Huawei Mate 8 : Everything We Know

Huawei a chinese smartphone maker is focussing now on premium segment market with its new launch huawei mate 8 with its launch at CES 2016 which is initially launched at 30 countries including Germany , France, Emirates .

Design
The front of the phone comes in a brushed metal finish which appeals a lot at first sight with huawei branding at the bottom of screen . The mate 8 features a 6.2 inches touchscreen and a finger print sensor at the back under the camera . Over all finish of the phone is upmarket and is sleek . On the right side there are just 2 buttons one is the power button and other is the volume rocker button . The charging dock section is similar to iPhone 6s and the Samsung Galaxy s7 . The mate 8 is offered in 4 colors (champagne gold, moonlight silver , space grey and mocha brown )

The phone features a 6.2 inches screen with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels and pixel density of 368 per inch . The screen is IPS -NEO LCD capacitive touchscreen with 16m colours . Gorilla glass 4 comes into play for protection of screen . The phone’s dimension is (6.19 x 3.17 x 0.31) inches .

BATTERY
The huawei mate 8 has a battery of 4000 mah which is non removable and which provides a stand by time of 528 (3g) h and music play of 98 hours .
Camera
Camera is a strong point for this phone . Primary camera is 16 MP sony sourced with features like smile detection , panorama , HDR , Geo tagging , touch focus , auto focus , phase detection , OIS , and an aperture of f(2.0) . The front facing camera is 8 MP which outclasses most of its rivals.

The mate 8 has a long list of features including Bluetooth 4.2 , NFC , OTG support , FM , dual sim (both nano ) and sensors like fingerprint , proximity , accelerometer , ambient light sensor , gyroscope etc . The mate 8 has dual sim option out of which one supports 4g (band 40 ) and other supports 3g in India .
Verdict
The mate 8 with its hefty price tag (expected to be near about 43,000 for 3gb RAM version) has direct rivals like iPhone 6s and Samsung s7 edge . The mate 8 has plus points of like long list of features and elegant looks which makes it sensible to buy over the others

camera is best !! i love this phone's camera

You should consult a doctor for your eyes.
Edit : The hardware is good, but the way how the software use it is pretty bad. Everytime I have to inscrease sharpness, contrast etc with photoshop to make descent pictures with this phone. I didn't have to do that with my LG G3.

You must have a custom made Mate 8 with a better camera. And apparently a bigger screen as well.
That might explain things. The rest of us have a mediocre camera and a smaller screen.

I understand your point of view. After all, if you like your device, that's the most important. But in comparison with some lastest flagship made by LG or Sammy, the Mate 8 camera pics are really %*^!*ù$^:!. I'm thinking to sell my device coz of this (I miss my bricked lg g3).

Huawei Mate 9 Might be released in september to compete with Iphone 7

Some rumors about Mate 9,
It only starts in 2 months about Huawei P9 smartphone release, Huawei can’t wait to the next flagship, Huawei Mate 9. Earlier before, Huawei Mate 9 has leaked to feature HiSilicon Kirin 960 chipset with dual camera. It’s most exciting that they will launch Huawei Mate 9 in September, 2016 same month with Iphone 7. It seems a hot war will start.
It’s known that Kirin 955 chipset has not released so long just in 2 months in Huawei P9 smartphone, Huawei announce its next chipset, Hisilicone Kirin 960. Kirin 960 is composed of Artemis quad core+ A53 quad core ,Artemis belongs to ARM core architecture, a new generation whose performance is ahead of the current top-of-the-line A72 architecture. Kirin 960 is integrated with Mali-T880 MP8 GPU, LTE Cat.12, 16nm process. In addition, Huawei Mate 9 will have dual curve screen, two 20MP back cameras, which is the first dual back camera top smartphones. It’s said Huawei mate 9 will use its own OS. But we are not sure if it’s true.
It’s said Huawei Mate 9 will support Google Daydream VR. In May, Google starts I/O 2016 conference, in order to speed up Smartphone VR, Google release Daydream VR platform. And Huawei has joined this platform and plans to release the phone VR that can support Google Daydream, So we guess it will be Huawei Mate 9. And it will have at least 2k screen resolution according to Google Daydream.
As for Huawei mate 9 price, and other configuration, we still have no idea, so will this smartphone use its own Hisilicon OS and support VR headset. Just wait until September.

help switching to p10 plus

Hello everybody i have mate 9 pro and i was thinking to upgrade to p10 plus , but is it Worth it? The shop said they will buy the mate 9 pro from me for 705$ and the p10 plus costs 684$ so can someone help me to decide?

What perceived benefit do you think you'll get? Apart from microSD I can't see anything... (slightly better camera maybe)

No. Wait for Mate 10 with its Kirin 970. P10 plus definitely not an upgrade to Mate 9 pro which has larger battery and curved Amoled screen. And from the pricing as well, Mate 9 pro is considered by Huawei themselves as more higher range than P10 plus.

A good chance of seeing another 5.5 inch Mate 10pro to compete with Iphone 8 plus and other 5.5inch category phones. Unless Huawei pulls off a bezel less and the screen size become less relevant. Too early to tell. Also rumors of Honor 9 being released in a 5.5inch version in addition to the 5.1inch, in which case it would have a lot similar specs to P10 series but in a different body and cheaper price tag. But with owning a Mate 9 pro, a proper upgrade will be in Mate 10 series which will have the new Kirin 970.

