Help with rooting - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
I am a noob so be gentle
I have a SM-G900F running Android 6.0.1 and I want to root it.
I don't want a custom rom or anything, I just want to root it so I can edit platform.xml to allow sd card access and then probably unroot it again so I can use my banking app that won't work on a rooted phone.
An idiots guide to root/unroot would be very helpful
Thanks

Just wanted to toss this one out there, use Kingo root, (When that is done and you try to update SU binary, it fails right from the get-go.) update SuperSU by chainfire in the Play Store, open SuperSU and update binaries. rooted and done.
BUT FOR THE LOVE OF GOD I CAN'T GET TWRP TO INSTALL WITHOUT A SOFT-BRICK. I guess I'm going through terminal emulator -.-

Factory reset is not necessary to root your device, serach in XDA for guide how to root.

1. U can unroot. And in the future if u flash stock firmware, root will be gone too.
2. Rooting won't delete any files. It will just open root access and inject supersu.
3. Triangle away I never used. But u can just read its thread. If written a support for ur device, means can. BUT, triangle away won't reset ur knox status.

[Q] Sprint S5 Cwm No pc?

If I have rooted my sprint S5 with towel root is there a tutorial on installing a custom ROM (specifically with the intention of unlocking the Hotspot feature) without a pc?

Not sure about installing Roms with towel root and not tripping Knox, but you could always just unzip the hotspot mod and put the services files in place manually.
so I can just add the files as long as I'm rooted and it will work?
It should, there are directions posted by someone in the hotspots thread on one of the later pages

Rooting issue Note 4

Guys,
I rooted my note 4 N910G using CF root method.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/note...-root-t2897428
When I open xmod and other root apps, its asking for root access and its granted. But those apps are asking me to root again.
Means those apps are acting like my phone is not rooted..
Not able to install viper in stock ROM.
May I know the best rooting method for our N910G?
I don't want to install custom ROM because I'm not getting more than 3 hrs SOT.
Thanks.

You need to install a modified kernel in order to properly root your phone.

The only things you loose by rooting is Samsung Pay and Android Pay and yes rooting will trip knox and knox will no longer work.
After you root the fingerprint feature will work fine, & s health will work fine too just be sure to remove your fingerprint prior to rooting.
Also be sure to enable the usb debugging and make sure that the OEM unlock is ENABLED in settings
before you root and before flashing anything that requires odin like a new firmware or twrp recovery.
Good luck,
Have a great day!

The way I rooted was I used the odin flash-able twrp, noverity-opt-encrypt and supersu method (not the cf-autoroot method).
You only need 4 files to successfully root your phone.
Odin3 is a windows application, odin flash-able twrp, noverity-opt-encrypt and supersu which is flashed using twrp.
Those 4 files are all you need to successfully root your phone.
Yes, I would advise anyone to root their phones that want their phone to have a lot
more new features and customizations and the ability to flash different custom roms.
If you are 100% satisfied with your phone as it is now and don't want or need
new features, options and customizations I would advise not to root the phone.
It's up to you.
Good luck,
Have a great day!
I Really Appreciate Your Help Bro
Thank You And Have A Nice Day
