Should swith to Glaxy S7 Edge or iPhone 7 Plus or stick around ? - ZTE Axon 7 Questions & Answers

I've been using Axon 7 - got it thru B&H. So far my impression is, everything is good about it except Camera. Front facing as well as low light capabilities of the device.
I'm debating if I should abandon ship and go and get iPhone 7 Plus or Galaxy S7 Edge as camera is most important aspect apart from audio. Or is there hope that camera will improve soon ?
Any inputs ?

I will NEVER EVER go back to iPhone. Had iPhone 4 for half a year. I will NEVER have any idevice. Ipad 4 128gb collecting dust in my house.
Im not a fan of edge screens so ill just tell you my opinion. Stick around.
With the camera being important to you. Get the s7 edge.

Thank you, yes I personally don't like iOS have used it till iPhone 5 and iPhone 5s and find it to be too boring. Dabbled in Lumia 1520 (specifically for its camera power) and then moved to Android. Relatively its been lot easier to work around. Only problem is camera & it is one of important thing for me. Although I love audio on Aoxon 7 and have never seen anything like it so far. By going to Galaxy Edge 6 I'm sure I will be giving up on that part as well as storage from 64GB to 32GB.

As much as people complain about MiFavor, it's a lot better than TouchWiz. You'd be making a lot of sacrifices (overall smoothness, battery life, speakers, a LOT of money, durability, etc) for slightly better selfies and slightly better low-light camera. If your pictures really need to be that good, get a DSLR. The S7 is easier to use in 1 hand, but its more slippery, so that's a wash. Honestly, the Axon 7 is the no-compromises smartphone we've been asking manufacturers for years for. The grass is not always greener and you will regret spending the extra $300 on an S7.

Thank you for you input, I do use DSLR for my serious shutterbug needs - this is just for the overall camera experience. I don't have any issues with MiFavor as I use Nova for my launcher needs. I've LG G4 so know exactly what the camera difference is between this and Axon. But as you said $300 more is lot of money to spend for something marginally better. If there are options of improvisation of this camera I'd love to hear that part.

If anything I'd return it/ sell it and wait for the v20 to come out or the note series to re-come out lol over the s7 and apple (i've never liked apple good hardware just to hyped and now i can't support no headphone jack, hopefully this won't stick :-\) but i love my v10 (other than some heat issues) waiting on the axon 7 (because v10 is company phone cracked note 3 phone screen and borrowed company phone and feel like to much of a mooch lol.) Your choice tho it's 300 dollars more (maybe 200 for v20) but that's a lot for just one spec.

The fact that you are asking this question tells me you never should have bought this phone. Yes MiFavor is no fun and yes the camera could give us better results, but people who buy this phone look at bang for the buck. For $400 you can't beat this. Double the price for S7 edge or any new crapple product and you will get a little more. The real question is does that little more justify the price tag? In my opinion it does not, but if hanging your hat on a little (very little) better low light camera then do what you gotta do

Chill bro - I've not been fan of any particular device or platform except Palm Pre for its sheer simplicity.
Nobody had any clue about the camera capabilities of Axon 7 when it came out and on paper it looked to be decent device. So nothing wrong in buying one either. Let see what is in stock for Axon 7 in terms of future upgrades. I personally love everything about it including MiFavor so I'm not just jumping ship yet.

i don't want to keep getting a new phone every 2 years for updates, and updates are slow on android. but with iphone you get 5 years of update and updates are fast for all devices and you get more internal storage so i can install more games that are 2GB or 3GB in size. iphone you get 256GB internal storage.

[Q] Which phone do you recommend me to upgrade to from a N4?

