[HELP][Samsung A3] - Broken Screen - Recover Files - Galaxy A3, A5, A7, A8, A9 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

Hi,
I've a Samsung A3 with a broken screen and I need to recover some files from it.
The device isn't rooted, have a default recover and ROM.
I'm trying to access via adb, but always shows unauthorized with the command adb devices -l.
Other idea is connect the device trough some cable, is possible with MLH?
Is the A3 compatible with MLH?

The files are accessible, dont worry. You will need TWRP on the device, and ADB configured on the PC/MAC. After that, you can "PULL" the files out of there.
OR JUST USE KIES.
PS, not sure about MHL cables, none worked for me.

To install TWRP I had read that the phone must be rooted.
My great dificulty is how I can root and install twrp on the phone without a screen to see each process stage...
Regarding KIES I never connected the phone to the PC, so I need to autorize KIES to acess phone... and with a broken screen I can't do it.
tks

You dont need root for TWRP.

I saw that is mentioned here http://forum.xda-developers.com/andr...a3-sm-t3153682 .
The following procedure dont require root but it's needed a working screen ("Settings > Developer Options > USB Debugging").
http://www.xda-developers.com/how-to-install-twrp/

Use KIES then.

Ok, I'll put this to bed right now for anyone else that happens to read that misinformation posted all over the net.
You DO NOT and never have had required to have root or enable USB debugging to install custom recovery.
Recovery is a mini OS that has absolutely no connection to the main system OS. USB debugging and root are only required for the main OS.
You dont even need an OS installed to use recovery.
Install TWRP with ODIN and then use the tool below. You can do all this without a screen. Odin will tell you what's happening.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2786395
IMPORTANT: You must disable auto reboot in Odin then when Odin says PASS after flashing you must IMMEDIATELY boot to recovery by holding POWER + HOME + VOL DOWN
as soon as you see REMOVED in Odins windows quickly change to POWER + HOME + VOL UP.
This may take you a few tries as the timing is critical.
Note: If your device still boots to the OS and you dont have a security locked screen then you should still be able to use MTP to transfer files. Just plug your usb cable in.
If worse comes to worse and you cannot do the above I will modify the boot.img to give you adb support without needing usb debugging enabled.

Hello guys. I have the same problem as the OP, I have no to little experience in android and anything around it, but I am pretty messed up and i could use some help here :<
I have Galaxy A3 (2016), with broken screen (totally black), stock rom, without usb debugging enabled and a lock pattern in use...
I tried everything I could comprehend from the replys here and many posts around, but I got nothing... I am not even sure that I could get into recovery mode to install TWRP with odin, as it failed (whenever it could pass the the "SetupConnection")...
Is there anything I can do, maybe someone can help me on something i am missing here? :F

Ensure you have the Samsung USB drivers installed.
You need to put your device in download mode.
Boot holding power + home + vol down.
Hold for around 5 seconds then after another 5 seconds press volume up.
Run odin then plug the usb cable in. You will see the 'added' message if you are in download mode.

I am not quite sure. It's got Greek baseband so I believe that this must be it "SM-A310F_20160827_A310FXXU2BPH8_A310FOXX2BPI8_6.0.1".

Samsung A3 support OTG, but not compatible with MHL.
So does the screen switch on? Or is it completely black?
If can you see the screen display, buy an OTG cable to plug a mouse into your Samsung, and click on your phone to make a backup.

Evening. I have a relatives Galaxy A5 with a completely blank screen and no touch. USB debugging is OFF. Im not sure what version of Android is on the phone. I have installed Custom recovery as far as I can tell. I cannot get the phone into Recovery mode. I have been trying to get the phone to turn off by having it plugged into the charger and holding Volume- & Power (As the battery is non removable) then Power & Volume+ & Home but its a no go. I tried Kies but its saying the phone is locked and it needs a password but I cant type it in with a blank screen and no touch. Does the A5 2015 have OTG support? Theres some important info on the phone so he really needs it. Help Please

Maybe you can try Broken Android Data Extraction tool to help you recover files from Samsung A3 with broken screen. It can help you access files and extract them out from a broken screen or dead Samsung mobile phone.

You need workclock recovery installed in your phone, you can find all the info and links in the forum or you can use youtube. With out that you can't install any rom.

Start here. All the info is in the wiki.

