Zen fone flip cases (any good ones or better to stick with number and other cases?) - Asus ZenFone 3 Questions & Answers

I am new to the Zenfone, but one thing I have noticed is there have been what look to be identical cases (flip cases) for past models.
I am considering the Zenfone 3, but am wondering if official flip cases are made by other companies who market under their own name, such as seen in this Italian video comparing an ASUS snd a Nillkin case.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CMKKKHOkqMY
Anyone know?
I have seen other models that also look the same, such as TopAce, etc. Nillkin gets the most hits. Are they the makers of the official case?
Related question. Will a flip case take a tempered glass screen protector? I tend to think no since there is also a protective screen built into the case. As such, maybe better to get a good bumper or other case with a tempered glass protector? But I hear the zenfone 3 is partly curved and may be a challenge for such glass protectors. What do others have to say? Thanks!

I have this one. Not expensive at all, closes with magnets, and has excellent protection on all sides (the phone fits in a soft elastic plastic) . Sorry it's on Amazon France but I guess you can find it almost everywhere https://www.amazon.fr/gp/product/B01EHP3STS/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Help on case / screen protectors!

Hey all, hope your day is going well.
(sorry for no links, XDA doesnt allow it)
I have bought my S8, I also have bought 2 cases and a screen protector....
The case i am CURRENTLY using Ottobox's Commuter series.
The second case i have is Spigen's slim fit case.
Now... Here is my question and problem, i know nothing much about protection and it seems i can only use a tempered glass protector on the Spigen one... As the Ottobox case doesnt allow it to fit.
Should I use the Spigen Case + Glass together? Or would it be better just to go without the tempered glass and use the Ottobox one.
OR should I get the RhinoShield? Just purchase the back and front tempered glass they provide.
Hey mate, here is my honest opinion.
I bought a Poetic slim case for my S8 and I couldn't be happier. It actually protects the edges cuz of the frame being a bit high. However, I bought a glass screen protector and unfortunately didn't sit flat on the screen. I had to press on hard to get it to work. I ended up taking the screen protector off and let be without it. Now, I'm telling you this because you might face the same issue with screen protector. Somehow these screen protectors aren't quite 100% designed to fit perfectly for these new devices. If I were you I would stick with something that will provide the best protection for you device. I will eventually buy a more rugged case for it, but for now this case it's more than enough. You said you bought a screen protector for the front and back? Let me know how the front glass works for you. If it works fine and it fits properly I might buy one too.
Protect your device mate and take care of it. ? cheers.

[Question] What is a good brand of tempered glass that works and effective?

So the question is probably familiar from past phones from Sammy such as Note8 or S8/s8+ lol... The consensus from previous reads on XDA and reddit seems to be Whitestone Dome but a lot also gave negative reviews of it due it either lose touch response, or peeling off too easy. I had purchased a full adhesive from aliexpress for my Note8 but could not really use it since I sold the phone to get the S9+ . Anyone has any good recommendation for a tempered glass based on the brands they got for their previous Sammy? I mean recommendation as in, they dropped the phone with it on, like on the corners and the screen survived even though the glass shattered? Case would be great too, as I have a Supcase on the way. Thanks!!
Not the Whitestone then? I was almost about to pull the trigger on getting one for the S9+ but I'm hesitant now.
I've been using Whitestone for myself and my kids, although it has it's fragilities (cold, an snow can alter it) its the best i've tried. I've already ordered mine for the S9+... If i were you get a couple... just in case. As once you've tested it, you won't go back on the side glued ones. You just need to glue it well, and don't be in a hurry.
I've never had issues with touch sensitivity or peeling off (that's even nuts as it's literally glued to the screen, if you break the dome and need to peel it off you should be careful as it's glued it shatters and pieces can jump).
There may be another option now and as upset as I was with the first interation of Zagg's tempered glass screen protector for the s8+, they have come out with the glass curve elite. https://www.zagg.com/us/en_us/invisibleshield/glass-curve-elite-samsung-galaxy-s9-plus/ They say that it has full adhesion. So if it actually works well they supply a lifetime warranty. It is 49.99 so it's expensive but I'm going to give it a shot.
Whitestone was great but with a long installation process, I went for it twice, I'm going to (no offense) pass on Whitestone for my s9+. If there was a tempered glass product for curved screens that was as easy to install as a flat screen tempered glass screen protector, and like a conventional screen protector has good full glass adhesion I'm going to go for that option.
I have tried almost 5 brands but still did not get satisfactory result.
Just pre ordered the white stone. It was the best on the note 8.
Upgrading from two S7 edge to two S9+ (already pre-ordered) I never tried tempered glass on my smartphones because I found them a little too expensive to justify given that I have to buy two glass protectors. The OTAO 3D glass protector looked to be an "inexpensive" way to give tempered glass a try, but someone on the S9 thread about Screen Protectors complained about the OTAO falling off his phone whenever he took it out of his pocket. Some folks have also mentioned that this protector doesn't fully cover the curve edge which makes it "case friendly", but this also make it less appealing. These two negative findings put some doubt in my mind about ordering this specific protector for now. Folks using the S8+ have given this protector a "good" review on Amazon. But I also don't know if most of these reviews are for the "old" version or for the "Updated" version on this protector for the S8+. If there's someone here that has used the "Updated" OTAO protector on a Galaxy phone with a curved screen (preferably the S8+)... can you tell us about your experience? I guessthe "Updated" version is the one being used for the S9+.
I have used Zagg's Invisible HD shields on all my smartphones. I found them to be durable and compatible with many cases. Including cases for the S7 edge.Installing them is a little complex and you need to get it right the first time in order to avoid bubbles and the edges from lifting. I had to return the one that I installed on my wife's S7 edge once because a corner kept lifting and getting dust under it. All I had to do was return the old one and they send me a new one. Once I installed the replacement correctly, it has stayed on her phone for over a year without any issues. I'm waiting for it to be available in Amazon as they're usually discounted. The Zagg website indicates that they're sold out of their Invisible HD shield for the S9+

