I love this phone! - Nexus 6 General

I have been using the Nexus 6 for a couple of days now and I absolutely love this device. It's the only phone I like that is out now, it's incredible to me how ****ty the phone market is atm. I haven't been that excited to use a device since the Note 7 came out. I got the Nexus 6 used, and now I am even gonna get a brand new one. I could probably rock it for another year until they kill the security patches (so I've heard)
I can't believe I slept on this phone for sooooooo long!!! And to think of all the **** I was using in between, Sony, LG, HTC a few Sammys etc.
I wish the Pixel would've been more similar to the Nexus line. I just realized the potential this line had. Tragic....
Anyone of you totally enamored with this phone as well? Any accessories you can recommend? Any tips and tricks?

In case you want root access etc.
I use a prerooted lite stock rom.
Recently updated to Nougat.

Cool. I'll definitely check that out!

Ordered Refurb Nexus 6's for the Mrs & I. IMO the best alternative to the Note 7 until something better comes out from Samsung.

Yes the pixel should have been dual speaker and wireless charging standard, especially with those huge bezels. I have no idea when Google will get there head out of there arsesw

I've had my Nexus 6 for almost a year and I absolutely love it also. I would recommend a nice case and a screen protector. Look around for what works for you because at one point I ended up buying around 10 cases and I finally settled on one specific case , https://www.amazon.com/SUPCASE-Google-Unicorn-Premium-Motorola/dp/B00OHFGUDU/ref=sr_1_4?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1477423081&sr=1-4&keywords=nexus+6+case
Its a nice case with good grips on the side. Not badly priced and will take quite a few drops/falls. Skinomi is a good option for a screen protector. I definitely agree with what you previously said. I went with the 64gb version as previously with my Nexus 5 I had the 32gb option and I found I was using most if not at least half of the 32gb at any given time. But regardless of what storage option you chose this is a solid device overall

I am still in love with this phone. I've had it for 2 years now and have no desire to upgrade. Its a pleasure to use. Loud a** speakers , great battery life & it's fluidity. Add it's open nature, this phone is a beast.

What is meant by "I could probably rock it for another year until they kill the security patches"? I'm wanting to buy a Nexus 6, but not if I can only use it for a year.

You can still use the phone for however long you wish Google just stops providing further security updates. 2 years guaranteed whatever happens after that is a plus, Oct 14 is when Nexus 6 was released

[Q] Should I buy a Nexus 4 with it being almost a year old?

I've been debating buying a Nexus 4 for awhile. At this point, do you guys still think its worth it? I've heard rumors that they might be coming out with a new model this year, plus we have the GS4 and the HTCOne coming out very shortly. Do you guys think its worth the money? I really like the OS, no carrier stuff in it. Plus I'm off contract with ATT, so I dont have to worry about that, ill have good service.
-Thanks
I would still buy it. The N5 is still a rumour and anyway regardless if it does come out you'll always get OS updates before Samsung and HTC.
Maybe wait for a while for the much rumoured Motorola x? Nexus 4 is worth the money. You get what you paid for. Except for sd card and battery life, everything about this is excellent! I am overlooking the camera cuz no one should expect a dslr quality image from a mobile phone.
I am very happy with my nexus 4. Whoever I show it to, is really pleased with design of this device. They have never heard of this phone. In fact the nexus line. Imho, if you look for features on a smartphone go for Samsung, if you look for pure stock experience with updates and support go for nexus 4.

