[Xperia Z2] Quick Charge 2.0 now SUPPORTED??? [23.5.A.1.291] [NO] - Xperia Z2 General

We all know that the Qualcomm Hardware which is in our Sony Xperia Z2 theoraticlaly support Quick Charge 2.0! However, we also know that Sony blocked this feature by simply not adding the quick charge code in our OS which is obviously Android. BUT since the new and final Marshmallow 6.0.1 Update 23.5.A.1.291 rolled for the Z2 there have been some rumors about this topic. These rumors are about potential quick charge 2.0 support for this device. Well, I did some testing using the new Quick Charger and the normal one from Sony. I bought the QC 3.0 model because it supports QC2.0 as well. Let`s find out if quick charge 2.0 indeed work on the XPERIA Z2. The charging may be different for your Z2 because I use different settings and background apps. CHECK OUT THE RESULTS AND THEN READ THE CONCLUSION! SPOILER! YOU WILL BE DISAPPOINTED :crying:

CONCLUSION:
Well now you saw the results. What do you think? I am sorry that I have to say that but no, Quick Charge 2.0 isn`t supported in build 23.5.A.1.291! If Quick Charge 2.0 would be supported we could charge our Z2 with 2000mA = 2A instead of only ~1200mA. But you can still charge your phone faster using jackos quick charge zip which allows you to get a charging speed up to 1650mA while charging wiht a QC2.0 charger. @Jackos method works on Android Lollipop and Android Marshmallow (inlcuding all builds). The Bootloader can be LOCKED AND UNLOCKED! Check out the thread, if you are using a wuick charger it`s totally worth it! Yes, I know, we all hoped that we can now charge our phone with 2A but build 291 was officially the last one and we won`t get real Quick Charge 2.0 unless somebody builds a kernel which is based on build 291.

Do you feel that the battery drains faster when charging with the quick charger rather than the normal sony charger. I once bought a tronsmart quick charge 2.0 charger it also gave high mA but in returned drained the battery faster.Any help will be appreciated.

i can tell you that tomorrow. i got the charger today and in austria it`s 18:30 now so i have to wait a few hours for checking that

Thanks for the quick reply. I will be waiting

I will flash the "Jackos_QuickCharge2.0_rev5.zip" from the Android 5.1.1 QC 2.0 hack and test if the charging is faster

Broken cable maybe? I'm on 4.4.2 Still and get max 1500Ma from the Sony charger and cable.
Only on 4.4.2 because I only just got this phone (Demo Unit) and had to flash stock Firmware

maybe. i try the 1m cable which got with the quick charger
but the comparison between quick charger and quick charger+zip is quite interesting. to be honest, when I look at these two result I don`t believe that sony provides us the quci kcharge 2.0 feature

i used QC 2.0 from 4 mouth ago when up top 6.0.1 and them working like you (using Quick Charge 2.0 by AUKEY(model PA-T2) + 1m cable + jackos_qcboost zip) 1600~1650 mAh, but i can't chaging to 2000~ mAh like thread hack qC 2.0 for 5.1.1

Charging up to 2000mA is only possible with kernel modifications.
BTW What is the purpose of this thread? This is nothing new and there is already a thread for enabling QC2.0 on Z2.
The new firmware .291 changes nothing in this regard.

Tronsmart Quick Charge 2.0 on Jackos Mod
This is what I'm getting using Tronsmart quick charge 2.0 on Rooted 291 thru usb.. Using magnetic cable it gives me 1600ma but not as stable as the usb port
It really charges faster..

By the way...I've been using Tronsmart quick charge 2.0 for Almost 1 Year and a Half now.. And still Rocks!!! Plan of getting Tronsmart 3.0 very Soon.. I'll try to compare

well because many people are confused right now. some say that 291 officially supports qc2.0 without your flashable zip and without the quick charge kernel for 5.1.1
this shows exactly what you mentioned. that nothing changed ^^
thats why I started this thread to compare and see if a quick charger really gets up to 2A while charging on 291 which would have shown us that qc works but even with your zip we only get around 1600mA which is good but not fully supported quick charge
and we all know that the full quick charge hack for the z2 only works on 5.1.1

there won`t be a difference. maybe the mA value is more stable while charging but it won`t increase...

does the battery drain faster while using quick charge 2.0 charger rather than the stock sony

Anyone know how to turn off this stupid "no full charge" thing it popped up saying phone won't fully charge to prolong battery life bla bla bla!

go into setting then about phone then status and there will be charging optimization turn that off.

lol two people didn`t fully read my thread. those two still think that qc22.0 is supported xd

I charge my Z2 with Jackos' zip @ 1700 mA, it takes around 1 hour from 20% to 100% So how can you say QC 2.0 isn't supported? Does it have to be 2000 mA?

