Grey bars on the display after a couple months - Wide spread issue or just random? - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

Dear XDA,
I heard that the s7 and the s7e sometimes have gray bars on the display after months of use. Are these troll posts or is this a well documented issue?

They're definitely not troll posts. No widespread issue either. There are only a dozen isolated cases I came across on various internet platforms.

grey horizontal lines!
they are over 100 units of s7 edge with that problem!

I had it... took it back and they swapped it no problem. Not widespread, but it's a known issue.

Major disaster on s7 edge Exynos SM-G935F after 3 months. Vertical colour lines running the right side of screen. Phone heats up to 41c. Battery drains to 80% in half an hour then screen starts flashing.
No warranty in u.s.a. A real goatf**k. Will never buy another Sammy product again. Have many cheap phones that never die.
Took the phone completely apart and back together without resolve. Anyone interested in seeing pics of the operation? Lol

Yes! Please!

How it is not wide-spread if it is a known issue!!!!!!!!!???????
Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk

Strongly recommend not doing this. Make no mistake you will shatter the back glass. Even with heat and careful removal. Only when you have nothing to loose in this case. Lol

I took my s7 edge apart and put it back together. It work just fine. The one thing u must have patients.
Sent from my SM-G935F using XDA-Developers mobile app

True! In this case it's best to destroy it.
Removed and reconnected the little display cable
to no avail. Still not sure if it's a bad display or what. Even Sammy doesn't know what is causing the note 7 disaster.
Still using it however as a hand warmer. Just in time for winter.

well with those lines in it u would have to buy screen for it and they are not cheap.
Sent from my SM-G935F using XDA-Developers mobile app

I figured that it would be the screen but checked the display cable just in case. Well back to the reliable moto g that took the blurry pictures. SAD day. Lol still better than iPhone. Haha.
BTW, when the screen is off the phone runs cool even when running apps. Must be a short in the screen heating it up.

Found a complete solution here.
Works like a charm.

Permanent smudge on screen

I recently noticed a rather large smudge at the bottom of my screen
http://i.imgur.com/9lbMd.jpg
It does not go away no matter how much I wipe the screen.
Not sure if I caused this or if it came like that.
It is only noticeable when I use the device outside or shine light on it.
Does anyone else have anything like this?
I believe thats the oleophobic coating coming off. Have seen it a few times on here. Did you buy it from the play store or a retailer. Regardless they should let you swap it out for this issue. Use a screen protector on the new one.
It's the coating, it looks bad though. What have you been using to clean the screen? Cleaners with ammonia aren't good for the screen and if you're constantly using a sleeve it can wear through it as well.
Thanks, guys

those lines you see without the spots are just were the finger passed and cause some light refraction that doesn't enable to see spots in there but THEY ARE THERE ALSO! After you clean the tablet they are there also..
And when you clean your tablet you don't see no spots at all, only with a strong light pointed at it.. But the thing is.. the tablet can be like this from the factory/shop and you won't notice when you open the box.. just a few days later.. Be carefull with that..
---------- Post added at 06:04 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:47 PM ----------
As you can see, when the tablet is clean...
theres was no chance to see the spots when unboxing.
I'm having the same problem. The spot will not go away with any amount cleaning but it's not annoying enough to replace.

If it is the protective coating coming off then aggressive cleaning would only make it worse over time. I would suggest getting a screen protector to try and prevent it from getting worse, it's a good idea to use one anyway.

Build quality

My note has a loose speaker grill on the right. I was wondering if anyone else has this issue or others.
The only questionable thing I have, which may be normal, is the infrared port. It protrudes about a millimeter or so from the top edge. Is this normal?

It shouldn't, but this is Samsung we're talking about. A number of users already confirmed that they're having the same issue on multiple threads. I'm guessing this is happening because of the S Pen slot. It shouldn't be doing that, but we're used to Samsung doing this.
Yes. Fixed it right up with some silicone sealant.

Good news Bad news
The Bad news is I am not the only one that has a tablet with this issue. The Good news is there are PERKS to be gained if you have you to exchange. If you know what I mean
Samsung, like any manufacturer has issues, I think you will find the QC at Samsung is among the best. I wonder too, is the first thing some people do when getting something is look for defects? I mean, yeah, if they pop up while using it, then you go from there, but I like to actually use and enjoy my device first
As for the issue, my right speaker grille does have a VERY TINY bit of play if you tap it, it's not noticeable in normal use and will NOT affect anything important. A user fixed it easily, so if it is bothersome, you can always do what he did.

I dont have patience for QC issues, if I spend my hard earned money I want it close to perfect or its going back. There is no way I would ever fix their mistakes.

You will never find perfection, not in anything made my the hands of man anyway. There is not one company out there that puts out 100% perfect products, not one.
It's the price of being an early adopter Computer manufacturers make all kinds of revisions, heck the early LCDs had ghosting. These days though almost everything feels like beta.

Galaxy S7 Edge - Touchscreen overly sensitive ~ reacts without touching screen!

Hello folks,
February 29, 2016 I received my T-Mobile S7 Edge, and it was bliss, but I always though the touch was very odd. I couldn't put my finger on it. Then today while scrolling through the web, I noticed I kept touching things I didn't mean to. I though, it's just the edge screen and I need a case to help mitigate this. Put the phone down on my wooden table and continued to scroll and it kept happening.
After downloading a touchscreen tester app, I noticed that I can make the phone react without actually touching the screen. Like 0.5 mm to 1 mm away from the screen. It's especially noticeable when I'm scrolling and slowly lift my finger, it continues to scroll.
Do I have a defective unit? Or is this something I need to adjust?
I've already tried the TSP Update and it succeeded, but nothing changed. It's still reacts the same.
Appreciate any assistance on this.

