Can Amazon reviews influence Blu to release the promised R1 HD band 12 VoLTE update? - BLU R1 HD Guides, News, & Discussion

Blu seems to be much more responsive to problems and complaints made in amazon reviews that they are to individuals contacting them.
It appears that Blu was pressured to release kernel source as a result of amazon reviewers lowering their reviews and commenting on it.
Could a similar campaign conducted via amazon reviews pressure them to finally push out the band 12 VoLTE update that they continue to promise on their webpage? Maybe!
Here is what they say on their website for the phone: http://www.bluproducts.com/r1-hd/
Need For speed
Stay connected with speeds of up to 10x faster than 3G. No matter where you are in the country you’ll always have the fastest internet access.
BLU R1 HD comes with 4G LTE bands 2(1900 MHz), 4(1700 MHz), 7(2600 MHz) and 17(2100MHz) and 3G bands 850/1700/1900/2100. 4G LTE band 12(700 MHz) will be available via OTA (Over-the-air) update shortly after launch. And then down in the Specifications, it says:
TECHNOLOGY
Android v6.0 Marshmallow
2G: 850/900/1800/1900
3G: 850/1700/1900/2100
4G LTE: 2/4/7/17
12 will be available OTA(Over-the-air)
And from http://www.tmonews.com/2016/06/blu-r1-hd-price-50-update-lte-band-12-support/
BLU’s R1 HD is being sold unlocked and includes HSPA+ 850/1700/1900/2100MHz as well as LTE bands 2, 4, 7, and 17. I asked BLU about the R1 HD’s T-Mobile support and was told that “it will have LTE band 12 enabled via OTA along with VoLTE.” BLU’s R1 HD product page says that this update will arrive “shortly after launch.”
This phone is the #1 Best Selling Unlocked Cell Phone on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Best-Sellers-Electronics-Unlocked-Cell-Phones/zgbs/electronics/2407749011 Amazon has been selling this phone since June 29, 2016. Blu should be made to follow through on their promise to provide an update that provides full VoLTE band 12 support by enabling the band and providing the needed VoLTE software. They have had enough time to do this and have provided other updates instead. Should we put together a plan to add or modify amazon reviews to bring attention to them not providing the VoLTE update that they promised and should we reduce the number of stars we give the phone in our reviews as a result? Blu seems to have employees that monitor the amazon reviews and respond to every negative review posted on amazon, if only to say, "contact us - we'll fix it".
And here are captures of the Blu ads as of 9/28/16 just in case they decide to change them after we all already bought the phones:
https://snag.gy/5HtJ9F.jpg
https://snag.gy/hZ87ks.jpg
And I saved the Blu R1 HD page in the Wayback Machine:
https://web.archive.org/web/20160928173326/http://bluproducts.com/r1-hd/

Well, no response here, but I *did* give the Blu R1 HD a one star review on amazon because they continue to promise a band 12 voLTE update "shortly after release" on their website. They have Blu employees respond to every poor review on Amazon so I will be interested to see what their reply will be. Their usual "contact technical support" won't work in this case! The review includes a picture from their website where they promise the update.
If other people want to chime in about Blu needing to follow through on their promise, feel free! Here is a link to my review: https://www.amazon.com/gp/customer-reviews/R2NTINKAFON7T/ref=cm_cr_getr_d_rvw_ttl?ie=UTF8&ASIN=B01H2E0J5M

I know this isn't quite the same as Blu releasing it in their stock ROM, but you can activate Band 12 with any MTK Engineering Mode app from the PlayStore. Also, vampirefo has a custom ZenUI ROM that already has Band 12 and the FM radio activated by default.

Yes, I know that, thanks. But what we need is the voLTE software that they promise on the phone's webpage, which is necessary to get the best use out of band 12 and it's improved signal when indoors.

No response from Blu yet to my one-star Amazon review: Where is the the band 12 / voLTE update they promised "shortly after launch"?. If more people voted that the review was helpful, it might get more visibility and then more attention from Blu.

Not likely. Blue Life One X was sold with promised Marshmallow update shortly after launch. Never happened...

Yes, but that other Blu phone didn't have Amazon's adware on it. They have been much more responsive to complaints made on amazon than complaints sent to Blu. There have been at least two updates pushed only to the amazon version - some for android security updates and some to lock down the phone and disable SPFT.

VoLTE & Band 12 Just landed on my Amazon Blu R1 HD today
Just got the update this morning.
Can't post screenshot since I just joined...see link in my profile.

Does VOLTE actually work for anyone? I am on Band 4 Tmobile and on making or receiving a call, the phone always drops to 4G and then comes back to LTE when finished.