Good luck and welcome.
you need to install the drivers too. If you previously had a Samsung Moment then you should uninstall those drivers first. The drivers you need should be in the clockwork post or the root post.
FYI- you dont need to root if you are going to flash a rom that is already rooted.

i tried searching usb tether and got pda net or extended controls, which do i do
I mean PDA Net,it will ask you to download app for windows, download it put it on ur pc,reboot windows hold F8 then disable driver signiture, install pda net on ur pc and it will install drivers for u,just hope u not using 64bit windows cuz then it might get more complicated
i hate to be a ****.. but everything needed is in the 1st stickied thread in this sub-forum... 32 and 64 bit drivers are there along with the one click root... install the drivers, enable debugging on phone download the one click root. 2.4.0 extract it then run the "run.bat" sit back and wait.. when its all done your phone will be rooted, have supersuser and clockwork recovery.
if that dont make sense you should give the wiki a read before just jumping in.

If you want more than just root (a custom rom) you need to install ClockworkMod Recovery first. Root allows you to theme and change fonts and over/underclock and other things like that, but you seem like you want to apply roms instead of developing them (like myself), so you will need ClockworkMod before anything else.
If the one-click exploit for root worked, the same thing for CWM should work too. Before you try to flash it, just make sure:
1. You have the USB drivers installed.
2. You have freshly rebooted your phone. (This is important and frequently overlooked.)
3. USB debugging is activated.
4. Stay awake is activated (my own safety check, lol).
Get the CWM one-click from here:
http://www.sdx-downloads.com/devs/noobnl/one.click.clockworkmod2.5.1.0-flasher-fixed.zip
Unzip it, go through the list above, and run the "run-try-last.bat". Your phone should auto-reboot (you should hear some device inserted and removed sounds on your Windows, give it a minute or two). Let your phone reboot, and then turn it off. Then hold down the volume-down and camera buttons, then hold the power button (during the samsung logo) until the recovery comes up.
If your text is green, it worked and you can start flashing roms/kernels/themes/apps/whatever. If the text is blue, restart. If it boots normally while you're holding the buttons, your recovery somehow got completely deleted and Odin is required.
now what do u mean as far as freshly rebooted....like reboot to factory , like empty phone or simply turn off and then back on?

LG optimus L5 not booting

Hello guys,
My brother bought this phone like 2 months ago. After he saw wat kind of extra functions you can have after rooting he wanted it too. So i rooted his phone which wasn't that hard as i also rooted my own phone.
This morning my brother got this message on his phone saying to update. Unfortunately he did not ask me whether he can or not. So after his phone didn't boot anymore, he woke me up saying is getting this weird kind of error. To show you what i mean i made a picture: see attached:

I can't acces recovery mode.
And i have no idea how to acces flash mode or fastboot made or this thing called emergency mode.
Thanks in advance,

Make sure you're phone is fully charged. I had a problem entering download mode with low battery. I also had to try different usb ports on my laptop for whatever reason.
Take the battery out, recharge it through an external charger.
Also enter download mode via inserting USB Cable (Make sure u have LG United driver installed) and keeping Volume Up button pressed for the whole time until Downlaod mode appears on screen, or atleast the screen is on with those lines.
In case of success (i-e. phone shows signs of life), go to Device Manager in ur PC and see if Android Device is connected. Use LG Flash tool 2014 to flash kdz back to normal or try the tot method just in-case your phone is D802/LS/VS variant which doesn't need download mode tbh, just healthy battery.

And sadly this was my phone. I switched for a while and was coming back and wanted an upgrade to the software. I hadn't updated from 4.4.2 as it had sat in a drawer, then did AutoRec (which I thought I had done before) and boom phone is completely unusable.

I can get signs of life (the bars), and windows makes the "you plugged something in and it worked" sound, but there is nothing in device manager despite having the LG drivers installed. Battery is healthy, I used the phone for a day or so to watch videos and stuff. I was working on it there. I think I need to try a different computer.

Expand under "Ports Com Ports & LPT"
And you will see LGE Com Port Device.
Just flash the kdz away if u see so. otherwise go through the tot method if u see the com port devices to change the com port address to com41 and then flash tot.
I tried this on Windows 10, Windows 8.1, Windows 8 and Windows 7 (all 64-bit versions) and it worked on all of those. Even with USB 3.0 supported laptop.
Your device is at fastboot mode at background, so use fastboot to erase and flashing img files. For example:
fastboot erase laf.img
fastboot flash laf laf.img
you just need your stock img files

Any good tutorials on fastboot? And those files come from a bootstack correct?

