Stock Nougat on Axon 7? - ZTE Axon 7 Questions & Answers

Hi! I have absolutely NO technical knowledge, and am really, really lost. I'm currently deciding between the Axon 7 and the 6P for my next phone. I love the Axon, but my one requirement for my next phone is stock Nougat with Google Assistant. I read that it is possible on the Nexus 6P to unlock GA, but is it possible on the Axon to get stock N in the first place? From there, could I unlock GA? If nothing is available on the Axon, I'm buying in two weeks, so I can't wait long for it to come out. I couldn't seem to find anywhere that can help me, so I turned to XDA. Thank you in advance!
TLDR: Can the Axon 7 get stock Nougat with Google Assistant as of this moment? I'm okay with rooting or whatever is necessary.

I left the axon 7 to come back to the Nexus 6p ... The best choice and I have already install many mods and apk from pixel like Google assistant

No, Axon 7 will not get GA. Goggle already state that it's only for the Pixel for the time being.
In addition, I don't think we will be seeing Android N on this phone in the near future.

Honestly, a two second Google search turns up an answer to the Nougat question.

i don't know where you get the idea of A7 not getting Android N, but A7 WILL GET Android N, maybe not this month but , N is coming.

There's a bunch of Pixel fanboys hurt that the ZTE Axon 7 has better hardware than the XL, at half the cost.
When people ask how Google can justify the $870 for a Pixel XL when that buys two AXON 7 phones, they get mad. Over in their forum, they're spreading FUD that the Axon 7 won't get Nougat to make themselves feel better.
He probably got it from them.

READ what I wrote. I said it will not get Google Assistant because Google decided that that's Pixel phone exclusive for now. I also said it will not get Android N any time soon.
We probably see it toward the end of November if we are lucky. ZTE has to fix the HUGE PILE of bugs on the current roms before they even try to go with Android N. That's how software life cycle works.

FFS, LEARN TO READ before you decided to be a douchbag.
I said A7 will not be getting Android N anytime in the near future. OP is asking if A7 will get Android N before 6p and we know that's not likely at all.
I had the A7 since launch. I am the guy that posted links on where to buy them on XDA when they launch.

I was asking if it were possible to install stock N by rooting(?) or some other method on the A7, as of this moment. If not, I'm buying the 6P, because it will receive stock N.

Hopefully we will get 7.1 instead of 7.0 :/

Obviously. The 5X/6P got stock N before Google offered up the final N code to other manufacturers.

Also, ZTE Axon 7 is the first smartphone to be released that's Daydream VR compatible. Daydream VR REQUIRES Nougat.
So, of course Nougat is coming for this phone.

The ZTE Axon 7 is the first smartphone announced to be Google Daydream-compatible along with its very-own VR headset, the ZTE VR. It just needs Android Nougat and Google's necessary VR maintenance software update to pull it off, which will come in the Android Nougat 7.1 update.

We are currently integrating the Daydream package into Axon 7 now. It requires an Android N upgrade and we need final certification from Google. So please note that Axon 7 is not Daydream-ready the day that Daydream launches from Google. We have said all along that we are working with Google on Daydream, which is true, and that we anticipate that it will receive the certification. We only recently received the final Daydream package so it will take some time to finish the integration on Axon 7 and then get certification. We will make a future announcement when it is Daydream ready.

Learn to read? You're the one who can't read. Plus you are giving out incorrect information. You also might want to chill with the name-calling.
You misquoted the op. He did NOT NOT NOT ask if Axon 7 was getting Nougat before the 6p.
He did imply in the "near future", but actually said he wanted to buy either phone in two weeks. He didn't say it needed Nougat before then, but wanted assurance it would get Nougat as that would shape his decision.
But more importantly... The answer is YES, the ZTE Axon 7 WILL get Nougat 7.1 in the near future. Because ZTE marketed the Daydream VR capability and that requires 7.1 Nougat.
However, there are no promises of "stock" Nougat 7.1 nor any promises of Google Assistant. That will require the magic of XDA devs. But it will have Nougat 7.1 in the near future from ZTE.
Here's the op for you to read again, since you didn't read it well the first time?

