Best infrared app - Because the built in one sucks - Honor 8 Guides, News, & Discussion

Hi, i was happy when found out that Honor 8 has built in IR, afret using a built in app i wasn't happy
The built in app i very poor and doesn't work with most of my stuff or works with some functions only.
I tried:
Anymote - turns out it works really good, just make sure too find a good model of your equipement.
I bought paid non ad version, it might take some time to customize your remote to work like you want it, but in my opinion it's worth a while
Peel Smart Remote - thats a NO GO - none of remotes worked
ASmart Remote IR - didn't work too
Smart Remote IR - same here
Hope someone will find it useful
Paid Anymote Version Link <-- The one i tested
Free Anymote Version Link <-- This should work too

Sure app seems to work. Although I have to maneuver more with my phone then I did with my S6.

Thanks for the advice. Gonny try out Anymote. The built-in is a BIG disapointment. Just not enough device support in it. Im coming from a LG G4 and their "Smart Remote" is miles better than Huaweis. LG's app managed to controll All my devices, from tv to reciever and projector. With Huaweis I'm glad if I can turn off a tv.

It will be helpful since I lost the remote oc the TV

Peel remote now works awesome with honor 8!

Never had a single problem with the built-in.

EMUI remote works great on LG tv.

Lots of brands actually.

I don't recognize the problem with the built-in one. You can even program single buttons by blasting your phone's IR with the original remote.

With the built in app I was not able to connect to my home theater receiver..

Have you tried any IR app with learning ability, like Unified Remote?

archos has a remote app that lets you use your phone as a remote for the archos gen 8 series.
anything like it for the iconia? much easier to pause from the couch then getting up and going to the tablet

+1 This would be very useful, mainly for when connected via HDMI to a TV or playing music in a different room, then just use phone as a remote.
Point of interest, the game Crazy Snowboard from the market has an option where you can play on your tablet while controlling your snowboarder from an Android phone via wifi. Figured I'd mention it since this is along the same line as what we're looking for.

Digging up an old thread here. I use TeamViewer to access my other PC's from Android devices, but am looking for something where I could access the tablet from my PC. Is anyone aware of an app to remote access the Androids?
B to the izzump!

Havent tried it but this: market.android.com/details?id=com.iandrobot.andromouse.lite
or this: market.android.com/details?id=berserker.android.apps.blueputdroid
would probally work. Basically they just turn your phone into a bluetooth mouse and keyboard. Theres many other apps like this, those are just two that i picked.
Im sure there are vnc servers apps out there for android. you could install a vnc client on your phone then remote in to the tablet with the vnc server running. That would be one way of doing it. That's not very elegant but would work.

Not likely what I'm looking for as I would not be near the tablet, and even if I were, it's not likely I would use this rather than just picking up the tablet.

I thought of this, and would work maybe 90% of the time. The other 10% of the time is if my tablet happens to be somewhere other than my house as it would then be on a different network and the client would not have a way to get to it, unless there are VNC servers that have a web service that broadcasts the tablets current location, similar to dyn-dns.

Hi,
I've found an app to control an android device from another android device. You have to install the app "DroidMote Client" on the device from which you want to control and install "DroidMote Server" on the device which you want to control. I'm using this on my HTC Desire to control my Transformer while it is connected to my TV. It works really good with this devices
Look at YouTube

Bluepurdroid is free on the market and works over bluetooth. You can choose to use a mousepointer to navigate your iconia, keyboard also works. You can also use a sixaxis controller. Haven't tried this on my A500 but works great on my ps3. The mouse and keyboard works just fine, like using a bluetoothkeyboard.
Great app for controlling the a500 while using it with a HDTV.
Something like teamviewer or vpn server?
hm while using team viewer to connect to pc in the popup window on pc there is a no. which is used to cennect to the device. Did someone tried to use this no. to connect back to the team viewer on the tablet?
i've been using DroidMote between my Iconia and my Fascinate for months running netflix and google music on my tv. definitely don't regret not getting a google tv device! ha. it runs great and yes you can use a wireless (usb) keyboard and mouse but most of us also own an android phone and they're much more convenient and one handed. just thought i'd put my two cents out there for anyone stumbling across this thread. totally worth the money, replaced my wii for HD netflix streaming!

S4 IR Blaster App

Hi lads,
The standard IR blaster app has become a frustration for me as it keeps asking me to set a region and set up TV channels - which is irrelevant for me. I need to use the IR blaster a few TVs at work and the projector(s)
I do not need all the TV channel functions. Just want to set up different rooms, something like the below:
-Meeting Room 1 (Samsung TV)
-Meeting Room 2 (Sony TV)
-Meeting Room 3 (Projector)
Is there another app on the market that uses the standard IR blaster as a remote without all the extra tv channel functions? Perhaps my understanding of the standard app isn't quite there...
Thanks
I solved this by not picking any of the regions/countries in the list, clear the data and try the same.
When the region picker appears just look for "unlisted" or "none of the above", cant remember exactly what it said.

