Micro USB Type C 2.0 (reversable) on HTC 10 wobbles? - Sprint HTC 10 Questions & Answers

Got my HTC 10 after owning an LG G3 for awhile.
I heard about the fingerprint scanner being slightly wobbly (I barely have a problem) but is it normal for the "factory default" cord to wobble when plugged into the phone? I already tried moving the plug/connector inside the phone, and I was unable to move it any. My G3 also had this issue (a lot more noticeable though) but that was because of the cord (I used the ones that came with PS4s).
So yes, I was wondering if this was the cord and if it is normal for this phone, like many others.

Omnia 2 headphone problem

One day when I plugged out my headphones from my phone it didn't seem to notice it. I couldn't get any sound from the speakers, and when I plugged the headphones back in nothing happend, like it didn't notice they were gone. I rebooted my phone several times and still no sound from the speaker. Even the radio (which you need headphones to use), works when I disconnect them (except no sound of course).
It's probably a software bug. Any ideas?
UPDATE: It seems to work now

I've been having headphone problems for a while, (it kept asking me what was plugged in with nothing plugged in). Up to now, it didn't hurt too much, but today it finally made my Omnia II unusable and I had to put my SIM in an old backup phone.
In the past, I've tried sticking a needle on the physical contact to "exercise" it, and putting some WD-40 and alcohol on it with a toothpick. Today, however, nothing worked. I ended up taking the phone apart, (since it was unusable I figured I had nothing to lose), and found that the headphone jack is a single component with a ribbon cable and connector to the main board. I found an online store selling this headphone part via Google and have ordered it, (I had to buy three as that was the minimum--if they work, I'm keeping them all as future replacements, sorry). I won't say what store because I don't know them or if this will fix the problem, but if they deliver and it works, I'll re-post with details. I really hope this fixes the problem because I've spent a *lot* of time and money getting this phone up to replacing my old Palm TX and was expecting it to be around for a few more years...no other mobile OS does what I want right now and I'm totally fine with the O2 hardware/software other than this bloody headphone issue.
I received my new headphone jacks yesterday and replaced the one on my phone. And...it works!
The new jacks are a different design. The "plug-in" sensor is at the top now and the whole thing is a lot tighter. Also, when I plug something in, (I tried headphones and a headset--not TV out), it no longer asks you what's plugged in. It seems to auto-sense the type of plug fine.
It's only day 1, but my phone is usable again. Yay!
The store I bought the jacks from is globaldirectparts.com. I had to buy three jacks, but it only ran about $20US. I'm keeping the others as spares in case this ever happens again as I plan to hold on to this phone for a few more years, (bought off contract).
After getting the back off and exposing the internals, I was able to just lift the top edge of the main boards with a popsicle stick use a small, flat screwdriver to unplug the old jack. I then slid the new jack in, made sure it was lined up, (it does this pretty much on it's own--not much wiggle room), and pushed down on the board until it "clicked" on.

HTC Hero USB / EXT port wear

Hi Folks...
I've been using a Hero full time for just over a year, and lately have had problems charging it. Seems like the USB / EXT port has weared down to the point where the cable doesn't contact as well as it should.
Anyone else had a similar problem? Wonder if this is fixable, or time for a new phone?
If you're talking about the cable just fitting loosely, you can always put a little bit of pressure inside edge the metal end on the cable to slightly bend it outward and it will help it fit a bit more snug.
If you're talking about it actually making contact loosely on the inside, you can always get a small piece of scotch tape and put it on the outside of the large side of the metal that fits into the phone, it will help push the contacts closer to the inside of the hero's usb.
Thanks for the suggestion, ill give that a go....

Same issue here, will be trying suggested solutions.
But I see no answer to your first question: Anyone else had a similar problem?

I had this issue with 3 of my usb cables that have pulled out while using the phone in disk mode and in the car charging. I used the method to slightly bend the connector outward on the cable itself and worked fine for me. One cable is a 12" that I use on my netbook, the other 2 are 3' -- one of which I use in my wife's car for charging and the other I use on my home desktop PC.
But there are other cables that I have not had issue with --the OEM cable I use in my car and I use a different cable at work. That said, in my case, it seems the issue is more with the cables then the actual port on the phone. Either way, by using one of techniques I suggested previously and what I've mentioned above, I have no issues now. I hope that clarifies the answer.
U seem to be right..... Different cables, diffferent results.....
Bought new ones and they work beautifully
I find this incredible, my hero's usb port is still really tight after over a year of use--to the point of being hard to plug in--especially the wall charger cable (uses the full ExtUSB?) which I use every single day. What do you guys do to the poor things?
My 3.5mm port has gotten a little loose though (shear force on the connector no doubt) but bending back the copper "spring" a little has fixed that for now.

