Unable to update from 4.4.4 n910f - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone..
I have the problem with updating software. Right now on my phone is 4.4.4. and I would like to update the software to the latest official. Through Software Update option on phone it says "Unable to download software", and through KIES that this is the latest software. Can you tell me what should I do to update sw through ODIN? Should I firstly root the phone, and in case I need, can you give me the links to all files, and for root and for sw?
heres the sw version https://postimg.org/image/q2hd7sb5h/

You don't necessarily need root to flash the latest software. I would however, flash a custom recovery to backup your data just in case.
You will lose all your data if you decide to flash marshmallow onto your phone through odin.
To flash it, download marshmallow from https://samsung-firmware.org/model/SM-N910F/
Select the appropriate firmware and download it, it'll take about 8 hours to download it, you can't really get a faster download anywhere else sadly.
Download Samsung USB drivers from https://androidmtk.com/download-samsung-usb-drivers
Once downloaded, open up odin and click on "AP", select the firmware you just downloaded.
Boot up your device in download mode Power + Vol Down + Home
Plug it in, and let ODIN recognize your device
Simply click on start and wait for to complete. You'll know it's complete when you'll see a green "pass" on the top left.
You now have marshmallow!

Okay, now i see that software depends from region. Actually, phone was buyed on aliexpress, does i need to know for which country the phone was intended or i should just download the software for country i am living?

It shouldn't really matter, just select the snapdragon software if your phone uses a snapdragon processor.

yes, agree with earlier reply...
you don't need to follow region. just download based on your phone model (I saw is N910F from your screenshot)....
choose the latest for N910F. and you are good to go.
but, my personal reference is......
choose the one without the provider....
because the one with the provider (e.g : Poland (Orange))... this one will give you the telco provider apps as well, which might not use for you.
Remember to backup your contact, your whatsapp, your sms, or whatever u need to backup.
Cheers,
WJ

As you said, I have done.. Everything went fine, now im running marshmallow.. Just the downloading from samsung-firmware was so boooooring. I couldnt wait so ive paid 7days membership, and even then, only from mirrored link was possible do download correctly. Via first link, two times downloaded only 1gb and then interrupted. However, now when it is finished im pleased with the performance.
P.S. Can you direct me to any links where is described GPS hardware on note 4? I am pretty sure I have some hardware failure with gps. With both software, and kitkat and marshmallow, GPS programs shows only 10-15 visible satellites, but none in use (Used to wait and to 20minutes to connect, no results).

Our friend: The chinese firmware

Dear All,
I have the following phone:
Model number: GT-I9100G
Android version: 2.3.5
Baseband version: I9100GZCKI1
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.7 [email protected]#2
Build Number: GINGERBREAD-ZCKI1
This phone is original bought in China Mainland, so, no google sync, no market, no Whatsapp... Even no useful GPS...
I was reading lot of posts and I decided to change my firmware into a european one...
I get the open europe version, download Odin, put in debug mode...
SOFT BRICK! (Now I know perfectly the meaning of this).
PANIC MODE ON!
Cold sweat running my back, ashtray full, 2:30 am... Nothing.
Next morning, after a hard night full of nightmares with my phone, I was searching information how to get it back... so I get the official chinese firmware.
Download again, use Odin, Start... NOTHING!
I was searching a JTAG service center in China when OMG, a clever malasian guy said:
"The secret to the sauce: The correct PIT file should have been included, and "re-partition" option is ticked and the correct PIT file for I9100G is as attached."
**I can't post the link**
(PS: THANK YOU VERY VERY VERY MUCH!!!!)
uffff! Saved.
As now I have the key to come back to the original status... Let's try other options...
I tried superoneclick: Blocked on step 7
I tried another post here suggesting use the I9100ZNKG5-ownhere-v1.2.4.Odin:Success, but, can't turn on. Stops at the beggining with our yellow triangle friend...
Oh, I've forget to say that I'm in china, so search and download firmwares is an epic task! hotfile, rapidshare and so on are blocked! At least I have a VPN, but I'm sure that not everyone have...
So now, what can I do? Is there any solution to take the chinese firmware out?
I was wondering maybe the .pit file is the solution to use ZNKG5... but I can't find it anywhere.
I have read another post from a Colombian guy (sorry, I don't have the link) that there is method changing the modem in a clockwork orange... really, too complicated to me.
My intention is keep a post with all the files needed to change the firmware if is possible.
You can put here your links and I will upload the files into chinese web storages, because the problem is from phones bought from China, so I guess people will be living in China...
I get the open europe version, download Odin, put in debug mode...
SOFT BRICK! (Now I know perfectly the meaning of this).
PANIC MODE ON!
Usual is not flashing G Model firmware but flashing i9100 firmware .
PIT files are dangerous do not use or repartition as that may brick your phone .
jje
So, can I use any firmware meanwhile is G version?
Maybe I've downloaded the not G one...
Well, try is worthy.
You need to use i9100g firmware, I9100 stuff will not work.
Now to root you can flash this kernel, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1369977
There is a custom rom for the i9100g, let me just find it and I will come back and link
Edit: rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1374135
You can also check http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/ for stock unmodified roms, but make sure you use one for i9100g, that g is important, it's almost a totally different phone than the international version, only the name and screen are the same.