Same problem with me tried Kdz Method. But no luck any idea? It's been 3 months em using it like this. Any help?
Sent from my LG-D800 using Tapatalk
So pretty stuck at this point as well. KDZ method stalls at 60%.
UPDATE FASTBOOT WORKING! Took forever to figure out the drivers, but it's working. I have no clue what to do now.
Fastboot won't recognize the device though I have the fastboot driver installed and running. Any ideas?
TOT is just kinda giving up on me. Still chasing down any leads, but the phone feels pretty borked at this point.
Update: Now in download mode! Man this has been crazy. TOT working! Okay so here is how I did it.
First, I downloaded google's ADB drivers and installed the LG drivers as well. I am not sure which one did it. Then I plugged my phone in and went to device manager. For me, it had an unrecognized device and fastboot wasn't working. So I had to manually assign the driver.
Right click on the device and update driver > Let me choose > all devices > Google > LGE mobile ADB interface.
Now fastboot should be working.
Then I used the srktool_2.1. Option 4 then option 4 again, select model number. It reboots to black screen. From there I was able to completely power off (10 second hold on power button). And when it booted back up all the drivers installed. I was able to TOT back to stock using this guide. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2432476. KDZ might work as well.
Unfortunately the screen damage looks to be permanent. But I think this is worth more now than it was 30 minutes ago!

Completely dead after updating

So I downloaded the Android 7.1.1 and installed it via the update tool on the phone. I have not rooted, nor was I running a custom rom.
Everything went fine, until I looked over and noticed the phone was turned off. I figured it was part of the process, but after leaving it, nothing happened. I now can not power the phone on(It won't even vibrate to indicate it is trying)
The LED is also not turning on when I plug it in.
Any ideas?

Couple of questions:
1. Where did you download Nougat 7.1.1 from?
2. Did you get any message when you unzip the file?
3. Did you notice anything unusual during update before you realised the phone didn't turn on?
Try if you can get into recovery by holding Power and Volume Up. If you can, try updating from there. That is, copy the update zip to the external sdcard, find Apply update from external sdcard, press the Power button. Let it finish then Reboot.
Good luck

I found it online, based on the link it looks like it is from ZTE's russia page.
This could be why it happened?
I got no messages at all. I just selected to install from an SD card in the settings menu, and it started everything.
As best as I can tell, it went out while the little android guy was on screen.
Can't get to recover, phone won't power on at all. Tried holding the power button for 45 seconds and that also did nothing.

I downloaded from ZTE Russian site as well and updated fine. Nothing wrong with the software.
As you can't even boot into recovery, I'm afraid your phone is permanently bricked. I'm at my wits end. Maybe someone else has a better idea.

I also have a bricked Axon 7 mini, what we need is to figure out where the Test-Point is located. I have tried to find it without success.
@ viper98,,
In you case, you can send your phone to repair center. This issue might not be fixed by flash or TWRP.
Thanks!

hi. could you please let me know exactly how you did this?
mine is totally dead, no buttons work, not detected by pc in any way.
made a deepflash cable....nothing
only a tiny dash at the corner of the screen, blinking when connected to pc.
if I open the phone and shortcircuit the test point would I get the COM port detected?
this is all I need, but I thought what you did was the same as the deepflash cable does?
PLEASE!!!! I killed it trying to roll back to android 6 after upgrading to 7 loosing my imei,.
now I don't care about imei, just bring it back to life. but to be honest I think mine is gone forever.....
did you remove the battery to make sure the phone was not in charging mode? please....how did you do it?
Thanks in advance
EDL-MODE Test-Point method
1. Open up your phone and disconnect the battery
2. Circuit test-point
3. Use deepflash cable and push button
4. Connect the battery
5. Push button on deepflash cable or change to regular usb cable when you see HS-USB Diagnostics 9008 in device manager. Flash edl recovery image with miflash.
Only Deepflash Cable method without opening phone
1. Use deepflash cable and push button
2. Press power key
3. Look for HS-USB Diagnostics 9008 in device manager.
With the right deepflash it's the same as using test-point. It was not that easy to open the phone. This one from ebay is the only deepflash cable that worked for me, tried my own homemade without success. https://www.ebay.com/itm/2-in1-Deep...140594?hash=item3af2795332:g:8kgAAOSw-QZZyfgH

After 2 months I also recovered mine from its "deep afterlife".
The above procedure was quite straightforward, actually all you need is patience, skills to open the phone to begin with, perseverance, but most of all...... faith!
To be honest I'm not sure how, but after the test point nothing happened, and I left my phone plugged in, battery disconnected, and left it alone for a while to finally hear the windows driver sound.......at the end it worked. Thanks a lot.

Yeah it is no fun to open up the phone. Happy to hear that you revived the phone from the dead.

