[ROM][UNOFFICIAL] CM 13 + AOSP kernel for amami [2016-10-07] - Xperia Z1 Compact General

I managed to build CM 13 for this device. I'll make my builds available here and try to update regularly. I take no dev credit, I'm just a builder.
I build straight from the Cyanogenmod source on Github, minus the kernel, which comes from the Sony AOSP project.
Thanks especially to derf elot for the build manifest and the CyanogenMod, FreeXperia, and Sony AOSP contributors.

Unlock bootloader and install a custom recovery (suggest TWRP 3)
Wipe system, data, cache
Flash update ZIP
Flash Gapps (optional)
Known Issues
AudioFX crashes constantly
Charging battery not always reflected in UI
Fullscreen video playback sometimes results in black screen
FM radio nonfunctional
Misc Info
Motivation: Most of the AOSP and other MM ROMs for this device have some deal-breaking bug for me, such as sleep of death or echoes when making phone calls, with the exception of the pure CM 13 ROMs. However, nobody's built one in some time, so I figured I'd give it a shot.

Patches: Most of the code was ready to build as is. I ran into one problem: the 3.10 kernel's device tree lacks some Qualcomm-specific board information, so boot.img fails to build. I copied it from the CM 12 branch and all was well. Patch against CyanogenMod/kernel_sony_msm: View attachment 3872045

Very cool. I am guessing no call echo here? That was always annoying. How is the camera (especially in the dark)?

Nope, no call echo, as long as you don't turn the volume too high. That ruled out all of the AOSP ROMs for me; have to be able to use my phone as a phone. Camera is exactly like the other CM-based ROMs, focus is kinda inaccurate, and video recording doesn't work. I haven't tried any low-light photos but I suspect they won't be very good.

So far, one of the best mm roms vor now.

Oh, I see. I'm not much of a developer, though; I just wanted some more regular CM 13 builds. I may look into patching this change in but for now, disabling the app is a good enough workaround for me, and I'm not interested in starting my own branch of CM.
Out of curiosity, how do you find the ROM so far?

TBH I'm on stock since last month (nothing can beat its battery life) and I'm waiting for Nougat to be stable enough for z1c to test it out

Tried it out yesterday. Very nice. I hadn't seen the new Themer in other roms before. I like it. Still holding out hope that someone can do something about CM camera issues.

New 9/27 build is up, now using the kernel from sonyxperiadev instead of the slightly outdated CM kernel on Github. From the commit log, there are some minor performance enhancements, but nothing too groundbreaking.
As far as the camera is concerned, this is as good as it's going to get.

deleted. sorry, wrong post

Used it for a day. Performance wise the best MM rom i've tried so far, the only real lag-free MM rom.
But as a price the camera is pretty much completely broken or has horrible (50$ smartphone front camera) quality on the backface camera...
I flashed everything clean twice, no idea why this happens.
I'm going back to official CM12.1 and try to get the best out of my Z1C as a daily driver, but it's nice to see people putting effort into building more MM/CM13 roms =)

Yeah, it's a shame about the camera. Unfortunately, it's on Sony to provide better MM binary blobs. There were some new binaries released back in June, but they completely break the Z1C's camera (see the latest FreeXperia builds).
After so much talk about Sony being open to development, it kinda stinks to be left to hang like this.

@SouthernPacific - I'm curious about theme manager on your rom. Is it the CynaogenOS themer? I've found a flashable zip for Cynaogen apps, (to run on non-CyanogenOS CM roms), but I was wondering about a way to use that theme manager on a non-CM rom. I tried using addon.d and permissions files from the zip, but app still fc. Think it's possible?

I don't know much about it, to be honest. It's just built when you build any CM 13 ROM.
I would imagine it's a lot more complicated than installing the apk, though - the UI code needs some pretty deep hooks to be modifiable like that. Maybe just use another engine, possibly with Xposed?

Possibly, i haven't confirmed this bug myself, it was posted on SlimRom forums. Actually didn't even know there was two mics . But the kernel sources are the same with CM and my AOSP build so either this bug is in those roms too or it's Slim specific bug.