Using a smartphone/tablet as a mouse

I found an app while searching for a way to use my tablet as a bluetooth mouse for my rooted Fire TV. I have a wireless mouse and keyboard I can use on it, but since I don't have a hub yet, I can only use one USB device at a time. If I can get Apps2SD to work with a flash drive, at least to see if it would actually work, I'd want to be able to keep that particular drive plugged in. I also use the Fire TV remote on my Tab 3 8.0 for the keyboard, but there are some screens where a mouse would come in handy. Thanks to anyone who can point me in the direction, in case the one app I found doesn't work out.
Wukong Romote is the app we are all using. It has a mouse module. Works well. Yes it's misspelled on purpose by the developer. .

Droidmote works very well. I haven't installed romote, but I believe its a good option for those without root.
Using wukong because it doesn't require root. My AFS isn't rooted. I heard droidmote does.

This is a new app (I think), and it's much smoother and more fluid than wukong. It doesn't have scrolling, but the dev has said it will be included in a future update.

Anything for iOS devices?

NSTV Remote Control is a HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT! Use AFTV remote instead?

The Nvidia Shield TV remote is a huge disappointment! It doesn't have a MENU button. The main reason why I wanted a remote was to use it with Kodi. Has anyone tried pairing an Amazon Fire TV remote to their Nvidia Shield TV? Have you tried it using it with Kodi?

That's weird that the 1st gen AFTV bluetooth remote doesn't work? Which gen Fire Stick remote did you use?
ive got a fire tv 4k remote which works fine...
so what are e the button options on the nvidia remote?
Are you telling me the buttons that look like Back and Home above the microphone button don't actually function as Back and Home?
Nstv remote is awesome, that's my opinion. Home and back button work without issues. Holding round middle button on kodi 16 (kodi 16 only) appears menu option (on file movie, picture audio, addon etc pressing and bit holding appears options/menu . Nstv remote is minimalist comparing with other remotes out there and major factors works flawlessly on kodi 16 (v16 < only)

NSTV Remote microphone input
I actually love the NSTV remote, i think it has everything it needs.
Android as a platform has moved away from hardware menu buttons already anyway so I don't see why this should be an exception.
Is anyone here trying to use it with full android rather than the stock firmware though?
I am, and everything works (even volume control and headphone audio output!) except the microphone.
If anyone has any suggestions for how I could go about debugging the microphone input, I would very much appreciate it as it's the last thing preventing my setup from being perfect.
The message I see when I press the voice input button on the remote is "Can't open microphone" (screenshot at end of this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=64552147&postcount=14 )
Android is clearly just not recognising it as an audio input device, but I'm not sure why.
has anyone tried the new apple remote? does that work
If you want extra control with the NSTV remote I suggest you install Xposed and the module Xposed Additions. I have set up to have the enter button long press to have pause\play, long press back for menu, long press home for power menu. You can also set up double and triple click. I love this remote now, more than my FireTV remote

Which version of the firmware are you using on the Shield TV? 3.0 or a previous version? Stock, StockRestyle or Full Android?
How did you pair it? Using the standard procedure, or do you need a specific app for Wifi-direct?
Thanks
..
JJ-KwiK said:
Stock. 3.0. You need to pair it like it's a shield accessory, not Bluetooth. No external apps are needed.

I just saw that trick on another thread, got the game controller to work but not the Fire TV 4K remote.
EDIT: now it's working with my second Fire TV 4K remote. So I suppose there is a problem with the first one I tried.
Thanks.
..
Did anyone try it on full Android Marshmallow?
If that would be working, including the voice search function, that would be great because shield game controllers aren't working wireless on full Android.

I need a third party infrared remote app compatible with the LE727.

Is anyone using one?
try peel

Peel doesn't work on my X720.
No IR app will work on Pro 3 because it IR is not implemented via Android native IR API but with their own code.
Alternatives
So, I have tested the massive array of options that I have previously used over the past years.../and as you are likely guessing, NONE WORKED.
Now, that said....ANY IDEAS on how to get devices added that theuir default app doesnt support? None of their codes work for my devices, and yet...every other android devices I have owned was able to do the job with apps like, SMART REMOTE (my personal favorite...not affiliated).
Luckily, I have harmony and a hub...so it isnt the end of the world, but I would LOVE to get this IR functioning in my home.
Any update for this with the stock (non root) ROM?
You can create a custom remote with the stock app, and it will learn the IR signals from your other remotes. I set up a DirecTV remote this way on my phone. It's not a quick process, the button selection is limited and the layout options are also a bit clunky and limited, but it at least gives you the option to add support for devices not included in the app by default.
Sent from my LEX727 using Tapatalk
My hint is to use the LineageOS 14.1 rom by Team Superluminal. Ir blaster full working with the AnyMote app (and other apps). The rom isn't rooted, then most no-root apps are working. Give it a a try, it's simple, near stock android N, it works!
