Didn't want to start a new one but were screwed - Verizon Note 7 Guides, News, & Discussion

Ok so many different forums started... I'm leaving my rant here.. Haven't read all these and I'm not...I'm on phone right now with Verizon as I'm writing this... I ordered the s7 edge to replace my note 7. She said
(1)Samsung is going to send out an update to disable our notes.
(2) when you trade in your device your locked into a 2 year contract. The 1 year upgrade Samsung doesn't apply to us.. She said that it only applied to new devices... She said that the note 7 is being played add if it never existed. So I asked well my phone is cracked on the back I can go through insurance and get a s7 and keep my upgrade. She said no assurion is acting like the phone doesn't exist also.. What about the money I paid into the insurance.. She said today should be refunded also back to you.
So in saying this. Buy the phone you want for the next 2 years, make sure the refund you also your insurance money. I don't know what I'm going to do or get now... As I told her if the phone never existed I would still have my note 4.. Not locked into a 2 year contract for a inferior phone

That's why Verizon and Samsung can kiss my ass. I'm not downgrading to make them happy. I'll take. My chances. Something happens, I'll buy a Note 4. Screw them. The Verizon people are clueless idiots anyway. You ask 10 of them, you get 10 different answers.

Call back, you will get a different answer. If you don't like that one, go to Chat and get a different one again.
Like this one. "There will be no further updates to the Note 7" then.... "Samsung will send an Update to disable all Note 7's".
heh heh heh....

If you block updates then this isn't an issue but the carriers may disable the IME#. Normally if an IME is disabled the phone doesn't immediately stop working, it can just no longer be activated.

Ha, well I've been ignoring the green battery update for a while now, and I'll continue to ignore it. I cancelled my order for the S7 Edge even though the clueless Verizon tech told me that upgrade wouldn't be held against me and I'd still be able to upgrade anytime if something I like comes out. I'm not green enough to fall for that one Big Red! Taking my chances also, until the next Note drops or something similar.

Yep. If an IMEI is blocked your phone gets "suspended". It's like you didn't pay your bill. This is a bad situation for every Note 7 user out there... Very disappointed but hopefull for a killer lineup next year

Killer line up that I'm not eligible for until the year after lol

Is there a deadline to return the note 7 and get your money back? I'd like to keep it until the s8 or new note comes out but worried they will charge me in full for it.

I just got done discussing the whole deal with a manager. Told me that all Notes must be returned or we'll see a charge for the full amount in our next bill. Take it for what it's worth. I wouldn't put anything past these a$$ clowns.

Like we've been saying talk to 10 different reps, get 10 different answers. I'm not sure they can do that, if you haven't broken anything. Recall or not.

Hey, it's something. But I don't recall anyone's data catching fire. Besides, the real injuries were suffered having to deal with the phone swap....twice. But looking on the bright side I suppose $2.67 is nuthin' to sneeze at. That is, for the lawyers because they can multiply it by 2 million.

I actually called them, to get in on it lol...But waiting to hear back from them to see if they can put in an addendum to add the carriers. About locking is into another 2 year contract.. Now if that could be achieved it would be worth it

Hope it works out for you. I know there will be other lawsuits in the future. One's that may yield a bigger settlement to us users.
It's pretty typical for members of a class action suit to have to agree not to hold Samsung accountable in the future when the suit is settled. This mean any subsequent suits are not able to be brought by the members that signed on to the last one.

Oh I'm not signing up to be in lawsuit.. Just wanting to give more ammo..I mean you're right..About more lawsuits, but the next one and the one after that will use the info from the previous litigation I assume
Sent from my SM-G935V using Tapatalk

If Verizon tries to charge me for a device they willingly erased all charges for they be facing a class action lawsuit. This recall is also voluntary. Samsung had to put the recall out, but we don't have to participate. Verizon just wants us to, to clean things up on their end. I don't foresee them being allowed to charge us for something they dismissed. People don't participate in recalls all the time. They don't repossess or pull car notes if the owner doesn't participate.

Where does it say in the text message from Verizon that this is voluntary.. Everything I see from Verizon said this is mandatory..ok I'm wrong. Samsung is saying it's a voluntary recall, but if you call Verizon they say it's mandatory... And they will be turning off phones.