As alirey ointed out, just install SuperSu. But when i had Slim installed it did have root, so i'm not sure why you didn't have it. Did you check the setting in Settings->Development-> root access (or something like that...)? It should be set to Apps or Apps&ADB

Hmm, haven't tried Full Screen. Maybe i'll install latest build with dualboot to check some things out.
As a daily. Works great for me.
Alright, installed latest build as dualbootable rom. Some testing with camera:
- first try with HDR result was hanged camera app and Cannot connect to camera when trying to start camera app. Logcat spits out some streaming errors as mm-camera-daemon tries to connect to camera, to no avail.
- reboot and second try. HDR works out of the box . Turning HDR on and off works, however Gallery FC's when taking a pic with HDR . Some outofbounds exception in logcat, related to decodeYUV422P. Hmm, haven't seen this with AOSP, but haven't actually tested camera in AOSP very thoroughly
All in all, there's stuff to do to get Active's camera working reliably.
Oh and the latest build is uploading, built yesterday

It seems to be part of msm8960-common: https://github.com/CyanogenMod/android_device_samsung_msm8960-common.
Meaning it's part of SnapDragon device stuff. I don't know what it actually does, but apparently in Cyanogenmod it adds some additional options to settings perhaps? Propably with Slim also...

As nasaprinsloo pointed aout, did you do format? Factory reset might not be enough. To be sure, format /system, /data and /cache manually (maybe dalvik-cache also, and /preload).
Also, i assume you have CWM installed?
Personally, i've had no problems with installations. When coming from some other rom, facory reset and then flash. When flashing newer version, just dirty flash and it works.
Just fyi
With normal tw my useable home screen area was extremely small. As well as the apps list could hold prob 50 apps. I liked it very much (the small size)
Using Nova launcher, back to normal full screen usage. With standard size icons.
Nice one
I´m driving the build now and works like a charm...

Yeah I do. Poweramp takes some trickery though. You have to go into Audio -> Advanced Tweaks and uncheck Direct volume control, and BT Direct Volume Control. I also check MusicFX. Normally with other ROMs I have to do that and then enable the switch in the Tone/Volume screen, but that switch doesn't appear on Liquid so you may not need to check that box.

Then plug in your headphones. That seems to kick start Poweramp/Viper. In Viper settings you may have to disable and renable it. Then it should process everywhere until a reboot. Then you gotta do the headphones thing again.

What variant do you have? And where did the modem come from? Most ROMs now need the stock modem. The actual one that came with the OTAs. If you're using one from dr87's thread that were patched to fix rotation, they won't work.

OMNI 6.0.1 vanilla build

Hi guys,
I built the latest omnirom for our Z3 compact using sources kindly provided and created by Humberto Borba. There will be very little support for this ROM but I wanted to provide it as is for anyone who wants to use a custom ROM as the current choices for our device are pretty limited. I am not a DEV for this device but I do know how to build.
You will need an UNLOCKED BOOTLOADER
So all that goes with that ie loss of DRM etc applies here. You will also need the latest version of the bootloader to get this to work, so ensure you are coming from an uptodate 5.1.1 ROM or any 6.0.1 ROM
If you want to install GAPPS then you will need to do it immediately after installing the ROM. Do not reboot and then install GAPPs
Whats more the camera does have the fisheye lens distortion. Anyone following the AOSP dev work will be familiar with all the issues on the phone.
Again I am not posting this as a DEV project or in the DEV channels as I didn't develop it and won't be supporting it in any meaningful way.
kind regards
Download
Updated link to folder of all builds so I won't need to update links anymore
Can you take screenshort
Ill take some screen shots on the next build. Omni have just added a new camera for snap dragon devices so I am keen to give that a spin

Hi! Thanks for your work with thiese vanilla build. I'm so impressed the whole flash procedure. I'm came from slimm1.5 rom, wiped data, cache, dalvik, system in twrp 3.0.2.0 then flashed omnirom homemade, after that slimm gapps. The whole flash time, the first time boot was incredible fast. The whole system was quickiest to the nowdays roms. I tested the new camera, but i think the fiah eye bug is still there.. But maybe not so "big eye" like previously aosp roms. Anyway, I like it. Now, testing the battery life

I guess there is no critical difference with Most other countrie's 2.4 and 5.0 GHz 802.11 channels.
Found channels on my wireless router, same with bellow's information about In Korea sections.

