Signal sticking - Sprint HTC 10 Questions & Answers

1st time having sprint but not my 1st HTC, me and my wife both have the HTC 10 and both our phones seem to be getting stuck on bad signals, I put us an app called radio switcher to lessen the problem, if we go into an area that has bad signal our phones will carry the 1x signal seemeingly for ever even if we go back in to lte or 3g, sometimes our phones will show no signal at all but we can use the radio switcher and choose LTE only and get 3 bars like instantly then it goes back to nothing if we put it back on auto, we have 3g almost every where here but our phones just love to hang on to 1x for some reason, hers is bone stock mines bootloader unlocked TWRP and latest viper rom

hmm, what is your location (or the general location where this happens). I have had all the htc one phones on sprint and have never dealt with anything like that. The only phone that would 3g camp that i had was the nexus 5. Send the location if you can. Also, try this, it wipes the phone but you can do it to test to see if it helps. You can reset the network config of the phone by dialing ##786#, click the menu and reset. IT will reboot into recovery to wipe since you have twrp just reboot the phone once twrp opens. It will go through the activation process. On your wifes phone i suggest doing a couple profile and prl updates.

3G signal problems with certain CIDs

Hi, I have a problem that I suspect is an isolated situation, nevertheless, it has been bugging me for over a month now. Hopefully the community will have some insight.
I will try to report the problem in it's entirety:
I do have a shortcut on my desktop to Phone Info (*#*#4636#*#*). From here, the thing I note of interest is the CID, which I guess is the tower ID that my phone is currently connected to. Also of note here are the ASUs, which I'm not quite sure what they are, but they seem to correlate with the number of bars being reported (ie more asu = more bars).
I also use Hello IM (AIM app from the market) heavily, and I have "Show notification icon" enabled, so it works fairly well as a visual indicator of connectivity, or lack thereof.
Ever since I upgraded from Super D to an Eclair rom, I've had problems with 3G handoffs on Tmo. Basically, whenever my phone switches from Edge to 3G, or one 3G tower to another 3G tower (different CID in Phone Info), the connection times out. I see the infamous "up arrow but no down arrow" activity on the 3G icon in the notification bar. This happened just about everywhere I went.
About a month ago, I decided to upgrade the phone radio, from 2.22.19.26I to 2.22.23.02. For one reason or another, this completely solved my problem. I had no problems with handoffs, 3G just started working again.
A couple weeks ago, I downloaded CM6 and tried out Froyo. The first thing I notice is the weak signal on my radio. Before flashing the rom, I did a nandroid backup, and I know I had 3 bars of 3G signal where I set the phone down. After the flash, my phone had no 3G signal, and for some reason refuses to switch to edge; so my signal indicator is sitting there with an X over it. After some time, it finally does pick up a 3G signal--this is where it begins to get weird...
My 3G works right now, for the most part. There seems to be 2 very specific locations where it does not work. As mentioned earlier, I am able to check CID's through the Phone Info menu. I notice 2 CIDs where my 3G connection times out. By time out, I mean an apparent loss of data (ping doesn't work in Phone Info). This happens every time I am connected to these 2 towers. As soon as the phone switches off to another tower, data works fine again. The strange part is, even though I am not getting data, the asu and signal bars continue to move up and down as if I have a normal signal. The phone also makes no effort to switch back to Edge, even though 3G data is completely stalled (Hello IM shows as disconnected, ping fails).
This started happening since the CM6 update, and have persisted since then. Even after I did a nandroid restore back to my previous rom (Super E 1.02), the radio problem remains. Before CM6 and after I updated my radio, I had no problem connecting to these same towers.
In a nutshell:
3G does not work when I am connected to 2 specific towers since CM6 update
Phone makes no effort to switch to other 3G towers or Edge when connected to these 2 towers
When connected to these towers, signal strength continues to go up and down as normal; usually hovers at a consistent 2 to 3 bars with the stock signal indicator (4 bars max).
Currently I have tried flashing all the Eclair roms available, as well as my old Super D rom (still using 2.22.23.02 radio). Problem remains.
Does anyone have any idea what's going on?

