Sprint policy on the recall of the Note 7 - Sprint Note 7 Guides, News, & Discussion

Sprint just told me i can either take it into the store right now and get a loaner phone till the new one comes in OR i can keep it till the new one comes in late next week they claim. So screw the loaner phone ill take the screen protector off and have fun with it for 10 days or so till the new one comes in.
Seems like a good thing from sprint to give either a loaner phone or let you exchange it in store no matter where you bought it.

Are they recalling ALL of the note 7s?
Dave

Fairly sure it has to be working. If you break it and it stops working they will not honor it, almost certainly. Enjoy it but be safe with it.

All I know is I just ripped the film screen protector off this one and no longer care about scratches. I bought the phone outright from Best buy so I might wait a little while and buy one of the newer models off eBay for a few hundred cheaper and get a full refund for this "defective" device.

I would love to just give this thing back. Between no longer having data/voice at the same time, problems w/ streaming audio on my 2013 kia I'm ready to go back to my note 3 w/ a note 5 ROM.
Dave

I wonder if they're gonna give me sh*t for purchasing two via Best Buy instead of them....
This phone has been great and I even hate to turn it in.

I guess I can start running caseless now too

I too will wait until next week.

It's not a mandatory recall, it's voluntary. However, I don't see why you wouldn't exchange it.

Did you contact Sprint or Best Buy? Everywhere I read it said the return policy is irrelevant in this case since it's a recall.

Bestbuy, they told me that i would have to go through samsung if it was past 14 days. Mine is still less than a week . Hopefully they get the replacements in before my 14 days are up.

Heck today was the 14th day for me. That doesn't make sense, what difference does it make? How would you go about getting the replacement from Samsung? I wonder if you have to return the phone to the place of purchase or can you take it to Sprint?
Sent from my SM-N930P using XDA-Developers mobile app

No 14 day thing i was told. The guy at sprint store told me it does not matter when i bought it or how long till it takes them to get them in. The 14 day restocking fee etc are all waived. And as said ill have fun with the phone but not abuse it just not worry about a tiny scratch.
And i bought mine on the website and the sotre will still take it back. If you dial *2 it will tell you all the ways to return it.

Noise is already being made by some that have bought from Best Buy. You have to deal with Best Buy from what I hear.

I agree, if you bring in a busted phone you may be stuck.

Better safe than sorry especially if you are a power user. I am trading mines in for s7 edge tomorrow.

I went into BestBuy after dinner and got my exchange done with no issue. Knowing Sprints policy, the day you get a phone counts as day 1. So I had to return it today(Friday) even though Saturday is technically 14 days.
They were cool about it and said how they stopped selling them etc. They asked why I wanted to return it and I explained the lag and battery drain, plus the whole recall thing. They put the upgrade back on my line (I have a legacy pan with 2yr upgrades) and did the return. Got a full refund with no restocking fee and I got to keep the Gear Fit 2. Pretty cool of them.
Now I'm just gonna see what's on the horizon next.

I just got back from Sprint with my new S7 edge. I see why they look similar. They claimed the new supply of note 7 will be in on Monday but doubt it.

Yeah that's way too fast. The recall was announced on Friday and they will get replacements on Monday which is a holiday?
I call BS. It might be old stock.
A good question is how can we tell that when we get a replacement, it's one with battery issues fixed?

