Secure Folder from note 7 - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

I had to return my replacement Note 7 due to the overheating bs, so I ended up getting the S7 edge. Was wondering if it was anyway to get the secure folder apk from the Note 7 to install on my S7 edge

Hope you enjoy your s7 edge
I would also like this if possible

Same here bro. I think it'll be part of the upgrade to 7.0 that will include Grace UX.

Maybe you can try Samsung My Knox? Not sure it will be the same (unable to test it myself at the moment)

Be patient, Nougat 7.0 will arrive in a few weeks for the S7 edge, with all the Grace UX goodies

Yeah I've been using myknox but not exactly what I'm looking for, I hated returning my N7, I guess I'll wait and see what happens. Thanks for the info

Tried myknox and secure folder on the Note 7. My opinion is secure folder is far more better, can't wait for it to come to s7

Phones are similar but kernels are not so you would brick your phone and it would not boot, you could try installing the Note 5 port for the Edge+ though

Ah makes sense ! How would I get it to run? Just changing the kernel? Note 5 has marshmallow that's why , I would like to run it

Try this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.neolanalang.edgescreen
It isn't as good as the s7 edge's but it should do the job. I purchased this app before when i had the galaxy note 5 but seen as though i have the s7 edge now, i have no use for it. It may have had updates since i used it and may also include features which the s7 edge's sidebar includes. Purchase the app and try it, if it isn't for you or does not work you can always refund it within 15 minutes of purchase on the play store.

Should I Root my S7 Edge?

Usually when i get a new phone the girst thing i do is root, but since i got my s7 edge on contract with Vodafone i havent and was wondering whats the pros and cons of rooting it. The main reason id like to root is to get some of the note 7 apps working
Sent from my SM-G935F using XDA-Developers mobile app
i second this, i've had a rooted note3 but i recently got a S7 edge and i'm wondering if i should root it.
usually i root for Youtube Adblock, Youtube background and snapprefs.
Well, in my case that was a no brainer.
Rooting allows you to:
1) Debloat the stock ROM
2) Try different ROMs bringing useful modules/features
3) Use different kernels allowing more performance, more battery life, enabling features, tweaking governors, frequencies, etc.
4) Getting the newest updates instantly. No more rollout waiting, crappy carriers holding the update, etc.
5) Possibility to install Xposed and use very useful modules
6) Using ROMs/Apps that weren't made for the S7/Edge initially
7) The community often takes care of issues/bugs withing a few days/weeks that sometimes take Samsung months to fix
Downside:
-You trip Knox. It can cause problems with the warranty
-Say bye-bye to Samsung Pay. (Not a big problem in my case, as Samsung Pay is unavailable where I live)
-Using Android Pay requires using a different root method than Chainfire's SuperSU
-Some apps will refuse to run when root is detected (Snapchat for example. Not a big loss as far as I'm concerned) without using specific tweaks/fixes
-You can **** up your phone if you don't know what you're doing, how to restore the stock ROM (Odin), etc. Documentation exists for newbies
you should so much better!
I live in Australia and samsung pay doesn't work with my bank, neither does android pay. I have to use my banks default app

Is there any hope atm that a new root method that doesn't trip knox will ever be available? I'm aching to root mine too, but I'm a bit scared about losing your warranty
When i had my note 4 it was rooted and on contract, one day it overheated and the screen didnt turn on. I took it to my vodafone shop for repairs expecting to have to pay but they sent me a new phone. Maybe i just got lucky. But i guess its easier for them to check if ur phones rooted now by just checking samsung pay to see if it works

Well that's the thing. It seems a bit like a lottery now. For some it was no issue, for other it certainly was, maybe depending on the country too
The whole reason i want to root is to get the note 7 apps and maybe later a note 7 rom, but im not sure if its worth it for a few apps