OTAO have two versions, a case-friendly one, which has to leave a couple of areas exposed for the case to fit, and a full cover one. I have had the case friendly one on my S8 and been very pleased with it. Never popped off. One person complaining his came off should not be taken to be evidence that there is something inherently wrong. There could be two reasons - either his was slightly faulty with not enough glue - no company has 100% quality control - or maybe he didn't press it on hard enough when he fitted it.
I've had two. The first one cracked when I dropped the phone on a marble floor but the phone screen was unmarked. Even though it cracked, it did not pop off. The edges still stuck. The second one is still on the phone.

Thanks for your reply... The complains put "some doubt" in my mind about the protector, I had not concluded that there was something inherently wrong with the OTAO. I posted here because I wanted to hear comments from other folks before I made my decision.
I didn't know that OTAO also made a protector that fully covers the screen, but after you mentioned it... I searched further and also found the OTAO Full Screen Coverage - Double Strong 3D in Amazon. At the same $12 price as the Case Friendly. At this price point, I might get one of each and test them with the case I'm going to use. I'm looking for a slim TPU cases from Spigen, EasyAcc, ESR and Caseologic. Currently, I use a Ringke Slim case with my S7 edge, but given the larger screen size of the S9+; I'd like a more protective setup. What case are you using on your S8 with the OTAO case friendly protector?... Thanks again.

For my gs8+, I've had good experiences with both the Otao TGSP and the newer full-adhesive ones.
Until a full-adhesive TGSP comes out for the gs9+ from a company I recognize, I'm gonna start with the Otao gs9+ TGSP.

What version of the OTAO are you using on your Note 8 [Case Friendly] or [Full Screen Coverage]? Are you using the "Updated" version that I believe has "full-adhesive"? Are you also using a case and if so... which one?

I'll be working on a buyers guide today and tomorrow it will be on my channel.. In the mean time I posted a thread about a 10 dollar dome glass copy from the supplying factory and their are a few full adhesive glass protectors I'm tested.. All the others are the same generic ones just like the S8/N8

