Modem:
If you have an invulnerable bootloader, you can flash any of the latest modems through Odin no problem, download and flash under CP.​If the modem does not stick after flashing:
Flash it without Auto-reboot ticked.
Manually turn off your phone (battery pull required), then immediately go back into Download Mode.
Flash it again, then manually reboot the phone (battery pull again) after done.​

Vulnerable: Trippable
Invulnerable: Untrippable under any circumstances while running the bootloader loaded phone. Odin flashing friendly.
Semi-invulnerable: Trippable under one condition (can be ignored if you don't plan to downgrade). Otherwise they are all untrippable.
All 4.3 N900W8 bootloaders are normal bootloaders and will trip when it detects any modification.
All 4.4.2 N900W8 bootloaders are unable to be tripped when doing just rooting and installing custom recovery.
-> The leaked Mexican bootloader allows you to avoid tripping the bootloader even through a downgrade of 4.4.2 to 4.3.
-> Canadian 4.4.2 bootloaders will trip if you attempt any downgrade to 4.3. This is the only issue.
-> You can flash a different modem, a different ROM base (AOSP or TW), CSC, Kernel, Recovery and NOT trip KNOX on any devices.

Currently known N900W8 4.4.2 semi-invulnerable bootloaders: NB7
Currently known N900W8 5.0 vulnerable bootloaders: DOC4
For the people running MI5, MJ1 vulnerable bootloaders (excluding MJ4) and not willing to upgrade to 4.4.2 -> I suggest using URDLV to root without tripping KNOX: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=46818375
For the people running MJ4 vulnerable bootloader and not willing to upgrade to 4.4.2 -> You can use Kingo root to root, however this is a fondly avoided app, as the first version sent your IMEI to a server in China. Hesitant to upgrade to 4.4.2? You're done.
For the people running MJ4 vulnerable bootloader -> I suggest following the guide below this Q&A to get your phone to 4.4.2, so you get the Mexican bootloader to be free of all KNOX and it's dread. (Highly recommended)
For the people running NB7 semi-invulnerable bootloader -> You are free to root, custom ROM flash, replace your kernel, modem updating through Odin, etc. Just do not attempt to downgrade if you want to preserve KNOX.
Q: But but but, what if I.....
A: NA2 bootloader? Nothing you do can touch your bootloader UNLESS you intentionally upgrade your phone through KIES or Odin. These are the only two tools that is able to touch your bootloader. Everything you do will preserve KNOX. The hierarchy of your phone stands so that the bootloader is on top of the recovery partition, and everything else is under recovery. Recovery is unable to touch the Bootloader (like how a normal office worker can't fire their boss).
Q: How about.....
A: NA2 bootloader? You are safe. Stop worrying about sh*t.
Q: How does this work?
A: The Mexican NA2 was a leaked firmware for the N900W8 intended for development devices, it was never released in the "NA#"'s officially for the N900W8 models. (Need confirmation if tripped KNOX on the Mexican version of N900W8) This could mean they turned off the functionality of the security breach on these devices while trying to distinguish the two different N900W8's modems so they don't trip everyone's KNOX when the OTA is released. In layman's terms, the Mexican firmware was the base for the Canadian version, but when applying different patches to distinguish the two regions, they needed a development version that doesn't trip KNOX. The latest NB7 was not patched most probably due to either not noticing this flaw or slow updates as usual (very, very slow).
Q: How do I check my bootloader version?
A: Using @vndnguyen's app on the play store, located here. Look under Firmware Info (in green), and then under Bootloader version. Take the last three characters for the actual bootloader version.