That is disappointing! Can anyone confirm VoLTE working on t-mobile? Are there settings that need to be changed or anything?

Does anyone have working VoLTE on t-mobile? How did you test and confirm it? Isn't the primary test being able to use data while in a VoLTE call?

I don't know about the volte. But your question in this thread is way off the topic title and will probably not attract an answer. Please post questions in appropriate thread. I'm not trying to be "that guy" but only trying to help

Developer Edition and T-Mobile and LTE

Hi, I live in southern California. I was looking at purchasing a developer edition m8 on ebay. I needed to switch from verizon to t-mobile. I tried to find info on wether or not the developer edition would get lte on t-mobile's network. I could not find any info on it. I had an m7 for verizon that when I put a t-mobile sim in it would only connect to the edge network. So I found a deal for a developer edition m8....
I decided to buy it and the answer is yes, the developer edition m8 on t-mobile's network does connect to lte. Here are some screenshots of exactly what the lte connection I am getting is...

I am currently running Leedroid 7.3 and firmware 4.20.531.4. I get lte all over riverside county and la county with this configuration. I was worried that with a non "t-mobile" m8 that I would have issues.
Again the developer edition definately does get lte connectivity on t-mobile. In southern California anyway.....
T-Mobile uses Bands 2, 4, and 12 for LTE. The DE supports Bands 2 and 4, but not 12. So while LTE might work in a many locations, you won't have LTE if areas where they are using Band 12 for LTE.
Additionally, the DE does not support Band 4 (AWS) for 3G; which is the band most commonly used by T-Mob for 3G. So if you need to fall back to 3G (no LTE), you will probably not get it and drop down to EDGE.
If you like, you can s-off the phone by sunshine ($25) and then be able to (after changing CID & MID) flash the T-Mob radio to enable the T-Mob bands. Or even "fully convert" the phone to stock T-Mob software.
Flashing a T-Mobile radio won't enable AWS. A radio flash is just tweaks to how the phone handles different signals. Actual Bands are lower level settings that aren't touched by firmware.

All GSM M8's (that is all but Verizon and Sprint) are identical in hardware. If the band support was not incorporated in firmware, how else would it be?
Pretty sure folks have been changing the band support by flashing different radios. If you know otherwise, please cite your source. I'll do the same and try to find a thread(s) where folks have successfully changed the band support.

Currently can't get you a source, but once I'm off of work I will do so.
An example is a current thread that's going around with changing bands on Qualcomm devices. The last time I went through it. Only Verizon's m8 had the specific app that would enable it to write any changes via QPST.
All gsm M8s are identical in nature, but carriers change the actual bands. Radio files are just the actual adjustments to overall RF Rx/Tx. If the band isn't enabled that part of the firmware is just ignored.

Intentional Limitation of Wifi & LTE Bands

Greetings XDA,
After some research, I've determined it to be a distinct possibility that the OnePlus X (possibly others) have built in software limitations.
In a recent tear down of the device (http://www.myfixguide.com/manual/OnePlus-x-teardown/) it was found that the device contains these two components:
Qualcomm WCN3680 RF chip
Qualcomm WTR1625L RF chip
Here are my findings of each of these parts.
Qualcomm WCN3680 RF chip
https://www.qualcomm.com/news/relea...1ac-product-ecosystem-provide-end-end-gigabit
"the WCN3680 is a mobile 1x1 802.11ac combo Wi-Fi/Bluetooth/FM chip"
This article from Qualcomm states the the chip present in the OnePlus X supports wireless AC.
Qualcomm WTR1625L RF chip
https://www.qualcomm.com/news/relea...olution-enables-single-global-lte-design-next
"The WTR1625L can accommodate all cellular modes and 2G, 3G and 4G/LTE frequency bands and band combinations that are either deployed or in commercial planning globally."
This article from Qualcomm states that the chip present in the OnePlus X is capable of supporting ALL LTE frequencies in use, or in the planning stages of development, as of Febuary 21, 2013. Where are Bands 12 & 17?
Am I correct in my findings? Will we be able to enable these bands with this method? http://www.xda-developers.com/add-frequency-bands-qualcomm/
if youre correct then i guess those features require higher license fees
thus theyve disabled them to keep costs down
I reckon they have the right chips, but haven't included all of the antennas due to size constraints. ie there is a 2.5GHz antenna for wifi, but not enough room for a 5GHz one.
Good news is, "It is not a hardware limitation" The link if I'm right is not working??? Trying to follow you. Update this link works:

So you're saying 5GHz WIFI and all LTE frequencies can be unlocked?
- edit -
O, now I understand, it was just about the link working, not the real thing.
All chipsets with integrated modems supports virtually all 2G, 3G and 4G frequencies that are user worldwide.. They are not activated because of bureaucratic questions, like regulators approval, licensing fees, etc.. etc... There are some examples on this forum of persons who succeed on activating frequencies that were previously deactivated on Snapdragon equipped phones..
WiFi is another story, because if the phone don't have a 5G antenna, then the fact that the chipset supports it, doesn't change nothing, because it will never work.
As I've mentioned in other related threads, once my OnePlus X arrives in the mail, I'll be sure to try my hand at unlocking band 17 since I have an active AT&T sim (I'll try band 12 too, but I can't verify that one).

Steady progress. I've gotten as far as were I can read and write NV values. This has required a lot of setup, mainly for Windows to communicate with the phone properly. The major problem I'm facing is that any NV value I write does not stick after a reboot. Thus far I've only needed root, but I may need a patch flashed and that will require TWRP. The OnePlus One required a RMT patch, so I'm going to try that later tonight or early tomorrow, making any modifications as required.

Very nice. Have you been able to test the added bands?

Posting here as this is a very cool thread to follow.
So apparently it seems someone may have picked up band 12 on their OPX. Heres a link to the post in the OPX forums in the official OP forums:
https://forums.oneplus.net/goto/post?id=14158562#post-14158562
Want to test it out myself since I currently have another phone that actually picks up band 12. If I'm able to pick up band 12 in the city I'll have my OPX on hand to verify that it can pick up band 12.

The LTE discovery app is very unreliable on T-Mobile. There's many documented instances of false / incorrect information. It's the way T-Mobile sets up their network, it doesn't report the info, for apps to recognize the band.
The only true way to determine which band you're using would be to use the phones built-in service mode. Which the oneplus doesn't have ( I checked).
https://m.reddit.com/r/tmobile/comments/2w77an/tmobile_please_share_data_so_that_lte_discovery/
Also, here's the FCC approval document, oneplus or any company cannot add / change the radios without getting FCC approval.

I have not been able to. NVRAM values get loaded on boot. After unlocking my X's bootloader, I booted into TWRP and flashed the OPO's RMT storage patch. Let's just say it did not work out very well. Like cellular antenna not working at all, not so well. Thankfully I'm in the good habit of making backups before modifying anything and all is back to normal.
Any updates?
I don't understand One Plus. The One plus one, was/is such a great device. It put them on the map. The one x, is a beautifully designed phone. Why disabled/cripple the phone? To keep the price at $250? I would gladly pay $100 dollars more, for the one plus one, in the one plus x size, and design. I had to send mine back, because of lack of lte in my area on AT&T. Which by the way, I still haven't received a refund. And they received the phone back on 12/5. Their support is total crap!

Well Qualcomm's anti-tamper code is getting the better of me. I've tried using the Blu_spark kernal, but this did not rid of the code. My next step it to try and see if I can't to the mod on CM and have it live once OxygenOS is back on. This assuming CM can take the mod in the first place. I don't really want to have to flash a ROM for this mod. I was hoping to keep things as simple as possible so more people would take advantage this mod. Again, this assumes everything works as I hope it does. I'm so close, yet so far.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 North America Users Experience Discussion

I am opening this thread with the intention of enabling a discussion among the North American users (current/prospective).
It appears that Note 3 Pro (Snapdragon variant) is the logical choice for north american user, as it includes few of the 4G bands.
So, how is the network experience with the major cell phone carriers? Which firmware/rom includes those bands? AOSP/Global/China? Does VOLTE work?
I have been using the RN3P for the last couple weeks. I am in the Florida area in T-Mobile network, and really happy to see that I get 4G LTE most of the time. It's the band 4 according to the LTE Discovery app.
I have tried a bunch of different roms, including global stable, aosp and developer beta. I have observed that the network is much better with the developer MM roms. I am currently using the Epic ROM based on the developer rom, and I think I shall use it as my daily driver.

Connected to LTE with Rogers and Koodo (Telus Band 4 AWS). I ordered the china model which shouldn't have included Band 4 (if you believe the information on all the china sellers sites), and confirmed it's not Kate model as it is only 150mm tall.