To be honest I don't know that much about the i9100g, download your stock firmware, from sammobile or elsewhere, (I tried looking but the results where mostly in Chinese which I don't speak, sorry) so if the version you flash does not work you can jump back
Here is more info; http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/2068824/all
Also Google for checkfus as it should allow you to download the firmwares from Samsung.

FFS, G model has a different CPU do not use any NONE G firmware.
Chinese model has different signed boots which will reject any firmware which is NOT for the Chinese version.
Double Trouble
Take it back, go to a black market and buy the international version
or just enjoy the phone as it was meant to be.
But we are speaking about software right?
I mean, must be a way to change the boot right or something right?
And hope I could turn it back, but too late... And I'm sure that more people should be in the same situation.

You could use JTAG and change the boots to the normal G version instead of the Chinese G boots.
Hey! I have the market on my phone! and Whatsapp!
As soon as I can link webs I will put all of the information!!!
Yujuuuuuuuuuuu!!!!
It's like have a new phone!
Ok, I can paste links.
I will upload the files and share them next week.
Ok!
As promised here are the files and guide about how to change your chinese i9100g into a "civilizated" phone:
STEP 0 (SECURITY COPY)
Make a security copy of your contacts, pictures, movies.... This process will delete EVERYTHING from your phone.
STEP 1 (ODIN)
Get Odin from below link and open it
http://www.wupload.com/file/2677120037/Odin3-v1.85.zip
STEP 2 (ROOT)
Download below link and root your phone with Odin.
http://www.wupload.com/file/2677118927/I9100G_ZCKH4_KERNEL_ROOT.tar
There are several guides on this forum about how to do but moreless is:
Take out the connection wire if you have it
Turn off your phone
Put it into download state (volume down+home+power)
Press volume up to confirm the download state
Turn on Odin
Connect the phone to the computer
on PDA use the KERNEL ROOT file that you have just downloaded
re-partition must be UNchecked
START
STEP 3 (ROM)
Download the link below and do the same procedure as above but in the PDA put the file you just have downloaded.
http://www.wupload.com/file/2677117442/I9100G_ZCKI1_MIC_03.tar
STEP 4 (WIFI & Yellow triangle on start up)
Download below link and same as before (Put this file on PDA and START).
http://www.wupload.com/file/2677119517/i9100G_ZCKI1_KERNEL.tar
Your phone will be in chinese as when you bought it. Just change the language.
ENJOY!!!
Oh, in case of failure or just "in case"...