I have had a nexus 4 for almost 2 years and I like it. Even so it has its negative points, especially after all this time. It's not as responsive as it used to be and battery life, which wasn't stellar to begin with, has decayed a lot. With this in mind I have been searching for a good phone to replace it. I was waiting for the Nexus 6 to come out but when it was officially announced that screen size and the price scared me away.
After the announcement I have been searching and comparing a bunch of phones. I was interested on the OnePlus One but the buying process is a pain in the ass. I checked the S5 but then I remembered it had the infamous Touchwiz which I had already (even though in an earlier incarnation) on a Galaxy Ace I had before the N4 and there was also the fact that it is expensive as hell on my carrier. I also checked the HTC One M8 but the camera resolution seems horrible. I have checked the Sony Xperia line but it is as expensive as the S5 in my carrier and also pretty expensive on sites like Amazon. At last I have been comparing between a Nexus 5 and a LG G3. I know they have almost a year between them but I like the fact that the Nexus 5 is cheap and receives fast updates, although I have heard battery life was not improved very much. And, on the G3's side, it is newer, has better hardware and supposedly has a good battery life(I have heard mixed views on this as some say battery is good while others say it is horrible).
So, to sum it up, I would like to know your opinions and would also like to know if you happen to know some other options I haven't considered.
Thanks and sorry for the long post and if this wasn't the right forum to ask this.

Look at an LG G2. $400 for a new one, under $300 for a used one in good/mint condition. Beefy 3000mAh battery, very competent hardware, big screen in a not-so-big body, and a good amount of development if you want to try different ROMs/kernels. As cheap, or even cheaper, than a Nexus 5, but with a much bigger battery and better camera. With the G3 out, prices have plummeted on the G2, and have made it a veritable bargain.
The G3 is a hell of a phone. The QHD screen might drain the battery a bit more, but on this phone the battery is replaceable, so just buy a spare if you're worried about that. Not much development yet, but if you buy the T-Mobile version or one with an unlocked bootloader it's easy to root and modify with Xposed, which gives you plenty of options to tweak it to your satisfaction.
Regarding the HTC One's camera - it's not great, but it's not bad either. If all you're wanting to do is post pics to Facebook or internet forums, it's perfectly fine, since pictures will be reduced anyway. Where it suffers is in cropped detailed pics, and stuff like sweeping vistas and anything far away. That aside, the One is an awesome device.
My personal choice from what's available right now would definitely be the HTC One M8. If you don't care a huge deal about the camera then there are very few flaws to it at all. The camera on the M8 will definitely be worse in normal light than most other flagships but the pictures it takes are still far better than those from the N4 and in low light the camera performs better than most, not to mention the fact that it has good autofocus and a myriad of extra features which you may or may not find useful but they're still nice to have. Battery life is excellent, the screen is absolutely gorgeous, Sense brings extra features and (arguably) a nicer design than AOSP whilst retaining excellent performance and the phone is just generally far nicer to use than anything else I've tried.
Look for the Huawei Honor 6.
300$, full LTE, 16GB upgradable with microSD, beautiful 5" HD screen... I'm gonna buy this phone in the next week for replacement of my N4.
I went from a Nexus 4 to a HTC One M8 and hated it, hence why I'm back with my Nexus 4. That said, I'm definitely in the minority.

