2nd Screen back light bleed like the V10? Screen ghosting/burn? - LG V20 Questions & Answers

Hello, now that the Note 7 is dead the V20 is my best option here. I am worried about back light bleed from the 2nd screen and screen ghosting on the V20 I Had very bad screen ghosting with the V10 especially when playing games. I would even get screen ghosting while being on the home screen the status bar and navigation keys would ghost into the display for a long time. I always had my brightness below 20% and this still happened. Does anyone think these issues will be present with the V20?

As an educated guess I don't think it's going to be an issue, but we really won't know until people get their hands on these awesome devices...

cant remember who, but a reviewer on youtube running the preproduction model said there was light bleed from the second screen and around the bottom as well. who knows.

I just watched it about 30 mins ago. It's the Android Headlines "LG V20 Full Review." Hopefully just some preproduction units have that issue...

I have a production North American unit, I see a very very slight light bleed on the top left of the screen. Doesn't bother me and only saw it when I looked for it.

Do you see screen burn/ghosting when playing a game for a extended period of time?

no ghosting after running a few benchmarks back to back, reboot, run again on my new v20.
I concur with the V10 screen issue, my v10 has really bad ghosting
I do have slight bleeding in the second screen lower left corner (only visible in a dark room though) on my v20

I was looking for some info what it might be that im starting to notice as apps change maybe we can chime in now that it been a year. I forsure get ghosting from my home screen to others and back. Yes there is definite bleed from the second screen. I just ran the LCD test and during a few of the color test i see my status bar and the out line from the calendar app i use as a home page. I keep my screen on all the time and run about 50% brightness with the comfort view on high.

[Q] Light Bleed? Common issue? Faulty?

Hi,
I have just received my Asus TF today, and I absolutely love it!
However I have just noticed that in the middle of the screen @ the very bottom the light is slightly bleeding out (ie there is a lighter spot on the black bar).
Its just right above the docking point.
Is this a common issue / design, or is mine faulty?
Sorry, its probably a completely stupid question, but I just want to figure out if I should be asking for a new one....
It's a common issue, you're not alone.
Some of us have returned TF's with light bleed, while others accept it.
If you just have one section at the bottom, keep it. Mine had four different areas of bleed.
I have light bleeding but only noticeable when showing pure full screen black picture in a dark room. So its not really a big deal for me ( I guess nothing is perfect). However, I wonder if others have worse.
I have some light bleed at the bottom of my screen in 3 different areas. Its not too bad and i can only see it on a black screen. Its better ecer since i put the sceen on auto brightness
this problem will exist with LG ips screen. :O
Got my replacement from BestBuy today, Original had one bad light bleed and 3 smaller ones. Also had a dead pixel in the middle of the screen.
New one has small light bleed in lower corner, hardly noticeable and no dead pixels.
Now I just need to pick a ROM to put on ;-)

No. No it will not. LG IPS panels do not even have backlights; not inherently, anyway.
I hate when people blame light bleed on IPS. It's not the IPS technology, it's the poor quality edge-lighting

Yes, that's probably true. Asus might be responsible for the backlight, or they may have bought it from yet another third party, but it's probably LG's.
Mine has very small ribboning of light at the bottom of the screen, would have never noticed in normal use. I checked my Ipad that I have had for a year and its exactly the same and in the same place, never noticed till I looked for it. Possibly all tablets have LB to some extent if its not noticible in every day use its only a problem if it bothers you looking at a black screen in a dark room

Not all tablets have lightbleed.
Most do, though, because of the form factor basically requiring edge-lit backlights, which are very tempermental
I just received mine yesterday & don't seem to have any light bleed. That is unless I don't know what I am looking for.
My only real issue seems to be with the power button. I have to push it 2 or 3 time for my transformer to wake up.
I have the same issue, 2 spots at the top of the screen. I don't think I ever see it though unless the display is entirely black or at least very dark. If it were much worse I'd consider getting a replacement, however from what I've read on the subject it doesn't seem to get (significantly) worse over time under normal conditions, however excess strain may worsen the effect. Thankfully the TF101 seems pretty solid so I don't think its going to be much of an issue.
Mine has it in about three or four places too, I don't really care about it though.
Sadly I just noticed two spots in the middle of my screen that are white. I do not think it is light bleed but I have already issued a RMA with NCIX on this.
I noticed that it is an issue on Amazon as well....according to this review.
http://www.amazon.com/review/R21G1E2O7DUE83/ref=cm_srch_res_rtr_alt_1
Dammit.
Ah well. Will RMA it and if that fails will get a refund and get a Acer Iconia instead.

