How to root my SM-A500M Android 6.0.1? - Galaxy A3, A5, A7, A8, A9 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

Hi!
I've just updated my android from 5.0.2 to 6.0.1 using a firmware from sammobile and lost the root I had previously (super user).
I tried installing from cf-root using the version they already have for 5.0.2 and at first it seemed to have worked, since it started to show my phone device's status as custom, and also to show kernel's status at the black start screen with the logo samsung.
Then, I tried changing an app into a system file using Link2SD and the app vanished instead of working again. When I get to install the .apk again, it shows as an update (of something that is not running anywhere) and don't ask any new permission.
I guess the problem is because of the root I used, but I'm not sure. My mobile is dual sim (brazil's trend...) and the app I'm trying to hide is Cerberus (I have the pro version, disguised, but want to make it "blended" as it was before the Android update).
I did the unroot with the SU app, but my device is still showing as a "custom" one at the system's about (the kernel's status is not appearing at initialization tho).
I want to know what to do to fix that and how to properly root the new android marshmallow. If not possible, I even consider downgrading my phone to the previous android until the root is available (security from thieves first, unfortunately!).

Doen anyone know if there is other variant rom we can use in a500M

Wait for CF-AutoRoot
Some A5 variants have received the root file for Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow

Not the A500M, yet.

Option 1: Flash CTR o TWRP with Odin. Then, flash SuperSU.zip from recovery.
Option 2: Flash CF-AutoRoot (Lollipop version) with Odin.
PS: If you want more options antitheft, you can use Xposed and GravityBox or Advanced Power Menu modules to disable the Power-Off menu when the screen is locked.
Good Luck

So I can use your "Option 1" to root my device with 6.0.1 even if it's a 5.0.2 method? (I just want to make sure to not brick my phone).

I personally did it with flashing a prerooted firmware from TWRP recovery, since I was on rooted 5.0.2.
Didn't do it quite well, but the only oddity is an app icon that remained in my drawer. Must be the first attempt of installing the supersu with the prerooted zip. After installing the supersu as standalone it shows a different icon.
Device is rooted and has dual recovery, because root explorer and cerberus asked for permission. Installed 4K and 120fps mod. Also installed intelligent gestures (smart call handling, smart rotation and smart backlight) and face in camera.apk. Those are the extras I needed.
Forgot to say that I created a prerooted zip from customized GR from Xperifirm, since I live in Greece.
I am not sharing the zip though, because of the stupid icon remaining in the app drawer. Maybe I will revert to kitkat again, root it and try once again.
thx 4 fast answer
thanks alot guys i was able 2 make a pre rooted flashble fie and i flash'd it and works fine but the thing i wanana do right now is getting xposed some how to work on 5.1.1

S4 Question - Messed up root

I used towel root to root my S4, and I somehow allowed an auto update, which downloaded the updated, tried to install but failed. But I lost my root.
I am running 4.4.2 - Kitkat right?
So I don't have root, and I cannot update my phone - Is it possible for me to root it again? If so is there a link to instructions?
Thanks in advance, the DoridForums people sent me here -

I dunno what you are running.
1. You can take a look in your Settings - About device (Pic attached).
2. Try again Towel Root if you still running android 4.4.2 for root again your device.
3. Tell us how it works.
* You can download OTA udpates but you can't install them when you are rooted. Root your device modify system. It changes of OFFICIAL to CUSTOM. OTA detects it and give you a error when you try to install the update.
Ok attached is my about phone info -
I just tried towel root again, and it says this phone is not currently supported. So again, thought I would see what my easy options might be.
I can't post an image or links, Android version says 4.4.2 - If that's what you need? If not let me know which number you need
Use CF-Autoroot to root instead of Towelroot. While CF-Autoroot requires the Odin software to use, it's far more consistent in its results since it temporarily replaces the existing recovery with a recovery that will install SuperSU into the /system partition. Unlike Towelroot, CF-Autoroot is version agnostic, meaning it will work regardless of the version of Android installed.
There is an entire thread on CF-Autoroot. Hit the search bar at the top of the page and I'm sure you'll find it.

(Q) Alternative methods to root or flash a custom recovery

Hi all, I have a problem with my device and I can not use the data port USB to perform the conventional method of root (flashing with Odin), so I wanted to get It using those "one click root" but most of these applications throw me errors (may be because I am in the latest version kitkat 4.4.4) before this problem I wanted to downgrade installing an official and signed version of android 4.3, through the stock recovery (with the option to apply update in the SD card) And I wanted to know if this recovery option works also to install another version of android without necessarily being an update. I would also like to receive recommendations on others Methods to root or install a custom recovery that apply to my specific case, thanks.