Why I picked the S6 over the M9

Let me start out by saying, I wanted the M9 to be the phone I wanted it to be, sooo bad. I have had a M7 Dev Edition since launch day, used it primarily on AT&T. I have now switch to T-Mobile and the M7 does not have all of the required bands to be fully compatible, so it was time to upgrade for me.
I bought the M9 early, directly from HTC and got the dev edition. It has full support for T-Mobiles bands and has the upgrades I have been needing ( Faster, microsd NO BLOAT ).
I still could not help read all the hype over the S6, so I bought one of those as well, just a regular S6, IDK why, but I was not a fan of the edge look.
I have both now for weeks as T-Mobile was selling them ahead of everyone else.
From testing both as daily drivers I have concluded the S6 is the best route for me, the software combined with Samsung's own processor is flawless, nearly 0 lag, even with the bloat I found myself liking the S6 more and more.
What it came down to in the end was a few things;
1. Signal - There would be places as I was driving I would have LTE on the S6, and the M9 would only get Edge. Not even H+. It seems to me like the antenna on the S6 is better, so many places the S6 would get signal where the M9 wouldn't. Places as I was driving, where the M9 had an "X" ( No Signal ), the S6 showed 2 bars of H+.
2. Camera - Yes the camera CAN produce good pictures, but you have to be standing still and have the the steadiest of hands, I went to a concert and zoomed all the way in with the M9 and I could see the screen shaking from my hand shaking, due to its lacks of OIS. Tried the same thing on the S6 and it was steady as could be, no shaking, perfect picture. I have a big enough hand I use both phones with one hand, if you are a person who uses both hands, maybe pictures won't be that bad for you.
3. Wireless charging - No more ports breaking, lol. With how cheap the technology is, I don't use the wall charger ever. I found a few QI chargers at Radio Shack when they were going out of business for 5 bucks a peice. Get to work, place it on the pad and don't worry about it.
Trust me, I kept trying to talk myself out of the S6 for my sheer love of HTC and the design and feel, but overall daily use the S6 outshines it. I hope next year they bring their game back, as I heard right after the M9 launched they re-organized a bunch of staff.
What I will miss, the front facing speakers, Samsung should know how much sound is when speakers are facing you, but none the less, tis one feature I will miss on the M9
This is just my opinion, and the decision was not easy, but day to day the S6 won me over.

I tend to agree with you. Even if you take away their respective cameras the S6 just brings so much more to the table. That combined with the fact that Samsung has managed to make the S6 so fast performance wise means that it could be a long year for HTC.
I have a S6 edge sitting right next to me. I used it for a week and it deserves high praise. Samsung really hit it out the park.
I had to have a M9 for some reason. I had the M7&8 and wanted the 9 even if it was a miniscule upgrade.
So far I'm trying to find reasons to like the HTC more because I will only keep one.
I'm liking the Sense UI, body and build, and that's about it so far. The battery feels worse and the camera sucks. I hope these can be fixed through updates.

Lol...that desperate huh.
TLDR
If it is a question...then...
Must be your first htc.
Things get better few months later with otas.
I still don't understand why sammy doesn't invest on design. Then the software itself twz is too boring.
But well, just my opinion.
I don't even bother of saying to people what to buy or what is the best, unless i got a nice payment for it
I forgot, sammy focus their marketing for Women and kids, i m none of them

Yes, I agree touch wiz is very ugly. Sense is the premium Launcher. All guy's want it. That's the reason to change to htc to.

Have both of them using as daily drivers, and using them about over a week. so I have somme opinions
From now on m9=htc one m9, and the s6e=s6 edge
M9 over S6E
1- Playing games on htc is much more fun than the s6e
2- Listening music is better
3- speaker quality is better (two front facing speakers, you can hear detailed sounds even in candy crush)
4- Battery life on m9 is better than s6
5- Easier to use with one hand
6- Blinkfeed
7- Sd card support
S6E Over M9
1- Screen quality is way better (amoled vs ips)
2- Camera quality (unmatched on the market )
3- Wireless Charging
4- Fingerprint Scanner
5- Build quality ( for me glass is better choice)
6- Fast charging
As you can see guys these list are primary for me and i am happy with my devices. Both devices are wonderful and easy to use. Both have their advantages and disadvantages.
The only disappointment is M9's camera. Although its 20.7 mp, it shoots crappy photos and i don't understand why htc still using toshiba sensor.
These are my opinions and i am not writing this to slander any of them. These devices rocks!!!
Thank you.
I too, like the OP, wanted m9 to be good. Bought it a few weeks ago even with no local warranty (m9 not released officially yet here in Indonesia).
Played around with it for 1 week, before I concede and bought the regular s6.
I hate touchwiz. Still do. But that's about all I have to endure. The rest are just sublime.
Edit:forgetting the lack of external sdcard option on s6.worked around it by turning on flickr auto upload (I don't have huge apps or games on my phone)
I chose m9 at first because it's full HD not QHD, thinking i'd rather have a good battery-life than a feature i can't really enjoy. Seriously I cant really see the difference between QHD and FHD screen at 5-5.2" screen. By staying with FHD screen I was expecting at the very least m8-level 6-7hr SOT battery life. However I was wrong. My M9 never surpass the 5hr mark SOT whatever I did (without crippling its smartphone features too badly). My s6 can get 6 hours SOT with wifi, and around 4.5-5 hours on mixed wifi and patchy LTE signal.
Loved the high resolution m9 camera in daylight, but sadly i rarely use my camera at daytime. Most of my usage are from 6pm onwards (which is why i loved my UP m8 so much). Again, s6 caters my night time photography need.
This is not a post bashing m9. I'm a fan of HTC really. Just whoring myself temporarily to the friendly Korean neighbor, hoping somehow the issues m9 have would be ironed out in the near future through great software updates. If so, i'll be gladly sell my s6 and keep an eye for a used m9.
The S6 is better in almost every way except the speaker of course, and this year build quality is a toss up.
If SG6 is so cool.. Why im having tonz of pm to port Sense 7 over it
I have a S5 and a Z3C. S6 was never an option for me, it takes too many features away, but I 'm not arguing it may be the best phone of the year. I also wanted something new and had never tried HTC. So I went with the M9 and I love it so far, it's like this phone has a soul. I knew that I would get an imperfect phone when I bought it (cheap, got an offer) so I 'm not disappointed.