Dark patch on screen

Has anybody else noticed a dark patch on the edge of their screen? Along the top side of my screen, I can see it going off white when browsing a website in portrait mode for example.
It's like the back light isn't working properly there or something. Anybody else got this, should I get a replacement?
It's not hugely visible but it's noticeable on a white screen at any brightness level
Idk, it's up to you. I have light bleed in my right hand corner that is always visible, unless your in a well lit room on 0% brightness. I can't decide whether or not I want to send mine back though because of how common these backlighting issues seem to be.
Yeah. Mine is flawless otherwise. Its so barely noticeable I think I'll just get used to it.
Same ha ha, other people can't even spot it when i point it out to them on auto-brightness.
Yes, I noticed mine right away, but like others have said, its hardly noticeable. It doesn't bother me at all...

Same thing here. Most noticeable on a solid white background. I'm starting to think it's not a lighting problem but something to do with the way the panel is manufactured. If I hold the tablet in landscape so it's perpendicular to my face with my eyes lined up with the camera, the brightness is even across the panel. As soon as I tilt the bottom towards me, the brightness falls along the top edge. Makes it seem more like a viewing angle issue related to the way the layers are assembled or maybe a difference in pressure on the panel along that edge.
I decided to live with it because it's very rare that I have an app running in full screen that puts a light background across that area.
Same issue for me as well

I had the same issue with my first unit, did RMA and got second one. Second one had the exact same issue. Finally decided to get refund. The play store customer support said that there were few people reporting it already. This might be a design issue as well- the way device is tapered differently at the edges(backlight might not be aligned properly), two strong magnets near camera etc. Just speculating.
Dark patch here too. RMA process underway. 1/3 of screen has yellow tint. Noticeable when reading on white background. Annoyance.

Keep us posted on the replacement device!
Same problem here. I received my Nexus 10 yesterday and notice dimming primarily (exclusively?) along the long edges. While reading a web page with a white background in portrait mode I found myself wondering if chrome was adding a gradient to the edges for some stylistic effect, but realized that made no sense. I observed the same problem with Firefox, and then I installed a screen testing app and observed the dimming with a solid white screen.
It sounds like this is probably a manufacturing/design error. Now I have to decide whether it's worth the rigmarole of exchanging the device, probably to no effect. I guess this is the risk you take when purchasing a device sight-unseen.
If you bought it from a store it would still be unseen, since it would be in the box. I had the same problem with the iPad 3. It took me three exchanges to get one with an acceptable screen. All of them had dark, blotchy, yellow patches. By all accounts it's due to the adhesive glue they use. We shall see what the replacement brings. Order is currently at the 'pending' stage.
I also have this on my screen. Right side when in portrait mode. You can't see it in landscape, which is weird. My wife and I have decided to keep it, though, as everything else about it is perfect. Plus, this defect, if you want to call it that, does not detract from our enjoyment and uses.

To clarify, I meant that I'd never had the opportunity to use *any* Nexus 10 in person. Had I done so, and noticed the dim edge, it would have at least raised the possibility that there was a design or manufacturing issue.
Speaking of which, I examined an in-store Nook HD+ display unit yesterday and what do you know: it had the same dim edge issue.
By the way, where did you hear about the adhesive glue explanation?

Mine has--I assume--the same dimness along the entire length starting about 1/4" from the bezel along the "top" camera edge. It is actually somewhat distracting when reading a book in portrait mode. If I flip the screen around so that the dimness is on the left edge, for some reason I find it much less annoying. Unsure if this is a warranty replacement issue though. I haven't found another Nexus10 to see in person yet.

It was all over the iPad forums when the iPad3 came out. Plenty of people with dodgy screens. Some reported success in leaving brightness turned up to max and plugged in for 24hrs etc to dry. But may have been placebo. It could also be an entirely different cause other than adhesive. After all, what do I know? In any case, mine's heading back, but the replacement is still stuck on 'pending'
I had a rare bit of luck. Somebody sat next to me on the bus yesterday evening and pulled out an oddly familiar black tablet. I explained the problem I was having and asked if I could examine his Nexus 10. His device had a perfect display, with no detectable dimming near the edges. So the issue appears to be a manufacturing defect, not a design flaw, and something that could in principle be solved with a replacement unit.
I called Google last night and have my RMA email. I'll ship it off this weekend.