New Epic! Finally

Well, on January 19th I cracked the screen on my Epic when it fell off my truck. It's been at best buy since then, well they finally called me today to tell me they're junking it out and they have a replacement ready for me.
Well, I live in upstate NY and have been in Chicago all week, so hearing that voicemail today I got all excited and went straight to the store to pick up my new Epic (Ready to throw my old stand in Hero against the wall). I get to the store and they don't have any in stock! Idiots...so after 30 minutes on the phone, i'm going to another store aobut 15 miles away to pick up a new Epic...FINALLY!
Just would advise anyone thinking of Best Buy as your insurer to think twice...I know I'll most likely cancel this service as soon as I receive my new Epic. I'm sure many people have had great experiences with them, but this has totally turned me off...geek squad is a joke as they don't know what they are doing and they each seem to have their own take on what their policy is.
well, i'll shut up and look forward to getting back into the fun with my Epic again....I miss this sooo much!
Chris
Over a month for a replacement? LOL
Thanks for the heads up on Best buy. I'm on my third Epic and the turn around at the Sprint store was always one day.
Dude stick with the sprint insurance. I went through 2 phones and both times got them the very next day.
Definitely going the Sprint route next time around. BB is a joke, the Geek Squad in store staff is terrible as they don't even know their own policy...One of the PT girls in the mobile department was the one who told me to call their 800 number because they should be replacing the phone after 30 days. It bothers me that the only person who is of help is a college girl who I imagine works part time...I'm definately going to find the store manager and her mobile manager to thank her for her help....as for their geek sqaud, they can eat it!
Chris....oh yeah, can I start up sprint insurance at this point? Not getting the phone from sprint?
I cracked my screen too a couple days ago at 6pm I made my insurance claim. I had a new phone at my door by 10 am. So fn nice.
Epic 4g
At least you got a brand new phone. I love the price and turn around on my Sprint insurance, but I'm about to recieve my 3rd refurb because the previous two had hardware defects. At this point I'd wet myself if someone told me I could have and actual, new phone.

That's what I was thinking....wow. I have never bought a cellphone from best buy but is this normal for them? I have only bought computers from them. Just from my experience with best buy and a laptop I use to have I will never let geak squad touch anything of mine and won't buy their insurance

The thing to realize about the best buy "black tie" insurance is that no matter what you do to your phone they'll either repair it or give you a new one no questions asked or fees charged, one month turn around excluded it's a pretty great idea.
The idea is great, but the execution is extremely poor...as in the right hand doesn't know what the left is doing.
I store near me seems to be one of the worst, from reviews I've read of the location.
I stopped by their store on monday to see, since that was the day AFTER it was promised to be ready on my invoice...nothing. BUT they promised to escalate with an email (more on that later).
The next day I left for Chicago to visit some family, and the first thing I did on wednesday morning was stop by a local best buy out there, heck there were 2 within 2 miles of where I was staying.
The store I stopped into was somewhat helpful, more so than my home store...they geek that looked at my info said he could escalate the case, but couldn't exchange in their store since the work order wasn't generated in their store...when he offered to escalate with an email I told him that was done 2 days ago...he pulled up the screen and said nothing was in the system, and generated an email to escalate.
Even after calling their 800 number minutes later to get clarification on their policy of handsets being replaced in the homestore, the lady on the phone pulled up the file and said "oh you were just in our chicago store" noting the excalation...I asked her if there was one from my home store, she said nope!
A-holes!
On paper this plan is well worth it, the problem is execution!
Chris
I guess the question then is, do the new epics come loaded with eb13 or di18?
this is a little off topic but best buy insurance sucks i had a laptop that stayed there for a month and got it back and half of the problems sitll there they fixed my screen but i had no sound though the audio ports and battery lasted for 10 mins... so i just ordered the parts (ebay) myself and fixed it myself
Black tie definitely sucks! My wife and I both have epics, she has black tie and I have the TEP. Well she dropped her phone a while back and cracked the screen, took it to best buy for repair. It took them over a month for it to get repaired. The idiots sent it off with the wrong serial number, so the repair shop sent it right on back. She sent it off in November and didn't get it until past the new year...
If you need a loaner phone from them while it gets repaired, you'll have to pay a $100 to use that loaner phone. Sure you'll get it back when you return the phone but what's the point of paying 10 a month?
I on the other hand, had issues with my headphone jack, went into the sprint store and right then and there they tried fixing my phone. It coudln't be fixed on site, so they just gave me a new phone. I was in the store for just about an hour. It's the way to go.
One more thing the TEP covers that Black Tie doesn't is lost or theft. If you lose your phone, your screwed under black tie. Under the TEP, you'll have to pay the $100 deductible, but at least you won't have to rebuy the phone at full price. She's switching over to TEP for sure now. Just like the previous poster stated, great idea, poor execution...

