recent apps view issue after system update WW_13.20.10.79_20161009 - Asus ZenFone 3 Questions & Answers

Hi all,
after the system update version WW_13.20.10.79_20161009 , pushing recent apps button, the view of open apps wasn't as usual like a group of 3D tabs with a wonderful
effect in scrolling among them. but as a flat view. In other words every app appears below the previous, not in 3D style view as usual.
Anyone can help me to understand if this is right after the update, or it 's a misconfiguration of my update or a particular settings that I need to apply ?
Thank you in advance
Roberto

Got the same behavior and found no settings for that. And after a day, I found it OK.

And the notification on expanded status bar sometimes become 3d like recent too

Bought my phone(ZE552KL) 3 days ago(Canada) and today installed a new update called MMB29P.WW_Phone-13.20.10.131-20161028 So while I can't compare since the first I did when I got the phone in install all updates, the background apps list does look VERY 2D and flat like you said. And honestly I'm having a hard time seeing if an app is in the background or in the foreground.
Still ****ing love this phone tho!

HTC Hero - Éclair [2.1] Information

HTC HERO ECLAIR 2.1
written by MysteryHero
After the success of HTC Hero's debut, it is time that we are all getting ready to update our beloved device. HTC Hero will become one of the very first Android phones to power the new 2.1 Android firmware. HTC Hero has truely made it's debut unique through proudly presenting the features such as the new Sense UI from HTC, but you may be wondering what has actually changed in this new firmware update? So let's begin and take a exclusive preview on the upcoming features.
This post will be updated regulary and you can even re-post this article with my authors credit.
Futhurmore if you wished to contact me, please PM me via XDA-Developers Original topic at: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=5080445#post5080445
Please note that all this information is gathered from the Lox v1.4 rom which can be found at HTCpedia, information may change while the article develops.
Bluetooth submited by habibas
You may now send files to other phones but this is restricted to the type of file your media is.
Browser
The browser hasn't been updated alot, but there has been a few tweaks that make it easier to use. Firstly the navigation tab above is now attached to the top instead of overlaying the top page. This has solved the annoying google problem where you would not be able to select the navigation links under the overlay for example, On Google's homepage you couldn't select the mail/news/images link until the page fully loaded.
Another minor UI change is featured in the loading bar, the input url box will now feature a sparkling green bar which will fill up as the page loads, this has removed the thin green loading bar below the screen in 1.5.
One final change which will effect the HTC browser is that the Google search in landscape mode will now function correctly. That's right folks! no more bouncing keyboard.
It seems the Flash has been improved, don't hold my word on it but it seems like it's running Flash 10? The lite version before didn't let me load Imeem's flash player but it seems like it's running like a charm now, Youtube desktop version also worked. Maybe not at it's best but it works.
Google Navigation
Googles GPS has finally arrived onto HTC HERO. You will ofcourse need to hack the application if you're from United Kingdom (Which works with Lox 1.4) You need to install the Voice data/ Nav Launcher and ofcourse the Maps 3685 (?) build? (I opted for non-rotted apk)
Home
The highly rumoured Landscape Rosie has been introduced, you can now rotate your Hero sideways. The clock, application short cuts will be left intact, and usable. Although phone panel on the right is not finished, the icons aren't properly positioned, but this should be fixed by HTC in a more recent build.
You can now pinch zoom the home screen and be welcomed by an overview of the seven different states. You can tap a screen to quickly change state which may come handy if you don't want to slide through multiple states.
Icons
New icons are presented in the Application menu:
Google Talk
Youtube
Maps
Market
Call History
Calculator
(HTC icons seems to be unchanged)
Loading
While the device loads, there is now a new spinning spindle. It looks alot better even if it is a small touch but makes it very nice.
Market
Updated to the new market, you can now see top paid, top free or all. It's more organised and the usability has improved overall. Expect to see a more friendly version of Googles Market.
Settings
The new settings menu have been organised into more precised catergories. This change was seen on the Droid and will be in 2.1. You can navigate through the settings easier and will be able to select some new options.
Sync
RRS Reader is inbuilt and you can read RRS feeds without installing any applications. You can also sync to Flickr and Google. HTC has also newly added sync options for Plurk, Exchange Active sync and Htc Facebook (Revised?).
Text-To-Speech
Text-to-Speech added, Google Navigation anyone? Yepp Text-to-speech is the library that is used with Google Navigation. You can now type text and it'll speak it out. You can also change/install new languages.
Weather Animation
Weather Animation makes a return in this new firmware. The removed feature in the revised 1.5 rom disappointed alot of users but it's now made it's return. The animation effect is basically a home screen effect inwhich when you greeted with weather animations occuring on your home screen which occurs if it's raining/snowing/lightning etc. Eye candy.
Notification Bar
There is a new icon for SD card, this will be shown once a memory card is inserted/loading/removed.
(Recent) The background of the Notification pull down is transparent, you can see through the overlay.
Messages
The Messages application has now been slightly updated, the text is larger. Although the people application isn't correctly working for me, I'm unsure wither it's actually for the better or worse since the text was completely fine before. Let's hope the final smooth build will fix some of the small problems introduced in this update.
Wallpapers
You can now select Wallpapers from your Home Gallery which includes all the original wallpapers in the default Android Gallery + the ones you add. You can also choose the Rosie wallpapers which have been left intact.
One feature that seemed amissed was the missing option of choosing a Rosie wallpaper for your lock screen, well good news! You can now select a Rosie wallpaper with a few simple clicks.
Widgets
There seems to be a new option to get more HTC widgets in the widget panel. This could be updates to the current widgets in the future or new skins (clock) or brand new widgets like the power control.
There is a new power control widget that can be added to your home screen. This widget is basically a quick switch for turning on/off the following: WiFi, Bluetooth, Mobile, Sync. You can also switch different brightness levels through the last button. (Dimmest, Normal, Brightest)
Untouched submited by JBNAquatics
Music Application
Calender
Slightly Modified submited by JBNAquatics
The call settings now have a "Silent" and a "Speaker" button that you can press directly like the Sprint Hero
Gmail appearance has been slightly modified but there are no new features
Camera and Camcorder has a slightly new appearance modification to match Donuts, but no new features
Rings extended (app) finally works on this ROM
You can now choose to link which accounts you want (Google, Facebook, or both)