To be honest, I rolled back yesterday from a Note 7 ROM to the stock S7 ROM (Efficient). The N7 port ROMS are great, look beautiful and they can be used as a daily driver at this point, but they still have little issues that are annoying.
In my case, battery life isn't as good as what I get with Efficient ROM (based on the stock firmware)
If you have a Samsuns camera sensor, every modes now work, but the pictures look very faded, the colors look weird
I'll probably reinstall a N7 port ROM envetually, but I'll wait... still too many stuff not working as it should
I rooted my Samsung Galaxys since the Galaxy S1 but with the S7 I still haven't. I use Package Disabler Pro (works without root) to stop everything bloatish and stuff I don't use and battery life is pretty amazing (not sure if it could get any better with root). Some stuff would be nice to have (center clock + date in Statusbar for example), which only a custom ROM would offer and also adblocker really would be useful. The overall performance of the S7 Edge is great, even unrooted. Performance usually was, what a was bugging me the most, that's why I rooted, debloated, flashed kernels etc. Not really feel to do so this time.
I basically just wanted to install the grace ux launcher, the messaging app from note 7 and smart manager from note 7 but im thinking its not worth going to the trouble.

Why don't you just buy the Note 7?
Well i just got the S7 edge on a contract last year so i have a year left on my contract and in Australia the Note 7 is around $1200 so thats too expensive

questions from a Note 7 refugee

I just exchanged my incendiary AT&T Note 7 for an S7 Edge, which is also a decent phone. I'm wondering if there's a way (without rooting) to reproduce any of the following software features that I got used to on the Note 7:
Secure Folder (instead of Private Mode)
New organization/presentation of the phone's Settings
Optimization page in Settings
Custom image for always-on display
Any advice appreciated.
As of right now none of those options are available. From what I've read all those options will be available on the Nougat update. Welcome to the edge bud.

you can change the aod pic but root and xposed is required. the other options no unless there is an xposed module for them and i can not say if there is or not as im no longer rooted. welcome to the edge family btw and hope the phone treats you well, battery is awesome for me stock and all. (custom roms one day)
please when they will have the new software s7 galaxy sm-g935A
From what I have noticed they typically are releases between the 23rd and 28th of the month.

I also came from Note 7.
There is a new AOD version released today for S7 Edge and one of the changes includes the ability to set custom image.
Wish there was a way to do the sPen gif creation on the S7 Edge. Its one of the main feature I miss from the Note 7. Anyone know if there is a way to do this on the S7 Edge.

I've only had the S7 Edge for 2 days (although owned one when they first came out - it was the S7 Edge that pulled me away from the iPhone) and I am SO MISSING my Note 7. That was the best phone ever. That S-Pen GIF feature was great. I want so many of those S-Pen features which is why I went for another Note. Now we probably have to wait another year for a Note 8. I think Samsung might lose a lot of money by not getting new customers but I think the old Samsung customers (like us) will continue to purchase their products.

I am missing this feature a lot so today I ordered a Samsung Galaxy Tab A with S Pen. Has the same S Pen software on it as the N7. On sale right now too. $100.00 off so it's $249.99 US. + free shipping.

Hope this holds me over until the Note 8 comes out. Missing the N7 so much. Nothing compares for me.

S7 edge SM-G935T showing that it is high copy

I downloaded AnTuTu officer to check if the phone is original or not and i got a message saying that it is high copy, is this the case with everyone because it is the snapdragon version or this is only with me ?
The G935T only comes as a Snapdragon.
You obviously were concerned about your phone possibly being a fake, so you installed the program and ran it.
Why question the results?
Tapatalk for Android - Works awesome on my Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge
I know that it comes only with snapdragon. The phone is locked to T-mobile and it has the T-mobile boot screen so how come it is showing that it is high copy.

Maybe you post some screenshots that we can see why it is considered as fake?
change the screen resolution to the max and use it again and it will say that it is s7 edge
Xda doesnt allow me to put images or urls because i am still new user but the message i am getting is "High Copy samsung SM-G935T
Warning: The device does not match with most of the same type device."
my only explanation to this is the default/international version of s7 edge is exynos and the us version is snapdragon that's why it is showing that but can anyone confirm that? The phone looks genuine plus it is looked to T-mobile with all the default apps that T-mobile normally install it on the phone

If it is an exynos device and snapdrage rom was flashed to it, you would end up with a bricked device.
You cannot mix roms on exynos and snapdragon. The software is not compatible.