[Q] Laundry list of problems (ie lots of potential 'thanks')

I recently bought an ATRIX 4G off of ebay. I needed a GSM upgrade for my DROID x2 and this was really a great steal and the lapdock coupled with the unlocked bootloader make it a real 'uphrade' (even though it's older).
Anyway... it has a few small problems. They aren't dealbreakers and I can definitely live with them but I would like to fix them if its at all possible (every detailed solution gets a 'thanks')
Microphone does not work (in any apps)
Speaker only works when i twist the phone (apply pressure, in opposite directions, on the ff camera and the search button)
Headphone jack works rarely (i clean the jack with a cotton swab but they stopped working after i turned off the phone)
And finally, the usb doesnt recognize the charging cable when im hooked into a wall charger. Originally it didnt recognize being plugged into the computer, but after i unlocked the BL and flashed cwm, the computer was recognized.
I was running stock 2.3.6 4.1.141 but am now running faux's 1.3 and nottachtrix 1.3.1 the problems persisted on both setups.
Only other thing I can tell you wonderful, intelligent, good-looking, helpful people is that I suspect the screen has been replaced. Its just in too good condition to be used.

honestly, it sounds as if they damaged some of the internals when trying a screen replacement, if you've tried loading a different kernel/firmware onto it and the problems persist, then it's definitely hardware related.

Samsung Focus USB connectivity issues

Hello everyone!
After finally getting an external battery charger, I've been able to use my Samsung Focus again.
I'm still, however, having USB connectivity issues.
Here's what I've tried.
-Reinstalling Zune
-Using other USB ports on my laptop.
-Using another computer
-Reinstalling the Samsung USB Driver
-Using a few different microUSB cables, including one from another Samsung phone
-Cleaning the microUSB port.
-installing WMDC
EDIT: -I've also made sure my phone's in Zune Sync USB Mode in the Diagnosis app.
When I connect the device, it says "Unrecognized USB Device Detected", I've tried replacing the drivers with the Zune driver, which works half the time, but it still has a yellow caution icon next to it. Saying things like "the device cannot start", "a request for the USB device descriptor failed.", and "device enumeration failed".
So now it's down to it being the software on the phone or the phone microUSB port.
I'd love to hard reset and see if it's the software, but if it's the port and I've reset, then I'm screwed.
I've searched numerous forums, including this one, and still haven't seen any working solutions.
EDIT: Also, I've noticed in the Battery Status app... it'll say "charging" for a few seconds and then go to "discharging".
Some specs:
Phone:
-Samsung Focus SGH-i917R
-Rev 1.3 on AT&T
-Windows Phone 7.10.8107.79
-DFT Freedom ROM [I guess it was a Rogers version]
Laptop PC:
-Dell XPS17 L702X
-Windows 8 Release Preview 6.2.8400
-Intel Core i7 2720QM @ 2.20GHz
-NVIDIA GeForce GT555M (3GB) @ 1080p120
-16GB DDR3 Dual Channel Memory
If anyone can help, it'd be huge!
And if there's anything I've neglected to mention, please let me know and I'll edit the post.
Thank you so much!
So I ended up doing a hard reset, and much to my dismay, it's still spitting out USB Device Not Recognized. It reset to the DFT Freedom (Chinese New Year) ROM I have on there, which I didn't quite expect... I'm wondering if that's the problem or not. When I get closer to my upgrade next month (Lumia 920, here I come) I'll likely get ballsy-er, and might even dismantle the phone and see if there's anything physically amiss with the port.
Still, any suggestions, feel free.
Have the same issue. Did same as you searching internet for any hints.
Have had this issue for 6months now, just been living with it and syncing files to skydrive and Gmail with WiFi.
I even took phone apart down to the circuit board level to see if anything noticeable or maybe connector or any components with broken solder. Hit it with some heat from SMT soldering iron to get a bit of reflow in that area, didn't make a difference. Ohmed it out as far as I could go thinking data lines were shorted or something...no luck.
I'm leaning toward this being a USB receiver chip level issue inside the Samsung Focus. Was hoping it would be something simple. Who knows, maybe that ROHS solder wiskering issue is haunting me somewhere in that phone.
FYI this issue came up around same time I had the repeated chiming issue. The one that only goes away when you do plug in the USB connector with charger or PC. Luckily haven't experienced that issue in 5 or so months. But did have it dissappear for a month then reappear again back then, so anything goes.
Note about 2 months ago I plugged phone into computer and it tried to sync up, zune popped up. I got excited, but after remove and plug in again, have not seen been able to get it back since.
I too am having the same problem.
First of all, be warned - if you decide to pull apart your Samsung focus, it's easy to do, but I found that the SMT port for the antenna is VERY fragile.
Steps to open it after turning it off:
1) open back plate.
2) pop out battery, sim, and expansion memory
3) take out the 7 screws.
4) with a flat blade (whether that be a screwdriver, flat tweezers, or even a guitar pick), insert it in the gap between the chrome and the FRONT of the phone, then gently twist to pop the "back" off.
5) You will now need to separate the volume buttons from the side of the phone (the plastic comes out easy enough).
This is a sticker back, and getting it off is hard and can tear easy.Take your time.
From there, there are several flat PCB sections that have multipin connectors hidden under them. They need to be pried off - they do not require a lot of force.
Now the big reason not to do this:
The f$#%ing antenna connector. It will pop off, but the connections to the mainboard are VERY fragile. I'd suggest pushing against it and use tweezers to rotate and lift the connector.
All that said, I've been looking for a cause for the problems you've been having - there is one other symptom you haven't mentioned, and this has been a problem for a lot of focus owners - the constant dinging. You may not be getting it (if you're phone is on vibrate, then it's no surprise), but every time the device "sees" the usb connection to charge, it Dings (at least, for me).
Yeah. I *want* to either fix it, or drop it in the toilet.
My phone is off any warranty already, and Samsung refuses to help. I'm not buying any more Samsung products ... and before this, I was humming and hawing between the Nokia 920 and the ATIV S (for the screen size).