the Lox ROM is already available, in fact you can download it at HTCpedia, but be warned as the ROM is not complete and it's not a final build. A more recent rom has been leaked by Kingklick but is only available for G1/Magic 32B.
Here is the link to Lox Rom 1.4: http://htcpedia.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1417
Will the newer rom leave me with less usable memory on the device?
Pete
you forgot to mention the bluetooth has been enabled to send and recive files
but the type of the files are limited to the media only that's disappointing
Can you please explain what you mean by this??

Is there now weather animation under the clock?? Or do you mean there is animation when you are using the weather application?
Thanks

Yes, I believe I only had around 100mb when I first upgraded the firmware. However this might change as this is not the final build.

I just fired up my nandroid build and saw that the widget on the home screen can reproduce the same weather animation, therefore I think it's just an option to switch the animations on and off. However, the clock widget isn't really working, therefore there still could be hope.
The Bluetooth and Browser sections are somewhat mixed.
Alright here's what I've gathered from the posts on HTCPedia and from my own user experiences:
-Rings extended (app) finally works on this ROM
-You can now choose to link which accounts you want (Google, Facebook, or both)
-Music player is left untouched
-Camera and camcorder are left untouched (they do not have the "new" 1.6 Donut look)
-Calendar is also left untouched
-Gmail has a different look to it but virtually untouched
-The call settings now have a "Silent" and a "Speaker" button that you can press directly like the Sprint Hero
WPA2 Enterprise
Are WPA2-Enterprise Certificates supported in 2.1? I am wondering, because it was already built into 1.5, but when hitting the button "add certificate" it wouldn't work (Settings > Wireless > WLAN > Advanced > Security Certificates). This was obviously a bug. Does this work now, or was it removed?
what about the rumours that eclair will support 262k colors, and enhance the onscreen colors of the hero from 65k to 262k. can anybody confirm that?
i can't imagine this happening, but still wanted to ask

They have removed this, or re-located it to somewhere else. I've tried finding it but no luck

I thought this was aimed specifically at XPERIA 10, but I've really not noticed other than the menu may seem a bit crisper than before.
Have they managed to fix the alarm in this buld?
There was a bug on the current build that stops the alarm from working correctly. You turn it on and the alarm goes off but it doesn't make a sound at all, or nothing happens when it is supposed to go off.

