Custom Recovery
Hi,
I've recently been trying to port this device to AOSP 6.0/CM 13, and so far the best I have is a system that freezes at the Samsung splash screen. I am working on building TWRP as well, so I'll get back to this forum if I make any substantial progress in the effort.

I started a new thread here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/grand-prime/general/rom-started-g530w-cm-12-1-custom-rom-t3422180
There you can find a link to a working CyanogenMod recovery image. It's nothing amazing like twrp, but it'll do the bare minimum without crashing (like the TWRP for G530H does on this device).
I also started compiling a custom rom, working somewhat. Again, all there on the link.

Is it possible to install Android 9 or higher on a Moto G4 (NOT Plus) phone? Or would it require specific system requirements?

Hello XDA members,
First a disclosure, I'm a complete noob when it comes to Android OS & installation.
Having said that, I have an "unrooted" Moto G4 phone (XT1624 model) with Android 7.0. This model was not eligible for Oreo update & now some of the popular apps like Amazon shopping has stopped working since they require a minimum Android 8.0 to work. I was wondering if I could root this phone (5 years old phone so already out of warranty) & install any stable higher Android OS like 8,, 9, 10 etc. My questions are:
1. Does installing higher OS require specific system requirements or any phone with 2 GB RAM capable of working any OS?
2. Is it advisable to install in gradation like 7.0 to 8.1 to 9 to 10 ? What technical problems could I face if, say, I install Android 10 directly from Android 7.0?
3. What latest Android OS you guys think should work smoothly on this phone?
Current System details:
OS: Android 7.0
Security Patch level: 1 April 2018
Build Number: NPJS25.93-14-18
RAM: 2 GB
Chipset: Qualcomm MSM8952 Snapdragon 617
CPU: Octa-core (4x1.5 GHz Cortex-A53 & 4x1.2 GHz Cortex-A53
GPU: Adreno 405
Thank you for reading. Any help & advice will be very much appreciated.
I recommend the latest official 8.1 for G4plus, look at XDA for TWRP-athene-OPJ28.111-22-1.zip
MD5 d975f6c08c222fea74b12f31d5280c7e
You can also get Android 10 unofficial for example with arrow os, but it has some minor bugs.
Always do a clean flash means wipe everything in TWRP first
PS: Regarding OS G4 Athene and G4Plus are the same