MK808B random reboots

Hi all,
I recently purchased an MK808B. Ive had a few issues with reboots.
If I try to add a bookmark to the default internet browser the device reboots. This wasnt a major issue so I downloaded Google Chrome. The device has now rebooted multiple times when trying to open some apps. Most notably when trying to open Facebook.
The WIFI signal is poor, my router is within 3 feet of the TV and I get a strong signal on other Android devices. Is there something I can do to improve the signal strength?
The device isn’t rooted. I have read on Geekbuying's blog how to do it and it seems straight forward enough but is there a better way to root? Can someone recommend a custom ROM. I have read about a couple of roms on this forum and ona couple of others. Should I flash the stock rom from geekbuyings blog? Does anyone know about Finless rom?
Also is there a default way to power off the device?
The reboot issue sounds like a power supply problem. If your PSU is too weak your device will reboot randomly when using.
Yea this is common using the stock power adapter. Those Chinese adapters aren't known for being accurate or stable.
Try powering from a PC USB or a spare name brand charger with a 1A+ output. Fixed mine.
There are lots of wifi antenna mods. Basically they did a horrible job soldering. They shorted the ground with the positive on many of them. These are dual antenna. One of mine was shorted. I fixed it by just pulling off the ground completely. I eventually removed all built in antennas and added one from an old router. Full signal now, but no where near pocketable anymore. Haha.
Most people drill a hole in the case and make a cable come out and back in... like a mushroom shape.
My favorite firmware is the Minix Hybrid by lewry. Newer ones come rooted and have a custom kernel too. Very fast and stable. Use the 720 versions. The 1080 makes things too small. You don't need to be rooted to flash roms. You flash the chips using a program.
To flash... CHECK CABLE. Mine will charge but doesn't pass data. Took me a while to figure that out.
Disconnect all USB. Hold down the little hidden button with a paper clip THEN connect the OTG port to the PC (this will also supply power). Holding the paperclip in WHILE plugging in the OTG cable is a challenge. You'll hear the PC ding immediately and ready to flash.