Nexus 4 was released in November. Today it's the 1st of April. Yep, almost a year, only some 7 months short..
Hmm OK, I'll probably pick one up then. I'm just tired of always purchasing the newest handsets to have the features, i just want them when they come out lol. Plus i really like how smooth the android experience is with how google sets up their phones. Are they really heavy by chance?
And I also don't think nexus 5 will support sd card, instead more storage size will be available along with cloud

Heavy?????? I wouldn't say so at 139 grams.
It is hard to me to get any other android phone these days. I used to work at sprint and hated that they weren't going to have nexus 4, galaxy nexus was just too old at the time and with no voice and data...
I have used gs3 and one x plenty, neither work as well as stock android. Touch wiz is buggy and takes away core features while adding new ones that don't work too well, aside from being very laggy compared to stock.
Sense is not bad, but multitasking on it is horrific, even if you root it.
Both aren't great with software updates, HTC ones never come and Samsung ones end up buggy in most cases.
Motorola ui thus far is too inferior to even consider. Point is, no thing really compared to stock in my opinion. You may see much better benchmarks on gs4 but I doubt day to day it'd prove as stable and smooth as n4.
So, to me... Yes, worth the money, specially considering you'd get one for less than $400 with no contract! My only major issue with n4 is the antenna, it is subpar compared to other devices, same was for gn.

a year old lol its not even 5 month old yet came out the back end of November 2012
What I suggest is find a decently spec phone from sprint and put AOSP on the device and tweak the hell out of it.

Yeah, i just bought one. I hear the camera is pretty bad, but i never take pictures. I'm sure if i need to it will work for me. Everything else I've heard is positive. Can't wait to get it. I'm going to be going from LTE to HSPA again though, that should still be plenty fast for me.
lol @ almost a year old. April 13th will be 5 months. And yes i would suggest it if you like stock android. If your more into skins and bloat, go for the HTC one or the S4 at nearly double the price.
Yeah, that's my fault. I thought they came out last summer, didn't know they were that new yet. I'm just tired of all the manufacturers screwing with the phones, and the constant problems. Plus the fact that you never see updates, ever. I have a OneX now, and im so tired of how sluggish and slow it is. Plus i have constant problems with it anymore.
Just hoping this is a good move. I can't wait to get it and start using it.

updates are immediately, you will never regret a Nexus phone
I've asked myself the same questions as yourself before buying myself the nexus 4.
First, looking at timeline of nexus device releases, I've noticed it releases one at every year. So i assume the next nexus phone will only be here by November-December 2013 even if it will be announced at the May Google I/O.
Galaxy S4 is indeed a great device specwise (even better if you can get the 8 core version). But for me, it's still not a Nexus device, the build quality must be inferior to the current Nexus 4 (based on S3), looks exactly like the S3 which is EXTREMELY popular device (not unique), and the Nexus 4 is much more affordable priced.
HTC One, the only thing that will attract me over the nexus 4 is the full aluminum body. Not a Sense fan. That's it.
So with all those, i ended up with the Nexus 4 and I don't regret it.
Its not even halfway to a year old. Its not outdated hardware. S4 Pro is still one of Qualcomms fastest chips. and the Snapdragon 600 uses the same gpu "Adreno 320"
Almost a year? N4 might be too complicated for you.
And yeah google will release another nexus phone...probably 7months from. The N4 is still the best android phone out and it is the best out of the box android device I've used in 4yrs of android by far.
Its blazing fast despite using an older soc. Faster as there's hardly any overlay on it. Next phone will probably be the X phone which will rumoured boasts the S800 which will be fast but the N4 is no slouch.