I must be the Unluckiest Person

I ordered my Nexus 6 on Motorola on 11/6. It finally ships on 11/29. I ordered a 64GB Cloud White. Moto sent me a 32GB Cloud White on 12/2. I'm trying to understand how this happened. The box says 64gb, the packing list says 64gb, the internal storage of the phone shows 23Gb total space left. Bootloader shows 32gb Variant. Contacted Motorola on chat and the rep just basically said sorry about this give me your number and email and someone will call you...then proceeds to exit the chat promptly. Still waiting for that call.
Damn, Homie.
My heart goes out to you.

The thing is I do not think I will receive a replacement. I'm debating weather to keep waiting or just call them tomorrow. Its as if they have monkeys packaging and shipping these devices.

Doubt they are actual simians, but I'm sure they are some poor bastards getting paid slave wages in China to do it. If they thought they could use an actual monkey and increase their profits they would be working around the clock on ways to implement it.
I'm sure they will get this sorted out for you, however.
I would refuse to send the 32gb back until I received the correct device. Even if they had to put a hold on a card for them to ship me the correct one and I return the other. If they didn't bend over backwards, I'd contact my credit card company and see what they can do about it. That's just me though.

Does the IMEI of the phone match the IMEI on the box? If it does you should have zero issue getting it swapped out.
If it doesn't then you might have a problem proving your case...

I would think that would be more than enough proof they screwed up the phone during manufacturing.
A few people had this issue. Use Fastboot to fully wipe the phone and then re-install the Factory image. Some phones had an odd partition issue and showed just 1/2 data.

None here in TN just yet (outskirts of Nashville) . Called Best Buy where I got mine, rep told me they have VZW units in, but can't do the swaps yet. And they're still waiting on AT&T units. Some garble about Samsung and the carriers have to work something out between eachother and I'll receive a call or email when I'm able to come in and swap.

Well, the thing is, Samsung HAS fixed it. It's now being delayed due to 3rd party involvement.
Samsung has the phones fixed, but we and the carriers can't get them now due to CPSC takeover. I'm not sure what the CPSC does exactly, but I'm guessing that they now need to make sure that the fixed phone's don't have any potential problems too. I read that they will need to make sure that the problem is actually just contained to the batteries, and that by changing the battery, there isnt still a risk factor.
Personally, I'm not really whining about it too much. What I'm a little frustrated about is the fact that I can't swap my phone out NOW and im getting all these messages like, "Power down your phone NOW." I can't afford to go without my phone (it's my only line of communication in the case of an emergency, for work, and for personal use. I don't have a land line or another cell phone), so I need to be able to swap my phone for another right on the spot, or to have a replacement sent to me and me send the old one back (charge me if I don't or whatever). I also can't really go for an S7 Edge either because I use my S-pen daily for work, and because swapping between my Note7->temp phone->new Note7 would just be too much of a hassle with all my files and stuff. The only other reason im not running scared to an AT&T store to do a temp swap is because my phone feels fine.
Long story short, this whole thing has just become annoying. I'm not mad about it all, nor at Samsung. And yeah, as some have pointed out elsewhere, this would be a whole lot better if Samsung had put in removable batteries. Lol. (And yes, the phone could still be waterproof with a removable battery. The S5 was).
Anyways, back on topic I guess. Lol

I returned my 2 Note 7's to Best Buy, and when I went to get a "loaner" from 3 different ATT stores - 2 said that it was impossible, 1 told me to buy an iPhone. So, thats that.. but the problem is one of the Note 7's was part of a BOGO and they would't take it off of my account, so it is now costing me $45 a month(30 for phone 15 for access). The main Note 7 has been taken off so my monthly access fee for that line has went back up to $40 from $15. All in all I don't have a phone and I'm paying $70 more a month. If you return your phone, make sure everything is straightened out before you leave.
The stores will likely get stock soon, but they will not be able to sell them until cleared with CPSC which will take at least until the end of the month.

They're defying AT&T's official recall policy:
https://www.att.com/esupport/article.html#!/wireless/KM1122948
I would suggest that you speak with an online AT&T chat rep. The ones I spoke to said AT&T would intervene on the customer's behalf if any retail store refused to abide by the official policy. (In my case, intervention was unnecessary because the AT&T store provided a loaner S7 Edge without needing to be persuaded.)

Nope. I purchased my AT&T Note 7 from Best Buy as well. AT&T did instruct me to return it to Best Buy, which I did. But then AT&T said to go over to a nearby AT&T store to get the interim S7 Edge. So I did that too, and it went very smoothly.

