Can you write on the screen? - Lenovo Yoga Book Questions & Answers

So, as strange as this is, I cannot seem to find the answer. i have seen this question asked in other areas/comments sections/etc but never given an answer.
I like being able to use a pen, and I like the idea of this tabtop/laplet, but I don't really use a wacom graphics tablet. I have in the past, but not anymore. When I use pen input I want to write directly onto the display , and directly onto what I am interacting with.
So....can you write directly on the screen? Much as you would on Samsung Note device or other direct pen input wacom devices?
If so, is there a difference, or does not it act normally? Same precision, same levels of pressure, palm rejection, etc?
Thanks in advance.

You can write on the screen but not so good as on the creative pad
Lenovo Calls this anypen (on the screen), but no palm reaction Look on YouTube

You can, but it has to be turned on in the settings. As far as I can tell, there is no pressure sensitivity, but otherwise it seems to work OK. As a previous post said this is called "anypen" by Lenovo.

[req] Thumb Print Screen Unlock

I think it would be a great idea to have some sort of thumb print software that would lock our diamonds. But has to have your thumb print to unlock the phone. Let me know ideas on development.
Well.. i guess this isn't possible because there is no finger print scan thingy in the diamond, so it cant scan if its really ur thumb

Agree and the only way i can see this ever happening is if the camera was utilized and even then, the idea is skeptical.
is there no way we could program it to measure the points on you finger? but i guess there has to be some sort of biometrics involved.
i guess it may be coming check this out

its a pressure sensitive screen... it might be possible with a capacitive screen like the iPhone's and G1's heat sensing screen, but even then i find it HIGHLY unlikely
Even if its fake and gimmicky Symbian and Apple already have this app and I want it.

Nope. Highly highly highly unlikely this can be done. Our screens are just not sensitive enough to scan our thumb prints.
You can always have a fake, whereby it just looks like it's scanning your thumb print and unlock the phone. But it really defeats the purpose, because no added security at all.
It will be rally good to make some fake such as on the 5800, most of wm users will love it ;-) But with biometric scanner, ehm, we have to wait
you've got more chance of getting a working iris scanner for that.
i've seen a laptop do that using a webcam, so a phone with front-cam should be able to do it too(but at what battery and patience cost?)

Exactly if we could make a app that would measure how hard we would press the screen and we be able to go back re configure how hard the screen need to be pressed to unlock the phone

Recommendations for a stylus please

could anyone share any experiences for a good working stylus for the hd2?
this phone is stupendous but alas i have to use it for work and the software we use requires very tiny touches and signature signing.
have tried the ones on e-bay (rubber topped pencil turned upside down)
which is crap...have now tried the htc and dagi ones with the tiny red dot and they are just not cutting it.
has anyone done any homemade experiments or come across a moe "pointy" stylus
toodle pip amigos
I got some, and they were crap...

Unfortunately you are all too correct!
With the glass screen!
Put a protector on it and they work!
I have been using the dagi long slim one and it works ok, I do have a screen protector on though so maybe this helps... makes selecting text and writing Chinese characters much easier (I use my hd2 to study/translate Chinese so being able to use a stylus to do this is pretty great)... its a bit fiddly to start with as you need to learn how to use it properly, but once you get used to it everything is ok...
Most of the styli are crap, I need something with more of a point, but that's probably not possible. Still waiting for some sort of battery powered pen that offers pin point precision, a guy can dream right...
i'll try to put a screen protector on as suggested and try...
my problem is it's no good mastering the dagi myself as i have to get customers signatures and most people simply can't use it...
it deffo needs something more pointy.
i'm sure i read somewhere on the forum about a guy who was filing something to a point till it stopped working???
i'm so frustrated as this is the only phone in 8 years that uses my works software flawlessly...except stylii
I have ordered the official htc stylus 400.
arrives in 2 weeks and i'll post comments.
read a review after ordering that it actually scratches the screen!
I guess i should have waited for the 400/2 version!
look on the bright side, will probably misplace it by the second day anyway
I've tried using my DS stylus but that doesnt work, seems like it was made for bigger objects to come in contact with the screen (ie fingers).

It`s not about the size of objects. HD2 has capacitive screen.
"A capacitive touchscreen panel consists of an insulator such as glass, coated with a transparent conductor such as indium tin oxide (ITO).[2][3] As the human body is also a conductor, touching the surface of the screen results in a distortion of the body's electrostatic field, measurable as a change in capacitance. Different technologies may be used to determine the location of the touch. The location can be passed to a computer running a software application which will calculate how the user's touch relates to the computer software."

thanx for input guys..i least i know about capacitive screens now thanx to kregowski...although i sorta knew.
so if someone could come up with a small pointy thing that gives off some sort of electro staticy stuff...we in..
the search continues
Got the dagi (10 euro from Hong Kong). I am not amused... Touching the screen with the complete tip flat on the screen is annoying to get used to. Often only the side of the tip touches the screen.
When the tip is flat on the screen (which it should) it just does not feel OK. Not "delicate".
Which the screen responsiveness lowered and the tap-reaction time increased (which I did just to be able to get some decent fingertyping results) the dagi does not function adequate. I have to aim more accurate then with my fingers and have to press the dagi on the screen.
Putting the screensettings to default (which I did not try yet) reinstates all the drawbacks in the other functionalities.

[Q] S-pen vs. finger, need some clarificaton.