Galaxy S9/S9 Plus Screen Protector Buyers Guide

Hey guys, For those of you who don't know me I have a channel GravX Reviews... I started it after becoming utterly pissed off with Tempered glass screen protectors for curved screens. Finally Found a good one for the S7 Edge in Whitestone Dome glass...But i wanted something you just slap on with no crazy installation...My channel was a result of that search... Hopefully this can help clarify and save you money ( I'm also writing this so you don't have to watch the video I am working on) The glass i talk about can rang from.20mm to .50mm in thickness..most are .33 mm.
This Knowledge is from testing over 400 kinds of Tempered glass over 4 years , needless to say i have a small idea of what Im talking about-( all from amazon-ebay or allibaba) im sure some of you will be ignorant enough to tell me I'm wrong and that glass truly is different..That's fine your entitled to your opinion .. All I'm doing is trying to help save people money and frustration- I wont try and sell you any product... Ive used the case friendly version for a long time because it was cheap and easy to pop off and on.. I noticed some touch issues...with all of them but i just got used to it.. In the end you get what ever you want. this is just here as a guide
All of these items can be bought on alibaba for 10-20cents for the edged adhesive ones in bulk...the re-sellers send them custom graphics for their boxes and then sell them like they designed it...( so stupid) kind of like zero lemons 5500 MAH battery case... its the same one as the 5500 MAH cases on ebay-
1st. Types of Glass screen protectors for the Galaxy S9/Plus or any protector for that matter..
Case Friendly ( any one that looks like this will be virtually identical to the next ( it might have thicker or slimmer black silk printing) ( which is the Black or white or what ever color they use) They also come in clear
https://www.amazon.com/Protector-Ca...9d-20&linkId=0e4c23f42c372db5a43d5221f96f8d2f
Pros-
Can be cheap
Works with most cases- But not all... UAG <<cough cough>>
Easy and fast to put on
Will protect your phone
oleophobic coating is cheap and comes off fast.
Cons
Edged Adhesive ( they will try to trick you by saying "full Coverage
Micro Dot matrix - AKA "pixel grid Technology" such a stupid term
"precision Grid matrix" "Perfect touch Grid" Its all the same stupid ****- Its placed into screen protectors that don't have full adhesive to assist in the identification of touch on the display by the digitizer panel
Re sellers grossly over charge for them and add Bull**** terms such as shatterproof...or ballistic or bulletproof...explosion proof- Anti Fingerprint ETC
2. Case friendly Full adhesive
They made cheap soft glass ones for the S8 and note 8 and they sucked...one side always had air bubbles.
The new Version is supposedly Hard Glass- Zagg is making the Curve glass elite
https://www.zagg.com/us/en_us/invis...protector/glass-curve-elite-samsung-galaxy-s9
I have it on order and will test it when i get it next week.
Im sure if the product is good it will have more sellers... Zagg does have a lifetime warranty which cost 5 -10 dollars to ship depending where you are, which if the product is good might make a worthy investment...But time will tell
2A- Case Friendly Privacy screens-
https://www.amazon.com/Protector-Ve...9d-20&linkId=ea6e28cfd2269ce9a43cb5ecdab9a914
Identical to the the above mentioned case friendly ones but with an extra layer of Privacy Film ( which makes it thicker
They all have edged adhesive and they are all the same product..Nothing special between sellers- NO MATTER what they say
3. Full Coverage Screen Protectors ( otterbox will sell an Alpha glass version of this that might be cut Short like the Galaxy Note 8 Version...But its the same thing...just a few inches shorter ( all pros and Cons Apply)
So many of these flood the market and they are all the same garbage with Edge strips of adhesive ( the ones for the S9 / S9 plus have thicker bands of edged adhesive...but it will still cause issues..
https://www.amazon.com/Protector-Co...9d-20&linkId=4e1080c6fdae78ae656456b35cc76aae
Pros-
Covers your entire display
Cheap
Easy to put on
Cons
Doesn't work with a lot of cases
( it does work with Casemate ToughStand and ToughMag)
Sellers overcharge for the same ****ty product ( while adding flashy words like Bullet proof or 11 lbs of protection)
Will have touch issues with the screen due to edged adhesive ( it works OK..but some people will notice a degradation of sensitivity
Micro Dots
4. Full Coverage Full adhesive
This is the same as the regular full screen one before but with Full adhesive according the seller
https://www.amazon.com/Improve-Sens...9d-20&linkId=dd8fec54bddaa1443f4d9fc10dee4983
All the Pros as the Full screen Coverage version... Just with " Full screen Adhesive"
Cons if the adhesive is truly full screen would only be case compatibility
5. Case Friendly UV Glass kits ( whitestone Dome Glass and Alibaba Generic Kit)
Whitestone- https://www.amazon.com/Protector-Gl...9d-20&linkId=bdf7dd57946aa39b9e1d31c7b35156df
Alibaba Generic ( you need to buy 10 minimum order to get them
https://www.alibaba.com/product-det...l?spm=a2700.7724838.2017115.30.466f2b24loSX3N
UV KIT
Pros- Japanese Glass All the above use Chinese glass - Yes you can See and feel a difference -
Crystal Clear - no Micro Dot)
Oleophobic coating is high quality and can last up too 6 months depending on usage
Hydrophobic coating can last even longer.
Sealed due to the LOCA adhesive used , meaning no water or dirt can get under the glass
Cons
Expensive
Complicated installation
Easy to mess up
If you get dirt under it your screwed
Cannot be replaced after curing is done ( well..it can but its not worth the headache cleaning it up)
If done wrong and the safeguards aren't in place you can get adhesive in your speaker grill ( use the Speaker covers included)
The whitestone Kit while a lot more expensive then the allibaba generic kit does have a warranty and Whitestone is actively involved in customer satisfaction- they were the first to market this..
White stone has the Speaker Cover stickers which are an awesome touch and requested feature by alot of us. I dont know if the Generic One has them.. I didn't see it on the Images and they supplier has not answered me yet... Since the seller is the factory that makes them for whitestone it should - i think its shaddy AF that whitestones Factory Supplier is selling the Dome Kit unbranded and at a huge price difference...but i cant say im surprised.
If i missed anything please let me know
I didn't include FILM protectors..because they are useless and i didnt include liquid coating kits becuase they are essentially snake oil and will help with water and fingerprint resistance at the most... I will however be testing these products too see if they change in the past 3 years. I hope this helps you guys! Feel free to drop by the channel and show some love and support ( only if you want )