[SOLVED] Bricked after an UPDATE or HARD RESET (can not get into recovery mode)

UPDATE: The issue was resolved and here is the [SOLUTION]first of all lets start with the problem, it doesn't matter if it's just hard reset loop or update loop problem, I actually did both, here's a thing this main issue comes with updates but somehow this time recovery mode was completely destroyed, so there is no escape you can only access fastboot which is a good thing in a way, follow the steps to unbrick your phone.
-if you can access recovery mode just download modified miflashpro and flash downloaded rom using it.
REQUIRMENTS: PC,USB CABLE,INTERNET CONNECTION.
SOLUTION:1. Install ADB on your PC with all the necessary drivers for your phone
2. Turn off your phone completely, press and hold volume down and power button together to go into fastboot mode
3. once you are in fastboot mode connect usb to phone and open cmd from adb directory and type in: fastboot devices (if device serial number is shown in fastboot mode everything is good so far... if not go to DEVICE MANAGER in your pc and check if driver is installed properly if anything ADB drivers and ANDROID USB drivers will come handy to install them manually)
4. now type in: fastboot continue

5. your device will boot into system if it fails try going into fastboot mode and going with fastboot continue command again try until it boot ups into safe mode
6. eventually it will boot into safe mode system without your files being touched because nor update nor hard reset was completed fully, phone will be in airplane mode.
7. DO NOT TURN ON WIFI OR MOBILE DATA it will crash your phone, if your phone storage is full remove some stuff plus the apps.
8. Turn on USB DEBUGGING,OEM UNLOCK MODE. open file transfers and download apk of MIUI updater from pc to your phone ( LATEST VERSION ) and install it.
9. now DEACTIVATE AIRPLANE MODE and turn on WIFI FROM SETTINGS
10. once you got internet connection wait a little bit for all of the notifications and stuff to pop up be careful, once it's all good go to settings about phone and system update and CHECK FOR UPDATES
11. let your phone download the update it should be around 1.7GB depends honestly let it decrypt and once you are ready click on INSTALL NOW.
12. it will take time to install and reboot will happen many time you might think that it gets stuck at 90.49% but let it finish be patient it happens it just needs time, once everything is done you are good to go
WELCOME TO MIUI 12
SIDE NOTE:
I - MAKE SURE YOUR PHONE IS CHARGED
II - I DID TRY EDL TEST POINTS BUT YOU DO NOT NEED TO OPEN UP YOUR PHONE NOR TO DO IT.
III - BE PATIENT

Unless you're willing to do a test point boot, take it to a Xiaomi service center, take a receipt with you or some proof of purchase.
You can try buying an EDL cable and testing your luck, I highly doubt tho since Xiaomi locks it's EDL mode.
got good news I managed to actually get in the system
using fastboot continue command it lags as hell but usb debugging is on
so from the looks of it recovery is gone
I am in phone adb devices are visible
anything that you might suggest ?
it took me three times to do this but it finally managed to do something
I think it's safe mode and this is why it's not crashing yet

anyways phone is on and going well charging but is in airplane mode trying to flash rom using miflash but not working... recovery is most likely gone... any ideas guys what to do?
Update:turning wifi makes it crash
UPDATE II: WHATEVER HAPPENS DO NOT TURN ON WIFI IT WILL CRASH AND KEEP ON CRASHING UNTIL YOU GET LUCKY AND TURN IT OFF YOURSELF
UPDATE THREE: I NEED A WAY TO FLASH RECOVERY WITHOUT FASTBOOT AND BOOTLOADER IS LOCKED
You said your device is locked? If it's unlocked try flashing TWRP, and flashing a different ROM so this doesn't happen again.
Careful of rollback index when trying to flash a MIUI ROM so it doesn't cause a hardbrick.

If i somehow manage to get into recovery even if I will be able to install it I will flash rom and it's over
You can't force flash TWRP. You'll have to wait those days with MI Unlock, that's the only way.
There is this thread about an unofficial method of unlocking, I didn't bother looking tbh since I'm very sure you can't unlock it unofficially, but if you do find something then do it on your own risk.
good news managed to get wifi to work now trying to download update from the phone it's slowly going lets see if it installs safely this time boyz will update

Well that's good, I've never heard a Xiaomi update bricking a phone except MI A3 recent Android 11 update. So most likely it will work fine. Make sure you have enough charge in the battery.
Gotta ask, how did you fix it? Did you do a test point?
well it's not over yet my dude, lets see how it's going to update this one hopefully everything will work fine
well I did had to use test points for nothing lmao, plus tweaking with right drivers from device manager and stuff...
well lets hope it works out... it was a nightmare bud
