[Q] Does anyone elses phone take forever to clear cache in stock recovery? - Moto G4 Play Questions & Answers

Whenever I have to clear cache in the stock recovery, this phone takes over [BOLD]5 minutes[/BOLD] to complete. Every other phone I have had only took 30 seconds at most. I'd this normal? BTW, I have the XT1609 variant.

Yeah....same here.
I tried once and it took around 4-5 minutes. Dont know why...

Yep, same here.
I have the xt1609 variant as well and I cleared cache once and it took about 5 minutes.
Not sure why this is, but it seems to be standard with this phone. I don't think this indicates a software or hardware issue.

Sorry for the late response. I guess the question doesn't mean much anymore personally as my Moto G4 Play was stolen on the 26th of October... :/

Do you have a source for this?
Any have any trouble keeping their Root? I'm still on 4.1.1 and looking to upgrade to KK. Phone kept failing to upgrade to 4.1.2 so i just disabled the update service.
Anyone got any OTA files yet? haven't found anything yet searching google.
I sorta wonder if I should upgrade. I actually reset all my Google apps back to the factory because the upgraded ones (a little while back) were using too much memory and too many wakelocks and this and that. So I'm wondering if I need an even smarter Google Now and whatever else is new. Right now, the phone is fast, the battery lasts forever... nothing is broken.

Ya know... my phone has not been itself for the past few weeks either. It gets really hot and the battery is not lasting at all lately. I'm on travel now and working in a crappy VZW coverage zone so I thought that was my problem..but I'm going to trying re-setting the google apps. Do you any feel for which one(s) might be the most likely culprits?

When my phone gets too hot I have to put 2G instead of 4 or 3G. a bad signal can eat your battery in a matter of second. Try to clean your active apps as much as you can.

I really couldn't tell ya. If I had been able to isolate the app, I wouldn't have needed to resort to the full system wipe. I've got most of everything re-installed except for a few apps that really didn't use anymore. I'll pay attention as load a few more to see if the problem comes back and I can relate it to a specific app.
Will anyone try to unlock our bootloades or find an exploi on kitkat? I had to get a new RAZR and it came with 9.20.1xt926 so as of now I'm stuck locked and stock. Sure would be awesome of we got another chance with 4.4

Are you running the stock ROM or a custom one? In my experience these things typically happen when overclocking the CPU or low RAM. If you are running stock the answer may not be so easy unless there are several apps with very high RAM & CPU consumption running. However with 3GB of RAM it's kind of hard to see that.
It's stock. Nothing has been done to it whatsoever. She said also that, sometimes she would bump it just by handling it that it would shutoff. So the only thing I can think of is maybe an app that she downloaded that's causing this. She also stream movies in her phone by way of a third party torrent. So hope me telling you this will get some gears going.

If just bumping it causes a shutdown than that sounds hardware related, no app would do that. It could be some damage in there. Sometimes it's a defect, age or a stiff knock to the ground can do it if you don't have a good case. That's a worse case scenario because once these things start it's all downhill. If you have someone locally that repairs phones, take it to them & get a quote. If they want anymore than $100 I'd get another phone.
Ok. But what about it just random shut off? The bumping of it is just some times.
Only thing else I can tell you is to open the task manager and see how much RAM is being used. If it's running near full capacity as in 2.7 or 2.8 find out which app is the memory hog and dump it. This is just grasping at straws because like I said, I don't see this device crashing frequently like legacy devices do.
Ok. Will do and I'll post back.
Sorry for being slow. Would that be under storage?

No, just long press the home key. Then when recents pop up select task manager, then RAM.
Nothing that she has on her phone isn't anything out the ordinary thars using a lot of ram. What she has in there isn't contributing to her random reboot because those apps were on there before it started doing this. Her Android version is 5.0. I don't know if a older version could be contributing to this. When I asked her to check for updates, it just told her no updates available at this time, check back later. So now what?

The OS is fine, 5.0 is what I have and I have had no issues. I have read in some other posts around here from people who upgraded from KK and later had problems, mine shipped with 5.0 already installed. If you want to downgrade to stock 4.4.4 there are threads around here to tell you how to do it. If the issue persists after that I'd start shopping.

If you haven't already. ..factory reset the phone. She'll have to reload contacts and apps...but if they're backed to to Google...they will be reloaded once she signs in with her google account.
The factory reset has "fixed" many issues with upgraded phones.
And then there is the obvious...is the battery properly seated?

Not sure what you mean by "unlocked" since none of the Verizon phones were SIM locked. If you mean "rooted," you said it was on Android 5.0....that can not be rooted, so it's not rooted now.

All Verizon Note 3's are SIM unlocked. You can use any carrier's SIM...but...you may not be able to get 4G LTE data because other carriers may use frequencies not available in the Verizon Note 3. Check with YOUR carrier first.