[Q] Do you have Light bleed on the bottom of your Screen?

Do you have the well described light bleed on the bottom of your screen (7 brighter spots) at low brightness?
Whether you do or do not I am curious to know what your serial number date is.
I.e. are the 1st 3 digits 311 or 312.....
Someone suggested this was fixed on newer batches of these tablets and am curious if the newer serial numbers are showing the same issue.
311, got bleed. Don't care tho.

Yes but only with a white background at that edge and when the tablet is at less than 20% brightness. If it is a darker background or the tablet is above 20% brightness I have no bleed that I can see. In fact, I never noticed it in regular use until I looked for it in order to reply to your thread. So obviously it does not bother me. SN 311.

Thanks. My purpose is not to get people bothered. I am more thing to establish 2 things. First that unlike light bleed which is random this its a near universallyrics described flaw out limitation of this device and going and returning it for am exchange is likely fruitless. Keep it if you like it or move on. I have chosen to keep mine.
Secondly to seeif there is a pattern to those that claim not you'll have this issue. One person in another post started his first twist had it but the replacement with a newer serial number did not.

Part of the reason I never noticed it is that I have my on-screen buttons as black so any bleed would never be visible for me in portrait mode. Also, the only time I ever have my brightness that low is at night when reading my kindle app in bed and I use the white text on black background for that so bleed would also never show up in that situation.

309 Here and yes I have the bleed but it doesn't bother me because most of the time my black nav buttons are there. Only really noticeable when you have only white.
The only bleed I have is when when brightness is jacked up and the background is dark. It goes a bit lighter in the corner but no worse than my nexus 7.

So what this means, is that the lack of the light bleed at the bottom of the screen that so many of us have is not necessarily related to do the month of manufacture. Somebody had suggested that models with serial 312 and higher were made sense that have not exhibited the same problem.
One thing I have noticed, is that I can lower the brightness on this tablet to a much lower level than any other smartphone or tablet. It is possible that is why we see those 7 lights at the bottom. It probably has to do with the fact that the overall screen brightness is so low that they become visible. Ordinarily on a different tablet it probably doesn't reach brightness level that low where more artifacts in the screen becomes viewable

This is a great thread and to tell you the truth if you havent began this one i would very soon began one similar. Here is my observations:
My first one was with 7 bright lights on the bottom vissible on white screen(do you tests with an apk thats free from Google playstore called "Backlight bleed apk", its free) from a 35% brightness and lower. It was annoying and second, much more important, for the money i gave to LG i want the product to be of high quality and tested by their technicians very thoughtfully before launching it. So i return it as a DOA. The second one had no 7 bright spots on the bottom but it had a yellow line on the top(under the Lg sign) that was very obvious with a white background (from 60% brightness and up). This one went also back as a DOA. The third one has again 7 bright spots on the bottom but its noticeable with 20% and below. All 3 devices are 311. Its quite a shame that this device with such good specs has such bad screen problems. I thing LG had a wonderfull idea with this tab but hurried to get it to the market.
Does someone with 312 have simmilar problems?