My guide to get any Canadian Note 3 on 4.3 to 4.4.2 safely without tripping KNOX
Credits will also go to @Oogar and @polish_pat for the tutorials and their original files!
This is my version of @Oogar's and @polish_pat's guides, and I will keep them up to date. What's the difference? Well I will keep the links as fresh as possible and mirroring them as I see fit.
I will also provide pictures so that you will be assured you are doing the correct thing.​
Step 0: Verify your BOOTLOADER version
If your bootloader is of version MI5, MJ1 or MJ4, move onto the next step. Click the button below for a brief instruction how to check.
If your bootloader is of version NA2 (somehow) or NB7, skip to the contents of Step 4, however you won't be on a "happy" (invulnerable) bootloader if you are on NB7.
Using @vndnguyen's app on the play store, located here. Look under Firmware Info (in green), and then under Bootloader version. Take the last three characters for the actual bootloader version.
Step 1: Download these files!
Odin v3.09 - Fast Link
Samsung Kies (for drivers) - Direct Link -- Official Samsung Link
PIT File: (PIT) HLTE_CAN_OPEN.pit
BL File: BL_N900W8UBUCNA2_336994_REV03_user_low_noship_MULTI_CERT.tar.md5
AP File: AP_N900W8UBUCNA2_336994_REV03_user_low_noship_MULTI_CERT.tar.md5
CP File: (CP) Rogers Modem.tar
CSC File: (CSC) Canadian Multi CSC.tar
Step 2: I am on MI5/MJ1/MJ4!
NOTE: This will erase all your data from your phone as you will be flashing a LEAKED firmware. Official ROMs do not wipe your data. Make sure you make a backup.
Install Kies, then reboot your computer. (Do not open Kies, it will affect Odin!)
Extract Odin3 on your desktop using WinRAR or 7zip.
Open up "Odin3 v3.09.exe"
Turn off your phone and hold the HOME BUTTON + VOLUME DOWN + POWER BUTTON until you see a warning -> Press Down to Continue.
Plug in your phone using the original USB 3.0 cable (highly recommended)
Step 2 complete! Move onto the next step if you succeeded. If not, try restarting your computer.
Step 3: Odin's opened, device detected!
Make sure your Odin looks exactly like this (as shown in the photo below) with all the defaulted values. Do not tick anything unnecessary that is not mentioned in the photo. If your Odin looks EXACTLY like the photo I showed, move onto the next step (excluding ID:COM values).
Now add in the files you downloaded above according to their bracket names. Make sure that you UNCHECK Re-partition once all the files are set.
Click start and wait for the process to finish!
NOTE: If you can't boot up normally, retry the process above but check Re-Partition in Odin instead.
Step 4: You are now on the famous N900W8 "happy" (invulnerable) bootloader!
If you just want to obtain root and custom recovery, move on to Step 5 and finish there.
If you want to flash ROMs, move on to Step 6. (NOTE: Yes you can follow Step 6 after Step 5, but if you plan to flash ROMs at the start, you don't have to root your current ROM.)
Step 5: I'm not going to flash ROMs, I just need root and custom recovery....
Download ChainFire's CF-Auto Root: Direct from Chainfire's Website
Download the latest TWRP for N900W8: Nicholas' Database or TWRP Server (Slower)
Turn off your phone and hold the HOME BUTTON + VOLUME DOWN + POWER BUTTON until you see a warning -> Press Down to Continue.
Extract "CF-Auto-Root-hlte-hltexx-smn9005.zip" to a specified folder and ONLY touch the .md5 file, DO NOT TOUCH ANY OTHER FILES.
In Odin's AP area, select "CF-Auto-Root-hlte-hltexx-smn9005.tar.md5"
Click Start
Once it is complete, let your phone fully boot into the lockscreen, the put it in Download Mode again.
In Odin, press Reset, then In Odin's AP area, select "openrecovery-twrp-2.8.3.0-hltecan-4.4.img.tar"
Click Start
Once it is complete, take a Nandroid backup and you have finished this guide! DO NOT PROGRESS FURTHER UNLESS YOU WANT TO FLASH ROMs.
If you can't write to your SD card, follow this guide by @Khizar: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2684384
Step 6: I will flash a custom ROM after this....
NOTE: YOU WILL NEED AN EXTERNAL SD CARD FOR THIS AS MOST ROMS WIPE YOUR INTERNAL, MEANING YOU LOSE YOUR INSTALLER PACKAGE WHILE THE AROMA INSTALLER AUTOWIPES, AND THE INSTALL WILL CORRUPT.
Download the latest TWRP for N900W8: TWRP Server
Turn off your phone and hold the HOME BUTTON + VOLUME DOWN + POWER BUTTON until you see a warning -> Press Up to Continue.
In Odin, press Reset, then In Odin's AP area, select "openrecovery-twrp-2.8.3.0-hltecan-4.4.img.tar"
Click Start
Once it is complete, take a Nandroid backup of your current ROM.
Boot into your current ROM and take the Nandroid backup out of your phone's internal storage, and move it into your external SD. [URGENT]
Put your custom ROM you desire into your external SD, in this guide I will be guiding for an N9005 ROM.
Put your custom Kernel you desire into your external SD, you will need an N900T kernel [IMPORTANT, ANY STOCK N9005 KERNEL WILL BREAK WIFI/NFC FUNCTIONALITY] (If AOSP OR S5 ROM, skip this step)
Put this NFC/Wifi/BT fix into your external SD: N900W8 KK WIFI-NFC Fix (NI1 Source).zip -- Thanks a lot @Oogar for the file. (If AOSP OR S5 ROM, skip this step)
Turn off your phone and hold the HOME BUTTON + VOLUME UP + POWER BUTTON until you see "RECOVERY BOOTING..."
Install the three files in this procedure:
Wipe /system, wipe /data, wipe /cache, wipe /dalvik-cache,
FLASH CUSTOM ROM → FLASH N900T KERNEL (SKIP IF AOSP OR S5) → FLASH NFC/WIFI/BT FIX (SKIP IF AOSP OR S5)

