Hi guys, i have the Zenfone 2 with the last LL update.
I would like to upgrade to 6 but I have some doubts. If I do the update via sideload I will lose TWRP? If I lose I will have to do unlock the Bootloader again?
Yes, as has been said many times before, it will relock and the new bootloader will replace twrp. But it's easy to get it back. just use the tool found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3458145

I'm not sure, but at the same time Asus published the update to Android 6, they also uploaded a zip to go back to Android 5. I guess you could sideload that one, unlock the bootloader and flash twrp again to have the phone as you had it.

To go back you'd need to downgrade to LP, unlock and install TWRP for LP then restore.

The best way is to get the LP raw file and use asus flash tool.

I recommend downloading the DEODEXED STOCK 4.2.2 rom.

1) make a full nandroid (cwm/twrp) backup
2) flash a 4.2.2 stock-derived ROM on top of existing ROM - no wipe
2.5) flash a minimal root kit (SuperSU or Superuser) if not in ROM in step 2 - no wipe
3) flash the same kernel you used previously - no wipe
4) profit!
No workie? Restore backup from step # 1 and try something else.

2. No it won't give you an error. Why would it?
3. It's from the official OTA update. You just don't need to wipe anything. Trust me on this.
4. How come? I did this last night on my Nexus 7 and everything is just fine.
5. You won't get a bootloop or an error if you do exactly what I just told you.

For safety I made a full online nandroid backup as above suggested now the issue is I am trying to copy the backup on PC
But when I plug nexus 7 on PC
In clockworkmod folder the backup folder doesn't show up but in
File manager at tablet shows it :/

There's no need to do that. But in spite of it, I can tell you that you can just create the nandroid backup and leave it in your device. Don't pull it out. Just flash the download in my previous post and if anything goes wrong. Enter recovery mode and restore your system. Even if you did pull the nandriod backup file from the N7 and the device fails to boot up, you cant just put the file back in to restore it that way. It won't mount so you can access the internal storage system.
P.S i don't know how to make the backup show up but i think there are a few thread here that some people have found a solution to it.

I have had TWRP behave the same way - sometimes it will put backups in
/data/media/TWRP/...
and sometimes in
/data/media/0/TWRP/...
It is a bit of a mystery what causes this to happen. Strangely, when there is a folder in the first location, TWRP (2.4.1.0) will not find the second one. But, if I manually move the files from the first location (/data/media/TWRP) to the second location (/data/media/0/TWRP) using a file manager, then TWRP will find the backups no problem.
well, the "sdcard" mount point ( == /data/media/0/ ) is the thing that shows up on the PC via MTP mode, so I would just move the files to the second location. I'm not sure if CWM behaves the same way, but you will certainly be able to copy them from the N7 to the PC at that point.

There's one thing that you're missing from that update. And that is the bootloader version, the bootloader version that you're currently using is 4.13. The newest version is 4.18. You don't have to update it if you don't want to.
I'll include this link for you to flash the latest bootloader via command prompt.

Updating bootloader does not wipe anything. It simply replaces and updates the one you already have on.
Definition of a bootloader:

boot(basically kernel) and system are usually what people mean 'custom ROM'. So if you just manually flash these two things(and usually need to be done together), none of your 'data' would be lost.
So just find these two images (usually .img) in whatever custom ROM you want and flash it.
This is the unix convention for a long long while and android is just linux

I am currently unlocked (TWRP v2.4.4.0) and rooted running 4.1.2. I would to update to the latest version of JB. Is there a simply way to do that without having to unroot, relock, and return to factory specs. I am just really looking to be able to keep all my data and settings. I've installed the latest version of WugFresh NRT on my desktop. Thanks so much for any help that you can provide.

You must be using an HTC device if you have to relock which you have to do to get the OTA update you cannot flash it without relocking your bootloader. You would have to flash a custom 4.2.2 ROM to keep your phone unlocked and your phone allowing it to flash properly. Otherwise you must relock then flash the ota update then unlock and root again. You will have to wipe it and reset when you flash the custom rom. Just make a nandroid before you do anything.

99% wrong for the Nexus 7. It might well be true for HTC devices, but is not germane to this device.

Thanks! I was able to upgrade my Nexus 7 using the NRT and the stock rom from that link that you provided (and didn't have to relock my device or wipe it). However, I forgot to download and install the bootloader you mentioned. Do I still need to do this and/or is it too late to do it? Everything seems to be working fine (root included) so far. Thanks again!
I just got a notification about new security patches. It seems to me that if all its doing are small security tweaks I can update safely with this OTA update and still retain root and everything else. Can someone chime in?

It depends on what method you used to root. If you have a systemless root, then you need to flash stock
boot.img
recovery.img
If you have a non-systemless root you will need to flash
boot.img
system.img
recovery.img

I do in fact have systemless. But why is this all necessary just for a small update that doesn't even change major files of M?

Because the updates checks for any changes to the system. And you need stock recovery because the OTA does not work with TWRP.
Just download the update and flash it using fastboot if you are on stock. You will have to flash the entire google image instead of the small incremental update but its easier than unrooting or flashing system and stock recovery which you will have to do in fastboot also.

I am in fact stock software wise. But flashing the entire Google image will reset data and everything else won't it?

It will not wipe the data on your internal SD card. It will only over write your system partition. You will have to set your phone up and download your apps or restore them from titanium backup but all your personal data such as pictures will not be deleted.

I am on a custom rom and want to flash stock rom without losing root and other data. Is it possible to do so with fastboot? Can't find a flashable stock rom.

Been looking through the root guide and of course will be unlocking and rooting. Should I first unlock, flash TWRP, load stock. Set up stock with my accounts and settings. Reboot to TWRP. Make NAND back up. Then root and then flash a rom? I'm still confused about the library IMG file. Will I need to do anything with it assuming the phone I receive was manufactured within the last 2 months?
Any other tips/suggestions would be much appreciated.

If you plan on unlocking bootloader, do that first. Device has to be wiped clean when doing so.
update to the March MHC19I update before modifying the system partition. It'll save you the headache of doing it via fastboot and re-rooting.

Unlock bootloader then upgrade to latest FW by OTA (or vice versa?), then flash TWRP and nandroid. Now root.

Unlock your bootloader, then take the OTA(s) to the latest build (MHC19I). You can't take an OTA with TWRP installed so don't flash that first. If for some reason the OTA doesn't appear you can just flash the factory images for the latest build in order to update. Once you're fully up to date you can flash TWRP and make a nandroid backup. Then just flash whatever ROM you want to use. Keep in mind that after flashing the ROM + gapps you also need to flash the appropriate vendor image to suit the build of the ROM you're flashing. You can flash it with fastboot, or use the "install image" option in bottom-right corner of the install menu in TWRP (TWRP can flash some images now).

You need to give more info. Is your boatloader unlocked? Why do you need to go back to stock anyway is something wrong? Do you need to save any data on the phone?

Flashing instructions are explained at the top of this page. Now scroll down till N6P images. There are two builds, one is Verizon specific. It's written anyway.

One of my questions was do you need to back up anything. If so make sure you understand flashing a factory image wipes the phone completely.

Easiest way You need to just download Nexus root toolkit to your computer plug in phone and let the toolkit do the work it will flash the proper files and reboot the phone
Do not Re- lock bootloader until you have flashed back to stock or you will brick it for good. Or don't lock the bootloader at all for that matter and yes save all files photos anything to PC..Or flags drive before you restore cause it will all vanish