I spent an hour with a CSR at ATT and they told me no matter where the phone was purchased ATT locations are supposed to give a loaner device. I'm still not sure what loaner means.. Buy a new phone with option to return later or just get a phone added to the account for a while with the intention of returning it, for free.

Verizon Note 7 Recall Procedures [Discussion]

Hey All!
I started this thread as I saw one similar for Amazon but wanted an area to discuss the recall specifically from Verizon as I have heard many different things and little information is available online as well as it keeps changing.
1st DiscussionI had:
I broke my Note 7 the same day Samsung announced the recall. Of course Verizonor Samsung reps were not helpful at all this day.
2nd Discusion:
A few days later I called Samsung and discussed what was going on and all they could say was to go through my carrier to see what procedures they have in place but they are taking them back in ANY condition.
3rd Discussion:
Called Verizon store and they said I couldexchange it or return it but had to be before Sept. 30th. I advised I think I was past due so he said i needed to be current. Ihad a rough chat after this as I explained I got a recalled device but they wont have replacement Note 7s by that time and if I return my phone I wont have one to use and the next best thing being the S7 Edge which I traded in my S7 for the Note 7 sowhy the heck would I go back to my original device that I owned and have to pay installments on it? I said this is all depending I can get current prior tothe 30th. He basically said good luck and that was that.
4th Discussion:
Same day I immediately called customer care and they toldmesimilar but turns out I wasonly 12$ past due smh.
5th Discussion:
Same day went down to the store and paid the 12$. Thinking I had no choice, Iexchanged my broken Note 7 for aNew S7 Edge. I was told once I exchanged it that was it and I cannot get the Note 7 when they recieve replacements. I told the lady I had no choice and made the switch.
6th Discussion:
Today I called customer care to make a payment and figured I would ask about the Note 7 again. This rep proceeds to tell me that even though I exchanged it for another device, I CAN STILL change it again for the Note 7 once available. She stated that the store rep advised incorrectly and that might have been the case at that moment in time but they have internal links and documents stores can reference saying we will replace it for all original Note 7 users regardless if they already exchanged it. So essentially she is saying I exchanged my original Note 7 for a new S7 Edge and can exchange it again for a new Note 7 once available.
I have read others being advised differently so post below your experiences and any related links or documents confirming my last discussion or call them yourselves and share what they advise to you!
I really hope I can get a Note 7 once available again as that is the phone I wanted and originally purchased but initial associates forced me to exchange by making it seem there was no other option on top of a strict deadline with 0 idea when new ones would be available.
She also said it would b3 possible to complete over the phone once they have replacement devices availablesoIcanavoid the storealtogether
just went into the store forsome accessories nasked again and he told me if i wanted the Note 7 I wouldve had towait that the rep over the phone was lying lol

Should of told him he was lying and to do his damn job.
I exchanged my Note 7 for an HTC 10 on Monday 9/12, the lady that helped me told me that i could go back and exchange the HTC 10 for a replacement Note 7 once they get them in stock. She said it would be one to two weeks and that i would have to keep checking in to see if they had them in, there was no wait list or anything like that.
But you're right, the in-store people mostly don't know. i had gone the day before, Sunday 9/11, and the person i talked to that day told me that i would have to hold onto my original Note 7 till they got replacements, that they weren't doing any exchanges.

But you're right, the in-store people mostly don't know. i had gone the day before, Sunday 9/11, and the person i talked to that day told me that i would have to hold onto my original Note 7 till they got replacements, that they weren't doing any exchanges.

yea man, theyre ridiculous for sure lol i am diggin the s7 edge but would definitely like to get the Note 7 back once in.. it wasnt our fault they recalled the device lol i am hoping when they get them in stock that i can just deal over customer service instead of the store.. he seemed oblivious still at the whole process.