Better be 7.1 since it's gone late significantly time ZTE to deliver to us.
ZTE has plenty of time to prepare 7.1 and bring it to us(it's already ready by Google)
They would not having any excuse not giving us 7.1 from the beginning.
As I know 7.1 will support VR capability and not 7.0 and other bug fix and optimized tweaks of the OS.

No, it doesn't work that way. We can't even get stock M at this point because ZTE isn't being very developer friendly at this time.

You are the one saying I am a "butthurt" Pixel fanboy saying Axon will not get Android N.
Where did i state such a thing?

Why not all just calm down now the miscommunication has been resolved and axon 7 users will get 7.1 as soon as it's developed.
After that we will surely start seeing more mods and development as well as i personally would not start developing for an operating system that's soon going to become obsolete and risk doing almost everything again... I'd just wait for the latest promised android version to be released and then start making modifications
Nice day and i can guarantee that a few weeks after the update development will have picked up. probably

I really want to stop this, but I must point out again you apparently can't read. I did NOT say that. You can check my post -- which has not been edited. The word you have in quotes is only in your mind, not my post. I did say a lot of Pixel fanbois were "hurt" (feelings hurt, wounded?) the Axon 7 is equal to or better than the XL in many/most hardware specs, for half the price. I assumed you had listened to them, perhaps were one of them. One guy over there attacked me incessantly when I compared hardware specs and they started the false rumor (over there) the ZTE Axon 7 wouldn't get Nougat -- which is quite ignorant and silly if you know anything about the Axon 7.
You started with the name calling and said the ZTE was not getting Nougat in the near future. ZTE says otherwise, if you take them at their promise from two weeks ago. They are diligently working on their version of Nougat 7.1 at least -- since they heavily marketed this phone as being Daydream VR capable, which requires Nougat.

Most seem to be saying October-November but honestly it seems as soon as they can get everything working since they seem to be wanting to be first to the market with Daydream to help promote the device and their company more in the premium market.
The only people who can give any real answer to that sort of question are the manufacturers themselves and they aren't going to tell you. Also, given that Daydream support isn't in the initial Nougat release but will come later in an update which is entirely in Google's hands as to when they release it. Google need to decide on a date for when it's ready and then tell ZTE who have to get it out the door at some point after Google announce its availability. A more pertinent question at this point is will ZTE wait for the Daydream enabling patch before releasing a Nougat ROM for the A7 or will they release one before that.
Tsk tsk, no asking for etas on XDA... Just kidding!
Always thank those who are helpful...and just ignore those who aren't.

Is anyone on b16 for the axon 7 mini

So through some digging on ZTE forums... A lot of digging I found that most users in the US have b12 for their axon 7 mini. I am currently on that version. It runs alright bit laggy in places I wouldn't expect the 617 to be. What really bums me out is the lack of T-Mobile volte on this version. From the forums I heard that they pulled the updated version b16. Saying g it wasn't fully functional. Does anyone have this version? Is their bugs you can verify? My guess is they have tried rolling it out because they are going to buy sleep it with nougat? I just don't want to get my hopes up with minis usually getting neglected. Thoughts? Wanted to discuss our options and just speculate in general.
well you guys are right with these updates etc.. but if there's one thing we know for sure it's that corporations can be very hazy about updates, pulling them here, skipping this for that, risky bugs.. it's even possible they're giving us an unlockable bootloader for everyone! as it seems now, we will have to wait a little bit longer for nougat or we will get a (useless if it's my meaning) marshallow update.
I live in belgium and there's no volte here (as far as I know) and the random lags don't make it a unsatisfying experience. (my meaning, don't take it personal )
back to the point, if we would stop blaming zte (cause if it's not about money, it should have a "real" problem like exploding axon 7 mini's xp) we will see updates soon :good: btw google wouldn't be happy if zte never updates this phone with google AI with this kind of audio recording hardware xp stone free ✌

and to be honest, this device was released with lesser firmware then the axon 7 if you get me, even the bocotloader isn't finalized, kernel wasn't/isn't as good as the moto g4.. battery hogs..
My phone upgraded from b16 to ZTE B2017G_USAV1.0.0B21 a few days ago. I am happy because the 3-5 second delay when turning on the speakerphone after initiating a call has been fixed.