Are there any good glass without dot matrix for those with extra Whitestone LOCA or DIY LOCA?
Cheaper UV light solution aka whitestone dome from china can be found here, and you can buy only one if you want, not 10 minimum like alibaba.
Also full screen adhesive protector aka the Zagg curve elite can be found for half the price here as well.
I bought both and will report back after i receive them.

Don't get the one you linked from Amazon. That one only covers the flat part of the screen. I had something similar on my S7 Edge and you can see the rainbow effect along the edges of the screen protector.
The one on Aliexpress is $29 with UV light and $25 without. I might consider trying it.

Sorry. I wasn't being clear enough in my description. What I mean was that the screen protector doesn't cover the edge screen where it starts to curve down, only the part where it is completely flat. When you swipe to bring out the edge panel, you will have to run your finger up the edge of the screen protector, like a speed bump.
I figured that was the case, probably same vendor as the amazon one as they all come out of China.

Thanks for this excellent write-up. I'm curious why you say film protectors are useless? I have been using ZAGG's invisibleSHIELD HD Clarity on my S7 and found it to be excellent. In particular, I use a thin case (Ringke) which only provides a slight recess for the screen. So when I've dropped the phone square on the screen, I've noticed that in spite of landing on pebbles or rocks, the invisible shield took the brunt of the force and eventually "healed" itself (warped back into shape) with no damage to the glass.
I've been contemplating moving to a hard glass screen protector for a while, but have been very pleased with the level of protection I've been getting from these invisible shields. What are negatives versus glass?
The invisshield seems to curve around the glass for their note 8 one so maybe their s9 one will curve as well? They use a full adhesive method but without the plastic placeholder and at $20 ish. I haven't ordered one yet. Hoping Gravx can compare it to the other protectors out their. Guy might send one out for review to Gravx if he asks for one.

I don't think any of them actually do. That's why I don't like the black boarder. I ordered a Bodyguardz to try

Removing my Whitestone after the curring process and cleaning it was fairly easy. Soaked the glass in 70% isopropyl alcohol for an hour or so. I was easily able to scrape the glue off with my fingernail. Soaked it a bit longer and then used a microfiber clothe soaked in the alcohol to further clean it and get more adhesive off. (all adhesive was removed) Reapplied the screen protector with the 2nd bottle and it went on perfect. YMMV
Do not buy this product
Despite following the instructions to the letter this product did not sit flat on my phone , rather it only stuck in the middle.
I strongly advise to avoid the invisibleshield glass cover for s9+ and wait for something better to come along. Do NOT buy
Zagg is honestly a RIP off. They always lie and use marketing bs. A ton of large youtubers over 1mil subs have proven this multiple times. I'm surprised the community at xda one of the more knowledgable forums out there keep buying it. Not to mention our own GravX doing some good comparisons for us.
Save yourself the $50 and the $15 shipping replacement.
Here is the Klearlook tempered glass. I have provided photos and I will update about the touch sensitivity experience along with if the glass stays onto the display or if it has cracked. In my limited experience, the feeling of the tempered glass does feel different than having no tempered glass. The glass is compatible with the Spigen Rugged Crystal Slim Clear Case. It does appear to be similar or exactly like the Caseology glass since it comes with that installation protector.
Edit: It is a pixel dot matrix screen protector. So far, I haven't noticed any touch sensitivity issues yet but I will continue to update.
Edit 2: Touch sensitivity hasn't been an issue for the past few days so far. I also used pointer option in developer tools and I didn't see any dead spots. Tempered glass hasn't cracked. Oleophobic coating is not good. Tempered glass is very reflective and can make scenarios such as looking at the phone for navigation to be a visual challenge.
Edit 3: It has been a few weeks since I have owned the screen protector. It has not cracked or lifted. I haven't had issues with touch sensitivity (keep in mind I have increase touch sensitivity option on). Seems like a dust magnet. I will continue to use this tempered glass as the positives out weights the negatives. In the end, it protects my phone and it has not got in the way of my touch screen experience.
Edit 4: I dropped my phone at the gym with a case on and part of the top is chipped. The rest of the screen's integrity is in tact. Oleophobic coating is considered decent.
Edit 5: A few months since I have owned the phone and tempered glass. After I dropped it from the gym, I replaced it with a new one. I only have touch screen issues sometimes (typing on keyboard). The tempered glass has not peeled off. It has not randomly cracked. Decent to poor oleophobic coating. You can see the finger prints easily. Not difficult to see when using it as a GPS.