Can't tell you if better than your previous phone only just upgraded from Sony Z3.... Yes I said that right I came from Z3 to the p10+. The camera is better, the internal memory 128gb is better, having Nougat straight out the box is better Z3 was left at early realise of mm, having finger Id is new to me.
The touch screen is a little unresponsive someone's I need touch screen 2 or 3 times before it acknowledges the touch.
The only major downside is I'm unable to root, which up to now all phones I've rooted.
I'm impressed by the phone and battery life, I've had phone for just over 2wks.

It's not really an upgrade, more of a side grade. I've switched from the regular Mate 9 to the p10 plus. Battery life is worse but camera is slightly better especially in low light.

Honor 8 pro FASTER than OnePlus 5?

The processor Kirin 960 doesn't outperform Snapdragon 835 in benchmarks but who cares about benchmarks in 2017 the real life performance of Honor 8 pro seems to be just smooth even while gaming and other stuff and their is a plus point that the Kirin 960 processor doesn't seem to get overheated while playing heavy games unlike Snapdragon 835 in OnePlus 5 so I'd feel to opt or prefer the underrated Honor 8 pro or Honor 6X or Honor 9 against OnePlus 5 considering the price that Honor Phones are available!

If you get your hands on honor 8 pro, please tell us how it compares against OP5

Honor 8 pro is no slouch in terms of performance. It's a real flagship in performance. You can keep 20 or maybe more apps open at the same time. I have tried with 10 and none of the apps closed abruptly.

And I don't even understand those speed tests comparing two smart phones together. I mean who is gonna compare them in real life. No one uses a stopwatch to calculate the time.
People get mad if one phone manages to open some app 2 seconds earlier and crown it as the king. Come on.[emoji23]

Well, you're damn right
All the flagships these days open apps fast enough, for me, the only criteria for choosing a smartphone would be how good the development is for it

I was a rom freak. I loved customising my phone a lot with all the features. I am using a custom skin for the first time and I am absolutely not missing any feature from custom rom (except maybe double tap to sleep and wake).
And so, I am not feeling the need to root this device. The performance out of the box is exceptional.

I completely disagree with that.
Honor 8 pro has a bigger and higher resolution screen with higher body to screen ratio.
Homor 8 pro has better chipset with larger ram and internal storage.
Honor 8 pro has a better front facing camera.
The things that could have been upgraded are -
Rear camera - Both honor 8 and honor 8 pro have cameras with same aperture (f2.2). I would have liked the aperture to be atleast 2.0 on honor 8 pro.
Amoled screen - Maybe they could have used an amoled screen
Nothing else really. I am completely OK with my Honor 8 pro. Just want 8.0 upgrade by the end of year.

The GPU on the Kirin 950 wasn't that bad. It rendered games perfectly with hardly any lag or dropped frames.

Well, I played riptide GP runs well on medium but, at max settings it lags sometime and I notice frame drops.
However it is good but not great

Honor 8 vs Nova 2 plus?

Hello all,
which of these two would you suggest?
I prefer bigger screen, but since it's only a 0.3 inch difference that's not a big deciding factor.
the most important factor for me is durability, both in terms of software (higher chance for future android updates) and hardware (build quality).
I know the SoC on honor 8 is better, but I don't play games, is the SoC on Nova 2 plus enough for web surfing, youtube, facebook, etc. ?
also battery life is very important.
(don't suggest honor 8 pro, because it's much more expensive in my country. these two are the same price)
please help me decide, i am dying here :crying: :crying:

Metal body ,best cameras f 1.8 ( pictures will be awesome),battery is good backup with 3340 mAh,new Soc have to see wheather it performs well.
Honor 8::
Premium feel , great development(custom oreo is under-desk),decent battery life.good performance,cheap.also we got 2 years policy software update.
i prefer honor 8 over nova 2 +.

If you want battery, then go with Nova 2 plus.
All I can say now is, do a list with the things you want in a phone then, see which fots your needs better

I think u should go for the Honor 8 rather than the Nova 2 Plus. Obviously it has a greater chance of getting future software updates but considering how much more expensive it is than the Honor 8 it doesn't seem to be worth the money.
It has a Kirin 6xx series processor instead of the 9xx series processor. The 6xx series is a mid ranger processor so the performance will never live up to the Honor 8. It only has A53 cores which are low power cores. Whereas the Honor 8 has both A53 and A72 which means performance will be a lot better. Even in the graphics front the Honor 8 easily outclasses it with a 4 core GPU instead of a 2 core GPU. U might see battery gains thought because of the SOC only running off of A53 cores.
About the camera it won't be a huge upgrade from the Honor 8. It has a selfie camera with 20MP which will definitely be better but in terms of rear cameras it might perform only a little better in low light because of it's f1.8 aperture.
Considering how the processor and GPU is a downgrade and how the camera is only marginally better I think I would go for the Honor 8.
But then again it depends on what u want better performance or better battery life.

We have lot of development too , i think this is the best kirin based developed phone(honor 8).
May nova 2 + is huawei , carefully select one.