[Q] N9005 "No Service" need help to troubleshoot

Hey All,
I got a Note 3 N9005, which supposedly was purchased in UAE.
Currently trying to use it in India, but, the device always says "No Service", with a crossed circle instead of network signal icon on notification bar.
Phone is on 4.2.2 with UGNH1. Below are some observations:
- Phone does NOT ask for any PIN / Unlock Code.
- In Settings > Status.. irrespective of any SIM, or no SIM.. Mobile Network Type = Unknown, Service State= Out of service, Mobile Network State=Disconnected.
- Orig CSC code is displayed as XTC from Phone Info App
- Tried to select a different CSC from CSC Select app.. it changed the boot logo but, network status.. still crossed circle
- IMEI is proper as printed below the battery
- Still i tried ChainFire's RegionLockAway. But, as expected, the method is only for MI7 / MJ1 / MJ3 JB versions. Sadly mine has already crossed and has A2 bootloader. So, no change was observed with CF RegionLockAway. Reverted the cahnges.
- Tried to flash MJ1 / MJ3 binaries from sammobile. As expected the latest bootloader won't allow to downgrade.
- Flashed Omega, but for no luck. Still no service and crossed circle icon.
- Flashed latest CyanogenMod. Though there was no Crossed Circle icon, there was an icon of network signal with zero network.
- Flashed official Lollipop verson to see if any changes.. no luck. Reverted back.
- Installed advanced network info app, network status, neighboring MSC, cells.. etc was shown as none.
No clue how to enable the device's network capabilities (all else like WiFi and other feature work as usual).
It will be a great help if you can guide me through! Please let me know if any other info is required.
Thanks a lot in advance. !!
Purchased in UAE doesn't necessarily it was a UAE phone. Phone Info Samsung from Play Store can tell you where it is from.
What I would do is...
Download the firmware from Sammobile to suit your phone. One fairly common issue is that Hong Kong or Chinese phones get sold into Europe or other markets and their PIT and other partitions are different. So first thing is to go back to scratch.
If you phone IS from where you think, make sure you have the stock firmware for that location and flash the latest version using Odin and Download mode.
Start Odin - v3.09 is best.
To enter DL mode for anything to do with BL or Modem you MUST turn phone off. It is best to remove the battery and wait a while, then put it in and use the Power On+Vol-Down+Home key to get into DL mode, then [plug phone into PC and wait for Odin to notice it is there.
(if Odin doesn't notice it, get the latest Samsung USB drivers for the phone and install them with phone unplugged, then plug in phone and Windows should give a pop-up)
Click on AP in Odin and navigate to where you saved the firmware - note you DL'd a zip but you need the md5 file so use 7zip to unpack the zip.
Click on the md5 file and wait for it to load into Odin.
* [Auto Reboot] and [F.Reset Time] should be the ONLY things ticked.
Click [Start] and wait.
Let phone restart and set it up with your details. Once done see if you have network.

Thanks Journyman16 for the quickreply.
I installed the "Phone Info Samsung" app as you mentioned and found the phone's CSC code is XTC! (= Philippines (Open Line))!!
Thanks for the hint. I will download the latest firmware from sammobile for n98005 for XTC and check. Will be back with updates in some time.

Update:
Flashed below 3 stock firmwares from sammobile, each time cleared cache and factory wipe.. still the crossed circle is hopelessly adamant and persistent.
4.4.2 N9005XXUGNH1
4.4.2 N9005XXUGNI4
4.3 N9005XXUDMJ7 (failed to flash, i guess due to current bootloader version A3)
I tried with Odin 3.09.3 & 3.10.6 & 3.07 .... same result.
Any suggestions? please share.. I'm ok to soft brick the phone Recovered from boot loop few times
Any further suggestions? Please share.. Shall i give a try with full wipe (/system/ folder wipe) with TWRP ? Or any other thing ?!
Tried a different sim card ??
Checked APN settings .
Checked you have modem/ baseband via settings .

They are old stock ROMs - how sure are you the phone wasn't updated to the new version of BL? I'm not sure if you're on the new version and then try to downgrade it, which version you will see in Phone Info but check it. There's also a phone # code to use that returns the basics for the phone, but I can't recall if you said you get calls or not and I'm heading for bed. Think the code is something like *#12334#* - google for secret smartphone codes.