[POLL] How long keeping your Nexus S

How long do you plan on keeping your Nexus S?
Forever... or until something that sounds as good audio wise comes along.
Sent from my Nexus S using xda app-developers app
Well I have an HTC one coming tomorrow. But I'll keep it around in case of emergencies. My upgrade came at a good time as the nexus while working is feeling worn. Battery life just isn't what it use to, overall it between a gook's two years of service.
something clever goes here...
Im upgrading in july but i'll keep my ns just in case!
Nexus S is my first android and it still work so FINE!
It's speed is still impressive!
And it is getting better and better now!
1 year of service, but if development continues to provide with new ROMs, it will stay on service for a lot of time, for now with Gamerzrom 3.0 and very fast.
I'll keep my Nexus S until the next 4-inches nexus device. But I think my NS will die before that time.
i love this phone expesially now that its rooted
Also my first Android phone that satisfied me. But a use of 2 years is enough, nevertheless it will stay at the family... until it dies.
I'll keep it until it dies, for sure. I see no reasons for switching to a more recent phone. Mine is 18 months old and very snappy and usable.
Well I inially thought of a exchange with S1, then I quicklly changed my mind (with the help of some Nexus S hard fans on this forum ) and now I'll probaply keep it untill it dies, now my reall problem is that all the phones I previously use just keept me on Android, but since my Nexus I've gotten addicted to Nexus as a phone, If you get me to choosa between a GNexus or S3, HTC One, S4 I'd choose the older GNexus, is this weerd?
i love mine - its my first smartphone!!
I'm probably going to leave for the sunny shores of the Nexus 4 in a couple months. I held one for 15 minutes and now my poor old s just feels... crap I've had the nexus s for 10ish months, which i got for free off my friend. Not bad value

I plan to replace it with a nexus 4 this summer. It's been in service since autumn 2011 and I'm running out of warranty. It's a great phone and I'm going to keep it around as long as I can. Maybe try out some roms on it.

Wish mine was snappy and as usuable, it's about the same age as yours but I've had problems since my first update to ICS and after I rooted and flashed roms/kernels it's just never been the same. I have the HTC one coming in a few days so I'm pretty stoked, I'll keep my nexus s to be my Ipod touch alternative.
Bought mine on launch day. Still going strong, original battery too. Though the lack of RAM is the only thing I'm having trouble with. I'll probably break down and get the upcoming Nexus.
Might be switching this summer
I just bought mine a week ago and I loved it.
I chose to stick with gingerbread CM rom combines with CM kernel (patched with force AC charge and bigmem).
The experiences is great even in gaming because I only play mini game.
I maybe switch to other phone next year but I'll keep it as backup phone for sure.

Want to buy Nexus 4. Still a good device?

Hey guys,
I am thinking about getting a Nexus 4 to replace my HTC Sensation. The Sensation has many problems such as huge battery drain and it gets extremely hot during usage. So I thought the Nexus 4 would be a great idea. Pure Android (huge fan of that, was using CM for a long time on my Senny) and Google Support sound good and the price seems to be okay to (I could buy a 16GB variant for about 310€).
Is this phone great? Is it still worth buying considering it's already nearly a year old? Does it have some know problems such as huge battery drain or display problems?
I need this phone for browsing, using the calendar, writing emails/sms and sometimes taking photos. I don't play any games on it except 4 pictures 1 word.
Thanks in advance!
I too came from a Sensation, and it's a fine upgrade, for all the reasons you mention. Perhaps not as durable as HTC's build quality, so be sure to include a decent cover (I use the Diztronic TPU and it looks factory) to protect that beautiful glass. It's a joy to use..you can't go wrong. Cheers!

Honestly, if that is all you use your phone for, you should get the Lumia 1020. But if you want to stay with Android and can wait 4 more months, the 5th Nexus will be out then and should the price be as low as the Nexus4, then it would be better to get that.

The Lumia 1020 would be out of the price range. I'd never pay 400€+ for a phone I only use for work. I probably can't wait till the next release because the Senny really bugs me. I can't use a phone which burns in my hand because it's getting extremely hot while chewing through battery like nothing. My Sensation barely gets through the day with moderate use.
€: And I don't like WP because I'm a huge fan of costumization.

I can't sincerely tell someone to purchase a 7 month old device when knowing a faster device will come for the same price in due time.
Well you can go on buying Nexus 4, everything is a beauty when you compare prices and then it is a google phone so it always have it perks.
If you think you should wait for nexus 5 then its not very much pretty soon bcz this time google launched s4 and htc one as google variant which means next nexus will take time.
Your tasks which u need to perform as you have mentioned would all be performed very well.
Tip I can give even for better battery.
Unlock the bootloader, use custom recovery such as CWM and flash CM 10.1 stable releases which ever is latest.
Find franco kernel and flash that and for better colours use its colour profile.
You will have an outstanding experiance with great display and great battery time.
Best of luck.
NOTE. All decision is urs what ever suits you best.