Signal in and out on my g2

I got my G2 a couple days ago and I must say this phone is amazing..coming from a g1 I had for 2 years its quite an improvement. The only minor problem I'm experiencing is with the radio signal..most notably in my house..on my G1 I always had signal and internet connection. Now with the G2 I constantly loose connection all through out the house and the only way to get it back is to switch the airplane mode on and off and it picks it up right away, only to go away a few minutes later..I don't seem to have the problem anywhere else.
Was wondering if any of you guys can shed some light on if there is a way for me to figure out why the signal is so random in my house and it was ok with the G1. And why airplane mode seem to fix it for a short while.

I have the same issue, I disable/enable wifi to get reception back on...I initially had really good reception but as the days went by my reception varies a lot at my house

did u activate the sim card that came with the phone or still using the old one?
I'm still using the "old" one still but considering I got it 2 months ago I wouldn't think its a big deal unless the sim that comes with the G2 is any different?

I asked because i was told to activate the new sim card to avoid issues likes the ones u seem to be having.
I was told to replace the sim card as well. After doing so there was no change in the reception of the unit. The downside is that the sim card does fine in my Vibrant but does not work at all in My Nexus One. Tried two different new sim cards and each time the Nexus One refuses tacknowledge it while the G2 and Vibrant do. I have found no difference in signal quality or strength with the new sim. The new sim card has a much smaller gold contact area and that area is a slightly different shape,
I went ahead and activated my new sim card to see if maybe it'll fix the problem..ill let you guys know how it goes

Changing the simcards will not work. If I put my simcard in my iPhone 3G or my G1, I'll have 2 or 3 bard with 3G, but with the G2, It switches up all the time, from Edge to 3G or no data at all, with 1 or 2 bars. I also have five other family members that also have T-Mobile phones and their getting about 4-5 bars on their phones. So it's not the sim or a tower issue.
There's cleary a problem with these phones.
This mourning I woke up and found the phone with no service, no bars. I reset it and came back, this afternoon I left the phone on my bed, came back to it, and again no service, it seems the service keeps going out for no reason.
Another is, I live in a big building, when walking in and out the building, my data connection will drop, or sometimes I won't even have any service, and again the only remedy is to restart the phone to get service back, airplane mode won't even fix it.
Yea the new sim hasn't really fixed anything at all..

damn i was about to try that... guess i'll keep waiting... maybe an OTA radio update will help this cause it's really getting annoying.
I don't have a problem with my G2 dropping signal completely, but I have noticed that my 3G is very spotty. It's probably because I was spoiled the the MyTouch Slide's 3G only option.
Yes, I've noticed that the signal isn't quite as good as my G1. It's seems to be about on par, if not slightly below my friend's Vibrant.
But remember, the G1's radio really sucked once upon a time. Radio updates. They will come. Every phone that has OTA updates always gets new radio, in my experience.
I'm on my 3rd G2, mostly for manipulating the purchase price, and have noticed on this 3rd one that the spring is looser than the first two, the phone resets itself and often, and I'll loose data even though it shows I'm connected. This will happen in edge or hspda. I'm taking the phone back tomorrow.
Crappy thing I just put the ZAGG complete invisi shield on it. WIll Zagg comp me another cover you think?
If only Tmobile would activate the UMA calling over wifi. This would be the perfect phone with perfect service.
I am going to call tmobile in the morning and see if I can get any word on the UMA release. If not, the phone may have to go back.
I'm having the same problem, not at my house but at a local ihop that happens to be walking distance from where I'm moving in a week. I tried a reboot, airplane mode, even pulled the sim card and nothing worked. I got signal back once I left, but since it's right by the new place I would like to not have to deal with this.

well ive been searching around and i think ive found something that could help..
if you dial *#*#4636#*#* you will get a little screen of information about your phone, go to phone information, under phone information scroll down until you see select network type, the network should be automatically set to "WCDMA preferred" ive been playing around and i set mine to GSM/CDMA auto (PRL) and since then (about an hour roughly now) i havent lost my signal or connection in the same spot i was loosing it in my house every 10 minutes or so. not sure if this fixed anything but so far so good. definately will let you guys know if it continues to be good or if it doesnt stay consistent.
heres some information also in case you dont know which one would be best for you.
WCDMA preferred - The GSM phone is capable of using both 2G and 3G data communication and when signal strength is low 3G is favored more.
GSM only - The GSM phone is capable of using only 2G data communication. When the 2G signal is too low you get nothing at all.
WCDMA only - The GSM phone is capable of using only 3G data communication. When the 3G signal is too low you get nothing at all.
GSM auto (PRL) - The GSM phone is capable of using both 2G and 3G data communication and when signal strength is low 2G is favored more. This one is a bit confusing to me since PRL is associated mostly with CDMA technology and not GSM technology.
CDMA auto (PRL) - The CDMA phone is capable of using both 2G and 3G data communication and when signal strength is low 2G is favored more.
CDMA only - The CDMA phone is capable of using only 2G data communication. When the 2G signal is too low you get nothing at all.
EvDo only - The CDMA phone is capable of using only 3G data communication. When the 3G signal is too low you get nothing at all.
GSM/CDMA auto (PRL) - Some phones are equipped with both GSM and CDMA capabilities. This setting appears to just have the phone attempt to stay connected to the data communication type that works the best. (Maybe the Samsung Galaxy S will take advantage of this???)
Unknown - If none of the above fit or the phone is acting weird as far as connecting to the carrier, you will see your preferred network type is set to this