Question is, why didn't people just buy the m9 if they like sense 7 so much

Again my first original post was just an opinion, this was not my first HTC, I have had the M7 Dev Edition since launch day. Simple day to day uses, functions etc made me pick the S6.
Like I said in my original post, I tried to find any reason for me to keep the M9, I like sense over touchwiz but even with updates, you can't make a camera function like it has OIS when it doesn't, not to say it won't improve..
Lack of sd card is minimal for me, I have an unlimited data plan, upload photos/videos to the cloud and you don't have to worry about space.

They do, but they don't spam or get paid for promoting like Samsung using kids, students and girls. Maybe bad paid in a basement. In poors country it's a known activity, but to me slavery. People should be free.

S6 or 6S have to decide today

really struggling with the decision to get a s6 or a 6s. I know s7 is coming soon but I do not have the option to wait for that as my current phone is dead.
So, $199 for a S6 32gb or $299 for a 64gb 6s. Looking for honest opinion if this nearly year old model actually holds up to the 6S. I like android better but have been using a 5c for the last 2 years. My tablets and tv box are android. Just struggling with pulling the trigger if the 6s is that much faster. Any thoughts would be appreciated
If you are thinking about it you must go for the 6S.

I would recommend the s6 for a majority of the categories that you would decide on. It has better screen (colors, sharpness, brightness), better camera(by far!), looks sleeker in my opinion with the glass back, even though both battery life's are probably bad, the s6 might win the battery life fight, android is more customizeable especially with root and you won't have to wait a millenia for the next jailbreak, apparently the apple A9 chip is faster, but I highly doubt that you would notice the difference unless you compared the two phones in a super heavy multitasking environment. Overall I think the s6 wins, and if you only had one thing to decide on, it would be the camera. The camera on the s6 (I can't stress this enough) is absolutely gorgeous. Hope that helped!
If you want a great camera, don't need 64gb storage, and prefer the drag and drop, free nature of Android, get the S6. If you don't tinker with it, its a great phone, and definitely holds up to the 6s.
If you need 64gb and don't care for decent photo's, get the 6S.
I appreciate the feed back but a key point which I neglected to mention is that Jailbreak/root is not an option as it is a company phone with software that monitors such activity. So although I root everything I own typically, although I have not rooted my shield Tv, it would not factor in this decision.