I tried with different SIM, yet no luck.
APN settings.. shows my SIM operator's default settings.
When I search networks Manually.. it searches for a ~10 seconds and returns without any list/error.
Select automatically shows "Automatic registration.." progress continuously for > 5 mins.. i closed manually.

Yea Journyman16, they seem to be still good old of 4.4.2. Latest must be 5.0. On samobile, for XTC i could see only till 4.4.2. Maybe for this phone version, there are no updates? Not sure.
And, yes, sadly BL is updated to A3. Which I could see in Recovery mode's REV line. (if it was A1, I could have flashed MI7 and tried RegionLockAway.. )

I'd upgrade rather than try to get around the downgrade issues. What Region do you WANT to have? European ones seem to get early release of upgrades - e.g. many LP ROMs are based around the Polish release.
I don't know enough to interpret logs, but my thought would be to find a non-Philippines version (one of the Europe ones perhaps) and find a PIT file for that one. Then go read up on how to safely flash a new PIT. Then flash your preferred firmware and follow the root process etc.
I started with a HK version of S3 - every time I tried to flash a new ROM it failed and bricked my phone. Eventually I found that the PIT file on most Asian phones was different and I flashed PIT, then stock FW for the region I wanted then re-rooted and flashed the custom ROM.
Read many time, flash once, OK? I do not make bricks, nor need them, so I will not accept them delivered to my door...

There's a Euro PIT on the link at This Post - I checked and the dropbox is still valid. It's 4.4.2 so could be just what you need.
Now you probably want an India ROM but I haven't any links for that 0 there's a thread for India users though I think.
What I think might be happening is that different countries use different frequencies and formats for signal. It might be that India's set up simply doesn't work with the modem you've been using and the India ROM will not set up with the Asian PIT set up etc.
But read up on the process first, OK? The more you know about it the better chance you have to recover from anything going wrong.
Also, I presume from your OP that the phone NEVER worked once you got it? Do you know for a fact it worked prior to that? Maybe you're chasing solutions for a faulty hardware issue?

Hi Journyman16, thanks for the suggestions.. i tried the pit file you referred, but, still no luck. And, if i'm not wrong pit file is all about allocating ROM space for /system & /dbdata and has nothing to deal with the antenna/telephony module, please correct if i'm not right.
About the phone's status yea you're right. It never worked after i received it. But, it was working usually in UAE, as per the info i got. Maybe.. as you suspected.. it might be faulty hardware too.. I don't know.. just exploring the options.. to conclude something..

The only unbranded NH1's seem to be Greece or Netherlands. Netherlands has a 5.0 - maybe DL that and flash in Odin? Greece has a v5.0 but it's branded with (EUR) so I don't know if that's a company or general... I'd go the Netherlands one.
Other than that, I'm not sure - might be time to get the phone checked properly?
Finally.. could trace the root cause.. antenna / receiver chip malfunction. So, it was an hardware issue that had to be replaced at a cost at service center.
Summary: If network icon is crossed circle, its not a good sign !! Thanks

Does the YD-206 variant get the lollipop update natively?

With all the updating going on lately for the YotaPhone I am lost if the Chinese (YD-206) got the update? I mean without the hassle of trying to flash the RU version on it?
If not maybe could you help me find the cheapest YD-201 version? It's be greatly appreciated!
Also another question I had on my mind was how the performance is for simple VR games? I noticed it has Gyroscope and I wanted to use Riftcat and a leap motion to simulate a vive... Maybe use some freetrack with it to get some tracking so i can walk a little too! I don't wanna bore you all with the details but yeah do you guys think it can handle some of the games? I realize that riftcat just streams it from my PC but i'm not sure how intensive that is!
Thanks guys I appreciate it! Also if all works out and I get all that VR stuff going I'll keep you all updated! Again Thank You all so much