Having same issue with the signal. Swapped for a new sim but still the same. Sometimes service drops completely and I have to go through the settings menu to search for a signal in order to get some reception

phone came in wcdma preferred stock... I came by that option too but I would much rather suffer with spotty signal [HSPA] over Slow edge speeds...
that said I may turn on GSM only when I'm indoors with little coverage, should save a lot of battery.
is there a setting that forces the G2 to go for the G3 or H setting instead of the edge? I live in an area where my phone can get both and it always goes for the edge signal instead of a weak H signal and the edge is soooo slowww.

*#*#4636#*#* then phone information, then scroll down and change the drop down from auto to wcdma only. Only problem with that is if u go to an area with no 3g, u get no service and have to change it back or go under the settings and wireless to enable 2g connections

Losing 3g with stock Epic

I've got a stock non-rooted Epic and I seem to be constantly losing the 3g signal. It usually happens when I come out of airplane mode. I work in the basement of a hospital where there's no signal so I always put it in airplane mode. When I leave work I take it out of airplane mode and the signal bars come back, but not the 3g icon. If I check under Settings>About Phone>Status it says "connecting" under Network. If I try doing the System Updates, like Firmware, Profile, PRL, or Android, it will sometimes but not always bring back the 3g.
I've called Sprint and they had me go into the Service Menu and Restore the phone with my MSL. It worked the first time but now it doesn't seem to always work. My current PRL is 60674.
Same problem I had with my first epic. I couldn't get the 3G to come back up for over two days. Go get a replacement. The one I have now is flawless(knock on wood) good luck

My phone crashes when entering a roaming area

I have a G2 running Cyanogen 6.1.1 with pershoots latest kernel and when I enter a AT&T roaming area my phone crashes and reboots itself. God forbid I try and use google maps or places. I noticed if I uncheck the "national data roaming" the phone operates as normal but ofcourse I don't have any kind of data access.
Has anyone else noticed this behavior?
Does this happen with the stock rom? I wouldn't know because I been running cyanogen from day 1.
The phone has some serious issues when roaming. Even after I came back to the home service area I had no signal at all until I reboot the phone.
Due to buisiness I am going to be in that area a lot and really need my phone to work.

I live in Maine, and this is a valuable feature when we travel inland. Has always worked flawlessly on BB, MT3G and HD2. My boyfriend's Vibrant picks up ATT and Unicel without issue. Unfortunately, I was unable to connect to another network (voice and data were nil) on the stock rom, and I had to go airplane mode to get signal back when I knew I was back in the TMo area. Haven't tried it on CM yet, but pisses me off to no end that a Vibrant gets better signal and service than my G2. (And that a necessary service for our area doesn't work as it should)

Stuck on GSM/GPRS network

Anyone else have issues where the phone gets stuck on GSM/GPRS? Today in few places the phone has showed GPRS and been really slow/not connecting to internet at all even though I know for certain there is HSPA available (places where my old GNex was always on H+). It takes some twiddling in the settings to get the G2 back to H or 3G. Usually if I force it to CDMA I get H with full bars even though just a moment ago the phone was stuck on GPRS. If I set the phone back to GMS/CDMA/LTE it usually works normally on HSPA again. But if I pass an area where the phone goes to G it will be stuck there.
Oh and is there some kinda H+ icon.. if there is I've never seen it even though my GNex showed it.
I like the phone's speed and slim size with big display. Not too keen on the LG bloatware. Waiting for Cyanogen or some other stock'ish ROM