Samsung Knox is great for storing sensitive data as long as your password is strong for it and you use a fingerprint.
In general you shouldn't need to root the S6 to enjoy it, and the 6s will work okay too.
Get the IPhone 6S 64GB, take good care if it for about 2 weeks and then sell it for a good price and get S7 for more or less the same money. This way your dilemma which phone is superior (S6 v 6S) is solved without any doubt ,as S7 will kill both of them.

appreciated but also not an option due to company phone restrictions. I do not have the ability to switch phones myself. Everything is done through a work flow.
Then I will agree with the same reasonings (S6 ) as with others especially now that Marshmallow is rolling out!
Get the 6S! The S6 is a fantastic device, but for a company phone you should get a 6S. Then you can buy an S6 or Android phone later as they'll be much cheaper when buying on your own.
Company phone means get Apple. Personal means Android, at least for me!
The 6S performance is much better than S6, but the design is plain ugly to me.
Get 6s 6s 6s
LG G4 if you want the best smartphone camera around. That's coming from someone who has directly compared the two.
You can always get the s6 and get a launcher to make it look like iOS. And you can add music with ease to the device. You can use Google docs to save files to your local storage on the phone. The s6 can do more, why limit yourself?
Simply put, S6 is overall a better device, 6S is overall a better experience.
I faced the same choice back in December 2015, sometimes I wish I had chosen the 6S.
Get the 6S. You can always sell it and get an Android phone later , if you can't stand the iOS difficulties (there are many).

Too many second hand iphones on the market so dont buy one of those as you will loose money from the second you open the box . As for the s6 and edge both phones are way cheaper now and are good phones . But go for the 64 gb + models as that gives you more room for the future

if its a company phone i would take the 6s. private i would take the s6!
thanks for the replies. I ultimately ordered the S6. Being cheap was probably my main motivation, spending an extra $100 for the 6s was too steep for me for a phone that is not truly heads and shoulders above the S6 and I guess some would debate if it is better at all. My company phone is my only phone so it is a duel purpose personal and work phone. Work purposes I need to check emails, make calls, and uses salesforce. I am sure the S6 will accommodate.
so pissed though, was holding out for the S7 then this weekend I killed my current phone. I can not function without a phone in my profession so my hand was forced
6s!! You'd have to root your S6 to get nearly as good phone as your 6s! You won't regret it.

This or the nexus 6p?

I'm getting tired of the horrible camera from my note 3 and really bad build quality, so I'm thinking of getting a new flagship phone and pass my note to my girlfriend.
At the moment, I'm deciding between the nexus 6p and the newly released Galaxy s7 edge.
I used some AOSP roms on my Samsung and I fell in love with them, the ui was incredibly smooth and minimalistic, everything was flying except for the camera performance and poor battery life because somehow touchwizz had better drivers. I would really love a stock android rom on the premium body of the 6p, but I'm planning to use this phone for a long time, at least 3 years. So I was wondering if the s7 edge wouldn't be a better option, since it has better specs and should be more future proof.
How is the snapdragon 810 compared to the exynos 8890? Is the exynos much better?

I'm getting tired of the horrible camera from my note 3 and really bad build quality, so I'm thinking of getting a new flagship phone and pass my note to my girlfriend.
At the moment, I'm deciding between the nexus 6p and the newly released Galaxy s7 edge.
I used some AOSP roms on my Samsung and I fell in love with them, the ui was incredibly smooth and minimalistic, everything was flying except for the camera performance and poor battery life because somehow touchwizz had better drivers. I'm facing the same decision as you.
I'm used to the fluidity of the iphone...
I'm just afraid the nexus is too big for me, as i like typing with one hand...

