Redmi Note 4 first impressions - Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 Guides, News, & Discussion

Have used the phone for a week now. My impressions so far:
- The build quality and overall design is great (especially the 2.5d glas). A huge improvement compared to Redmi Note 3.
- The quality of the volume and power buttons has also improve a lot compared to Redmi Note 3 Pro.
- Very fast and fluid experience in general. Similar to Redmi Note 3. Pro.
- Battery life is slightly worse compared to Redmi Note 3 Pro but still good.
- Call quality is very good (in my experience slightly better compared to Redmi Note 3 Pro).
- Both the official global rom and china developer rom has some issues (battery drain, some lag etc). The weekly rom from xiaomi.eu is however great.
- The camera is very fast but the image quality is quite poor. I have compared photos from Note 4 with Nexus 6 and the Nexus is clearly superior across the board. I have to say that the camera performance is worse than expected, hopefully Xiaomi will optimize the camera software in the future.

Is it worth too keep this phone? (Considering change for LG G4)

Hello guys, I have just bought this phone, my first Xiaomi device, I bought it because of the price, design, battery and performance, but there's a really big fact for me to consider, THE CAMERA.
A friend of mine has a Redmi Note 3 Pro, so I could have a reference point about MI devices before buying it, I really had a good taste of it, the camera looked good, also the screen did.
But my surprise (for bad) was that the Redmi 4 Prime camera's really poor! especially indoors or low light conditions, the selfie camera also sucks, it lacks a lot from light. I have researched a little bit more and found that the cameras on the Redmi Note 3 Pro are different from the 4 Prime (a bad desition in my opinion).
My question is: Is the Redmi 4 Prime camera that bad (hardware issue) or it could be a matter of software (maybe trying another ROM) btw, I have tried another camera apps and still the same.
Even if the camera quality issues are software, I don't expect Xiaomi to solve them any time soon.
Anyway, the G4 is definitely not a good phone: the battery lasts like 4 hours of SoT at most, the build quality is lacklustre, and in general performance day to day performance is worse than the R4P. Also, the most important thing: LG used a cheap soldering material on the G4 (and the V10, and apparently also the V20) that wears down over time, and causes the phone to bootloop after more or less a year of use.
You should consider the Moto G5 Plus, if you want a decent camera for a low(ish) price.
Most midrange phone will produce ranging from bad to mediocre photo in a low light situation. I don't know about Moto G5 Plus, haven't read any good review or even own a unit of it. Never expect a low to midrange phone camera to compete in flagship camera competition. And yes, indeed, Redmi Note series, most of the time, have better cameras than non-Note series.

Everyone still using this as their daily driver?

I just busted the screen and looking for an alternative.
The Xiaomi Note Redmi 4X while only being 5.5inches and an IPS screen, has roughly the same spec and I can get it for around 150USD at the moment.
Any other recommendations as I think I want a phone I can manage more easily in public.
I'll still use the Honor Note 8 at home for streaming videos and such as the cracks aren't luckily on the viewable area.
Xiaomi Mi Max or Mi Max 2
For long battery life Lenovo P2
Redmi Note 4X is enough for daily use, been superb in battery life here, especially if you have rooted and unlocked bootloader. Check our XDA Redmi Note 4 Snapdragon section, very large community and many devs supports, so much ROM you can choose. So much supports you can rely on if you like customizing things.
But if you have a little more budget you can take Lenovo P2, same specs but better display (AMOLED), Gorilla Glass, Battery monster and support fast charging. It's very reliable phone for daily use I think
Cheers guys, 4X looks solid as a budget phone and the P2 looks great with the extra battery and better screen. Just need to figure out if those features are worth double the price.
Just bought the Redmi 4X MTK 4GB version...
Quite dissapointed compared to the Honor Note 8 even though they are roughly the same gen spec.
Performance: Redmi lags opening a variety of apps, Note 8 is still snappy since the day I bought it
Interface: MIUI has no multi-browser support, seems clunky and lacking in options, EMUI is comprehensive and feature rich
Bluetooth: Redmi disconnects on occasion, Note 8 has never
Battery: Redmi drains from 100% to 0% in 8-9hours!, Note 8 lasts 24hours+ - 4100mAh vs 4500mAh, no comparison
Heat: Redmi sitting at 42C, Note 8 at 32C while both are charging, Redmi feels hot even when screen is off, Note 8 always seems cool
I'm looking to get my Note 8 screen fixed and sell the 4X. Only thing I like is the black on black and smaller foot print. Everything, and I mean everything else is better on the Honor Note 8.
The Redmi Note 4X has a Snapdraon 625 - are you sure it is a Mediatek SoC (i.e. the Helio X20), as this should only be present in the Chinese Note 4?
I have owned both the Helio X20 Note 4, Redmi Note 4X SD625 and Redmi Note 4 Global SD625 and battery life has been above average (X20) to fantastic (SD625) on these devices.

