Sound too quiet, try this.

Hi all,
I've always felt that when playing music on my DHD that it's too quiet, when I've listened to music through my headphones I would say it's acceptable however when I've plugged my DHD into a HiFi or into my stereo in my car I could crank the volume to full control without it been deafening. I happen to find a fix yesterday by accident, I had my DHD plugged into my car stereo and the phone rang, I pulled the audio cable out and answered the phone, when I was done I put the cable back in and immediately I was like WTF just happened now, the music was much louder than what it was before I answered the phone, I would say it was about 30% louder.
I tested my theory by stopping the music and unplugging the cable, plugged the cable back in and started the music, while it was playing I opened the phone and simply dialled any random number and ended the call immediately, when it went back to the music it was most certainly much louder. I've tried it several times now and every time it makes it much louder than what it was before I make a call, I can now no longer turn the stereo full blast as it is simply too loud, just by turning it up to half way I would say it's the equivalent of what it was before when I had it turned up to the maximum.
I'm using Poweramp and I don't know if it's got anything to do with that, I will test it with the built in music player and see what it does. I originally downloaded Poweramp as I thought that the built in music player may be the problem.

i'll repet what you do and post some results... really want a louder volumen in headphones. I plugged my headphone in a Wildfire and it's incredible louder, no talking about an ipod! last week in a party i was ashamed when my friend put off his $50 cell phone and i plugged mine on stereo, so low volume....

wtf, that's true.. really don't understand what the phone turns on!! probably the same thing that volume boost turns on!!

Good news, it must be a software bug with the volume control.

works here too.. atleast on poweramp and soundcloud, didnt hear any difference on spotify

I found using shazzam or sound hound while music was playing caused it to go louder. Seems to be when the mic is initialised. Noticed this two days ago

Interesting find.
I've noticed a couple of ROMS which suggest better audio volume by 20%.
For example this one. (Speaker Boost +20%)
So somehow, somewhere the bug or issue has been fixed or improved.

Not really, i'm using that rom right now, and what it makes is improve SPEAKER volume, not from headphone. I made my tests in Android Revolution rom and can confirm that headphone is as quiet as stock rom, and it is improved by the "call trick"!

Thanks for sharing! I was experimenting a bit, and it seems like the simplest way to boost the volume is to make a call while music is already playing. The call MUST connect though, or the volume will revert to normal levels. Tested with Winamp.

Maybe have one of the dev's ask to look into this.
If this is different from the already increased speaker volume output, it probably is a bug that can be fixed / feature that can be 'un-featured'

I had similar experience with my laptop. When listening a mp3 file, the sound coming out from my laptop seems like no effects, standard sound without bass and treble effect. Have to play a movie file first together and stop the.movie make the song hear with the effect.
I believe this issue coming from my sound driver. Using another OS in same laptop. The sound play normally with no issue.
For our Android, it's about the sound driver too?

well well, i just noticed that in the Android Revolution 4 (leaked gingerbread based), the sound is improved by default, no needing the call workaround, looks like HTC fixed the strange bug for the next version...
i just wanted to share!

hey guys i'm new to this forum, i would appreciate if anyone could help me..
my DHD tones(just keyboard sound, lock sound, shutter sound) have came very low and i can burly hear it.. i turned all the volumes to the max but it's still very low, can anyone help me with that?

I had the same problem, go to the Market and download "Volume Ace".

I noticed sometimes my DHD volume suddenly were loud . If I restart the phone, it will go low . I couldn't find out how to make it loud again until reading your post. I'm using PowerAmp too . I think it plays a role in this case.

Really useful little trick for 2.2 users, especially for peeps using stock ROM's without the 20% boost via custom kernels. I had tried some of the volume boost type apps before rooting but all they do is invert the phase of one of the stereo channels. All this does is give you a very tinny mono output which is no use to say the least.

What Dolby Mobile REALLY does!