Hi! One way is to use custom recovery to root your Galaxy J5. To root with custom recovery you will need a computer running Windows OS (didn't work with Linux distros using Wine) and download Odin from samsungodin.com. Then you will need a TWRP-recovery, the link is here:
https://eu.dl.twrp.me/j53gxx/twrp-3.1.1-1-j53gxx.img.tar.html
In Odin, click on the AP button and select your downloaded recovery file, boot your phone to download mode (Pwr+VolumeDown+Home), connect your phone with computer and start the installation process. It will usually take less than five seconds.
Once you installed the recovery, you will be able to easily root your phone. I recommend SuperSU as your SuperUser app. The link to official SuperSU is below:
https://s3-us-west-2.amazonaws.com/supersu/download/zip/SuperSU-v2.82-201705271822.zip
Boot into recovery (Pwr+VolumeUp+Home) and install SuperSU and that's it, your phone should now be rooted. If you consider any problems, feel free to ask for more help!
Regards,
Patrik.

[Guide] [2023] How to root GT-N7100(or any other old device) android 4.4.2[or <5] with Magisk

Hey! haven't seen anyone in this section for a while....
Why I am making this thread
So lately, I was looking through my old phones only only to find my old dusty Samsung Galaxy Note 2 lying around. It had already been rooted with kingroot... Needless to say, it's a spyware and my phone was drastically slow probably because of it.
Long story short, kingroot messed up all the files. Trying to install a working version of SuperSU gave me a headache. Finally, Magisk(v22.1) was supposed to work on the phone as it stated that it's the last version to support v4.4.2 but it doesn't actually work. It keeps on showing N/A whenever I launch it and a million different permutations that I had done in the process of rooting it using Magisk never worked.
This took me days, just jumping from one rabbit hole into another, finding old dead links which really made me so frustrated that at some point I wanted to throw the whole phone away.
That's why I'm creating this thread, so that I save the hassle for myself in the future and hopefully anyone who comes across this.
Updated rooting guide
This guide worked for my GT N7100 android version 4.4.2. It'd also probably work on other devices on other old phones which have an android version less than 5
Just make sure to backup everything before trying it.
Step 1. Flashing TWRP
Download the files from the following link
[TWRP]N7100 TWRP v3.3.1-0 ODIN FLASHABLE [23/05/2019]
Ok there we go this recovery is the latest 3.2.3-2 for t03g only don't flash this on t0lte(N7105). UPDATE: 12/04/2019: official support: https://dl.twrp.me/t03g TWRP 3.2.3-2 for N7100. Bugs: Format as F2FS doesn't work because the option isn't...
forum.xda-developers.com
Download ODIN
https://samfw.com/Odin/Odin3_v3.13.3.zip
Boot the phone into download mode(VOLUME DOWN + POWER KEY + HOME KEY)
Open ODIN and in BL choose the file that you've downloaded whose extension is or is similar to ".tar"
Click start
Step 2. Downloading and flashing Magisk
In here, you need to download a very specific version of Magisk, because anything above this version won't work.
NOTE: If you have installed any later versions of Magisk then make sure to uninstall them first, you can find out how to uninstall it from here(https://topjohnwu.github.io/Magisk/install.html#uninstallation)
Download THESE VERY SPECIFIC VERSIONS of Magisk and Magisk Manager from here
https://github.com/topjohnwu/Magisk/releases/download/v21.4/Magisk-v21.4.zip
https://github.com/topjohnwu/Magisk/releases/download/manager-v8.0.7/MagiskManager-v8.0.7.apk
Get into TWRP recovery mode and then flash Magisk-v21.4.zip
Reboot back into the device and install MagiskManager-v8.0.7.apk
That's the end of it, your device is rooted now
HOWEVER, once MagiskManager has been installed, it would say that there's an update available(a newer version) available that you could upgrade to.
NEVER EVER UPDATE!! Updating your Magisk version to ANYTHING above v21.4 will cause it not to detect root. This is a bug with Magisk and it would probably never get fixed because support for android <5 had been discontinued a long time ago.
In case you ever do accidentally update Magisk, you will have to uninstall the Magisk app and then install MagiskManager-v8.0.7.apk again.
To uninstall and unroot your device, download this file and flash it with TWRP
https://github.com/topjohnwu/Magisk/releases/download/v21.4/Magisk-uninstaller-20210117.zip
Where I got the links above from
https://github.com/topjohnwu/Magisk/releases/download/v21.4/
https://github.com/topjohnwu/Magisk/releases/download/manager-v8.0.7/
Magisk v22.1
This release is focused on fixing regressions and bugs. Check the v22.0 release notes if coming from older releases.
Note: Magisk v22 is the last major version to support Jellybean and Kitkat. Magisk v23 will only support Android 5.0 and higher.

Nope doesn't work as it wont be able to detect root at all, this is what had initially caused my headache to begin with
The last version of magisk that actually works on GT N7100 and probably any other old phone is the one that I linked in the thread

Thank you for the information.
I checked on Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini LTE i9195 (stock KK 4.4.2) and it works indeed at most version 21.4.
It is not possible to install MagiskManager-v8.0.7.apk because it is installed together with Magisk-v21.4.zip.