Who gets mad about having to get your first evo phone replaced by a refurb?

How many of you get pretty mad when you spent 400 to 250 on your evo and it was brand new outta the box and you babied it and then you had the light bleed or b spot effect on your screen 3 or 4 months later and when you take your phone in they swap it out calling it a new one thats a refurb kinda wish they give you a brand new one that had all the issues fixed dont you for the amount you paid for?
what do you guys think?
I buy my phones from bestbuy and use their insurance so if my phone messes up then they just replace it with brand new one. They don't use referbs. Just fyi for later buys. They also have buy back program. So basically when I upgrade next Jan they will be paying me for my next phone.

Much better. Plus with buy back bestbuy will give me like 40-50% of original($650) after a year when my upgrade comes up. Only bad thing is they don't replace phone if its list it stolen
not all ways true last phone i had they never replaced it just wanted to keep sending it out and have it fixed and handing me a pos loaner
my first evo started to restart randomly, first thing the sprint rep did was do a hard reset and format the sd. I had a feeling that would not fix it and in fact the problem only got worse. When I took my EVO back the second time, they ordered me a "new" phone. The next week I was able to go pick it up. Soon as i got home i noticed 4 b-spots 3 of them are horribly distracting. Im procrastinating going back to the store cuz i am tired of the run around every time i go in. One thing that is weird to me is that i supposedly have hardware version 4. shouldnt the b spots be fixed by now on this version?

Only Novatek screens exhibit the "b spots", and H/W 0004 has been using Novatek screens along with Epson. So some unlucky 0004 owners have the crappy LCD panels.

I bought my evo around christmas, I was in a bad accident feb 1st that thrashed my phone, I placed a order with assurion and it took them three weeks to get my phone because it was on" back order", so I assumed the phone was gonna be new but when I went to activate it on sprint.com in the description of the phone said "refurb unit" which means I waited three weeks for a refurbished phone paid a $100 insurance fee and the the phone came with a scratch out the box!!! thanks assurion
I'll order replacement parts and fix it myself, if possible.

Yes, I completely agree that it sucks getting a refurb. But the truth is, your phone is NOT NEW ANYMORE. It's 3-4 months old, making it USED. Sprint should NOT have to give you a brand new phone to replace your USED one.
That being said though, I have had a few bad refurb evo's. But, I just take it back to sprint store, or call CS. I explain that while I understand I will get a refurb, the phone should be in good physical and working condition, as my last phone was. Then they either give me another refurb, or a new model for the inconvenience.
I don't mind as long as it works and I've had no problems with mine. I too am normally nervous about refurbs, only because I've had bad - and numerous - refurb issues with electronics. But as long as it works I couldn't care less.

I don't know what planet you're from but that's never the case with Best Buy. They will ALWAYS try to repair your phones which means sending it in for 2 weeks while you get stuck with a crappy loaner for the mean time. If it is not repairable, then they'll provide you with a new unit as long as they don't have something that has been returned to them in working condition.
Sprint will at least attempt to fix your phone on the spot so you're not wasting so much time and then send you a refurb (some times new devices).
I have recently had bad experiences with Sprints refurbs but kept exchanging it until I was 100% happy (3rd try) with no questions asked.
BTW, Best Buy's insurance is $10 a month, while Sprint's is $7 (30% less). Also, BB's insurance DOES NOT cover lost/stolen phones (not even if paying $100 deductible), Sprint does.
Done...
I talked to the manager at the sprint location I did my warranty swap at and told him I only wanted a new evo. Explained my side, waiting in line on opening day, etc., etc. and he agreed. So there are other ways....even at Sprint.