Ok great. So resetting it isn't a factor. I'll check the frequency.

My family is from Missouri! I get that joke!
We all need more skepticism these days. Given the time lapse already since the India G4+ release, I'm starting to doubt it gets released at all.
Hi,
I updated my Moto G4 to Nougat last week. Everything was fine. Yesterday there was some 114 mb ota update. I downloaded it and since then I am facing two issues-
1. Whenever I lock the screen using the power/lock button on the side, the screens becomes black and white for a millisecond and then it gets locked. I haven't seen any other phone's screen becoming black and white for a tad and then lock. Is everyone experiencing the same?
2. The battery is draining just way too fast. 40% depletion since morning. I only used the phone to make two 4 minutes phonecalls. I did not install any new app or game. Any troubleshooting for this?
This is the build number etc.-

Maybe an updated version of software by Google will fix the BLOD

Hello guys.
I live in South Korea and just had contact with customer service.
They said once my warranty is now passed, they might not be able to provide me a free repair, but google will soon release an update that is supposed to fix the BLOD(Boot Loop Of Death), so I'd better wait for it.
I don't know if it will work, but for me, and people having a phone which can't even get to recovery but only bootloader, who seem to have nothing to lose, this update will worth the wait.
Let's hope that's true and we can get our 6P back to life.
Didnt Google mentioned BLOD is a hardware issue earlier?

Yeah. There's a news that Google said it's hardware problem, but Huawei did say the upcoming update will fix it.
IDK which one is truth.. just hoping simply updating software will fix it.

If it's a software issue why does it happen with Marshmallow, Nougat and custom ROMs? I don't think Huawei is being honest.

Oh it didn't occured to me..
I also have some doubt that it's a software-related problem, because downgrading to MM doesn't even work.
Well, maybe they are fixing bugs that they haven't found before, or also maybe, the defective OS has triggered something..
I'm not sure that update will fix my phone, but for now, this is my last hope.

Good luck but I honestly wouldn't get my hopes up too high. But you aren't the first person Huawei told this to. Hopefully there is something to it besides them trying to brush people off. I personally think people should file a class action suit against Huawai since the phone appears to be defective and it should last for more than a year given its premium price. I've never had a phone from HTC, LG or Samsung break, no matter how long I kept using them. I've never even heard of another phone that has all the issues the 6P does.

Yeah I'm suspecting if there's an inherent hardware defects, and if that's the case, I think they should provide us a proper support like LG providing refund of Nexus 5x in US.
But, I'm not an expert and don't know what caused boot loop.
As I saw another person who may live in another country of mine, heard from Huawei that update will fix the problem, there may be something google is preparing for.
For now, there best thing I can do, is wait android 7.1.2 beta image.
If it won't work, that's a problem of then.
p.s. luckily I have unlocked bootloader, but considering boot looping devices can update their software only through unlocked bootloader, what should normal people having locked bootloader should do?

Maybe you're right.
I'm not sure if the update will fix my phone, and whether they meant 7.1.2 beta or officially update.
I also have a bad feeling that my phone won't back, but if this phone doesn't return, I have no choice but keep using my old-fashioned Nexus 5.
If the beta update doesn't fix it, maybe I'll just give up or give it a second chance for official update.. but for now, I can see some hope because Huawei said it to me.
There's some news about what I tried, but there ain't good things.
First, I downloaded N4F26O update(https://developers.google.com/android/images), which was uploaded in 2 days ago(Yeah, I only thought about 7.1.2 beta, abd didn't think about this) and installed it.
It didn't work.
So I contacted with Huawei and Google's consumer care center.
Huawei said, to talk about softwares, I should contact with Google.
Google said, they didn't receive any plan of the update which is supposed to fix boot loop. I got confused, since a days ago, Huawei once did say there will be that update.
They also said, if I have a secondary phone, I'd better use that phone and see if the update will be released and fix my phone.
So... I didn't gain anything. Google and Huawei both said they can't assure the update will fix the bootloop, and the only clear solution is to change its motherboard.
Well, I won't give up, at least unti thel 7.1.2 beta's release, but I'm tired and for now, have nothing to do.
I'll just wait for the 7.1.2 beta.
I'll just keep waiting...
If you feel compelled to support, and bring attention to this issue.

Since you have nothing to lose, why not try this while you are waiting. I would direct any questions you have about this method to the dev.

But that's seems to be for devices that's stuck in EDL mode.
I still can access bootloader, so thank you for your advice, but that seems to not work.
I'm afraid that you'll have to let this go.. Huawei is know for telling customers BS on the phone. Even the warranty repair center sucks. They downgrade people their phones and say that the battery issue is now resolved. It really is a shame, but they don't give a rat's *ss about you or any other customer who has already paid for the product.