That's good to know. There are so many variants of this device, it's really confusing. I ordered mine from Gearbest last week, who knows when it will show up. The problem with these Chinese retailers is that sometime they themselves don't know what they have. I guess I have to see what I get. I just hope that mine also supports band 4, which T-mobile in USA also uses.
Are you still using China firmware? Does the china model come with Google Playstore?
http://willmyphonework.net/
most networks will work on the note 3 Snapdragon version (kenzo).
the Kate or aka Note 3 Special Edition model supports a additional 'band 20' which afaik is not used in the USA (someone confirm?)
the Mediatek note 3 Hennessy most likely doesn't have good usa network support
so make sure you get the kenzo or kate model, though I would stick with kenzo since the kate doesn't have as good of support or accessories

Mine came with Global 8.0.1.0 installed, prerooted, and unofficial bootloader unlock. I flashed official 8.0.1.0 global from tgz file, which then relocked the bootloader. I have done the official unlock with the same 8.0.1.0 official stable with no problems.
It came with Google Playstore, and some gapps (not all).
Anyone tried AOSP roms in north america? Does it also get the lte coverage?
I have heard privacy concerns from many people MIUI roms. May be rumors, may be not. But I don't wanna take the risk.
Can anyone compare the performance between MIUI and AOSP roms?

I have on hand experience with Umi Super. Which carrier you are on? With T-mobile Umi Super had really poor data connection. Barely got 3g, I couldn't even stream a YouTube video. I don't think it has any north american band. It's a decent phone for the price, but do your research first.
In Florida with T-Mobile network, using band 4.
I recommend changing the default apn settings to fast.t-mobile.com one, which better result for me.

Xiaomi don't have all US bands why?

I'm interested to trying out Xiaomi , but seem like they don't have T-Mobile band 12 why? Huawei, ZTE, even the new company LeEco have band 12 and Xiaomi doesn't?
The Mi Note 2 Global Edition does have Band 12.
There are a total of three variants: 4GB RAM, 6GB RAM and another 6GB RAM variant which is specifically labelled as the Global 4G+ variant. This particular variant has the following bands:

mi mix is available for pre order 637 usd @ geekbuying and 625usd @ibuygou. however they are not global edition not sure if xiaomi has any plan to release global edition of mi mix. current phone edition will not work properly on US LTE network it will only work on slower data network (2g/3g)
XIAOMI Mix would be quite a experimental phone, IMO, better sit and watch how it works first.
Only Mi Note 2 have bands that might work in the US...Mi Mix don't have it....luckily i not from/living in US and i can use the MI Mix without having to worries about bands
Does anybody know what bands supports usual version (not global)? Does it support LTE band 3 for example?)

According to IBuyGou:
Frequency:
FDD-LTE:B1/B3/B5/B7/B8
TDD-LTE:B38/B39/B40/B41
WCDMA:B1/B2/B5/B8
TD-SCDMA:B34/B39
GSM:B2/B3/B5/B8
Also a small note on the Global edition of the Mi Note 2: While it does support Band 12 for T-Mobile, you might not get VoLTE support on that network. Possibly something that one brave buyer may have to experiment and find out.

Mi Mix should work pretty well on T-Mobile LTE USA as it supports LTE bands 2 and 4.

i Swore I read somewhere they were also releasing a global version of Mi MIX let me see if I can find it ....
who knows i'm probably wrong
Hoping this is the first step in the direction of releasing US based devices. I like the price point and specs.
Both the Xiaomi Mi Note 2 and the MIX use a Qualcomm Snapdragon chip though, no? Unless I'm mistaken, the frequencies are locked out only on a software level, not a hardware level - I'm sure I've seen a few threads where people have manually added additional frequency bands to their devices to work in different regions of the world (at the risk of bricking their phone, but that's standard disclaimer stuff).
Wouldn't it be possible to purchase a Xiaomi Note 2 or MIX, and then just 'unlock' the bands that they say are not supported?
I'm in for one as soon as available, not happy after giving up Note 7...that was most awesome device. This looks a lot like Note 7...so I'll bite for 600ish

Just choose global version which supports all bands
For those who are wondering about this phone in the US. I have this phone (Global Edition) and have had it for about three months now. I used it on AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon it worked no problem! I had AT&T originally, and it worked fine and even got band 30 in some areas. In my area AT&T speeds were horrible, so I switched to T-Mobile very briefly they had terrible coverage in my area. So I switched to Verizon. I use this phone all the time and get excellent speeds with it. I hope that helps.

Verizon System Update 3 NOT pushed, Completely lost access to network. HELP!!

Has anyone else had this issue???
Last night Verizon pushed the System Update 3 enabling 5G. By wonderful design, they didn't include MY phone. Does anyone know where this file could be hosted or something...? I can't find ****...

5G not an option now, lost access to LTE
This is bs, but it also means they completely pulled even LTE access...