Zenfone 2 Laser ZE550KL quick charge not working

I tried the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 quick charger on my ZE550KL 2GB ram model. The starting battery percent was 18% and after about half an hour the battery was still at 42%. I read on Qualcomm's website that SD410 supports quick charging 2.0. But the results speak otherwise. Could it be the software restricting quick charge?

The processor supports quick charge, but as far as I know, it's not implemented in the phone.
Yes I tried it too recently and the best rate at which phone charging was 1.1A (I used 2.1A charger, it took 3 hrs to charge from 10% to 100%)
Either we should all ask ASUS to enable fast charging in coming updates or wait for someone to build custom kernel that supports fast charging.
if it's any consolation, the moto g3 also doesn't supports quick charging. It also has SD 410. 3 hours is the time is takes for me to charge it to full with the provided OEM charger as well.

I had Moto G 2015 for couple of weeks. Didn't really use wall charger enough, I used USB charging through PC most of the times so can't really say about charging time.
I found some references online they claimed Moto g3 does charge faster, here is one...

As far as the laser is concerned, has anyone raised this issue with them on forums?
can't bear slow charging :crying:
It more than likely has to do with the USB configuration so I doubt any software update will enable that, but to be fair it could be a software based limitation. The USB component needs to allow for the high throughput though.
I personally don't feel too negative about the charge time because I came from an iPhone 5S that doesn't have quickcharging. I am sure for others it is like watching paint dry though.
What I find most disturbing about the phone is that, it came with a 1A charger. You can save some significant charging time if yo use a standard 2A charger.

Have you tested this? Devices will only pull what they are able from a charger so if it was designed to drawl up to 1.35A then even with a 2A charger it will only drawl 1.35A.

Anyone tried using qualcomm 2.0 certified quick chargers?
From this zentalk link, looks like my suspicion was correct. Event though SD 410 supports quickcharge, Asus limited the circuits etc. to not take 2A. Sad!
At least it charges faster on super saving mode.
35% in 60 mins on Normal mode
41% in 60 mins on super saving mode

My ZE601KL comes with a 2A charger in the box. I would say it charges quick when battery is real low and slows down when it close to 80% to complete the rest of the charging cycle.

What is the Battery Charging time with included Fast Charger for Z3+?

Hi, I bought Z3+ two days ago. Fast Charger is taking around 2 hours 15 mins to full charge the phone in switch on mode. Is it the actual time to charge it with Fast Charger?
If I connected it to PC USB Cable, the charging time is very slow. Is there is any tips improve it?
Thanks in advance
What fast charger are you using? 2:15 sounds reasonable to me though I never really stopped time on a quick charge 2.0. PC usb Ports output 500 mA, which is far less than even the stock sony charger outputs, so no there is no way to speed that up.

I use quick charger to charge my Z3+ almost every day.. The charging rate is around up 1% per minute.. Usually I turn off the phone while doing so because using quick charger makes the phone quiet hot compared to when using normal charger, and that makes the charging rate just a bit more faster..

Sorry, If "Fast Charger" is diff from "Quick Charger". I have received Quick Charger bundled with Z3+ which is taking more than 2 hours for full charge the phone.
Is it saying "quick charge 2.0" somewhere on the charger? It's a brand by Qualcomm and is faster than just a charger with high Ampere.
The point is that the charge which bundled with Z3+ just a normal charger!! ( well if you think it is)
All you need is a charger with qc2.0
Yep, although QC will wear out your battery faster.

I don't see the QC logo and quick charge 2.0 on your pic. And fast charge is not quick charge. My fast charge completed in about 2.5 hours. My quick charger does it in just over an hour. So I also got a quick charge battery booster as well. Both are by anker and I got on Amazon. Well worth it.