@mcgi5sr2 thank's 4 building a custom rom and being motivated to contribute here. do you see any way to get rid of the fisheye camera bug? i've bought my z3c in january 2015 already and built/offered a custom rom (pacman) some weeks later. i stopped contributions 3 months later, when i went to holidays and needed a fully working camera. since then i saw MANY MANY talented and motivated developers & contributers here coming and leaving within only 1 year. i'm personally using concept rom which i find quite satisfying for every day use.
but i think there won't be any wide rom developement for that nice little device if the pictures taken keep being that unusable...

As of yet I don't know how to get rid of the fish eye lens effect. If I am honest I probably won't anytime soon either as I have a lot to be working on IRL

Hi Charles,
I have not been able to gain root. Initially I thought it was due to the SEpolicy denying root access. However the last few builds have had SEpolicy set to permissive so would allow root. However I am still struggling to even install root. The official Omni line is that all their builds allow for the use of systemless root from Chainfire. They do not support system root which is what is used on the stock Sony derived builds.
If you have any success regarding root please let me know.

You are a good developer, your ROM is the most stable of third party Android M.:good:
Thanks but all praise should go the omni and SonyAOSP teams
Could please post the link (if any) of the config file repo you used to compile the ROM ?

the platform manifest I use is from OmniRoms github.
https://github.com/omnirom/android
and for the AOSP builds
https://github.com/SonyAosp/platform_manifest
as you will be able to see from these, I am only building not developing. That said I am currently synching up again for some new builds. Sony have released some new a3xxx adreno blobs so camera may be even more stable.

A thread to contain all testing and comments on the AOSP based ROMs built for the Sony Aries (d5803) Z3 Compact using the Open Devices device trees. The Dev work is that of the Open Devices Team.
Current up to date ROMs include AOSP Nougat 7.1.1 (/w GApps)
I am happy to attempt other builds an versions if people will use them. I make these builds regularly for my own personal use, but through I would share the awesome work done by the Sony AOSP project team with the xda Z3 Compact community

Most files will require you to remove the first line the updater script.
I recommend using twrp 3.0.2 to flash as I find 3.0.2-1 sometimes fails

Current issues on Nougat are camera quality is low, and video recording is non functioning. As far as I can test everything else seems to work very well. I am currently interested in the in call volume, as I am testing a simple fix for making it dynamic again.
Update
In call audio is still static, and their is still echo for the person on the other end of the line
Did you use the new camera blobs?

Yes, he uses the latest blobs, but camera blobs still have a looong way to be improved.
How about battery life ? I want to know while sleeping.
My z3c is 0.2-0.5%/h while device is sleeping on marshmallow rom (slimm rom).
How do you Install this? The zip contains a cpgz.
Flash through recovery. I am building 7.1 tonight for more testing. Battery life so far is more than a day for me, but will obviously vary depending on usage. I would suggest people suck it and see.

That should be a bug caused by the Google app. Just disable Google Now completely (the voice activated module, to be precise), and you should be fine. The same thing bugged me for days when I bought the phone...

I just installed, and in 30 minutes went from 85% battery to 20% , NFC kept toggling on and off by itself.
for me:
* nfc keeps toggling on and off
* camera keeps FC
* SD card unusable
* maybe its a new gesture or swipe but i cannot open the notification / quicksettings panels
mileage may vary!
thanks for doing this and i'll be checking the 7.1 build as well
After reinstalling things went a lot smoother:
Current problems I found in aosp_d5803-ota-eng.mcgi5sr2-N5D91L-20161127 :
* phone crashes and reboots during phone calls
* other person hears its own echo while calling or being called
* camera works seldom; really low quality and force closes a lot
* no flashlight (probably related to camera)
* sometimes phone will not enter in deep sleep due to a QC usb wakelock (battery life still 1 day )
* battery percentage sometimes drops at around 50% to 10 but recovers later to ~50%
Thanks for feedback for lkzy I'm glad the second flash had better results. Could you include what Rom you are using in your posts plz.
Downloaded, going to install today. I'll give some feedback tomorrow. What gapps package is included in AOSP?

