which kernel is the best... - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Im new here soo i dont know which kernel is best for performamce nd battery, Green Apple, duki994, or the stock one...presently im in xtrestolite..

It all depends on your personal preferences.
Stock provides the best stability and performance with good battery life. But if you want to try, go for Boeflla Kernel.

Try stock, GreenApple v1 and Duki mms v1.9 beta kernel each for a week
Which ever you feel it's good use it
Because each has their own settings and battery life and performance will vary
So I recommend you to try all three each for a period of one week

I have not tested Duki kernel fully yet so can't give it's feedback

Battery comparison

Hey,
there is no topic where ROMs can be compared by their battery usage, so I decided to open such a topic.
It's hard to compare battery drain due to the diffrent usage of your phone so I thought about using an app and a easy to reconstructable environment.
I would prefer this app: Badass Battery Monitor.
Environment:
Min. 6 hours unplugged after full charge, unused (perhaps at night).
Wifi off
3G on
Just post your ROM and ur battery consumption per hour (please calc also with the minutes, to minimize the faults.
Incompatible with my device!
Sent from my MT15i
Only had the patience for 2 hours, unused, no wifi, radio on.

I have my own criteria to appreciate the battery consumption. When I go to sleep, I read the battery level %. In the morning I read it again. That way, I noticed no difference between ROMs (locked BL, only stock, always rooted, bloatware removed, five ROMs tried until now, *.58 for the moment): around 3-5% per night. Always I administrate the radios manually.
Plus, *.58 version comes with a new stock app, called `Power Save mode`, with interesting options.
Was just an idea yet.
But 1%/h is a great performance...
If there are some more values, I'll make a list
Tried do flash blend kernel, didn't boot... how did u get that working? I also have GWK74 and latest Blend-kernel, but stuck at bootloader image....
Well, I'm still amazed too.
The only downside is that I feel like my battery is draining faster when I'm using my phone. So I should probably keep the tweaks for the deep sleep state and flash another kernel again.
I think your idea is great, I'm constantly searching for the best battery saving ROM and kernel.

Very good battery life here, but I am careful with managing the screen back light and adjusting it to deal with the ambient light conditions (not brighter than I need it to be).

Which Kernel is the best for battery life/standby drain?

Or is it best to just stick with stock kernel?
I'm on elemental kernel right now and honestly I feel I had better standby and all around better battery on stock.

I tried it and had very high standby drain with it. What is the point of a Kernel if not for better battery life? LOL
Battery life is subjective to personal usage if someone gets 10hrs sot + 1 day of standby doesn't mean you will get it, Best advice is to try different stuff and see which suits your needs.

I meant personal needs not every kernel is built with battery in mind some are performance others are just generic code compile with latest GCC and disable warnings... Not worth wasting time with but try them for yourself and see which you like best. Yes roms are worth it if the dev is optimizing for our SoC and not just cherry picking random sh!t.

Battery life is pretty subjective to personal use as previously mentioned, but i think there is another option in town. The Oneplus 6t MC Edition charger is the solution. I needed proof and YouTube got me the evidence. Check out the video by Dave Lee on Youtube. He does a test on it.
I second Smurf Kernel.
On average I get about 10 hours screen time over 2 or 3 days before I need to charge my phone again.

Umm... What

improve battery life and memory management

So since there are a lot of mods available to improve battery life and memory management as well i thought it would be a good idea to have a place to talk about what fellow users are using on their daily driver to improve the most important things on pixel lol
Magisk modules scripts kernels build prop edits and you get the idea
So lets begin
for me, any custom ROM's battery life is better than stock ROM, the usual SOT is 7.5-8 hrs on average. If yours is much worse, the battery seems to be replaced.
As for the management issue, you can flash the custom kernel and expand the volume of ZRAM which is a conception of virtual.

Ok I'm again here to solve BATTERY DRAIN ISSUES in pie ROMs (personally tested)

So guys .... I'm again here to help you all out to eliminate the battery drain issue in pie roms to very much extent ? ... So we don't need much mods .....
Things we need are here....
1.Nameless kernel by LibXZR ...im sure you all know this kernel ( all credits goes to it's original dev)
2.Nfs injector mod(magisk)
3.zuklineagethermal(for better gaming experience)
4.Galacticadeepsleepmod(by Pawan Rockz) which i personally use (you'll see no drain overnight when device in idle state ?)
Procedure.......
I personally use aosip rom and currently I'm still on it ... Well you can try on other roms too ... Try and tell me... But i recommend a clean flash ....
Ok so first flash rom, gapps as usual ... Now flash attached kernel, then flash attached zuklineagethermals, then flash Galacticadeepsleep mod which i provided and at last flash magisk .... Now reboot device let it settle and flash nfs injector mod via magisk and reboot ....and yes you're done .... Battery will improve gradually atleast test until 2-3 cycles
My secret personal settings?- Use any kenel manager like kernel auditor or exkernel manager and underclock cpu little cores to 1.3 ghz and big to 1.8 ghz ... Trust me it will not decrease performance of the device and set governor- schedutil and i/o scheduler to bfq(smoothest experience) ... Even it will reduce heating issues and improve gaming time..... Now let device settle and you're done....
Now things you'll notice ..... Seamless lag free experience overall ... No gaming lag ..... Improved battery plus no or minimal device idle drain ??
Plz hit thanks if it help you and please reply about your experience in this thread .......
I willl also post sot screenshots of a full cycle use after few time ?
Note : all credits goes to creators of all these mods
Everything is attached below so don't panic...

So here you can take an idea about how well battery is going to perform... This is my totally normal day to day usage after full charge... No gaming .... already 3hrs+ sot And still 44% left so .... It's sure that I'm going to get 4.5 + sot and you can see the battery drain overnight is almost 0% ... I slept almost 7-8 hours

Requesting answer:
1. Screen shot after ROM settle 3-5 days..
2. Do you use Jio all time?
3. What is onscreen battery drain outside?
4. Phone warm while normal usage?
5. Accubattery screen shot after a week usage if you use.
6. How old is your phone now?
PS. As you are on aosip with nameless
1. Is there signal bar fluctuations?
2. Spectrum support present on nameless?
3. Custom font present?
Recommended: gapps or mindthegapps?

Bro .... Actually the default performance of nameless is a bit limited so you will notice lags here and there and mainly in gaming .... So the biggest reason to flash nfs is to eliminate the overall lag and get seamless performance and without compromising battery drain and it works 100 % that's why nfs is must recommend by me ... Otherwise you can check for yourself with nfs flashed and without nfs .... You'll see huge difference .... It's recommended strongly