Likewise..
My last replacement was a refurb with a cracked case and a weird bright spot on the screen.
I called 15 minutes after opening the box and Asurion promptly sent me a brand new one.
I wanted a brand new one too and Asurion could not guarantee it. I got a refurb and often wonder if it has been better than my original would have been. I had my original 3 weeks and cracked the screen

Broke my 6p screen :(

Got it on Wednesday with o2 on contract, dropped it tonight at work while waiting for my case to arrive Monday anyone know how much they are to fix? I bet it ain't cheap in UK btw
Why would you do that for
Felt like being upset lol
At least you are being honest about it lol... Give Huawei a call or just get insurance and then declare it broken. Or check with your credit card. Most of them offer protection for accidents.
Bummer, hope you're able to get it replaced...

You should always buy a case and screen protector right when you buy your device so that you'll have them altogether the same day or even earlier.
I think you still might able to sign up for nexus protect or something. Do it. It's probably your cheapest option. You might have to wait to file a claim. But if you can hold out give that a shot. Or call huawei

Nexus protect can only be purchased when you buy the device, unless you got it on Fi before Nprotect was available.
I asked if I could sign up for nexus protect and they told me that It had to be purchased at time of sale. Otherwise I would of had to send back phone and then re purchase it with the protection.... How dumb is that? They would rather get a used open phone back rather then take my 80+ bucks for protection I may never use anyhow

He isn't scamming anybody as long as he purchases extra insurance. Other manufacturers even fix the screen for free for you, so save you fake whatever you are trying to come out as for another time.
Checkout square trade for a warranty. Their only requirement is sign up within 30 days of purchase and proof of purchase. Amazing service to!
If you bought it from google then call them. Tell them you broke the screen. You will get one time replacement for a fee. My father in law paid $100 for Nexus 6 for broken screen after only 4 days of purchase.

Sorry, you clearly don't understand contract law, nor have you read the terms of the Protect policy (I have). Signing up for insurance on an already broken device is a violation of the terms of the policy and contract fraud. What "other" manufacturers do has no relevance here. Don't talk about things you don't understand.

That was the policy on the 6. Are you sure Google is still offering that on the 6P? I think Protect has replaced that deal.

No, of course I am not sure. But worth a try.
There's another thread here that indicates neither Google nor Huawei will perform a non-warranty repair on a broken 6P, at any price, unless it's covered by Protect. They tell you to take it to an independent repair shop.

Battery Woes And Google Support.

So like many others I began experiencing the issue of Phone Shutdown when the battery dropped below 40% So called Google support, and even though my warranty expired December 2016, they are shipping me a free replacement.
Go Google!
Third replacement for this issue is on the way. There is a note on my account for a full refund if this one doesn't work.

Replacement what? Phone? Batteries? Every time I have called them, they have just processed a replacement and it has shipped the same or next day. To be honest, I'm kinda hoping this replacement (which I received yesterday) doesn't work at this point. Would rather get my money back and get a new phone.

Got an email yesterday, replacement is on it's way.
Mine was out of warranty too, and I appreciate that they sent me a refurbished phone - but they sent me one in even worse shape than the one I have! Did they not test it before they sent it out? It shuts down at 35%, whereas my bad phone shut off at a mere 15%.
Refurbished means replaced battery - right?
I am awaiting the second replacement, but my confidence is falling.
I'm scared at this point to get a Pixel XL, as I hear they are prone to this issue as well. What gives?

The replacement they sent me, albeit generously because my phone was out of warranty, was in worse shape than the one I am trying to replace. My old phone shuts down at 15%. The "replacement" shuts down at 35%. And bootlooped on me.
Doesn't sound like refurbished to me, but rather recycled, from one unhappy customer to another.
Hopefully replacement #2 will work out, but my confidence is shaken in this phone, which I loved while it worked.
I bought the Nexus 6P from an independent store, not from Google. Anyone knows if Google send replacement if the phone is not bought at Google Store?

2. Second had a battery issue
3. The third one and the one I have now was okay.

I bought the Nexus 6P from an independent store, not from Google. Anyone knows if Google send replacement if the phone is not bought at Google Store?