Any idea which files? I asume jpegs and mp3s would be fine? Although perhaps I shouldnt assume anything!
The one thing I would like to see is the HTC slide to answer when receiving a call that was present on the Touch Diamond - slide left to answer slide right to reject!
Hi guys,
little offtopic question of you don't mind..
Can someone PM me what the normal price is for HTC Hero?
I'm using Kaiser and before Herald. but will switch
Thanks...
will htc hero eclair update provide the option to switch to standard android apps.
in example i think the default android calendar looks much much better than the htc sense calendar since htcs version has no week view and no timelines on monthview.
Is this possible? Or did htc at least add timelines to their calendar app?
I want rubber-band effect on all scrollable pages, e.g. settings.
another question:
will the 2.1 update swipe the old device again, like the first HTC Hero update did?
So this means setting up the phone completely from scratch again? Or is this an update which will keep the current settings/apps and so on...im afraid this is not the case

Windows Phone Android

Android Technical --
Android Technical just published "Windows Phone Android", a windows phone metro UI launcher for android. The lite version is now in the Android Market.
Lite version include:

Confirmed and working on the Tmobile HTC G2 2.2 stock. Now my phones screen looks like my wifes HD7. I cant wait to show her. LOL. I cant wait for the updates and pro version. Good work on this app.
There is a bug on the first tile issue. We'll look into it. We also noticed that we have issues with ldip (240x320) devices too. Thanks for the feedbacks so far.
Looking Gr8 thank you I have been try to achieve this look all month!! please keep us posted with updates looking forward to donate version!
on my vibrant 2.2 loading the full list of apps as well as pinning to start is just too slow. Is this only on mine?
Works amazingly. Nice and fast on 2.1 fascinate. Thank you so so much. Can't wait for pro version

I'm loving this launcher, and I've been looking forward to someone doing this. I've tried the light version and anticipating the pro versions, but I was just wondering (if you haven't already thought about it yet) are you going to make it able for the user to chose it's own tiles to represent an app. For example, I don't use android messenger, I use handcent. So when I pinned Handcent to the quick start it has the blue icon and it's called Handcent, and I would want it to be a live tile and just call messaging.
Just bringing this to your attention, looking forward to the pro version. Keep it up.

I think you are the second person with vibrant that is telling us that it is slow. We tested on devices that we have. Nexus One, T-Mo Comet, and LG Optimus T. I will see what I can do. Even on the Comet (528mhz) it is working so... something might be wrong with your phone but I would love to see it in person to see the actual speed differences.

Our thoughts are to keep the light simple and plain (thus lite and free). More of a demo version if you want to think of it that way. We will have the regular version with some user enabled features and pro with our own live tiles and hubs and such (eg, new contacts screens, new music player etc). Nothing is fully set in stone yet. Just wanted to see how people will like the idea. Considering it took 2 people to code this in about 30 hours each, it's not bad. But we do android rapid prototyping and deployment for a living though.
Is there supposed to be a battery indicator in the status bar? I don't have one. And signal doesn't really respond there. Also I have to swipe up or down to see anything other than the time. Which I think is kinda cool actually. Just wondering if that's normal. Thanks, and fantastic work.

That is normal. Just the way WP7 does that status bar. It is missing battery indicator. We will put it up with the next update. The status bar comes down for 8 sec on real WP7. Ours does the exact same thing (sans animation)
Really good. Works very good on my galaxy s! Waiting for the pro version! I'll offer you more than a coffe!
Pretty slick! Can't wait to see some new features. It'd be nice to use custom icons, say if we use another app for our dialer or messenger, or even for completely different apps! Custom colours would be nice, too.
Found a bug though, if you open the settings and exit it, and go back, there are some weird glitches, you'll see. (this is if you're not using it as a launcher)
EDIT: A page for widgets would be awesome if you could work that out, or at least a way to quickly change settings(wifi, gps, etc)
EDIT2: A way to move tiles around would be good.