The Chinese version is unfortunately stuck on KitKat. Flashing to the RU firmware is not that hard and if it should fail you can always flash back to the Chinesae version.
Yes, I agree , it's easy , put handset in developer mode so your PC can talk to it, then install yotaflasher on the PC, 1 option to download your chosen firmware zip file then another option to flash your handset. If there is something wrong (normally adb drivers) you have not lost anything.
The problems will only start if it does not flash and you have to tinker.
But yes, I recommend that you try to update to the latest release.
Yes Yotaphone works very well with VR games, gets a little hot and uses battery , but so all handsets.
I think even if you buy the yd201 , you may not have an update selection, but I am not sure of this. They usually have a special modified retailer firmware with more languages and stopping updates. A few weeks ago when I ordered my yd206 there were plenty of international yd201s and even some white Yotaphone, but now there fewer.

I think I am convinced too take my chance with the YD-206 now, I was just a little skeptical since I saw some others on the forum having problems trying to get it too RU. But in one of the threads a saw a solution if I can't get it too work by doing it manually.

After some searching for solutions, it appears that my phone isn't set to a specific country (so I guess it doesn't know what software to install). I have installed "Phone INFO" which shows as per the attached screenshot.
My question is what could have caused this? If I was to reinstall firmware or attempt to add a CSC could it cause issues? Is it likely the previous owner was just a tinkerer? Am worried If I add a CSC my phone may become blocked or something but If I don't I can't use my Gear VR
Any help or advice greatfully received.
what software version is on your phone ?
It looks like someone may have have upgraded your phone to nougat beta or a custom ropm. Nougat beta does not have a csc associated with it. You need to flash one after installing.nougat beta.
I suggest you ddownload one for your provider from samfirmware or contact the sellor and try to find out what was done to the phone.

The previous owner has probably installed a custom rom and that's why the csc is missing. If you don't have root, then I would recommend for you download the stock firmware and flash it with Odin and that should fix your problem.

Please see attached for the software info, does this looks like the beta? Thanks for the replies both, I'll look into this Odin and see what it's all about. I haven't done anything with firmwares for years, not since messing about with Nitdroid on my old Nokia N9, hopefully can still get to grips with it all!

Nope. not nougat
You can download full rom and flash through odin. Make sure you flash all 4 files (bl,ap,modem and CSC).
Here's what I thought happened.
Previous owner root phone(cause knox 0x1)
and probably update the firmware by flashing rom though odin or use custom rom. But he/she didn't know how to flash the full firmware though odin properly(or just don't want to. idk) because of the old modem(baseband APEQ) but new rom file(build APG3) and also missing CSC.
These probably mean he/she flashes only AP files(rom) in odin and ignore the other 2 files(modem and CSC) and might also bl file(bootloader).

Yeah that sounds very plausible, just can't imagine why they would root it and update firmware but not do it properly, every guide I've read directs you to use the appropriate CSC for your country. Well I've got Odin running as we speak, so fingers crossed I can get this working and that I'll be testing out the VR as soon as possible! Does put me off buying second hand in future, but I guess on the plus side at least I don't have a warranty to worry about and can have some fun with different firmware.
some small 3 rd party providers or regional area have csc which are not commonly available, so when you upgrade you would not want to touch the csc.
The sim you are using may not recognize the csc the previous sim card was using that is why it is giving you there error message.
Could be that, guess we'll never know.
As mentioned above I have flashed with the latest firmware and updated the CSC, fortunately it's all working now so thanks for all the support. My refurbishment check now shows as attached.

How to change baseband version in Galaxy S4(i9500)?