With just 0.2" more and a just slightly bigger bezel at the nexus 6p, there isn't that much of a size difference between the two.
When it comes to fluidity, sure both serve a great experience as well. I at least haven't faced any fluidity problems at my G935F within the 2 days I own it and I used it pretty much including playing XCOM and FF9 which both take nice load on the device (it even just gets slightly warm at those games, I only barely noticed it even while it was something I actively checked for). But it's most likely not that much different at the nexus 6p.
The 6p is when it comes to updates more future proof, because it will get them sooner and as it is atm a year longer than the galaxy family (nexus update policy is about 3 years, samsung is known for supporting devices for 2 years, on the other hand, by being mostly open source nexus devices can have a much longer update lifetime through the community and custom roms, galaxy devices as well, but escpecially at exynos devices it is much harder). On the other hand does the s7 ship with vulkan api support already, what is more or less the next big thing in gaming.
When it comes to bare bones benchmark performance, the exynos has the upper hand pretty easily (about 50% better overall performance at antutu).
Had to make the same decision as my old phone died recently. I had the Galaxy Nexus and the Nexus 5. Now I ended up with the S7 edge. I think it is fair to say that the phone aim for a different type of consumer.
As I was at the university I wanted to have a cheaper phone, with a lot of customization. Also something I could "work" with, e.g. flash and modify.
Now I wanted to have something more "solid". I am not interested in flashing anymore, but something that is and looks like some value. With good camera and good performance (I did not notice the occasional lag nor would a frame lost while scrolling bother me that much).
Thus, I ended up buying the S7.
After having the 6P since it came out, I can say it's really not that great - I'm getting my S7 Edge tomorrow and look forward to using a much smaller phone, with a much better display and camera.
If you're using it for 3 years, then I'd go nexus. I'd get very sick of slow updates and TouchWiz in 3 years. The decision came down to this for me: Updates, development, and front facing speakers or nicer design, best specs available, and SD card.

I feel like there is a huge size difference between the 6p and s7 edge. 6p feels massive now when I hold it whereas the s7 edge is much better suited for one-hand use.
Overall you can't really go wrong with either. The nexus does feel a bit more fluid when navigating / using apps but it's barely noticeable, and it will receive timely updates. The samsung has the better display, camera, and battery. I think the only thing I really miss from the nexus is the fingerprint reader on the back.
I had the Nexus 6p for two weeks before the metal case buckled near the volume rocker, google it, it's a common problem. I returned it in favor of the S7E.
On the Nexus I loved the fingerprint reader location, front facing speakers and stock Android but I wasn't banking on the hardware lasting 2yrs given that it started to fail after two weeks.

Sorry for OT, but what is as much better at locating it on the back. I really like it at the front, it's pretty natural to use the thumb to unlock the device while in hand. Maybe slightly less as while it was on the back with the index finger, but I get the ability to also unlock it while the device is lying on the table, what is a big plus for my opinion...

This exactly. It's a great device, hardware wise. However that little size difference DOES make a difference. It's just a hair too long and wide to be comfortable sitting with in in jeans of any sort...and the stock android experience is nice, but a bit overhyped, at least for me. I also found it to be a rather plain, and boring device. Took GREAT photos and i loved the placement of the fingerprint sensor, but ultimately I let it go to get the S7 Edge.
One thing to consider, if you're not going to root it, go with the S7E. I had the Nexus 6P and I can't root due my work app detecting it (even with xposed) and it's just so vanilla that I got pretty bored with it. Even iOS seems to have more options than stock Android. The S7E has a ton of features baked in that are fun to play with.
If you can root though and install ROM's like PA, CM, etc... then the Nexus 6P might be the best way to go.
I sold my 6p the same day I got my s7 edge. To me they are both just as fast. After owning several Samsung and a couple nexus phone I can't believe how fluid and smooth the s7 edge is. As others have stated the 6p did feel a little bigger and harder to manage than the s7 edge. Both are great phones. I don't regret my decision at all.

If you use your phones for 2-3 years, the S7 might be slightly more future proof because of the great processor be it SD or Exynos, plus 4gb of RAM that should account for at least 2 years of usage imo, and you get the SD card storage so you would probably need to get at least the 64GB 6P in order for it to be slightly future proof.
I've owned the 6P and the 5X so I'll pipe in on this as well. The 6P is a GREAT device when it comes to updates and having the backing of the dev community. If you don't like something about the user experience, you can bet there is something out there that will allow you to modify whatever it is you're griping over. I never had a problem with the hardware and the camera was surprisingly GOOD!
It is, however, a pretty girthy device. When comparing it to the S7 Edge, it's really not even a comparison. The 6P footprint is larger and much more difficult to use one handed. I found myself having to use to do some thumb gymnastics to reach the corners and I'd like to think I have some decent sized hands.
At the end of the day, it boils down to your preference. If you can stomach TW, then get the Galaxy. If you're #TeamStock all the way then the Nexus is for you.