I think the charger is really a quick charger since it have multiple output settings.. But I have read on one of the threads here that QC2.0 does not much boost the charging time of Z3+.. Specially the dual sim variant.. Remember that sony only said that the single variant is the only one that is QC2.0 compatible..
I have encountered a problem with the charging speed of my Xperia Z3+. I have got the single SIM variant and according to the internet it should support QC 2.0. But in reality when I want to charge my device it doesn't feel like QC 2.0. For comparison I have downloaded an app called Ampere on my Z3+ and my Z3 Tablet Compact (its chipset also supports QC2.0 and it seems to work flawlessly) and it displays the current charging flow speed if I'm not wrong. I will attach two screenshots, the higher number of flow is from the tablet and the other of course from my Z3+. Anybody know what might be the problem? I have used the same charger with the same cable.

Quick Charge 3.0

Hey guys,
I love the charger that came with the phone and tracking the amps and volts I get about 2700mA at 4volts, which is about 12Watts, but never the full 18Watts (9Voltsx2Amps). But that's not bad, as it still charges real fast.
The big problem I have is that I have several Quick Charge 3.0 compatible chargers that offer the various Outputs----- Cable Output: QC 3.0 3.6-6V/3A, 6.2-9V/2A, 9.2-12V/1.5A (18W Max), but I only get about 700mA with 4Volts!
Is anybody else seeing this? Is it disabled by accident like the other ASUS Zenfones?

Yeah, same problem here as I mentioned in your thread on the Zentalk forums ... not impressed ... picked up an additional QC 3.0 wall charger, and a QC 3.0 car charger, and neither trigger the phone into "Fast Charging" mode ... they still charge fast - but the worst part of all is I'm not sure they're "talking" and tapering off the power as the battery fills up, because the phone is getting quite hot at the high end of the charge - and that is the main reason I went and spent money on QC 3.0 chargers - not as much for a faster charge as a charge that is easier on the battery so it hopefully has a good long life :-/

Charging speed

To power up, you consume Red Bull. But your phone just needs its adaptive fast charger. Rate this thread to express how quickly the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro can charge. A higher rating indicates that it charges extremely fast.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
2 Hour With Stock Charger
I didn't completely check the ratings and time but stock charger DOES NOT fast charge this phone. as the Stock Charger isnt QC2.0 Supported. However this mobile does support QC2.0 but you'll have to test QC2.0 Charger 1st. Not all QC2.0 Chargers work on this mobile. Its a little picky. So go to a shop check QC2.0 Chargers on your mobile. when you get circle Sign on notification bar along side battery then it means that device is fast charging. if not then there will be no circle around the charging sign (Flash sign)
also idt this mobile supports QC3.0 but i dont have tools to check amps volts of charger.
Lenovo's original QC3.0 charger doesnt work on this phone. I've tested. but Motorola's QC3.0 Charger works fine.
my rn5 pro , takes apporx 3 hours to charge completely!
So far I'm a bit slow, a little bit more than 3 hours to completely charge the phone. Might have something to do with the cable.
My current charging setup:
- ANKER 5 port 40W
- a docomo USB cable
Planning to buy a proper 20AWG usb cable and a QC2.0 adapter.
I just bought a Letv charger which supported qc3.0 for about 4$ on taobao
I'm currently on the 9.5.11 build and it takes about 4-5 hours to completely charge the device using stock charger, And it took about 2-3 hours while on 9.2 build.
I wonder if the Mi QC 3.0 based charger would improve the situation for us?

13,2W for me
I recieved 9.2.13 update yesterday and have been noticing significant boost to charging speeds since then...yet to fully charge from 0 so can't comment on total time but as per Ampere, charging speeds are in range of 1500 to 1700 mah
1000 mA max with 5v 2amp and Work Normal Speed with Stock Charger
Approximately 2 hour for charge phone
I use the app Ampere (free in Playstore) to measure power input and with a normal charger (non QC) it shows up to 1600 mAh charging amount and from almost 0 to 100% it is taking 2,5 hours. One question: is there a way to tell if QuickCharge is active?
@Kusie
Look on your"s phone status bar. With normal charging there is thunder icon next to the battery. With QC active, thunder in in circle as far as I remember. Info about active QC should be also displayed in the bottom of your lockscreen

I have no idea why would you do that... But read reviews, no matter what kind of charger you use, this phone only supports qc 2.0 version. From 0 to 100, in 1 hour, you only get like 55%, and in the end it slows down even more, so yes, impossible to fully charge in 1.5h, TECHNICALLY IMPOSSIBLE. You are either lying, or mixed times and got confused. Judging by technical parameters, the best this phone can do should be around 2hours from 0 to 100.