Might want to remove that language
Seems Verizon is trying to monopolize where you buy phones, chances are most people don't know about this limitation before they buy it.
Where did you buy your phone from?

You can plug into a pc through usb, in pulldown menu change usb options from charge only to system update, this will open a folder containing verizons upgrade assistant. Here you can find the ota

Amazon a couple months ago. Worked just until 11/13. Easy few months of service with minimal issues
so i was researching if i want to get this phone and i found something that might help you. take a look at this thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/verizon/comments/je9hai/nationwide_5g_on_oneplus_8_pro/ and the instructions here: https://mt-tech.fi/en/modify-oneplus-7-pro-5g-8-and-8-pro-nr-lte-a-band-combos/
I just got a 8 Pro and last night got a system update that seems to have enabled 5g. under connections my automatic network selector now shows an option with 5G added and im getting LTE+ that shows when I'm using data. now my speed test shows I'm getting almost triple my download speeds now at 148Mbs or so down . I honestly wasn't expecting any type of 5g access with how Verizon can be with non-branded devices.
Maybe you need to get the update to have it work like i did but just thought i would share since it just happened
This likely won't help you if you bought Verizon's 8 pro (rather than from OP or Amazon, unlocked). Sorry, but I'll just include the following:
I had been with Verizon for years, and then switched from Samsung to OP 8P. Love the OP. But Verizon poorly supports this device if it's BYOD. I couldn't get VOWifi or VOLTE, among other things.
After searching on XDA, I found the OP 7 Pro logkit.apk and used that for a bit, and it *did* give me VOLTE and VOWifi (you have to use some USSD codes to get to some behind-the-scenes settings, if I recall one code was *#*#INFO#*#* (crap, it may have been #*#*INFO*#*#), that opens up a really cool set of setting windows related to your cell signal, wifi settings, etc.
Ultimate super-awesome fix? I ditched Verizon and wen't with T-Mobile. (after 20 years with ATT or VZW).
Wow!! Instant wide-coverage 5G that actually works, instant support for VOWifi and VOLTE, and visual voicemail that works too. I love it.
So, I'm sorry OP (Original Poster)(not OnePlus), I realize this may not help you directly, but I really do feel your frustration, and just wanted to share my experience. Maybe someone may be helped a bit. And, no, I don't work for any telecom co. My job requires good phone signal etc and it has to be reliable, thus my taking a chance on T-Mobile.
Best wishes.
Oh hey original poster, the link you put is the one I looked at before switching carriers, because it said T-Mobile was the best for OP8P, and I agree completely. Good tech support too.
From the weblink:
=============================
OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro on T-Mobile 5G
As you may have expected, T-Mobile is the best-supported carrier for the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro. The unlocked models of both phones support T-Mobile's Sub-6 5G network, meaning you'll get the same network access as many of the phones it sells directly. T-Mobile's Sub-6 5G is the portion of the network that operates on lower frequencies, and has the widest coverage — you'll find its Sub-6 5G layering most of the same footprint as its LTE network.
The phones also support Sprint's mid-band Sub-6 network, which was the core reason T-Mobile purchased Sprint in the first place. So as T-Mobile starts to integrate Sprint's spectrum into its new larger network, the OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro are ready for it.
5G on T-Mobile: Everything you need to know
Curiously, though, neither phone supports T-Mobile's mmWave 5G network, which is admittedly small right now but is a main pillar of its overall 5G rollout nationwide — particularly in dense cities. This is even the case for the OnePlus 8 that T-Mobile will be selling directly, which is a head-scratcher.
For most people, Sub-6 5G is more important, especially in the next year, because T-Mobile's mmWave network is very small and only available in parts of a handful of cities. But it will become more and more important, so if you plan on keeping your OnePlus 8 for a couple of years, keep in mind that you won't have access to T-Mobile's whole 5G network as it grows.
====================
I just bought the OP 8 Pro from one plus and the only thing not working VOwifi but VOLTE is working fine and so is visual VM and now so is 5G for me yay . I do know when you BYOD you need to chat with support and provision your line for CDMA-Less if that's not added to your line things will not work there is a way to get VoWifi working but i never used it on my other phones so not really a big issue for me. i can see it being an issue for people with bad signal at home. i have had good luck using phones on VZW as long as they were certified as allowed on their network
Kind of related, I have a OnePlus 8 IN2013 on Verizon (if you are wondering why the EU model its because it was the only model I could find in Onyx Black) LTE and everything works fine on it but I wonder if I can get low band 5g enabled using the method posted further up. I already know I cant get mmwave 5g and honestly dont care but I cant for the life of me find what bands Verizon is using for their low band 5g