Thing is how many were sold in Canada and they said up to 22,000 by end of month.
from what i have been reading on verizon forums I do believe you need to exchange your N7 for another device before Sept. 30th and once new N7 devices are available you can switch back.. ive been told this over the phone and many others onthe forums.. you can ONLY switch your exhanged "loaner" device for another N7 of course..
i really hope this is true and wish Verizon would post this process publicly if so
I just got an email from Samsung that retail outlets should have replacements by 9/21. Can't wait to dump this Verizon loaner.

on phon3 with vzw tryna see if i can still exchange it, she dont know so contacting another dept to find out.. such a pita
That's for sure the case and they can jerk you around all they want but it will happen. When I exchanged my Note for the HTC 10 they didn't have a list or anything but I made it clear in no uncertain terms I'd be dumping it on their counter for a Note 7 the day they returned. They completely agreed but there was no system in place. They were confused despite there being others there doing the same. Just check in every day do they have it? Show up with your phone. Problems? Keep asking to speak to a manager. You're not going to get answers ahead of time because they just don't know.

after an hour n 20min., she called the store and then in their policies it clearly states we can exchange n7 for another "interim" device and back to the n7 when available.
you can even trade the interim device for another non n7 but in that situation it would be a restocking fee.
she clearly documented my account with the store rep and their managers nameand all the details. I also recorded the entire conversation this time.
she also said vzw is supposed to notify us when they have them no later than the 21st but i surely will call them every day lol
luckily she called my store so when i go in i have names and documentation on my account.
the interim phone does need to be in good shape so dont damage your "loaner" lol
Nice. I have my loaner in a box, I hated it. I only kept it so I wouldn't get jerked around getting my 7 back. I do not believe they will call us, every news report said Verizon won't have a replacement for everyone on first pass and knowing them they will sell them to new customers too. I'm sure they had the largest initial sell through.

hopefully everyones buyin the Apples lol. i broke my initial n7 so best believe i bought a glass protector and a otterbox defender for my interim s7e just in case lmao
They still have no idea when they will be in. Could be up to a month is what she told me on phone despite Samsung's email. This whole experience has become so frustrating, maybe a different phone is the right idea. I had a moment of madness where I thought I'd go get the 7Plus to spite...myself? Ugh.

Is the 2nd Recall Official?

So there have been announcement from Samsung related to stopping the production of the Note 7, but I have not seen anything official calling for a recall.
Has the CPSC launched an official recall?
Has Samsung said anything more than that we should stop using the device and return it if we can?
I am holding out for the official recall, as of right now Samsung is not even offering a bill credit for returning the device. The first go around they offered $25. I went to AT&T yesterday and they said they would take the device back, but there would not be another bill credit.
Just curious if there has been an official recall or process for receiving a refund for the device. I figured we could also use this thread as a place to track the options once the recall is made official.
Not official but att and as far as I know all other carriers take it back no questions asked.
They added original and replacement devices to the http://www.samsung.com/us/note7recall/ so I would assume both returns will prompt a 25 credit by the carrier or third party gift card.

from what ATT told me.... that to get the 25 credit, i had to chose another samsung phone to replace my note 7 I had returned, and also I had to eat the 20.00 upgrade fee too, ATT would`t refund that, only the first Next payment I had paid.
From ATT website:
Customers with a recalled Galaxy Note7 may select a Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 edge, or Galaxy S7 active or any other smartphone, and may also return any Note7 accessories. If a customer chooses another Samsung device, he or she will receive a bill credit of $25 per device within 1-2 bill cycles.

Depends on who you get to talk to at AT&T. I got the $20 access charge waived from att for my replacement. This time I'm returning it and using my wife's iPhone 6+ until I get the iPhone 7+ 256gb I ordered. I think it's time for an OS change. I have never used an iPhone before so this will be fun.

yeah I thought about change to Iphone 7+, I got one for my wife for wedding anniversary present, and I played with the zoom camera takes really nice pics, but she has had some issues with hers, and it might have to get a replacement, sometimes when try to wake it up with the home button, it sometimes it takes few tries to get it to wake up, and taking pics the camera will just close with out touching anything, and she has had it lock up few times and just sit there and is not responsive at all, shes not power user, so who know`s, and when it happens........ she said i should have just keep my iphone 6+:silly:
I'm going to miss you guys D:
I want to hold out but can't help but worry about when or where it will burst into flames…. It's stressful I tell ya.. Lol. I don't want an s7 edge had it the first recall and didn't like it only one that even close is the. LG V20 but doesn't come out till the 24th or so…… so I'm just at a loss on what to do.