[Q] New persistent notification in 4.3

Is it possibile to clear the new persistent notification of running app in the notification bar?
I mean, there are apps that are supposed to be running as a background service, can I put trusted app in a white list so I don't see them in the notification bar anymore?
I have tried to uncheck the option in the setting page (as shown in the screenshot attached), but the notification will appear again.
This is so annoying, any workaround?

guys, read this.. http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/0...tifications-after-you-upgrade-to-android-4-3/
Have Persistent Notifications After You Upgrade To Android 4.3
Posted by Bertel King, Jr. in News
Anyone who has made the jump to Android 4.3, which admittedly isn't that many people right now, may have noticed that some applications now plant persistent notifications in the status bar. We offered this as a disclaimer in our post about manually updating a Nexus 4 to Android 4.3. Turns out, this is completely intentional. Android now forces persistent notifications on unkillable apps that run silently in the background. This is an attempt to call attention to behavior that isn't quite okay.
Notifications3
Many developers have made their applications impossible to kill and don't alert users to the fact that they're still running. They do this by creating a malformed notification object that doesn't appear in the status bar but still tricks the activity manager into allowing the service to enter the foreground. This is great for snooping, but that doesn't mean that only malicious apps adopt this behavior. As Artem's screenshots show below, the Network Monitor Mini Pro was one offender, but the developer has since updated the app to fix the problem.
Notifications1 Notifications2
While Android developers originally wanted to force quit apps that submit malformed notifications, there are simply too many out there for this to be a usable approach. Instead, Android will alert users to the offending apps, and developers will probably be inclined to change their software once users stop using their products and/or bring public shaming down on their heads. Hopefully the bulk of them will have been fixed by the time most phones make the jump to the latest version of Jelly Bean.

Weird approach from Google. So all the fuss is from forcing app devs to remove fake invisible nottifications , they can sill run in foreground or background!?!?! And all the masochists loving this. •_•
I've read about new Google policy, but what I'd like is the possibility to put some applications in a trusted-app list that gives us to choice if clear them from the notification bar.
This new feature by Google is helpful for all the malicious-purpose applications that are running in background without our assent, but once you notified me let me also choose how to manage them.
Maybe this could be an idea for a new app development by someone in this forum.

The ability to whitelist is an excellent idea, but it would require opening new security restrictions. Considering Google's new Apple like approach, it would be surprising this would be allowed.

My Android P DP2 Experience

Just wanted to add my 2 cents on the DP2 of Android P.
So far my favorite thing is how fluid it is and how nice the animations are (it's more fluid than Oreo in every way -- animations, scrolling, opening apps, switching windows, etc.) . The animations are especially nice when using the Pixel launcher. You lose certain animations when using 3rd party launchers. I've always used third party launchers since 2011 because stock ones never have the features I want but The Pixel launcher on Android P is pretty dang cool. I still miss options like no widget padding, icon packs, icon and folder resizing, gestures, custom desktop and app drawer spaces, but even losing all that is worth it with how amazing Android P runs with the Pixel launcher.
My battery life was terrible the first 2 days and I was considering going back to Oreo but it seems to have settle down now. I still feel I was getting slightly better battery life on Oreo but I can't say for sure. I know others have said they are getting better battery life on P but so far that hasn't been my experience.
I haven't run into any major bugs and have only experienced a couple minor issues like brief freezing (1-2 seconds and has only happened a few times), and had recent apps freeze up twice but hitting the home button fixes it. I know some have reported a lot of apps crashing but I don't use many apps and haven't had any issues there.
For me it's a DD. Wi-Fi Tethering, calling, texting, bluetooth, and GPS all work with no issues.
I'm not a fan of some of the new UI changes but overall it definitely seems like a good step up from Oreo. I can't wait to see how it develops over the next 6 months.
Nice write up! Agree this P is getting better and better!

Could be an issue with the beta... I never thought much about it.
I beta test FB as well, and had issues trying to get the app to install too. I have it installed on my s9+, but couldn't get that one to update, so I found the apk for the version that's on the s9+, and it was able to install on the Pixel 2xl DP2. This leads me to believe it's the FB app itself, and not the phone.

