JIO 4g VoLTE not working on Note 4 (T-mobile, officialy unlocked) - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hope someone can help me with this issue!
I have got an officially unlocked T-mobile Galaxy Note 4 device connected to Reliance Jio 4g network in India. This device supports Band 3, 5 of the Reliance 4g LTE services (Band 3, 5 and 40). Just to let you know, I can manually chose either of the bands (3 or 5) using *#2263#. I can't use *#*#4363#*#* on my phone.
I can use data LTE services on my mobile without any problem.
Under the Call Settings, I have the option to enable "Voice over LTE". (done that) however, I can't get VoLTE calls to work on my phone through native dailer as VoLTE icon doesn't appear on my phone.
I can make calls only if I use Jio4gVoice app but the call quality is poor with the app.
If I use my Jio sim in my Moto G4 plus device, VoLTE icon appears on the phone and I can make calls without any issues.
Before coming here, I have talked to
1. Samsung India - they directed me to Samsung USA or T-mobile
2. Samsung + through the Video chat with Samsung plus representative in the US. They directed me to T-mobile.
3. T-mobile - said device belongs to me and can be used anywhere in the world without any problems. Asked me to talk to Reliance JIO.
4 JIO - they say the phone should support VoLTE and LTE services. They have been taking my requests to resolve the issue and closing them every other day but without any joy. I have told them that under About Device > Status IMS registration status shows Not registered.
So what needs to be done in this scenario? Do I need to replace Tmobile CSC (TMB) with an Indian CSC? Is that even possible? Seek your help and hopefully it can help others. Thanks in advance!

I just followed the following menu:
Settings > Call > Call Settings > Voice over LTE Preferred (turned it on)
I have been seeing this option on my device ever since 5.1.1. Have you updated your device to latest 6.0.1?
Have you been able to get any satisfactory answers about VoLTE on Jio?
Thanks

is this the N910S?

Did you create an IMS APN for Jio? Assuming you're already getting 4G data, head to Settings > More Networks > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names. Click + on the top to add APN and enter the exact following stuff (case sensitive):
Name - ims
APN - ims
APN Type - ims
Save and exit. In all probability, you'll not see the new APN in the list of APNs, but VoLTE symbol should come up. Hope it does, otherwise tough luck.

I have tried to create APN as you have mentioned it but can't get to save the new APN.
I have noticed one more thing in STATUS i.e., IMS not registered - is that the culprit?
When I put the same JIO sim in another phone (Note 4- N910G - Indian version) it shows IMS registered and both LTE data and VoLTE work flawlessly.
Wondering if IMEI and the t-mobile are the culprits?
Thanks

It could also be the CSC. You may have to root the device, and flash INS or INU CSC (I'm using INS on the 910G) ace see if that fixes anything...

Can you check in the T-Mobile forum? I'm not sure about the differences between a branded and an unlocked device firmware-wise, don't want you risk a reflash.

The problem is that each CSC and firmware version has a different list of 4G activated providers that are not directly related to the region they are in.
Which means that a device can have 4G activated for 50 providers, just not the one your SIM belongs to. As such, if you insert the SIM, the 4G toggle is disabled.
Each provider has to individually pass on the fact that they have 4G to Samsung. Even then it's not activated for each CSC.
For instance, DBT (Germany) may have 4G enabled for all of Germany, as well as T-Mobile NL, Orange FR and a handful of UK networks. At the same time and on the same firmware version, 4G in the PHN rom (Netherlands) may not support any 4G network in Germany.
I've even had it happen where my Note 3 runs on DBT, and I had 4G on T-Mobile NL... Whilst none of the TNL (Branded) firmware had 4G enabled for their own network yet. (They didn't find it nearly as funny as I did when I brought that up at HQ...)
You either need to find a firmware which supports 4G for your provider, swap providers or you need to root.
If you're rooted: use a root-enabled file manager > open /data/property/persist.radio.lteon file in an editor > set it to true > save, exit and reboot.