Allright, just did,
also the phone crashes and reboots when I call someone after ~5 minutes.
For people updating from Lollipop, TWRP will restore your backup, but it will endlessly show boot-animation. I read in the dev-only kernel topic this might have something to do with a wrong filesystem of the appslog partition.. I do not know how to fix or change this though, so I'm now stuck on nougat as daily driver. it aint bad, but the calling crash kinda breaks the phone
So far works nice, I'm on aosp_d5803-ota-eng.mcgi5sr2-N5D91L-20161127
Camera is really low quality, but doesn't crash. Video recording and FM Radio don't work. There are some small animations lags sometimes. I haven't had any longer calls yet, but Phone works well. Not sure about sound quality.
Can I use standard TWRP and flash SuperSU on it?

How am I supposed to install TWRP? After flashing 3.0.2.1 through Flash tool system doesn't boot. Will it work after flashing through ADB?

I flashed through adb, that worked for me.
@mcgi5sr2
I was unable to flash 20163011 btw. it gives a error patching system and stops.

"And probably have not much time to dedicate at a thread ..."
Old first post.
On the AndroidFileHost site STELIX Pippo X3 was created AOKP [Oreo] for Oneplus X.
Those interested can download ROM.zip
@PippoX3, why do not you have a thread about AOKP for Oneplus X on XDA?

Data, WiFi works fine.
Camera doesn't work. Tried snapcamera,oos camera,footej.
I'll try to update the details along the way.
Good work with the ROM, it's buttery smooth.

Privacy guard - yes
Local account for contacts - no
Oos cam - not working
As far as I know there's no USB mass storage since Android version 4x. And yes MTP works just fine.
Edit:
For some reason I can't set a ringtone.
Camera and Video work fine here ... 02-17 build
Edit: GPS working too!

Sure, I'm using GZR KA
Edit: I spoke to soon, no you can't. Neither over clock or under volt. You can change to the standard 5 govs.

yep we need custom kernel devs like boeffla franco etc. to help here.
Fixes for camera,
usb mass storage working only on recovery as far as I know.
But no issues to manage internal/external with local apps.
Using ashwinr64 code, with very few fixes.

On the 21th build :
- I still have the GPS stuck issue...
Did you see the changes on the Yume AOSP on GPS?
- I'm pretty sure the persons I called had somme echo issues. it happen with the 2 persons I called for a "long" time.
Updated on the 23th :
- Had to activated DTTW via kernel audiutor
- have to check the 2 bugs above

Hi,
Photo problems again on the 3th march version.
Still (had it on a lot of Oreo ROMS, never before...) have the GPS issue on it...
On the last version, I made it work changing the gps.conf.
With this version, it seems worse....

I'd find more convenient and clear for everyone to post on this subject.
Do you need some logs?
Here is a log for camera.
I just opened normal cam and take picture.
Open op5 bacon port and take one too.
Then I tried video and boths apps were OK.
PippoX3 said:
Yep, probably the better choice. I'm spending some time on it because it's my testing device. But I'd like more, to push ahead entire AOKP base. Btw, I'll follow your suggestion.
In the meanwhile I have a testing build with camera working. As far I tested, MTP only isn't working.
My work it's based upon @YumeMichi and @ashwin007 code.

Yeep. Flashed OK for me.
I'm taking a backup. GPS still locked but I know I have to install OOS to reset it...
Will test others functions but seems really fluid
@PippoX3 Okay so :
- USB mount did not work at first. Had to activate it twice, and activating aagain USB debog
- DTTW need kernel audiutor setting to work
- Photo and video OK. Panorama broken. HDR ok. didn't have time to check exactly slowmo...
- I unlocked GPS by reflashing OOS in between. Will try to figure why or what lock it this time !!
Will tell if echo on call is still here but it was gone on last build.