I bought Samsung Galaxy S4 in 2013 back when it was a flagship device, it came installed with Android Jellybean, almost 4 years have passed and it is still stuck at Jellybean. Since then, it didn't got a single update.
I'm not sure what is the latest update for S4 because the updates pushed by Samsung never reach my phone and that is because of baseband version. Other S4's have got quite a few updates till now. In fact, I updated my friend's S4 to Lollipop and my own S4 is stuck at Jellybean.
I visited Samsung website and found that they release updates only for some baseband versions of S4 and that list didn't contain the baseband version of my S4 so it is forever stuck at 4.2.2. Samsung Customer Care says go to service center, they will update your phone manually. I said why should I when I got a flagship phone, it should get updates OTA.
Because my S4 didn't get any update, the same thing must have happened with many other ones and will probably happen with S8 due to launch in 2017. Many of those S8s will never receive any single update.
So is it possible that baseband version can be changed and I switch to the one that gets update? There is always an option to flash a custom ROM but if I get an official update to Lollipop, I will be happy.
Before the Samsung update reaches your phone it has to pass through the carrier's hands first, where they add their crappy bloat.
In other words, if there's no update, then it's probably your carrier's fault.
You could update manually with Odin.

I am from India so no system of carrier here.
Umm, you guys in India have cellular networks. Those are the aforementioned carriers. They may not add any bloat, but they do have to test the updates first before releasing them to the devices. This is to ensure the update doesn't cause unwanted problems on the network. However, we're heading into 2017, and after all this time you should have received an update to Android 5.0.1. So let's verify that you have a model intended for India. Please enter download mode and read off the model number at the top left corner of the screen.
Changing the baseband will not automatically get you a ROM update. If you want an updated ROM for your phone, I suggest updating to the latest bootloader and modem, flash TWRP, and then flash a custom ROM.

Here is the correct firmware version of my device: sammobile.com/firmwares/download/14242/I9500XXUAMDK_I9500ODDAMDK_INU
Sam Mobile is not displaying Android version, if you look at sammobile.com/firmwares/database/GT-I9500/INU, my device PDA and CSC versions are second from last. But if you look at other S4s in the same list, most of them got Android 5.0.1 so can't I just download any one of them and flash it using Odin?
You're looking on the wrong page. Individual ROM pages do not display the Android version, but the full list does, where that information is applicable. In your case, the ROM you linked to doesn't have a version number, but also happens to be the ROM originally on the device, based upon the PDA and CSC. Check here. Not only does it tell you the version, but tells you the date it was posted. The one you want will be at the top of the list, as it's the latest available for your device.

I also posted the same link as yours, just scroll to the very bottom, there are 2 entries that doesn't display the Android version and one of them is mine - second from last. The PDA and CSC matches my device.
PDA - I9500XXUAMDK
CSC - I9500ODDAMDK
Well, you might want to reread my post, as I edited it while you were typing.
Anyway, in post 6, this is the link you provided: sammobile.com/firmwares/download/14242/I9500XXUAMDK_I9500ODDAMDK_INU
This is mine: sammobile.com/firmwares/database/GT-I9500/INU/
Big difference.
The link you provided takes you directly to that particular ROM. The link I provided takes you to every ROM available for that device using the CSC of INU. Based upon your opening post, you're looking to update to the latest ROM. However, you are getting hung up because the ROM you currently have on your device doesn't have a date. It doesn't matter how old your ROM is! The latest version for your device will always be at the top of the database page, i.e. the link I provided in post 7. Thus, as of this moment, the ROM you want is here. Download it, flash it via Odin, and you're done.

Thanks! By the way, I did post 2 links, it's just that because I don't have a total of 10 posts, I can't post link so the second link(in plain text) isn't easily spotable but it is there and it is same as yours. Check after "Sam Mobile is not displaying Android version"
Obvious link was not obvious. You're right.

I've downloaded firmware from the link you provided, flashed it via ODIN and now my S4 is successfully running 5.0.1, thanks a lot! Need one more help from you - I didn't perform factory reset, I directly flashed the firmware and now only 2 things have changed on my phone - root status and android version. Root is now gone and that's what I wanted, Android version has also changed but all my files, data and apps are same; no single app got deleted, all are exactly same as before so do I need to perform a factory reset and wipe cache?
If you haven't encountered any bugs or app crashes, I don't think a factory reset is needed.