People will and should buy the device that suits their needs and the price they are willing to pay.
If you want a unlocked / contract free phone the device is a good choice
The entire motion that a new device will be out in a couple months is pointless. He wants a phone now. A couple months is just that. A couple months living with a phone he doesn't want. Then when the next nexus device comes out there will be the next best thing on the horizon.
He a is a basic user that doesn't participate in the stupid I need the lastest and greatest hw spec race.
Sitting around waiting for 4 plus months for a device is just stupid.
Why buy a HTC one now? The plus version is coming? Why by a s4 now? The advanced or whatever version with the 800 is coming in a couple of months.

To each their own, I cannot speak for the needs of TC nor their personal interests. Whether he's comfortable with waiting X months is currently unknown and has not been divulged in this topic, so we can agree to disagree.
He said he probably can't wait for the next release because his phone bugs him.
Even a device like the HTC first would suit him fine hardware and software wise. Not unlocked and cheap of course ( don't even think it launched outside the US or unlocked) but just talking the device itself
There are plenty of users who are not concerned with the I can read the spec sheet pissing matches. Wait for the latest and greatest chip so they can have a higher score in benchmarks etc.
Its definitely still worth buying full price. Its a great device especially if you're a fan of stock android like you said.
Happy phoning.
I really don't need high specs. Benchmarks never intersted me because at the end you probably won't feel any difference between for example the snapdragon 600 and the snapdragon 800 in everyday use. I just want the phone to work well without stuttering and without any hick ups.

If you need a phone now, just go for it. If you are not in a hurry, you can wait and see what comes up. IMO I usually don't want the first batch of the phone anyway since they are usually the ones with problems.
just buy it
I highly recommend nexus 4.. Believe me it's as smooth as HTC one out even better..
Root and flash cyanogenmod and Franco kernel... That made me a delighted user from a happy user...
Besides it'll have developer support for hell lot of a time to come... Even after people forget about HTC one and s4..

[Q] About to get the Nexus 4.

I can't believe I have been around XDA forum for about a year or so and I consider myself kind of experienced.... (I don't know why I never dared to create an account)
Anyways here's the big deal:
I'm planning on upgrading to a new phone... If I tell you the phone I've had for the last 2 years you will laugh HARD.
(Nokia 100)
Anyways, since Nexus 4 Came out, it has been my dream phone and the one I want to buy for a long time... but here we are, almost a year since it's release and I believe the specs it has would make this phone last for a couple of years more.
My concern is the following.... seing that Nexus 7 (2013) Has been released with these awesome specs and just $30 increase over the Nexus 7 (2012)
Should I wait for the Nexus 4 Upgrade considering they might have one on the works? thus it hasn't been confirmed.

In any case we are almost sure that the new nexus device wont be that expensive, maybe 30 more dollars or 20 than its predecessor so its not a big big deal if you get this one and later you want the new one, if i was you i would get it
I want to hear other opinions too...
buy it.. when they release nexus 5 sell ur nexus for put some $ on it and buy nexus 5 u can enjoy all like this
I have it now since early march and I love this phone. Its so much better than the Galaxy ace I had before lol.
But yeah, I think we will see the new Nexus in october, so I should wait
But maybe thats just me because my parents wont allow me to buy a new phone so quick after the other. (16 years old)
But of you can get the new nexus for just a couple of dollars more I would get the Nexus 4 and sell it when the new one comes out. Or you can use it as a backup phone.