Ingesting and unrelated.
Here are my chronicles:
1st G pad: white 310 serial. Had both regular and 7 light bleed. Had not readabout this issue before returned it.
2nd G pad: Black don't recall serial. Good build quality no light bleed but 7 light issue. Now aware this is a common problem. Decide to exchange and go to best buy inspect 2 others (sales person let me setup 3 tablets and look best I could for issues. All 3 had the 7 light thing so figured this must just be a characteristic of the lcd they use in this tablet. So took home
3rd Gpad white w 11 build which in store I thought was better than the 2nd for the 7 light issue.
For Home was wrong and based on what I have read and my assessment I was resigned to the fact that they would all be this way and was going to keep. At this point I stated this thread after reading about some people who did not have this issue, one of them having a December or 312 build which I have been unable to find anywhere.
The build quality was bad in this replacement however. The edges of the tablet were sharp with a seam the others didn't have. Less than 1 day later the bottom right of the tablet must have been lose as depending on how I gripped it, it would creak and pop as if the plastic was coming off and snapping back.
At this point I decided I would return as a defect and got
G pad 4: white 310 build.
Was similar to second tab in buildwith almost no light bleed but had the 7 light issueand also felt the lower right part of screen at edge of bezel felt it had some give. I am now fed up and neuroticabout all this add I am in vacation in the USA and we don't yet have these in Canada.
Wanted to settle it. Found one other best but that head in store stock and it was rainy so I said last try to get at least one with only the 7 light issue.
Picked up a black one. 310 serial.
Took it home knowing that I'd it was no good I would say screw it and get ipad mini.
This one is nearly perfect.
Even at 0 the 7 lights are almost invisible. I have to look for them as I know they should be there. There is just a bit of traditional light bleed visible at 100% brightness in a dark room and in dark room I am rarely above 40%. Build quality is great and screen doesn't have any significant yellow cast.
I love it!!!!
From all my craziness I have discovered a few things that might explain the issues with this tablet.
1) 7light issue is there in every tablet. It is the way the lcd back lights work. The reason I and others likely have a tablet that doesn't exhibit it is due to something else. Brightness of the screen. By this I mean that all the tablets that have the 7 light issue can be dimmed incredibly low at the 0 setting.
Much lower than an ipad other tablet or my Samsung note 3.
My best screen seems noticeably brighter at lowest brightness. When reading an ebook at lowest brightness with white wiring on Black background the text is brighter in this one. So it could be that my 0 brightness calibration of the screen is closer to a 20 on one of the screens exhibiting the 7 light issue.
2) White tablet shows fewer finer prints if that is an issue but the metal black back is sweet!
3)With the voice Siri like app you can have option to enable or disable it listening for a hot word to activate it. With mine turned off my standby battery life is great even with 3 email accounts (1a push exchange account) going. We are taking 1% every 4-6 hours. This is much better than every tablet I have hadand my phone. This in spite of wifi on during sleep.
4) In spite of my issues of which in retrospect I would have been fine with my first 2 tablets and my current one I love this tablet.
It is a much better size than the lost nexus 7 2013 it replaced. Having expandable storage Ada much needed versatility. It does not win in any one category like an ipad or Nexus might but it hits all my desires from stereo speakersto God look to nice screen to great ergonomics.

311, have the light bleed. thought of exchanging it because it somewhat bothers me when I'm web surfing at night in landscape, but I figured out it doesn't worth the effort becuae probably most of the other slates have this problem too. I was right.
I think we should all be a little bit less perfectionists about our tablet, and give more thought to the good things at the tablet + focus on more important issues in our lives (At least I know I should )
I would like to buy G Pad but before ordering it in online store (Poland) I sent them a message asking for checking some G Pads randomly. The result is shocking: first 10 G Pads have light bleed at the bottom of the screen. After that they decided to check all tablets in stock. It turned out that all of them (> 50) have light bleed at the bottom of the screen. Product manager told me that they will contact with distributor of LG in Poland requesting clarification on that issue and they want to return all G Pads and replace them with good ones.
Will let you know how things will go on.

I have stud I think this is less a defect and more a characteristic of this screen technology. Based on the unit I now which does not have it I can say that mine does not get as dim at 0 percent brightness. Could be like with all LCD tech that below a certain brightness things like this are visible. It is a trade off in that you are getting a screen that can go dimmer but with those lights visible.
Sent from my LG-V500 using Tapatalk
I'm on S/N 311 and I got no bleed at the bottom, but at higher brightness I got a pretty serious bleed at the top left corner, that's left of the LG Logo. I don't notice it normally but when I use the tablet in landscape that spot is covered by the black software key bar, making it stand somewhat out. I'm not gonna get it replaced, I played that game with my SGS-II back in 2011, you ARE going to find something else on the new unit cause you'll have gone in nitpicky mode.
Besides at this price, which is one third of what I paid for my Note 3 on launch day, you can allow a tiny few beauty marks.
Exchanged a black gpad because of a 0.5 inch yellow line at the top of the screen. Don't know the serial number unfortunately.
Got a 312 now as replacement. This has the light bleed at the bottom as well. But I have not seen any of the other issues like the blue line or the issue above. The bleed is noticable, but I might keep it anyway because most of the time i use it in portrait at high brightness....

Nexus 9: Lightbleed Thread

Hey,
Thought we could have a thread to document Light bleed and how it varies between device (apparently).
Here's a potato quality version of mine: http://imgur.com/YzFs4uy
It's not too bad but I can notice it on dark screens particularly the bottom left corner and top right. Wondered if it's worth RMA'ing or if this is similar to what people have on theirs. If it's bad by the average then I'll return.
Just thought this could be a useful resource.
Wow, that's bad! Mine is barely notable, only on the top it is visible of the status bar is colored.
I've just started the RMA process for my Nexus 9 because of the light bleeding right across the whole top edge of the display (and because I can't increase the volume on it without digging a nail into the button!).
I though I could ignore it but with the way all the material design apps colour in the status bar they status bar looked like it was always a gradient as opposed to a solid block colour.
I was in two minds whether or not to RMA it or not but came to the conclusion that if I went today to trade it in at a shop (for money or in part exchange for another product) with the condition of the screen and the button I wouldn't even get the a top trade in value for it even though it's only 2 days old.
I'm hoping that the unit that gets sent out to me is in a much better condition.