It just felt a lot more natural in the back and the sensor is more accurate. Not to take anything from the gs7 edge fingerprint sensor which is pretty good but definitely not as good as the nexus.
Erhh.. Still cant decide.
Nexus pros are:
- faster updates
- front facing speakers
- cheaper
Galaxy pros are:
- beautiful
- somewhat smaller and easier to handle one handed
- larger battery
- water resistant
- optical image stabilization
I live in an area where we get the Exynos model...
I hope it will be as good as the snapdragon.

Thanks for all the replies guys, I decided to buy the nexus in the end.
Here's why: I will use it for at least 3 years, so the constant updates are a big plus. Also, even if it has lower specs then the s7, the software is much more optimized. No matter how fluid and smooth touchwiz has become, no Samsung in this world runs better then stock android on the latest nexus flagship.
And even if it has slightly lower specs then the s7, they are still more then enough for what I'm planning to use it for: Internet browsing, YouTube, Facebook, clash of clans and taking pictures (I read that the camera is great).
The reason I'll be using it this much is that the store I buy it from, here in Romania, offers the possibility to get 1 or 2 more years of warranty, aside from the 2 years the device already comes with. And if do I get extra warranty, it becomes premium warranty. This means: if my device breaks and needs to be sent for repair, they send a courier to my door to pick the product for me, free of charge and free shipping. And if they don't fix the device within 5 working days, I can get a full refund of the initial price. That's right, after let's say 3 years, when this phone will be worth around 200-300$ in used condition, I can get the full 570$ I initially payed, if they can't fix the phone.
I already did that with my nexus 10 after a year, then got enough money to get the note 3. My note still has 2 more years and a few months of warranty, in which time I'm 100% positive that it will eventually break.
The note goes to my girlfriend and I decided that I want a new phone, a premium one that I'll be using for a long time while I have the 4 years warranty.
If you can't afford an Edge, go with a 6P.
6p horrible batterlife

Upgrade P2XL to P5....Pointless?

Just saw the specs of P5....Poor resolution upgrade!
I guess it's pointless and waste of money....what are your thoughts?
Since our security updates will end this month, I plan to upgrade for those and take advantage of the strong T-Mobile 5G signal in my area.

My thoughts?
If you only now just saw the specs you haven't been following the news. You likely also do not understand why Google didn't go with the 865/865+ in the two devices.
For me, it boils down to which features I consider more important. Right now I'm leaning towards the P5 simply because of the aluminum body, but the 4A 5G and its headphone jack is compelling. I think in the end, it's going to boil down to "do I want to pay the extra $200 or not?"

Coming from the 2XL... The 5 is an upgrade. As far as the ppi... https://www.androidauthority.com/chasing-pixels-810926/ this article from AA is very good and I'm sure I won't notice it much. But I am going to wait for reviews and actually see it side by side

Ive never been one of the sheeple, the people who buy into aspirational technology (people who aspire to own somehting because its new and everyone else has one), so its not even a decision for me. Im a fucntional user, if a device performs the functions i need it to, im happy. The only reason i ever upgrade devices is when one is dead, or very much close to being....
I do not get the "new device every 6 months" buyers...i just dont, i think thats insanity
Personally i look at the lines of sheeple at Apple Stores on every release and weep for humanity, and the planet which gets raped to bring people ovepriced (thanks to Apple - they are the root of all evil, not least because they overprice their products, thereby forcing everyone in the market to follow suit, because to do anythign less is to be seen as inferior, so blame Apple, i do, asshat comapny) devices they dont really need
Pretty much the forumula is: new phone = new camera that takes pictures of an even more distant galaxy, hmm very useful in every day life
Some people in some countries have way too much spare money if theyre buying new phones all the time
Im sticking with what works for me, not a corporations bottom line, thanks