All of this makes alot of sense.
Yesterday I tried flashing the Mexican files, but I was unable to flash over the bootloader. It kept on giving me an error saying auth fail.
I decided to simply flash the AP file, and then the chainfire root file and of course the recovery.
I am now running Xnote without any issues as of yet. I will mention that I didn't have WIFI after booting up, but I installed lean kernel and all is happy now.

His was like @Oogar's thread, informative instructions to GET 0x0, but it's not an updating thread that tells you which firmwares are KNOX exploitable, through the different Canadian firmwares
My thread is to inform people about the latest firmwares that are affectable/non-affectable by KNOX, not teaching people how to get KNOX 0x0. This means I will update this thread whenever there's a new Canadian firmware so that the Canadians will know whether it is safe to update to the latest iteration of updates.

NC1 is a Mexico firmware. Meaning you're running on the Mexican version of the N900W8.
If you're running the Mexican N900W8 then sorry, it isn't.
If you're running a Canadian N900W8 with the NC1 firmware, with NA2 or NB7 bootloader, then yes, it is safe.

I'm still alive and well, just no time at all to update. I'm even running stock Rogers right now -_-.
As polish_pat said, feel free to use anything in my thread as I lost track and don't want to update the OP while being uninformed.

I have NA2 bootloaders. Good to know I should be able to flash away without fear of tripping knox. I have been unable to change my modem tho.

Will the Mexican NC1 modem work in Canada, or should I stick with NB7? I'm in a basement, so I'd like to try a different/better/newer modem.

Actually it does matter. Strange how you got it working.
As the newer version has specific changes for the international variant, it won't matter to you as the Canadian version won't need the new fixes that the international variant needs.
I would just flash the hltecan version through recovery, like an update.

first time using Odin to root.
If I am already on version 4.4.2 and NB7 do i just use step 5 to root, or will I still need to do step 0?

