whatsapp backup from android to Lumia - Microsoft Lumia 950/950 XL

Hi, I have recently purchased my Lumia 950. Before activating whatsapp, I want to know if I save my whatsapp backup on sd card from my android, will I be able to restore it on my Lumia 950 whatsapp.
Thanks and Regards.

That way i think u cannot save it, but possibly u may archive everything to the server, and then open it up on ur new Lumia. Congrats on the purchase btw.

I've tried to do this too, but on my Nexus 5 i don't have SD slot.
as far as i understand, you need to take backup on SD , than put the SD on 950 and install Whatsapp.
it should find the backup automatically

U can archive everything to WhatsApp servers.

[Q] How to backup WP7 Short Messages. MS Myphone Service not Working.

Hi all,
Since MS Myphone service is not working with WP7 for backing up the short messages, is there any way or a software to backup all contacts, SMS, and others. Most importantly SMS. How can I get a backup for SMS messages.??
Thanks a lot for any advice in advance..
Does anybody know where the sms are stored in file system? If we knew this maybe we could just backup those files via Touchxperience file explorer (Beta).
I posted in another thread about this, because I was also looking for a way to backup my messages. I didn't really find a "real" way. But what I found is, in my opinion, better than nothing. I like to keep my SMSs for sentimental reasons, so if you only want to be able to read them again in the future, I have a theory of how to do so. I took my SD card out of my HD2 and booted WP7, all of my contacts, messages, account info, was gone. I put the SD back in and it was all back to normal. So, I assume that if you back up your SD card with EASEUS partition manager (I think there is a tutorial on this in the dual booting android and wp7 thread) you can keep the backup on your computer and save it for later. I haven't actually tried this, but because nobody seems to be working on this, I thought it might be worth mentioning.

It's true.
Works fine for me. I use it to backup apps, however.
Good post. It never hurts to do a backup. But it doesn't help when you upgrade the build, all messages etc will be lost.
Edit; Looked at easeus partition manager and it seemed that the only way to copy a disk partition is to create a new partition on your hard disk, thus erasing the whole hard disk! How do you do it Domenukk?
Also I may be wrong about losing all data when upgrading eg to nodo. If this is possible to do a backup, after upgrading the ROM the backed up sdcard could be re-inserted, it might work! Dont know
Edit 2; found thread titled "[Q] Backing up or Imaging SD card partitions" which explains how to backup to hard disk using ease-us. Another poster suggests using a usb stick or external hard drive instead of precious internal one.
a while ago there were rumurs of Myphone for WP7
http://wmpoweruser.com/my-phone-for-windows-phone-7-pictured/
Has there been any updates?
Right now this is the only thing that is preventiong me from making my HD2 with WP7 my main phone.
you could use "copy and paste" to copy each sms message to Office, then put the file in Dropbox and retrieve on your laptop.
I have tried this and only the message gets copied, not the sender or date/time. you would have to add this for every text in Office
It is useful though for important stuff.
If you download apps via Zune to your phone, they are remembered when you change your ROM, though doesn't work for XApps.
Contacts- saved to sim or synched via windows live account.
Come on thebranded, dive in
hi, its going to be stored somewhere, i backup my programs data files, even after a reflash and upgrade i can use the backups to restore the data for the apps, works great for things like petrol usage, fitness programs etc
anyhow, the SMS files must be located somewhere on the card as well, why dont we get to gether, get a sms message and record the time stamp, turn off the phone and then search the phone looking for files edited at that time stamp
i thnk you can just use zune and sync it

as i said, it doesnt backup SMS messages. If you were about to update the device it would do it, but we cant, and we probably shouldnt even if we could.

[Q] Thinking of installing WP7 some questions

Been on stock rom with a few addon from the early days, now the phones out of warranty i am thinking of hspl'ing it and taking the plunge to make it a better phone.
Just wanted to ask a few questions if someone can help.
1. If I install hspl will my win 6.5 stay intact until I decide to move over to WP7?
2. Can I backup my contacts, Pictures, sms's, music ect to import into WP7?
(can I also copy pics etc from my memory card to my pc and back to memory after WP7 formats it?
3. As there is no turn by turn navigation software I was thinking of installing dual boot with android on memory card to run google maps (good idea or not) ?
4. Is WP7 worth the switch? over 6.5
Thanks in advance for any advice/help
Here some short answers:
1) Yes, no problem at all.
2) The only thing I was not able to move to WP7 were SMS´s. For everything else there is a simple solution
3) Check this tutorial for the dual boot solution
4) Many say yes, many prefer Android. After all, it´s up to you.