I got updated to b21 as well. It is a very welcome update. Google play music sounds much better and a lot of the core issues I had have been fixed. The latest bugs I have noticed are with Android Pay and I don't know if my sim card died but I am having issues receiving texts on T-mobile. The only Way I know I am receiving Texts is through the Digits Beta Program.
thanks for the heads up!

How long will the Nexus 6P be supported? Should I get 6P or something else?

Hello everyone,
since the Nexus 6 isn't getting any updates from google anymore, I wonder how long the 6P will get updates?
I need a new phone and not sure if 6P is still a good choice ?

EOL for 5X and 6P is currently September 2017. This may or may not be extended. Development will continue long past then.
Whether it is a good choice depends on what kind of deal you can get on a new device. Would not advise buying a refurb.
I would expect the 6P to at least get Android O. Every Nexus device gets at least two major updates. So far we've only had one, so there should still be one left.
My friend, we are on XDA!
Nexus 6P will be supported till the end of the time!
Yep, this badboy device and XDA will continue rocking...
The N6 is still getting updates from google but only through maintenance/monthly security updates.
Past Nexus devices generally received incremental updates for 2 years with security updates long after. Whatever happens to the N6, we could expect for the 6P.

I have a 6p and while ROMs like Lineage and other aosp based roms give hope I am bailing from the 6p ship. The more popular roms have devs that no longer even have the device and are making many more updates to Pixel and V20. You have far to many popular roms that have not been updated since December or early January. The 6p is a bad ass phone though, if anything I'd keep it stock and rooted and just ride it like that for a daily driver until something else comes out. My old LG G2 has better commitment per ROM than this 6p, hell even my Samsung Tab Pro 8.4 still has devs updating roms. I don't see that happening with some of these stock based roms. It was reason I got rid of my Nexus 9.

The Feb patch caused problems for many people with Substratum no longer working, extreme battery drain and wonky kernel settings--and if you fix the settings they don't survive a reboot. That may be why some roms aren't updated to the Feb patch. The rom I use was but a lot of people ended up returning to the January build.

I wouldn't buy a 6P at this point even new because too many people have to RMA their phones because of the boot loop of death. And people are now reporting when they send in their phones they are getting back beat up refurbs with lots of visible wear and tear. You are better off buying something else.
I wouldn't bother. 6P was a fantastic phone but it's being abondended by Google. 7.1.2 beta isn't even out for it! The XDA forum for the 6P is getting quieter and quieter too. My 6P got the dreaded battery shutdown issue. Battery wasn't lasting anywhere near a day of medium usage.
Go for the pixel If you can afford it or get the one plus 3T which is what I'm using now.

Honor 8 Long-Term Update: How's it holding up?

The Honor 8 has been out for about 10 months now and can now be purchased for $299 from the Honor website. So let's see how this phone holds up and if it's still worth the money.
Updates
The Honor 8 was early to the Nougat scene and has been updated regularly. The stock firmware is currently on Android 7.0 with EMUI 5.0. This has the Honor 8 easily keeping up with its competitors when it comes to updates.
Development
There are several regularly updated ROMs for the Honor 8 that will bring you up to Android 7.1.2. This phone can be rooted with SuperSU while running nougat, and the bootloader can be unlocked easily. So as far as development goes, the community has not let us down.
Specs
Seeing as how the Honor 8 is now a $300 phone, the specs hold up just fine and sometimes easily surpass other phones in this price range. The 4GB of RAM is what most flagship phones are launching with today. The 1080p screen is still plenty usable with no complaints from me. The camera has aged well, still being a lot of fun to use with all of the camera modes on this device. The Hisilicon Kirin 950 processor keeps this phone running plenty fast.
Durability
Who else cracked the back of their phone? Other than that, it's still in once piece. Parts are easy to find on ebay and they're very cheap. This is something that I usually look at when buying a new phone.
Accessories
There were never really a great selection of cases to choose from for the Honor 8. Seems there's still a very slim selection or low quality cases for this device.
Overall this phone holds up nicely. I'd say if it were $400 it would be too expensive. $299 seems like a really fair price for this phone to be going at right now. You can usually find it even lower than that on some other websites.
Just give us EMUI 5 KERNEL source code and we'll be happy customers
I'm afraid you'll find many that would argue that development has NOT been great with this device. Still a great phone though...
How much did Honor pay you for this post?