If you are rooted, download and install Xposed framework. Then download and install Intelli3g (from the Xposed downloads or Play Store). Activate the module and reboot. Then enter the app and activate fast mode toggle. Then select in the fast mode menu "LTE only". That's it.

Three VoLTE & Unlocked S7 Edge

As per thread title.
Unrooted, stock Galaxy S7 Edge with latest available firmware.
Under Settings -> Mobile Networks I have a VoLTE Call switch which is on, and network mode set to Auto (LTE/3G/2G).
Weirdly, when I'm at home which is definitely within a Three 4G coverage area (with, allegedly, support for VoLTE or "4G Super Voice" as they're calling it), if I reboot
the phone, a VoLTE icon appears for a short while in the notification bar and then disappears.
Three's webpage talks about S7 Edge users needing to get an update, but their instructions just direct people to do the standard android check for updates, of which
there don't seem to be any newer ones. So clearly, the phone IS working with their VoLTE support but other than the Icon's brief appearance, there's no way to tell
if it's actually working.
Oddly, friends of mine with S7 Edge's bought around the same time and on EXACTLY the same firmware (build, kernel etc.) don't have that VoLTE option at all.
Any thoughts?

You need to add an IMS APN
Hi
As for VoLTE to work, you need to add an IMS APN, usually as follows:
Name: IMS
APN: ims
Authentication type: None (sometime PAP)
APN type: ims
BR,
xe
Thanks, I gave it a try that but it didn't save, even though I pressed the save button. The new APN I tried adding didn't appear after a reboot either.
Also, the "Three" APN that is currently there isn't editable either unfortunately.
Is there a way to get VOLTE working on AT&T in the US?

Would love to know how.. teach me please sensei
My phone was bought sim Free/unlocked from Carphone.. all I did was stick a Three sim in it...
I have an unlocked S7 edge "BTU" firmware and volte does show on mine when i'm in the office. Not that its any good, no one can hear me when i talk to them, i hear them fine. Your friend may be on the xeu firmware which AFAIK doesn't have volte option (Dont quote me on this!!). I think the signal on this phone is shocking actually, my Z5 premium had much better signal. I'll persevere with the S7 edge though.
Search and download odin.
Go to sam firmware and search for G935f (that's your phones model number.) you'll then get a list of firmwares, scroll to United kingdom and click on the btu firmware. (i tried threes H3G firmware and volte didn't work.) Download and extract the firmware. Downloads are sometimes really slow on there so be patient or search for a faster download. The latest UK firmware is: G935FXXU1APD3
Power down your phone, once off hold volume down, home and power button to get to download mode. When download mode shows, press volume up to agree.
Open odin once the samsung drivers have installed for download mode.
Click BL in odin then select the BL file from your extracted firmware
then Click AP then select the AP file from your extracted firmware
then CP then select the CP file from your extracted firmware
then CSC then select the CSC file from your extracted firmware (NOTE: there's 2 csc files don't select the Home_CSC file)
Odin should say your phone is connected.
THE NEXT STEP WILL WIPE YOUR PHONE!! PLEASE MAKE SURE HAVE BACKED IT UP AND WERE NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOUR PHONE BRICKS.
Press Start on ODIN and wait about 10 minutes, you should see a progress bar and then "PASS" once done. Your phone will probably reboot once done.
Good Luck from a fellow 3 user

I'm also on Three and have the S7 Edge and I dont have this option. It could just be embedded in the firmware file.
It was a sim free phoneb that I got from car phone.. what's weird is that four friends also got new skin free phones from Samsung directly, all of the firmware and kernel numbers match but they don't have it. Also, even with the option on mine, VoLTE doesn't really work.
So still no clear idea from anyone about VoLTE support. However I noticed that VoLTE icon appear in the notification bar whenever I'm in an area with no mobile coverage. I can't make a
call mind you, but yeah.. has anyone else who hasn't had VoLTE working on a Sim free S7 Edge, but has the option turned on, seen this? My wife's S7 Edge is also exhibiting the same behaviour.