I loved the Pixel 5. I think Google made a small decision to stick with full hd resolution simply because you don't notice as such if the panel is good. It's easy on the battery. It will be easy on the chipset and provide consistent performance.
Pixel 5 does not lack anything as such. The only thing i was a bit disappointed was ufs 2.1 storage. Other than that I'm loving the Pixel 5. I'll get it maybe this Christmas or so!
The more I think about it, the more the 4a5g is looking like the better deal. Only differences between it and the five are two less gigabytes of RAM, no 90hz refresh, and a smaller battery, but the battery is still bigger than the 2xl, so battery life should still be an improvement. I've not yet owned a phone that had a 90hz refresh rate, so that's not really a huge deal to me yet.
The big draw toward the 4a5g for me personally is that the screen is bigger, which would make it feel like more of an upgrade compared to the 2XL.
The materials used are also different, but I've never really been a huge fan of glass backs. Plastic was always all right with me, so the 4a5g won't bother me in that regard. It supposedly feels pretty good in the hand even though its materials are "lesser than” the materials used for the 5 back.
Forgot about wireless charging too, but personally I've never owned a phone that had wireless charging, so again, not a big deal for me yet.

I second your thoughts here. 4a5 is certainly a better handset and not much hard hitting on the pocket too!
So far with lack of reviews and having seen a few of the random videos we can get. The OnePlus 8 Pro is looking better to me. Really need to see some full reviews

I am changing my mind to OnePlus 8 Pro too, I can go to swappa.com and get for less price than P5 with taxes. I am seriously considering going back to iPhone. Google has been using the same camera sensor hardware since the Pixel 2 came out. That means if Google ported the sofware algorithms to the Pixel 2 it would take pictures the same if not damn close to being the same.
after being a 4 year pixel 2 xl owner... the pixel 5 feels like a natural successor. Jut my opinion though
i currently use a pixel 3 because i prefer the size but im pretty much done with the pixel series. the cost is far too high and the features are less and less. the 4 had no fingerprint reader..... so i was thinking of getting a Zenfone 7. great size, great amount of ram........ EXPANDABLE STORAGE!!! but after seeing the OnePlus Nord N10, i might change my mind. ill have to see after the first reviews but it has what i want/need in a phone. google is just too obsessed with trying to either win the apple crowd, or become like apple.
maybe if they ever add features like expandable storage ill buy another pixel but the odds of that happening are not good. knowing google, theyll probably give up on the pixel line after the pixel 7 so i plan on holding on to my Panda Pixel indefinitely.
Okay i changed my decision probably.
I don't think i'll be getting Pixel 5 solely because of outdated hardware. Only if they had upgraded the camera sensors i'd have gone for it. The current sensor is at the end of its life.
I can't decide if I want to get a OP8T, OP8 Pro, or Pixel 5.
I prefer the flat screen of the 5 and 8t, the rear fingerprint sensor on the 5, and the telephoto on the 8 pro.
Get rid of P2-XL?

Depends on your battery. After October, no more OTA's from Google.
If your battery is good, between updates from Google Play Store and LineageOS, I think the phone
would be plenty secure. I plan to keep using mine for awhile. running LineageOS

lol Flat screen is such a bliss. My next phone will be a flat screen. I am tired of this curved look and miss touches due to the curve
I went from. The p2xl to the 5, it's definitely an upgrade for me. I love how smooth it feels with the extra ram and 90hs screen, the SD765g has no trouble giving me a great experience on the couple games I do play, (pubg and genshin impact) the battery life for me is about double what the 2xl was and I'm happy to know I'll be getting monthly security updates for the next three years. There are still a couple things I don't like. The top behind the screen speaker is just so-so, far inferior to the 2xl's stereo front firing speakers. However I don't watch or listen to much without headphones or a bt speaker anyways and it does fine for calls. they removed a feature I did actually like.. active edge, I miss sweezing to activate assistant rather than saying hey Google or swiping the corner but still not really a deal breaker for me just so thing to get used to.