I bought it from Amazon (since I bought it on july 2016, they're done with me. LOL).
thank you
I bought mine on Craigslist, did an online chat with Google, told them it was purchased through play store (which the seller did do). It was about 2-3 months out of warranty, and they sent me a replacement within 3 days.
Fun side-note: my original was a 32GB model. Replacement was 64gb model.

ur lucky.
replacements are based on availability of stocks
if 32gb is not available and 64gb is on list then they will send you the 64gb or even 128gb...

Oh I did get it. Lucky for me they were out of the Silver and I got a black one instead.
Is there a particular link for the live chat or just do it through the store live chat where the phone was bought from?

Warranty Claims So Soon!

Anybody else have a warranty claim due to defects? Let's log them! I have a defective headphone jack. I'm going to wait 'till Sammy gets caught up supplying phones to everyone before I even think about sending it in. Meanwhile where is that Bluetooth headset...
I had one that kept rebooting on its own. I tried flashing the latest firmware and still rebooted. After T-Mobile telling me it's too new to the a standard manufacturer warranty claim, they told me to swap it out at the store for a brand new device. No issues since.

Nice, it is good to hear they switched it for a new device. Did you stick with snapdragon or go to the exynos version?

If he swapped it at store it had to be Snapdragon, T-mo doesn't have Exynos unless it's European branch?
Snapdragon, it was T-Mobile US
I had to do a warranty claim on a T-mobile variant... it kept dropping signals. They simply replaced it with a brand new one in the retail box. The whole transaction only took a week with free two-day shipping both ways.

Got mine on Wednesday 11, set everything up. Thursday around 12 phone just went black. It felt warm so thought it was processing something... Hooked up transfer adapter and plugged into S7. It started charging the s7. Co worker had s8. I asked him to power down his phone, and put in adapter. It wouldn't charge. Took back the replaced.. Also I did try holding down power button to force reset nothing.

Well my issue was with the gs8 TMobile, may happen to note 8 due to having same screen. I basically had a bad digitizer... Phone just became unresponsive... I called up let tech know I ran through all troubleshooting steps... Started return process had a new phone overnight ship to me.
Again so far the note 8 has been a dream, but that was with gs8 approx 3 weeks ago..

I had a Day 1 claim. My first one had a dead pixel, called it in they over nighted me a new one. Before I returned it I put in the Samsung promo for the first Note 8.
I now have the free Gear 360 camera, Wireless Charger and Memory card for my troubles!

I had light leakage on the sides of the glass. Sent it in to Samsung repair in Texas on the 12th of last month. Received it back about 2 weeks later. I mean they fixed it, but they ended up replacing like half of the phone for some reason. I'm surprised they even had the parts for repairs.
My microphone stopped working about 4 days into ownership (Snapdragon; Orchid Gray). I could only make calls and do voice-related activities by headset or BT.
Being within the 14-day remorse period, I was required to purchase a new device (so I switched to Black this time) and send my defective one back in. At first, they wanted to charge me shipping $6.99 and sent it on the slow boat. I had to call back and request that another agent fix that. They charged me $24.99 for expedited, but then credited that back to my account. So, I will be having a new device soon, but it's such a hassle. I really hope there are no issues with this next one, My Note 4 lasted me 3 years and I still have it by my bedside.

Did you buy direct from Samsung or from your carrier? I bought from Sammy and since there are so many backorders I figure I won't get a replacement fast. Thus, I'll wait till the dust settles, but I like listening via the earbuds rather than bluetooth.

I ordered from T-mobile TeleSales group in order to get the $125 promo along with the BOGO promo.
They've got plenty of devices, so it was just a matter of ordering more. Unfortunately, the store is hoarding their supply for their own sales rather than use them for serving a TeleSales customer since they do not earn money at the store-level.

I see. I'll just keep waiting for Samsung to catch up with preorders, lol! Then I'll make my claim.