Hey guys! I've found out what Dolby Mobile is really good at doing. So basically I have a Logitech X540 5.1 Surroud Sound System. As you may know, any 5.1 Surround System usually has 3 wires for input:
1)For Front Left and Right Speakers
2)For Center Speaker/Subwoofer
3)For Rear Left and Right Speakers
Of course, you can use the main (green) wire for Left and Right sound. Many Surround Sound Systems feature what is known as "Matrix Mode", where you press a button and the incoming audio from a device that has only Stereo Audio (Which in our is the Desire HD) is converted into 5.1 Channel Sound! But as those of you who've tried may know, it's not that great ¬_¬
Anyways, I don't really use my computer for JUST playing music, as it heats the whole room up in under 15 minutes
So I plug my Desire HD into my Surround Sound Sytem for music since it's a GOOD music player!
So anyways, when you use headphones, and select Dolby, the sound seems a little too "Seperated" and "Wide" and Bassy right? That's what they include SRS for, listening to music through headphones. Now, what is Dolby Mobile for, you may ask? Simple! When you use Matrix mode, it converts 2 Channel Sound so that audio is output through ALL speakers. Generally speaking, it works OK...
Try this! Plug in your Desire HD, don't put on Dolby Mobile just yet and select Matrix Mode on your sound system, or a similar feature. Listen to how it sounds. Now, try the same with SRS! Sounds better, but more bass. Now, try Dolby Mobile! Sound comes through all 5 speakers LOUD and CRYSTAL CLEAR. What Dolby Mobile does is it encodes music as it is playing so that it can be recieved by a Surround System with Matrix, and thus spreads the sound out, so different instruments etc go to different speakers. Creates a really nice Surround Sound System audio from "just" a mobile phone! Try it out, and tell me guys if you notice the difference as much as I did! Oh, and turn the bass and volume up a bit while you're at it

This just got me wondering.... if HTC did such a good job at at making the music app on the DHD so good , why.... Seriously why did they did they fall so miserably short of including decent speakers on the phone itself? Even the earphones included in the box can be used better as a shoelace.

I bought DHD mainly for this reason when it was released. I have dolby in all my pcs, laptops and now in mobile. And for this reason am still neglecting in switching over to sense 3 ROM.

Or you could go to the Dolby website and actually read the data sheets about dolby mobile.

The speakers aren't really that bad, it's just the defaults that HTC have set the output to that's crap. Look for a thread in the General section called 'actually make your speaker sound good', it shows you how to manually tweak the DSP settings. I found after playing around with it for a while, I could actually get my DHD sounding quite meaty.

How do you connect your DHD to your speakers?
I have gigaworks and would love to see how my DHD sounded on these.

Connect the audio input wire that goes into your pc, to your Desire HD's headphone jack instead

You may have to, or you might not. For my speakers I had to enable Matrix Mode. I'm certain all the good sound systems have that facility, or a feature similar to that.

Found out how to make the sound from your sound systems sound even better! Download PowerAmp, and select the Dolby Mobile option within Poweramp. Also you can change the equalizer and other settings so you can fine tune the sound

[DT2] Speaker Blown

Anyone kill the speaker in theirs yet? My daughter was watching Netflix the other day, now the speaker sounds like crap, pretty sure she killed it. I'm gonna take it in to Verizon and see if I can get it (the phone) replaced.

No, but I had the original droid turbo and the speaker sounds better than the speaker on the turbo 2.
Original Turbo speaker had much more bass sound and was more balanced whereas on the turbo 2 it's mostly treble you hear like someone is pounding on cymbals with very little bass in the background.
I listen to music a lot on my phone and this is a deal breaker for me. The speaker is very tinny sounding so I am not surprised it blew up. Also, I do not know why there is only one functioning speaker of the two at the bottom of the phone. Looks like Lenovo is compromising quality on some things. Shatterproof screen but crappy speaker. I'm impressed. Not.
EDIT: Poweramp app from playstore fixes speaker quality issue. It has graphic equalizer that allows adjusting the bass and treble settings on the speaker when playing music. My music sounds much better now.

Yeah I saw the tear down, speaker is on one side, mic for the phone on the other, would have been nice if we had two. Mine sounds bad when it's ringing even, pretty sure it's blown, anyways, off to Verizon on my lunch break today.

Mine arrived like that, and there are so many different volume controls, I thought that it arrived with speaker blown as I could go t barely any volume. I urns out if you turn up the volume in accessibility and then find the hidden built in equalizer, then go through all the different audio apps and set all their volumes and their built in apps, works great, but they all interlock in some weird way. There is literally your normal sound settings, then audio effects, then some of the volume controls in accessibility need to be turned up, then you need to fix the audio and equalizer settings in both the amazon audio app and google play. Then there are 5he same settings in the mx player (good luck, I only found it once and can't again), and it has its own mp4 music player hiding in there too. Plus there are controls for sound and volume that seem separate from the rest in your moto set up area, where you set up the moto stuff, and probably in the damn devices area too, I just don't have anything to control with that, so I disabled it.
Once you get all the various volume and equalizer controls set in sync, volume works fine. Well, as fine as any phone ever has before, but I can hear my phone now, so it helped. Good luck, hwve fun, let me know when you find those two players, I need to make a note of where they are, mx player, and a music player separate from all the rest.

Dolby Atmos keeps Resetting

Here's the only problem I have with my new Axon 7:
I'm listening to Beyondpod, and I switch Dolby Atmos on and set it to Voice (I usually have it off because Poweramp sounds better with it's own DVC).
I pause Beyondpod, press play again and Atmos immediately switches to Music mode. Every. Single. Time. Every time I press pause then play, BAM straight to Music mode. What kind of bug is this?