Hi
You can try to pull out the customer.xml file under the /system/csc folder and edit the APN profile (to add IMS), then write back to the phone. It will work well, but need SU access to do this.
Regards,
xe
Looks like they've removed this switch in the latest (September) update. The VoLTE icon used to appear briefly in the notification area on first boot but no sign of it now. No real reliable way to test as network coverage is weird where I live so I can only guess at what Samsung have done.
According to someone on the Digital Spy forums, they tested after the update and still had VoLTE functionality even without the switch toggle - so I guess Samsung
have just baked it in now.
I have S7 edge unlocked from Samsung. I was on Tescomobile (O2) and I've just ported to Three. I don't have the Volte option but I do get the Volte logo on the top of the screen from tine to time. At the weekend I was in a no signal area but I had the Volte logo so I tried a couple of calls. On some calls they couldn't hear me though I could hear them. On others it got almost acceptable two way calling. I'm guessing it is working.. just.

I am on Three Austria (No VoLTE support on this network anyway). Just wondering if (since I recently flashed the unbranded UK BTU -full conversion to BTU to get Nougat and BUT OTA's) will VoLTE work on BTU even if there is no button in any settings ? Not in dialer or network settings.
I guess my question is if Three Austria implements VoLTE will I get it on BTU or will I have to flash back to DRE (3 Hutchison Austria) back again?
Some people have said starting from Nougat providers can push the settings to the phone and no custom firmware is needed, no verification of this info though.
The only provider in my country that supports VoLTE (A1) claims NO you need their firmware.
Maybe I can source an A1 sim and test this.

[India] Any Axon7 users from India?

Hi guys,
So if any axon7 users are in India, I have a question regarding Volte calling.
Does Volte calling work in India on the stock ROM, specifically does it work with jio?
I had the Chinese version B07 and Volte calling did not work. Flashed lineage OS and Volte started working.
Now that nougat is out and working properly, I want to go back to stock but only if Volte works.

Looks like you need to update the APN settings. Try contacting customer care and have them send it to you.
I'm on the same boat, gonna try upgrading to 7.1.1 and see what happens
Tried with RR, volte works, went to stock 7.1.1, volte doesn't work. So it is a software thing, maybe a dev can help fix it?

From my research volte is a software upgrade. Technically any phone which supports 4g can support 4g after manufacturer updates. Volte also depends on the Telecom provider, the Telecom provider has to enable volte on that particular device for it support volte calling.
For most users this is not an issue, because even if Volte is not enabled they can seamlessly switch between 3g and 4g.
The problem with jio is that it is a 4g only network so there is no switch, if your device is not supported then you have to use their ****ty app, jiojoin or something like that.
So unless jio endless volte on the axon7 we are stuck with using jio join or on a stock based ROM.
Then again I may be wrong about the whole thing
I found another possible solution

Try the solution posted in the earlier post. I was unable to make it work but maybe you will have better luck with the us model.
Magic has happened...
I have tried the procedure mentioned in the above URL, but nothing was working. I was unable to add the APN settings as well as unable to enter in to the engineering mode. I have resetted existing APN settings and added the previous jionet APN settings.
Finally lost hope and made my self to use the Jio with Jio 4G Voice application.
But the Magic has happened here and my Axon 7 fulfilled all requirements this time even with VoLTE .
Yes VoLTE started working . Deleted Jio 4G Voice.
Don't know how but try with re inserting SIM cards and resetting the APN Settings.

Yes i am able to make VOLTE calls on my US axon 7 without internet or jio 4g app.. but my dads same phone doesnt work.. very strange phenomenon bro... im not able to make it out. i tried axon 7 toolkit and tried to unlock bootloader and followed instructions.. then before flashing it went black screen like it was supposed to go.. then i had some work and unplugged immediately on the black screen and rebooted to normal..
All of a sudden jio4g calling app said on the top.. " Your phone supports VOLTE please use standard dailer" holy cow i uninstalled jio 4g app and was able to make calls ever since.. all the best..
I have a2017g model, and i am on android 7.0 nougat. Play store issue is there. I have downloaded 7.1.1 official update manually but does not seem to get install on my device, also the tried fota update which is 456mb, that also doest not get installed, saying update failed, phone not supported ??
Axon 7 can be used on Jio VoLTE now.
with simple procedures.
anyone need help let me know..
Ill write small tut once i have free time.