1. Nope. WP7 will be flashed on the internal memory of the phone and WM6.5 will be erased. You can however flash back WM6.5 at any given time, so you have a fallback if needed.
2. You can, but you must do some things 1st
- Sync contacts with Outlook.
- Export contacts as csv file from Outlook.
- Import resulting csv in Gmail (create a gmail account if you don't have one already). You can of course also import the contacts in Windows Live if you don't want Gmail for some reason. Gmail is just the more universal solution as it will sync contacts with Android as well
- After you install WP7 set up your Gmail and all contacts will be imported over the air.
- Pictures and music should be backuped up to your PC prior to WP7 installation. Sync them over to WP7 with Zune. It's fast and easy
3. Who told you there is no turn by turn navigation Look out for Navigon Select. Features some excellent maps. Of course you can also dual boot with Android if you prefer Google Maps or some other sat nav software.
4. IMO it is worth it and I fell in love with the smooth interface and the speed of WP7. But it's personal preference. My wife for example hates the tiles

To be clear, the OP asked about installing HSPL, while deciding whether or not to go to WP7 - that can be done without affecting WM6.5.
1. If I install hspl will my win 6.5 stay intact until I decide to move over to WP7?
That depends entirely which SPL version you're running right now. If you're running a 3.14 ROM, you will have 3.14 SPL which is incompatible with HSPL, so you'll have to downgrade to a previous official ROM via the SD card method.
2. Can I backup my contacts, Pictures, sms's, music ect to import into WP7?
(can I also copy pics etc from my memory card to my pc and back to memory after WP7 formats it?
Yes, but there's a few additional steps you need to take. I managed to get everything but contacts moved with Zune. The contacts are easy enough to move with a SIM card or Outlook, for example.
3. As there is no turn by turn navigation software I was thinking of installing dual boot with android on memory card to run google maps (good idea or not) ?
I'd just run a NAND 'droid ROM, personally. There's nothing WP7 offers that Android doesn't do easier and better.
4. Is WP7 worth the switch? over 6.5
Over from 6.5? Maybe. Over Android? Definitely not.
For me Wp7 didnt work... i prefer Android. Still a bit green OS
Thanks Guys.
Think I might go with my original plan and install WP7 on rom and run Android from mem card and then play with them to see which i prefer.
Just got to work out the backing up bit now for my email accs and messages etc (already backed up sim card to pc so pictures etc are safe)
will let you know how I get on
Managed to back everything up except text messages, have scoured net and seems there is no way to import them into mp7
what are MS doing? they bring out a new OS but don`t supply the option to use one of their own tools to help people move over to the new os, this will alienate a few buyers.

[Q] Whatsapp on KitKat...doesnt work..

Hi,
yesterday i installed the last build of Kitkat from CM 11. It works very good but i have still one Problem. I installed the Whatsapp apk from Playstore and want wo authentifcate with SMS but this doesnt work. He said the SMS Authentification doesnt work for this phone.
The telephone authetification works great.
The other one Problem ist to Restore the Whole Data from SD Card. At my Opinion i must only copy the old whatsapp data to sd Card. On start of Whatsapp the app scans the SD Card an found an restore an recover it.
He didnt find my Whatsapp Folder on ExtSD Card and also on Internal SD Card.
Hopefully someone could help.
Thx Matthias

Whatsapp - do they do this on purpose

Android: 5.0
I am really at the end of my tether here - I would really appreciate some help.
I want to factory reset my phone. Before I do I want to do a thoroughly comprehensive backup of all the whatsapp data on my phone (call logs/media/chats etc.).
I installed whatsapp. Added an SD card to the phone months later.
I specifically prefer doing local backups using my computer or SD card only.
How can I check that whatsapp is indeed backing up chats to the sd card. If t is not - can I make it do this somehow.
If not - whats the best way to get this all done as a local backup please.

Titanium backup man.
Nothing beats it.
I understand what you're saying.
But I need to understand the app and how to manage this in the future.
Is there a way to check if whatsapp is actually making local backups to my SD card?
If not - how can I make it do this.
It shouldn't be so hard - that I am forced to use cloud backup over local backups.

How do you change your internal folder location to SD card?

I'm guessing it's because of the latest firmware update, but I used to have all my folders (Documents, Music, Pictures, Download, Textra just to name a few) default save location to my SD card. I no longer can. Now, the only one I can get to go there is just my pictures. This made it easy for me when I needed to wipe phone and start fresh again. Does anyone know if I would need to Root my phone in order to override this and do it on my own? I have rooted in the past, but haven't in years due to the freedom we had. Any help or info would be great!
Thanks!