Yea that's a weird issue. Ik on past phones there was like a glove mode to increase the sensitivity. I'm not sure if s7 has it but if it does maybe it's worth looking into if it got toggled somehow

Unfortunately I don't think that's the case here.
I am wondering if it's the same issues that happened with the S6!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s6/help/touchscreen-s6-sensitive-t3073953
Perhaps it affects certain people's biology. I'm just pulling anything out of my hat of logic lol. I'll play with some in stores tomorrow and see if it's something that follows me around or if it's just the phone's technology.
I appreciate your insight.
Have you tried a factory reset? Always the last thing to try. You never know.
Sometimes i'm filling same thing. But most of the time it seems that I just touching egde screens without noticing it .

You think you've got issues
I wonder if it's because you are touching the sides. The edges seem a bit more sensitive on the S7 than the S6, and I notice that because of the curved back, you are touching/holding the edges more than you did on the old phone. I have to use it more to confirm if this is an issue, but I did notice it while playing with it for a few hours last night setting everything up.

Right! I experience it even when not holding it. I can make it happen without holding the phone and it's consistently doing it. It's overly sensitive for sure. I'm thinking about making a quick video of it but it may be difficult to see and it may be challenging to do and record at the same time.

I mean I could but I don't think that's a thing since Galaxy S6.
But if you know of where they are I would like to turn them off lol. I have slowly became accustomed to it, but it still annoys.
I plan on visiting T-Mobile and Best Buy tomorrow to see if the demo units experience this.
Sent from my SM-G935T using Tapatalk
Is anyone else experiencing touch screen oddities? or is it just few vs the many?
So I went to Best Buy and wasn't able to get the demo units to do the same thing my phone is doing. I showed the Samsung guy (which I'm pretty sure is on Best Buy's payroll) and he was surprised by it as well. He said his S7 wasn't doing it, but he thought maybe it was an Edge issue.
Long story short, I called T-Mobile and they're shipping me a new one.
Here's hoping the next one doesn't have this issue.
Don't have mine yet, but might be worth posting your specifications up. They post phone, color, where it was made, screen manufacturer, chip-set, etc.
In the past when there were issues like this, it helped to narrow down if it was a particular hardware combination. Also, a video would certainly help. Just my 2 cents.

Ive owned it since it came out. But the audio in both the ear piece and speaker have decided to stop working a of yesterday
Had it nearly 3 years now with heavy usage. No burn in no dead pixels. Still works great!
Owned mine since the day it came out here. Status bar is burned in a bit. When I rotate the screen I see a color difference where the bar usually is,especially on whit backgrounds. I've had this for a year probably. No dead pixels though and the burn in really isn't that bad. I don't notice it when watching YouTube for example.

No burn in here, zero screen problems (apart from sometimes having a green decontrasted tint to the screen after unlocking, fixed by turning the screen off and on again)

Note 20 Ultra: Dust / Fogging issues in camera lens in some review units

Looks like some people with review units are reporting that their Note 20 Ultra cameras are fogging up, there is moisture in the lens that was not there out of the box. Also some are saying there are dust particles in the camera lens. Hopefully these are isolated issues in review units.
Samsung's response in the attached thumbnail is not very encouraging though.

You must be in a seriously remote part of Canada.
-50 with bare hands/thin gloves for pics must mean a lot of frost bite for you. Tell your company to get you a point and shoot camera rather than risking your $1800+ phone. They're dirt cheap now and you could leave your big mitts on.

I'm in the Winnipeg area, so I feel ya.
Even with them covering part of the phone I'd be scared.
This honestly does not seem like a big issue at all. Every where there is some freak out about the devices that does not carry on. I live in Japan. It gets absolutely muggy here during the summer. People take a device that is built of metal and glass from a cold, air conditioned environment of 20C with little humidity and then suddenly step outside in temperatures in the 30C's with humidity near 80%, then expect this cooled glass and metal sandwich to ignore the laws of physics?? It has been rainy in Seoul, Korea the past week.
It is good to note any issues that a newly launched phone may have, yet I think people take things to the extreme these days. Every new phone is going to have a specific number of units with failures and defects.
Or they rushed out a product and released it before fully testing
Err that’s one user? Hardly an issue.
Do you think they done something to camera glass due to the incidents that happened with the s20 ultra
I mean they did something related to pressure as some s20U was broken with no reason as if they where under pressure
I saw people comment that this was an issue on older samsungs too when moving from extreme temperatures. Doesn't seem like too big of an issue as long as it returns to normal after the device warms up. This is an issue with camera lenses for real cameras as well.

That means the issue is not widespread, which is good. Someone on Samsung reddit posted they had this issue in USA I believe.
Code:
https://www.reddit.com/r/samsung/comments/idoxdx/check_note_20_ultra_camera_for_dust/
I am in France and bought from Orange unlocked 256gb Exynos Mystic Bronze, and I have dust in the middle camera. Mail sent to Samsung to see what they will do. It wasn't there when I bought it, its the first thing I checked when I got it out of the box.
With the fogging issues in Camera some other issues over there to
I was suspected of some other issues in my Note 20 Ultra the many times 20ffp delay while using a smartpen. usually, I was using my Ipad for designing ULM Diagram For Assignment but this time I was using my new note so I suspected this delay.