Put only Jio sim in slot 1.
Delete all APN.
go to dialer
press *#*#4636#*#* > go to phone information > Select LTE ONLY> scroll down and turn ON Wifi Calling and Video Calling. exit by pressing home button..
GO to APN and see is JIONET APN is there if not.. make new APN .. Name JIONET. Type JIONET
exit..
Reboot. and see if calling works..

I tried the same steps but in a different order earlier, but it didn't work for me then. I'm back on 6.0 now. Would any other member here be kind enough to try this and let me know if it works for you? Thanks

How can i buy a code.... How much it cost
Just Google SIM unlock galaxy s8 there's tons of sites out there. Prices vary from one site to the next. Once you've got your code enter this in dialer app #7465625*638*# you'll get this screen. Doing it this way you won't need another SIM card to unlock your phone just input your code and hit okay

Hiya did this on my S8 yesterday and works -
1. Download Shortcut Master from app store (Light version works, but it's a great app, support the dev if you can)
2. Open the app and go to the menu (three dot's top right) and select app explorer
3. Scroll down to IMS Settings and select it.
4. Scroll down to ImsSettingsLauncherActivity (last item on my list) select it and hit launch.
5. Select IMS Service Switch and under that turn on everything on that screen. (For me most things (especially RCS items) were disabled by default, but when I looked at a friends S8+ settings they were all on so I tried that and all works now.)
6. Make video calls!

Unfortunately, i have Bad news of this VoLTE enable instruction.
From latest G955F Oreo (Android 8.0) update, (G950FXXU1CRAP)
Samsung blocked ImsSetting activity like below screenshot. It need to additional system or Super user permission.
I don't understand why Samsung block this activity. Its very useful UI activity for us.
We should find another method for enable Volte related function.

Airtel Volte [How to Enable It]

Hey guys, I have finally arrived at a proper result after a long time.
Airtel supports Volte in all areas except J&k. , as mentioned on their website: https://www.airtel.in/volte/
Note: First u need to have an Airtel 4g sim along with a 4g/3g data plan.
So the steps to activate Volte is simple :
1. Go to the airtel Volte website given above.
2. Check for compatible devices
Note: You will be needing any one of the compatible devices listed by Airtel on their page.
3. Now you have to put your sim in the device [ compatible one ] and they reset the network settings of the device.
4. Now restart the phone and wait for some time.
5. After doing so you would get a link from Airtel.
Note: Something similar to this - Please open the following link to get manual instructions for service settings.
http://10.89.22.101:9080/SADM/Manualgrp=Auto+Device+Detection&rcId=4&msisdn=%2B91<airtelmobilenumber>&dev=Xiaomi+RedmiNote5Pro
6. After clicking on the link, you have to restart the device.
7. Airtel Volte will be enabled, now you can put it back in your Zuk Z2 and Volte is enabled.
And for those who want to know what rom I am running on,
Rom: Jaguar version January 10
Gapps: Mind the gapps
magisk: Installed
Hit the thanks button if I helped you.:good:
It's working guys.
I used galaxy j7 which is supported device. I waited for 15 mins and tried rebooting even i didn't get volte or sms mentioned above, Then I called customer care and asked about volte ,then they told your device is volte supported and keep using your device to get volte after 2 mins i got volte in j7 then i switched to z2 plus , volte is working now in z2

ok to solve your issue, all you gotta do is follow this website: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3695877 get the latest version of Indian stock rom guess (zui 2.5) and install that using qfil.
now set it up and enable volte on the device. Then follow the steps given above. Happy Flashing :good:
No matter what I try, wait for similar message as given in #1 or call customer care for volte settings they are just providing me with Instructions on how to enable VoLTE in settings.
I'm not able to get beyond that point i.e., not able to receive the link to enable VoLTE on my sim card.
I didn't got any link but kept my sim in poco f1 for 4hrs it's worked for me....
Now i can able to use volte in Z2 Plus....