redmi note 6 pro

Is the note a upgrade or downgrade from the le pro 3?
Personally I consider it a downgrade. Perhaps camera is better (although GCam in Le Pro 3 rocks) and lower and newer processor means better battery life, but in general terms it can't beat Le Pro 3.
A sidegrade at best. Better cam, better battery life, slower cpu, much worse GPU, worse build quality, worse connectivity (micro usb in 2018?!)

I've got a Mi 6x so basically the same phone. Again it's a sidegrade from the Le Pro3. It's not really that much different from the Redmi Note 6 really, it just has a slightly more powerful CPU and a smaller battery and USB-C.

I really like the a2 but the 3000mah is a deal breaker plus i really love miui
Some youtube reviewer put the Le Pro 3 (with custom rom) up against the Redmi Note 5 Pro:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h0Jj0mPyZTc
Surprisingly the S820 with UFS 2.0 storage couldn't beat the newer S636 with just slower EMMC, despite using a custom rom on the Leeco vs MIUI on the Redmi.
On top of that, the Redmi Notes have a microSD slot, 3.5mm headphone jack and a significantly better battery life. I've also not been able to get rid of the fluctuating cell signal strength and noticably high input lag on my Le Pro 3 (x722/Elite).
So unless you're into gaming, the Redmi is a better choice. The build quality is likely better on the Le Pro 3. But I'd go with the Pocophone or Mi 8 Lite atm, they're more expensive than the Redmi Note 5/6 but better value imho.

I wonder what a custom it is. This movie without selecting a good custom on le pro 3 is unreliable.

I agree.
The Rom was Pixel Experience June 2018 around the time that Gabronog was doing blind updates due to his phone being bricked or damaged. I was using that Rom around that time and although that Rom was great overall.
That time period wasn't the best of what the PIXEL rom could be. If I remember correctly in June 2018, AICP and Lineage were the best performers and Miui 9 had the best battery life.
I can say this with some confidence since I have kept a record of stats for all the Roms that I have used since early June 2018.

Comparisons with Poco F1

Any real world comparisons? Value for money?
I am undecided with the poco f1 and redmi note 7. Battery and camera are my main priorities. I dont think I can justify the extra £££ for Tue pocophone?
Honestly you will definitely get better life with the redmi note 7 because the chip is more inclined towards power efficiency rather than performance. Now the pocofone must have a lot of development by now so maybe if you are into installing roms you might find one that gives you much better battery life than stock.
Cameras pocofone wins, but it's not day and night difference. Redmi note 7 still pushes hard.
These were taken with my redmi note 7 today/yesterday. I have gcam and stock, Gcam is slightly better in low light, and Much better with video recording in 1080p.

Should I upgrade from Samsung?

I currently own a Samsung S10+. Previously I had Oneplus 6. I moved to Samsung as it had a better camera.
How does it fair when compared to flagships from Samsung(in the camera department)?
I don't intend to buy another Samsung phone(I don't like the software and miss the snappy oneplus).
One more thing is that I feel it is a rather quick change of phones like just after one year.
Should I buy OP8pro?
if camera is important for you you should be looking at p40 pro, find x2 pro (sister company of oneplus), mi 10 pro.
i will recommend oneplus 8 pro if overall value for the money and also if your only option for samsung is exynos.
but if only s20 ultra snapdragon is available in my country i will stick with that to be honest. i sold my s20 ultra exynos and now i have oneplus 8 pro no regrets.
I switched from Note 10+ because I don't need s-pen so much. And OP8 Pro feels a lot smoother, like ....a lot. Animations from Samsung One UI looks good on s20 with 120hz, on 60Hz screen it feels laggy.
Some comprasion:
- Camera, identical for me
- battery the same but with 120hz
- software faster an lighter, but One UI is ok too.
- fingerprint scanner - my God, it's enormous difference
- face scan about 2 times faster and with higher angle
- snapdragon is far way better than exynos, no doubt
- speakers seems to be good on both
- haptics are different than Samsung's, but feels premium too.
I'm really satisfied with OP8 Pro and for me it's best Android phone so far. Maybe p40 has better camera but the difference is really tiny, you should compare them screen to screen to see the difference.
In my opinion OnePlus did fantastic job this year.