Nexus 6P vs Pixel XL

Hey guys, how you all doing?
Just wanted to know your opinion. Currently I am a phoneless guy since my Nexus 5 died a few days ago and since I gave up on the ZTE Axon 7 due to the lack of support from ZTE to the mod community. I am really, really, really eager to finally see what Google is up with the new Pixel phones. Some rumors say that it will be a tough phone to root and mod due to the two partitions for seamless updates and the startup check, etc, etc. That is worrying me a bit. But, since I am a bit desperate to get a new phone, the wait is just cruel, unbearable, excruciating! Yesterday I came across the Nexus 6P, the 128GB version to be more specific, at Amazon. Taking the Nexus 5 as reference, I know that I can rely on the support from the mod community to always have new and updated stuff, since we are talking of a phone that was launched just one year ago. SO, what would you do? Buy a consolidated phone that is the Nexus 6P with tons and tons of mods available, or wait for the Pixel XL?
Sorry for the long text!
Regards!
i would wait for the pixel xl especially now as the release draws closer. the nexus 6p is no doubt the best nexus ever made IMO but the pixel may very well be better. about modding, android has went through many changes that appeared as the death of the developer community but the ever so skillful and dedicated devs here at XDA always seem to find a loophole. it may take time, but eventually, root will be achieved!

Huh?
Root on a Pixel or Nexus device?
Unlock the bootloader and flash?
That is the one advantage that has always existed on Google/Nexus devices.
If the bootloader is unlockable, then root is pedestrian at best.
Here is mY 2 cents. I literally know nothing about the new pixel phone as I have no interest in getting it. The only thing I do know that I could suggest is number one HTC is a dying company and I believe that's who makes the phone. It seems to be a love-hate relationship depending on who you talk to but in my opinion they make some of the worst phones available. Number 2 the pixel phone is going to be close to $700 where as the 6p is now selling for under three hundred depending on where you go which is a gigantic difference in price. Again I don't know the specs the ins and the outs of the new pixel phone however a $400 price difference and the name HTC would lead me to say go with the 6p. Remember how well the last HTC Nexus device when? Probably not cuz it was basically a pos that nobody gave a damn about

Well I know I'm loving 6p big time after finally being able to get one a couple of weeks ago. It's the gold 64gb one and wow, what a phone that will be hard to beat. I'm working twelves and the phone makes it through the whole shift with ghostpepper profile applied. Anyway like previous post what a deal and for the price of pixel, what a steal. Good luck and thank you.

Huh?
Root on a Pixel or Nexus device?
Unlock the bootloader and flash?
That is the one advantage that has always existed on Google/Nexus devices.
If the bootloader is unlockable, then root is pedestrian at best.

It's not harder just a new layout. Chain fire will have it working in no time. Don't sweat it.

i know man seems like google is bringing the nexus out of the dev phone spectrum and is targeting it towards the average consumer now with all of this new pixel branding and stuff i don't understand why though as it took them a long time to make the nexus brand popular and now they are ditching it when it's better than it ever was. :/

1.8 rating dude...
I just got a €390 128GB Nexus 6P, new. On ebay from a guy who bought it and had a problem. While he waited for the substitution from Google he bought a different phone and wanted to cash back as soon as possible. I was suspicious but the phone arrived in the box, completely sealed and everything was legit. Sometimes you get lucky (and considering I needed it to substitute my Note 3 who got destroyed in a fall, Spigen case and tempered glass protector notwithstanding... I sort of deserved it).
Pixel XL doesn't convince me. Smaller screen first of all. With screens it's relatively easy to go bigger... but going smaller? Not for me.

Yes, some times you get lucky. I didn't! I started asking questions and out of the blue I received an email from Amazon telling me that the guy canceled the the sell because he didn't have the phone . So I promptly bought a 64GB that is fullfiled by amazon, of course.
Got mine less than a month ago. 390 Euros .. the 64Gb version all bran new.
I don't think it's worth paying 700$ for the Pixel XL for the 32Gb version. Didn't see anything worth wasting money on. No major hardware changes that will make that a good deal.