Mind posting a photo? Didn't think mine was that bad really? Think the potato quality might make it worse.

How was it in comparison to my picture? Not sure if to RMA or not?
There is already a thread in the help section with quite a few pics and posts of people with light bleed.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-9/help/notice-light-bleed-t2927824
So like everyone else has notice, I have some light bleed as well, but I don't notice it unless I load a black wallpaper. I am not sure if I will return it or nor as I don't usually run a black black wallpaper.

Hey,
Thought we could have a thread to document Light bleed and how it varies between device (apparently).

Mine looks virtually the same as yours. One big patch of light bleed on the upper right (viewing in portrait mode) and 2 small patches along the lower corners. I'm on a White 32gb.
My advice is return for an exchange or RMA'ing, whichever you think is faster.
If bought locally, exchanging is the way to go.
I found a video on Youtube of someone claiming that his doesn't have lightbleed: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QrT0GAaPgoQ
Take this video with a grain of salt though because I think the camera he is using is on VERY low exposure to the point where you can't see the backlight.
Am I the only person without lightbleeds?

Maybe. I don't think i've seen an example of one without.
Lightbleeds are most noticeable on a black or very dark screen. You got a picture you can show us of your tablet?

Looks to me your a minority ? my 2nd unit comes this morning, see how I get on with that ?
I saw on reddit that several people are mentioning that this problem only exists on the White model. Any truth to this?

No, a fair few people with Black versions also complained.
I think I'm going to return mine, frustrating but for the money it shouldn't be hard to not have this non-uniform lightbleed
This is ridiculous.
I have the white 32gb btw
Mine seems barely noticeable so there is hope for those that want to do an RMA.

You RMA'ing?
Looking at the pics I'm glad mine isn't nearly as bad..there's one bottom left corner on my white 32 that has slight bleed but nothing like the ones you all have posted...
I have 32Gb white, but I don't see any extensive light bleeding on my unit, nor wobbling back panel... I'm extensively using my device for past 24 hours, watched video, news, web browsing, and haven't noticed any issues with extensive light bleeding. I'm not even noticing anything like on the pictures from previous posters.

Yes sir. Just drop it off at ups office. I'll get one later, I'm hoping it's just this initial batch that's detective.
Do we/you think we going to have this issue on 4G/LTE version of the Nexus 9, because I'm thinking of buying either the Nexus 9 or the nVidia Shield Tablet 4G/LTE

Backlight bleed can be worse than you think

My Z5p suffers from backlight bleed, mostly from the top. It is something I could live with, until I noticed something terrible during its "Optimizing apps" when it was rebooting. I could see a white light coming from under the top bezel. It is only visible from a certain angle and can not be seen when looking at the screen directly. I tested this afterwards on every background and picture I had, still visible. I immediately sent it for service.
The latest report said that they could not replicate the issue, so I sent them a sh*tload of pictures showing the problem. They still have not answered. I will keep updating this thread until this issue has been resolved.
Sorry for the bad quality on the pictures, taken with my sh*tty camera on Oneplus One

All the phones I still have and had is LCD, not one of them has/had this amount of bleeding like my Z5p, not even my Oneplus One (does not have it at all) with its sh*tty quality control they had when I bought it (August 2014). If you had read more thorough, the first thing I stated before was that I could live with backlight bleed, but not when I noticed the white light coming from beneath the bezel.
I don't think thats particularly bad.... check out my Surface Pro 4 screen bleed.

Your backlight bleed seems to be much worse when looking at the screen head on. Have you tried tilting the device and checked to see if the bleed comes from beneath the bezel deeper inside? It is a white light on full brightness no matter what brightness the phone is on. It reminds me of when the bezel of a phone shatters and light constantly shines through the cracks.
It's nothing new to me, my Xperia S and Z1 have the same issue since day one.

Yes, it's because the backlight doesn't shut off when you get in standby mode.

Sounds like a problem that should be fixed if you ask me