As stated on Step 1, if you're already on NB7 you only need to skip to Step 5

Getting to SafeStrap
You must have Root and Safestrap installed. If Not Go here >> [How-To] Root N900AUCUDNL1 4.4.4 (12-24-2014) THANKS !!! @muniz_ri
Download Odin3 installable kernels for NC2 and NJ5 if you don't have them. Kernel_Switch_Odin_v3.09.zip
Unzip Kernel_Switch_Odin_v3.09.zip. For easy access you could place the files in a folder on your desk top 7-Zip
Put your phone in download mod.
Switch off your device completely.
Now, press and hold Volume Down, Home and Power, all at the same time.
Release all buttons when you see the Warning! screen.
Next, press the Volume Up button to confirm that you want to boot Download Mode for your Note 3 device.
Download Mode menu will appear and you can go on with your business, by connecting the phone to your computer.
(Don't forget to put the files your installing on your sdcard) Example: add-on's , custom rom's etc..
Start Odin3 and select the AP-ATT-KOT49H.N900AUCUCNC2-Kernel.tar.md5 install, wait until Odin checks the file then clikck start verify with this picture ID:COM should be light bluegreen
Be ready to press recovery when SafeStrap recovery screen shows up (If you missed the button, then hold down the power button until your phone reboots)
You can backup your NJ5, Install any ADD-ON or even restore a NC2 backup and go back to NC2
Getting Back to NJ5
If your still in SafeStrap Recovery Back out with back button then Press reboot, then Download
Start Odin3 or reset Odin3 and select the AP-ATT-KTU8P-N900AUCUDNJ5-kernel.tar.md5 install, wait until Odin checks the file then clikck start verify with this picture ID:COM should be light bluegreen
Done, You should be booting NJ5

Did not work. Only got black screen after putting nc2 kernel on. Went back to nj5 and all good minus safe strap. I have full root and safe strapped installed

I have not yet updated to 4.4.4 because I did not want to lose the capabilities of Safestrap. Your solution to that dilemma looks promising. But before I do I have a question... I am not being a smartass, I just want to be certain I understand what you have accomplished... You are now running 4.4.4, NJ5, rooted and with Safestrap using the above steps, is that correct? Thanks.

You need to verify that you have busy box installed, safestrap does not tell you if it installed correctly, so download busybox from playstore or from link in OP. safestrap can be installed while your running NJ5, I've done it a hundred times testing safestrap for, @muniz_ri , @hsbadr, @@RErick and Surge1223

yes I am running NJ5 4.4.4 with most Note4 apps, so I have to constantly reboot into recovery to try note 4 apps to test .
This is not something NEW, this is the same steps we had to do when the KitKat OTA came out, before @Hashcode fixed SafeStrap for kitKat.

I had safestrap install prior to the update so I know what the splash screen looks like lol.[emoji1] I have busybox pro but it wasn't installed. So I reinstalled it and now I will see what happens. Thanks for doing this. Will report back!

Carl. I did the same thing you're doing and my phone faints after flashing the NC2 kernel. Just dies to a black screen and never comes back on.

if you did not see the SafeStrap recovery screen then your safetrap recovery is not installed any more for what ever reason. Install Busy Box then Install SafeStrap app and reinstall recovery, You also should get SuperSU prop asking to give BusyBox and SafeStrap permision.

OK I am uploading the zip I put together that I used in the video, you need to do a factory reset when you get in safestrap. This I installs on top of your NJ5.

Yes factory reset if you want the screens and wallpaper at boot
If you do not your screen and setting will stay the same.

So after flashing it I put it into download mode and install NJ5 kernel.

yes, this zip is for NJ5 rom, note 4 apps in it will not run on NC2 kernel.

Soft bricked, can't find stock roms, it's been 18 hours, I'm slowly losing my mind...

SM-N910G, I flashed chainfire's auto root without first using the Dr K/PhilZ forced/submissive whatever kernel first.
I can't seem to find a normal stock rom to push through Odin without encountering a sea of dodgy download sites.
Can anyone help? Just want a 5.1.1 stock rom...
Even any of the other 5.1.1 builds like Simpl, I can't seem to find a tar file.
Any nudges in the right direction would be very handy.