I went back to Oreo the same day I flashed P DP2. This was the same day DP2 was released. I don't remember every detail but here are the things that made me go back:
- A handful of apps would simply not work/open. I forgot which ones they were.
- I don't like the way the Quick Settings look.
- I don't like it that the Quick Settings wont open a quick detailed view and instead just open the settings app. Seems minor, but is a step-back if you ask me.
- QS icons in landscape mode are out of place.
EDIT: - Accessing the settings app via notification drawer now requires you to pull down the drawer completely. That's because the gear icon becomes only visible/accessible when it's fully expanded, while in previous Android versions, like O, the gear icon was visible even on a collapsed notification drawer.
I reeeeally love the new sound controls!
very ugly LTE icon
Literally the only thing I don't like is that the gesture bar is still eating up screen space like the nav bar did and WTF on the LTE font/icon. There is no reason to not expand displayed content all the way to the edge of the display and have the pill hover over the content. Also I see no reason for the back button. If swiping in one direction takes you back to the last used app, make swiping the other direction the back button inside an app. Other than that, I much prefer the roundness of the UI seeing the the display corners of my Pixel 2XL are rounded. It just looks more cohesive. I was a huge fan of Flux Ui, so P taking on that styling cue is another plus to me. Also the animations are much better. I haven't tested a full day of usage for screen on time yet without my phone touching a charger at some point, but the fact that I'm consistently getting a 1 to 2 percentage battery drop overnight is already better than any android version I've been on.

I agree on all your points but for me the fluidity and animations more than make up for it. Hopefully some of those things you mentioned get addressed. I definitely do not like the new QS style.

Agreed. That's is one of the new ui changes I'm not a fan of at all. It looks like it belongs on a phone from 6 years ago. Perhaps they did for people who are far sighted but it would be nice to have the option to use the old little LTE and 3g icons.

The gesture bar needs some refinement. I hate the back button as well. They need to at least make it have rounded corners and solid to match the rest of the ui. The sharp corners and hollow look really doesn't match and looks awful.
LTE and 3G icons are awful.
For some reason my battery just isn't performing as well on P as it did on Oreo. Especially the AOD -- it chews my battery up. It still easily get through the day with plenty of juice to spare and I work at home and always have a charger handy so it's not a problem.

[solved] 2 side panels appears since Pie update

Hello,
Since PIE update I have an annoying problem.
2 side bars similar to edge sidebar (when its closed) appears on my screen (see screenshots).
Theese two bars don't have any actions and can't be swiped., but make little vibrate on swipe.
The main problem is the right sidebar is too close of the send button (messages/whatsapp & messenger) and make half of it don't react (and send message on click).
Here is my observations :
- it's shown over all elements (desktop, app list, all applications)
- it's not visible on lock screen
- it don't show up in Android safe mode
I've dig for hours, and try several methods without success :
- reboot (look stupid, but must be said )
- disable the real Edge sidebar
- disable Samsung Pay
- remove autorisations for ALL apps to overlay on other apps (screenshot)
- change default keyboard (with swiftkey & Gboard)
I've turn my display to night theme to highlight these sidebar, but they're still there in day mode.
I'm now out of idea... the fact it don't show up in safe mode would orient me to app issue. But due to overlay settings no apps are supposed to being able to do this (except secure folders that can't be disabled)... I have many apps it would be painful to remove /reinstall them...
Did anyone already faces similar issue?
Any idea on how to fix it, or where to dig for?
Thanks a lot in advance for your feedbacks, any help will be highly appreciated
Benoît
I have the very same problem. By using instragram, I have noticed that I cannot click the like button when the like button is near the white bar. So I am thinking that the white bar shows where the edge of the display is disabled to block "unwanted" touch. I also find it very annoying. Help?
Resolved. Before the Pie update, I have installed here from XDA a package of various apps ported from Pie I think. I had to uninstall the one called something like "one hand +". Once uninstalled, the two bars got removed.
Ohhhh Thanks for your fix !!!!
I've dig around Good lock features yesterday, but forget this one.
Problem solved!