Seeing as there isn't anything out that I feel compares to the Note7 I bought a used nexus6. Had one before and liked being able to root and rom it to make it the way I want. It will work till something else comes out.

yeah I`m think about getting OP3 again, I had one right before I bought the Note7 and really liked it so that`s probably were I`ll go back too. when ever OP get them back in stock.
I think im just going to keep using my N5. If rumors are true the S8 should be good (if it doesn't explode lol) and they are going to bump up the release date to Feb next year. Ill tell you this much though, its going to have to be amazing and Samsung better offer a deal to those of us that had to deal with this n7 fiasco.
If not this is the last Samsung ill use/buy

Gave mine up to Att today. Back on my OP3. I actually liked the note 7 too. Usually a nexus guy.
I actually haven't received a text from ATT about returning my note 7 like I did the first time.

AT&T Free Msg: Samsung and the Consumer Product Safety Commission strongly recommend that you power off and stop using your recalled or recently exchanged Samsung Galaxy Note7 immediately due to fire safety issues that have been reported. Please return your Note7 and accessories to the place you purchased for an exchange. For more details go to att.com/note7

Forced to return phone - Samsung blocking IMEI's

Got a box saying that I need to return the phone within 7 days or I have to pay the full price. I got the box on 10/4 but barley received it yesterday...so I'm way past my 7 days. My EIP says 1,600 (from the 1st note and now this note) but my monthly bill still says that I'm paying monthly for the phone as usual. I then told the representative that I talked to over the phone and she asked the higher ups about if me having to return the phone was mandatory. She said that Samsung had told them that they're going to end up blocking the IMEI's and that I'd end up with the brick phone. I was afraid that they would block the IMEI's but it looks like they're finally going to do it...so just giving ya'll a heads up. As much as I want to keep this phone because of my short term memory and the ability to take notes on the fly...I can't

Yeah I understand :/ and I got it from T-Mobile. I got both of my Note 7's (replacement and current) device at a T-Mobile store. The box is from T-Mobile because it says T-Mobile discounts on the box and inside it has the paper that says if I don't return it days I'll have to pay a fee*. The star then redirected me in small letters saying that the fee is equal to T_Mobile's cost to replace the device. In other words, the $900. I didn't even contact them though, that's the thing. They have it written there that I called about having to send it in and that I was going to keep it, it was fine, and that I can still take advantage of returning the phone and getting my money back when I want to upgrade. So that's why I wasn't worried. But now with Samsung blocking the IMEI's, I have no choice in the matter.

If you got at a tmobile store, why are they having you ship it back? On both my original note 7 and the replacement one, I dropped off in a tmobile store. The first one I had pre-ordered online from tmobile, the replacement I picked up at a tmobile store when that wave of replacements was in stock.

It could be a new policy in place. I know I just dropped of mine as well. If it is indeed a new policy, I do not think it is a good one.

You should pay your monthly bill regularly, lol. I called tmobile and also read some horror stories. The bill WILL catch up. I told the lady I dont have 500 dollar sitting around to fork up in one bill, she laughed. I told her I am being serious. She said I should pay my monthly bill as I normally do and that in the next bill or two the system will catch up and I do not have to worry about paying a huge bill at once. Mine was at -1000 something, when I got my new bill it was at 240? Mind you, I did not pay my previous bill due to all this non sense...so TWO bill came out to be 240 and I knew that was not the case. My previous bill was about 190 and I knew my new bill is DEFINITELY not at 50 dollars lol. I am on family plan

I've tried arguing with several reps that I want to hold out until the S8 comes out but they won't let me do it. So I'm considering throwing it on a 0% interest credit card and waiting until the s8 or next Note or until Samsung bricks it (this is assuming I'd still be able to return it when either happens). Ugh this whole situation just sucks ?.

Hmmmm, I haven't seen anywhere that anybody is forced to return their Note 7 and I've been monitoring the situation pretty closely. I do know that once you start the exchange process, that phone's IMEI will be blocked. Now, I know when talking to T-Mobile reps you must take what they say with a grain of salt, but when I was last there, (Oct 27th) I was told that there was no time limit as of yet to return the Note 7. Samsung's site still says the recall is 'voluntary'.
Hello to all, I also plan on riding the wave out. I hope they don't kill it, so I haven't reached out to T-Mo or Sammy. Just hanging on to my phone and continuing to enjoy every bit of it. I have also disabled upgrades using Package Disabler Pro or something to that effect.

Anybody got an .apk for the un-updated version of Package Disabler Pro? The devs on the Playstore are working with Samsung to prevent us from blocking system updates. I just found out T-Mobile updates are going out tomorrow 11/5 to limit us to 60% battery, it will turn from green to grey! My Package Disabler already updated and all System updates are removed! I'd suggest some of you check right away!