If you want to return to stock.
Download Samfirm from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-s/general/tool-samfirm-samsung-firmware-t2988647
Then extract the files and run the tool.
Then enter the model as SM-N910G and the region you are in (CSC)
Then tick the 'Auto' box and press 'Check Update' and the 'Decrypt automatically'
It should look something like this, I put INS which is for India.

Unless you do not care about downgrading to lower bootloaders. It works fine otherwise. But having it locked does suck if you want to downgrade. No way to do it..... Yet.

Thanks for the help fellas, I ended up finding "N910GDTU1COJ3" which I'm flashing with Odin now.
Next time I'll flash the Dr K kernel before I do anything else...

This morning I grabbed a stock ROM from SamMobile and flashed it with Odin, no joy, stuck loading for about 10 minutes. It stopped boot looping at least.
So now I'm following your procedure, I will let you know how I get on.
It's a shame I can't use ADB otherwise I could just flash the Dr K kernel and then auto root with chainfire's tool... I've gotta use Odin for now...
It's downloading now with a CSC code of OPS...

After ODIN flashing, when it hangs, pull battery go into stock recovery and do factory reset.

I can't extract the enc4 files, both 7zip and WinRar don't recognise it...
Tried downloading twice...
I'll go back to my SamMobile download and see if factory resetting will work as suggested by DS...

V Frustruating, the stock recovery doesn't allow you to do anything.
I need to convert Dr K's kernel to a tar file somehow so I can flash in Odin... I'm on 5.1.1 and there is a known issue with the bootloader.

There seems to be some confusion here, people are telling me, even on other threads, to do a factory reset in the stock recovery tool.
There might be an issue with recovery then, because I've only got a green android logo with "Downloading..." on the screen, nothing else is available to me.
It's not like previous bootloaders I've used where you use the volume key to select options etc, I literally can't do anything except flash from Odin.
Yes I have tried to flash TWRP using Odin, it didn't work...

OMG... By random luck I decided to hold the volume up key instead of down key when powering on and hey presto I have TWRP...
36 hours of my life I want back!

That's how to boot into recovery. By holding Volume UP, Home Button while powering on.

thanks for your responce. but i need more accurate details in regards with the process. i read lots if post about rooting note 4. cannot search exact procedure for my note. get confuse on bootloader is locked on my device and need modified kernel. can someone enlighten me please..

Download Odin 3.10.7, from sammobile or any place else. Just use Google.
Download TWRP from their website, latest version, make sure to download for G model, and the .tar format, not zip or anything else.
Download SuperSU zip from chainfire's website, and have it placed on your phone's storage.
Now put the phone in download mode (volume down+power), connect to computer, run Odin, press the Volume up to continue. You SHOULD see one of them tab in Odin saying "connected" in blue that means your phone is connected. Now put the downloaded TWRP .tar image under AP tab of Odin, and hit on start.
Your phone will restart and you should have TWRP installed now. To confirm power off phone, press volume UP and power this time, you should see TWRP booting. From there just navigate to that SuperSU zip you downloaded and placed on your phone's internal/external storage, and select and flash that file. Phone will reboot twice on itself, and you are done, rooted.
To make sure whether root is perfect or not, install Root checker basic app from Play. Oh and install Busybox on rails afterwards too.

Yes, that's the website bro, and that's the Note 4 section as well
Hit on the India option, then download the very first tar.img link, so trlte is us
They use different type of model names actually, so when we type in Note 4 we just have to see whether it matches our chipset and not from a different region.

theres no australia listed on twrp page. there is international option but it for n910f.

On N910G 5.1.1, just flashing SuperSU zip won't work.. It will NOT root the device properly..

After flashing kernel flash SuperSU zip...
Try Nameless kernel latest version..