This has happened to me with Podcast Addict, but not whenever I pause. I think it's how the Dolby Atom app is programmed. Certain apps or types of apps seem to trigger certain modes.

Yep, same random issue... Seems better since B29 (USA model), but every so often it'll reset.
I'm rooted and tried a few different "sound mods" that disabled Dolby Atmos.... I liked them, but there must be something with the A7 audio chip that throws other mods off. V4a kept losing volume and resetting to flat (even though the faders showed my settings. A few others made it distort and sound bad. So, I restored my back up and am sticking with DA for now.

Forgot to say I'm stock, B29 A2017U.
Glad it's not just me. Hopefully a patch will sort it out. I really miss Viper, but if you're having problems with it too then I'm in no rush to root to get it back!

I also have this issue... each time a new song/video is played whatever the app used, dolby resets to music preset. It seems to be another glitch of MiFavor/dolby integration. I have also posted in this thread: https: //community.zteusa.com/thread/13346 to no avail. Some moderator advised to clear all the app data, didn't work for me. So it makes dolby quite useless as for me, and the sound output of the G model isn't really its trump card to begin with. I 'm on the B05 build by the way.

Random Actions in Default Music App?

I haven't been using the default music app because randomly it does an action after a while of playback, pretty much every few minutes; back, forward, pause, whatever, it random action just randomly happens. I've wondered if I somehow accidentally used some sort of gesture or touched the screen, but it happens when the screen is off as well and there doesn't seem to be any gesture that would affect the music app anyway. Does anyone have any idea what can be causing this?
I've been using PowerAmp which doesn't seem to support the A7's DAC. I have it set to 24 bit sound in the last Alpha of PowerAmp (which was many months ago, I've given up on any update for PowerAmp ever arriving) but after side by side sample comparisons they do sound different. The problem is I'm not sure if there's a slight volume difference between programs causing that, or if it's some setting, or if it really is due to the output being done on different DACs resulting in the differences. Pocket Now's video stating it only outputs 16 bit downsampled audio has also stuck in my mind, but despite contacting them twice on different social media, they never responded. That's infuriating, making a bold statement like that, then never providing an explanation and leaving it ambiguous, never stating if the downsampling was at software level, firmware level, or anything.
So I basically have no idea what the hell is going on with the audio on this thing in any way, from software to hardware. That's incredibly frustrating considering the DAC is a major reason why I bought this phone instead of something else.
Edit: I forgot to ask, what software should I use to confirm what sort of bit rate depth the Axon 7 is outputting? I have a Sound Blaster ZxR for recording, so I can plug the A7 right into that.

I can't tell you how to test the depth of the audio coming from the cell. If you can't tell the difference is there any real point? It it just a matter of wanting the product you thought you were paying for?
For the other issue, a really simple thing you've probably done already is checking that ZTE's voice software isn't enabled for media control. An old S4 of mine would go "back" any time a sound remotely like a short "a" played.

I can tell a difference, on the default music player it sounds better, for example instruments sound more crisp and separated from the rest of the audio. The issue is that I can't tell if that perception of more crisp/separated sound is due to a slight difference of volume between programs which is difficult to perceive. Just to add to the confusion, different songs seem to have different volume levels on each player, which aren't consistent. For example song A may be louder on PowerAmp, but song B is louder on the stock player. In those cases where the songs are clearly different volumes (maybe 10% of the time) it makes it extremely difficult to tell which one sounds better to me. This is with all equalizer/Dolby settings disabled.
Humans easily mistake higher volume for "better" quality in various ways. That's really the reason for the "volume wars" or whatever it's called; music was often mastered with levels just blasting instead of balancing the audio properly.
What I was asking is what free program can I use to record audio from my phone to check if it's outputting 24 bit audio? But on that same note, yes, I suppose that would also let me directly measure volume as well.
As for the voice recognition, I'll try disabling that and see if it helps, but isn't that supposed to only work when holding down the back key anyway? Also, often when it did a random command like next or previous song, I was silent.

Hmm y somehow ZTE has volume differences. I also noticed it if i enable/disable Dolby Atmos.
But i also think that ZTE set up some DSP stuff on AK4490/61. I would be happy if there was an app which could change DSP etc settings of this DACs :/

I also noticed the fluctuating volume, for me it's via bluetooth.
It would progressively become quiet and when the next song starts it would scare the crap out of me (much louder), then repeat.
Rarely, it would continue to play randomly after I disconnect from bluetooth (not immediately after).
So it would be nice if someone found a good music player that takes advantage of the DACs and not exhibit random behavior -- alternatively if this was fixed that would also be good.
EDIT: For me, it happens in a certain volume range in the upper end. Anything lower or higher this does not happen.