Do you hear popping noise or clicking noise when you type with this screen on? It's probably edge adhesive, and not good like the rest. To see the dot matrix, you have to look really careful.

Recommendation for case & display protection

Hey guys,
I am looking for the best display protection film for my S10+.
I don't think it should cover the selfie cameras because of quality loss. Also it should be compatible with a case.
There are always so many of them and it takes hours to compare the reviews on amazon to find the best one.
If you know any good cases I would be very thankful for sharing. I need a thin and simple one.

I don't know in what universe your case is slim and simple Look to the attachment; that is whats simple and slim. Yours is more like surviving a worlwar
The problem with tempered glass covers for rounded phone displays is always that the glass doesn't fit 100% to the screen so they put 2 lines of glue on it instead of using adhesion & cohesion like the films do.
Don't get me wrong, I like glass more than films but there are no good glasses for phones with rounded edges.
But thank you very much for your help
For screen protecter i use Alien Surface™
Anyone have any feedback on the R-Just or Gundam cases?

With regards to display protection I would strongly recommend these I had the stock screen protector till it got too scratched then I got this one looks just as good no bubbles don't even notice it on there most of the time. The installation is a bit complicated but well worth the extra effort.

It would be great to know what Samsung puts on it. The OEM screen protector works well. The reviews on Amazon for every one of the protectors are awful. The IQ Shield has the best reviews of the bunch, but I am hesitant based on the negative ones.
I figure I'll use the OEM one until it is too scratched and then live dangerously with it naked.
Regarding thin cases - I've liked the Spigen Thin Fit - but it breaks easily. The Spigen Rugged Armor is a bit thicker but much more durable. For the s10, I am using a UAG - but it feels more like a tank - which strangely enough I am liking. Not too bulky and it gives a good grip.
Try Whitestone Dome Glass.. I heard its good.
I'm using my S10+ without any case and screen protector just like my old iphone x and s8..
DO you use them on the original screen protector?

Screen protector

I'm looking for glass with quality similar to Whitestone Dome.
Anyone found any?
Hm... Have only experience with one glass protector so far and it's bad.
I've purchased this one and despite its perfect fit, no bubbles nor dust particles, the response to touch is dreadful.
I'm thinking if glass for OnePlus 10 Pro will fit X5 Pro.
Ok, so if no one knows I've checked.
Yes Whitestone Dome Glass for OnePlus 10 Pro is perfect for Oppo Find X5 Pro.
Does it affect touch sensitivity?
The 9H glass protector that I've applied doesn't adversely influence the 'slide'-actions response but it annihilates the capability to process 'tap'-actions.
I thought I'd just need to get used to harder pressing but even after a couple of weeks, it's just frustrating to constantly having to retry each tap over and over again.
So, now I'm wondering if this is just inherent to the product properties of (hardened) glass protectors out there and I'd better go for foil again.
Or give another brand glass protector a chance.

Having to press hard and multiple times in order to trigger a response was too frustrating so I removed the glass screen protector and replaced it with a TPU one from Crocfol.
What a relief! I just wish I'd make this choice sooner as it'd have save me the €'s spent on the useless glass thing.
Also looking for a screen protector since the Gorila Glass quality is really poor. Around 6 months of use and I'll already see lots of small scratches...
Anymore recommendations on the TPU ones?
Best full glued tempered glass Display protector I could find in germany. Even the fingerprint scanner works great. https://www.subtel.de/2x-displaysch...?listtype=search&searchparam=Oppo find x5 pro

I normally use Ibywind TPU screen protectors... I've got one for the 5X Pro, but haven't installed it yet (happy with factory). Never had any issues with Ibywind stuff on previous phones, and dead easy to fit well due to the charging adapter plug they supply to line it all up