I am happy, apart from WiFi problem, Note 3 user but I have some questions regarding spen. I havent head any experience with spen before but I guess my expectations were higher then the reality, so here we go:
1. Shell the spen be sensitivity be equally good to my fingertip? In my case, finger servse it purpose better.
2. When I use the spen at an angle ( so colled natualr writing angle) the reception is poor. is it normal?
3. Shell I apply slight pressure when using the spen, or shell "the touch" itself be enaugh?
4. The worst part is about the capacitve buttons, I need to tap with the spen, 2-3 times before the device registers it.
Please help me out, as I need to make my mind before I go complaining
Thanks!
I went to the shop and tried the note 3 before I bought it. (3 different shops).
At the shop I played around with it, mainly with the s-pen.
I can definitely say from my own experience (30 min all up) that I found using the pen quite easy, and while I I needed to get used to it for the first couple of minutes, I experienced no issues.
I also used the pen from another samsung tablet that was next to it and found no problem.
I will say that my finger is much less accurate than the s-pen.
If you have a problem, try and go to a shop and try their note 3 pen on your device to see if its different.
You could try a tablet pen as well to see if that makes a difference for you.
Good luck.

The S-Pen is Wacom pen technology based device, which allows presure sensitive writing/drawing if the program/App makes use of this.
You will see a pointer if you come close to the screen with the wacom pen and moving across the screen, in windows tablet the mouse pointer is already there but will move with the pen movement too.
You have to touch the scrren with the pen tip an provide at least minimal preassure. The benfits are:
- if the programs do not support preasure sensitive input you may assume that it's not better then your finger.
- If the program supports preasure sensitive writing/drawing the line will get thicker or more pronounced e.g. if you draw using the spray paint. -
- Other Wacom pens work too, e.g. the S-Pen from my Samsung Slate7 win7 X700T1a tablet. It's slightly larger and better suited for work.
- The main benefit over the smaller pen that come with the Note is that on the opposite site of the pens tip is the erase button, that allows you to erase parts you don't won't.
- In addition to the keayboard you get also handwriting recognition, which is toggled by a button on the keyoard.
Unfortunately Samsung does not provide many details on the interfaces or versions, but I would assume it to be around 256 presure steps. Wacom tablets may be as high as 1024 -2048 steps.
I hope that helps you to have a better understanding of Wacom technology and what to look for. For me the Wacom based pen was a large reason why I choose a Notes.
Thank you for your answers but I am rather then understanding the technology trying to identyfi if the s-pen that came with my note 3 works as yours.
I just wanna ask if it register / works the same as yours and if you are experiencing the same when using it.
1. Is is as respoosive as your finger when touching the screen? Is just "touching" just enuagh, or sligh pressure need to by applied when navigatin between screen or while browsing?
2. And the captivate buttons, do they register your taps every time?
Thanks!

1. A slight touch on it. Just like how you touch or tap it using your finger.
2. Yes, since Note 8.0, S Pen works with the captive buttons. Ours one too.
Different between using S Pen and finger for the Air View is:
1. Finger - you can preview picture / SMS / header / email / speed dial etc
2. S Pen - besides what the finger could detect, S Pen also act as the mouse hovering mode and you can hover it above most of the icon and shows you a description what does the icon do

High sensitivity mode - technically

Hi!
First of all, I do not know if it is an appropriate place to ask such a question, but I have not found any better place.
The point is, that I need to specify with an appropriate scale, that a capacitive screen can be used with gloves on hands. For example, I can say that something is heavy, because its weight is over 10 kilograms. I have to specify the ability of operating on a capacitive screen with gloves on in a similar way.
As far as I know, the sensitivity of touch screen is based on the capacitance of capacitors built within the screen. Am I right? Is it, what makes the high sensitivity mode in i9505 possible? If so, what capacitance should allow the screen to recognise a touch through a glove?
A strange question it is, I know ;D
Any help would be appreciated, thanks

Broken screen, how can I control it? And what can I use the phone for?

My I dropped my S7 edge and cracked the screen so that half of the screen kind of works but the touch does not work. I can see the lockscreen but if I connect a mouse I see a pointer for a fraction of a section then the screen goes dark. Maybe the lockscreen disables it.
But what are the best way to install some app on it to be able to remotley control it from a computer without using the touch?
If I get control of the phone can I use a chromecast to cast the screen to an external screen or are there any other aletrnatives as I read that there are none MHL support any longer.
And what could you use it for ? maybee some sort of Tasker "server",
crappy game console if you could cast the screen to a chromecast connected tv and add a bluetooth controller.?
What other scenarios could you use it for?
I know this is old but I'm at this part with a Samsung Galaxy s7 I have. The screens on these phones just are to fragile. I didn't even drop it and the back got so hot the glass broke on the back with not dropping it. Then next thing I know it the screen and lcd are all gone crazy on the front. I already Samsung backed up.
I'm wondering if there is a way to use ABD to push a set up so that I can use the phone connected to the chromecast or something where I can see it on my smart TV. So I guess is there an app to upload adb and a certain way to allow the Bluetooth keyboard to connect to take control. This is a really interesting way to find ways to have fun... Just thought it would be worth figuring out so people who are stuck with broken screens can maybe use the android as a backup drive on the computer ext...
I know that anything is possible. I don't really like to say that there is no way because there is a way to do anything if we put are minds to it. . But I don't know enough about it to making calls like that. I hope someone can at least figure out so we can use Bluetooth and wireless to get a working screen on the device in its altered state.