At the risk of piling on to an innocent person, I too thought the OP looked like a press release from Huawei. Interestingly enough, I made a similar post about how the Honor 8 needs a better reputation just a few hours earlier in this same forum. So maybe I'm getting what I asked for? :victory:
Imho the Honor 8 is not a bad phone hardware wise, It's just seems like they spend more on PR than actual development and updates. His statement about updates is laughable at best.

That will blow if the honor 8 doesn't get Android O. I got another one on sale and have high hopes for this device
Okay, I broke the back glass. Paid $40 to get it repaired.
About the software updates, the US version is doing poorly. Security patches are not delivered monthly. We stayed at a very early patch for a very long time. About the O update, this device should get it. They should at least provide two major Android updates. One was Nougat and the next has to be O.

Only this community of phone nerds cares about monthly security patches. There isn't a company outside of Google that can realistically maintain that level of software support for their entire device portfolio. 2 major OS updates is the most we should realistically expect from Honor or any company. Anything else on top of that is just icing on the cake.
My girlfriend's Huwei P8 receives security patches every two months at least, one just received some days ago with July security patches. So i don't understand why we are not getting them...however, i agree with PuffDaddy_d. I would prefer to have Android O instead monthly security updates

I'm pretty sure you know it haven't it. Don't have to be ironic, just understand what i mean to say. Having Nougat doean't mean delay in security patch updatea, but if you're ok with this, perfect. However i told i don't care about them too much.
does anybody regret getting the honor 8? i'm debating between it and the pixel (for 2x the price).

OP5 is currently the sweet spot.

Right, I know it's early but.... Android 8...do you think we'll get it

Right people.
Just to start the discussion...do you think we'll get Android 8 Oreo on the AXON 7 Mini? I'd hope we will...it's a darn longshot...but who knows
Whats your thoughts people
I don't think so but I really hope Android O gets to the Axon 7 Mini.

Don't expect a quick update, but I do believe the Axon 7 mini and Axon 7 will get an upgrade to Android 8 Oreo, as they are ZTE's flagship phones for now.

It took us long enough to try and get Nougat! It would be nice, but don't hold your breath.
Dear ZTE customer,
Sorry, there would be no plan for new AXON phone lately. But, don't worry, I will send your wish to our engineer.
Thanks!
I haven't got Nougat yet, for god's sake! I tried manual update but it failed. I have to wait for OTA update, IF it ever arrives here in Finland :/
I personally don't think the mini will see 8.0 Oreo. The regular Axon 7 might. The mini just never sold well and I've yet to figure out why. I love nine. It's built extremely well and high premium. The speakers are amazing. To be honest I think it's priced so low that most people think it's garbage and therefore not worth it. That's the only reason this phone isn't flying off the shelf. There is no other reasonable explanation.

I think the same too. I was amazed when I unboxed my mini. I love this phone. And as for an official release we may not see one. However I'd be happy to settle with a custom rom of oreo

The update for Oreo is already being worked on. Just like the Nougat update, there will be a closed beta. I don't have time frames available to me yet, but rest assured, it's coming. And no, I won't reveal my source(s), I'm bound by an NDA.

The odds of that happening are extremely slim, as Android nougat came out more than a year after its initial release. Also most flagship phones are only supported for 2 years, let alone a mid-range phone.
Found this article.
I don't really know if it is true, but i still have hope.
