Amazon now selling Idol 4S for $399.99 - Alcatel Idol 4S Guides, News, & Discussion

Just a heads up for those interested in buying through Amazon. They generally have an easier return policy than the average company and is a good way to use up those gift cards. Starting a new post because initially they didn't have any in stock, and then when they did have it in stock, they were charging +$430:

Samsung controls pricing for devices sold through authorized resellers and doesn't provide warranty support for those purchased from non-authorized resellers. The "deal" you saw was probably from the latter. Typically you'll see a Samsung sanctioned "X" dollars off every once in a while but usually you'll see things like a bundled in-store gift card or free accessories instead of an outright discount. If Costco carries the Note they'll offer some type of discount if sold in-store but not online where the pricing would be exposed. Depending on your tax rate it would be the same net price by buying it online and not paying tax.
This is today's price for a G-Tab 2 after its been on the market for months at Walmart, the king of discounting.

[Q] Groupon lying about the Nexus 7 price?

http://www.groupon.com/deals/gg-google-nexus-7-refurbished
Can anyone here remember the Nexus 7 being listed at $260?
How about the 16GB version? It's list is now $199. It was $249 at launch, but not now.
List price is what the manufacturer suggests it should sell for and often has no relation to what it actually sells for. Kind of like the difference between retail price and street price. Sellers often use List price for comparison because it makes their deal look better even though smart people know it never really sold at that price. This groupon deal is bogus. Why would anyone pay $10 less than current selling price just to get a refurbished model with a shorter warranty (most are only 90 days instead of 1 year)? Only an idiot would look twice at that offer.
Groupon is a bunch of liars.
It never listed for $260, certainly not a refurbished model.
I often see their "deals" as sounding much better than what is actually the truth. Every so often when I see some heavily discounted product, I look up how much other sites are selling for. Nine times out of ten, you can buy the exact same thing for LESS than the Groupon price at a name brand retailer.
But in this case, the MSRP claim here is a flat out lie. It was $249 at launch, and is now $199. And just because the MSRP *was* $249 months ago doesn't mean it still is.

Possible to order this tablet from US to India?

I am still interested in this tablet but the price in India is completely ridiculous, around 47000 (almost $800) for the 32 GB 3G version. I thought Samsung might lower it over time but the price hasn't budged in 9 months.
I am interested in the 16GB Wifi version which seems to be available for around $350 refurbished on Amazon. I was wondering if any Indian posters have ordered it through them and what the final price is after shipping, taxes etc.
Online / store price the best that I have seen is INR 45,500...
But I agree on both counts
1. Price has certainly proved resistant to lowering
2. Its expensive (currently picked up an ipad air 16 gb for 36k at amazon india)
Have not ordered this from US as I will prefer to buy it local because
1. Warranty and repair service - god forbid something goes wrong with the tablet, doubt samsung would honor the warranty of another country and am not confident on the situation of parts and all for a model not sold here locally...service in India stinks!
2. Custom duties - we have some crazy custom duties typicall plus add the cost of shipping and chances are whatever savings in the price you get will be nullified by the cost of having it delivered in your hands.
Me, even if I could accept the second.l, cannot accept the first as I don't want to end up with an expensive paper weight.
Purely my own thoughts, yours may of course vary.

I agree with your points which is why I wondered if anyone had any personal experience of ordering from India especially with respect to point 2. If the savings are sufficient I would be prepared to risk the lack of warranty.
Samsung has really missed the boat with pricing on this tablet. They could have easily launched the 16GB wifi version for 35. And it's baffling that they have refused to reduce the price. The Note 3 which was released at the same time is now 38 and the GS5 which was released 6 months later is 35. Hopefully once they launch the newer version, the price on the 2014 will drop sharply.
i just received mine yesterday. i bought it via amazon.
It was used( open box Like new). And really is just new unit. But there is little bump on back side near samsung logo.( I searched on google and many new unit also have same issue. and anyway its not noticable.)
Price was $387 (including fast shipping in 2-5 days). It converted into 24263 inr (always place order in USD).
It shipped via fedex. custom duty is little less than 15%.+ fedex fees and service tax. Totally i paid 4268 inr as duty.
Its super easy just make everything clear with seller.
I hope it helps you.
Thanks. So it works out to around 29000. I have to say that's quite tempting even given the warranty issues.
Yeah that's the reason i got one.

Samsung promotion

I didn't see this here so I thought I would post it.

I wonder if it will work if I upgrade through Amazon... But trade an old phone through Best Buy?
Last time I bought my note 2 at best buy they price matched amazon with a sprint contract. (They also price matched an otterbox and samsung SD card to amazon.com) which saved me over $125 on price matching alone. As long as the product is shipped and sold by amazon.com and not a 3rd party seller.
My local best buy(Knoxville, TN) told me they are going to sell it there on all carriers for $299 even sprint
i would try either of those options before risking samsung not giving you any money top make up to $200. If they price match as they say you will only pay $99.99 for it at best buy.

Yeah and it seems you have to buy and trade in from the same store.
I didn't realize best buy would price match Amazon and I was buying a case and screen protector through Amazon anyway, I pre ordered through Amazon.

I'm sure amazon has not charged you for the phone. Cancel that order and head to best buy and pre-order. Seems they are not getting a lot of orders the best buy in my large city of Knoxville tn had only had 6 pre-orders total on all carriers including mine as of Monday so I'm sure they are still doing pre-orders about everywhere.
Or if you don't need the phone would were going to trade in go ahead and trade it in and try to see what happens can't hurt if you don't need the phone. On the link it never says you have to trade in on same retailer it says:
1. Pre-order note 4
2. Trade in old device at any participating retailer
3. Upload pre-order and trade in receipts to samsung.com/ xxxxxxxxx (can't remember exact site but it seems it may work.) Contact samsung customer service see what they say
When does it get released.

I specifically asked my local best buy if they would price match the note 4 with Amazon and they said no. Only price match to Sprint stores, not even other retailers like Target etc.
Forgive me I was a bit confused.
Do I have to buy the phone at best buy?
Is this only for the sprint version?
Thank You
From the looks of this I should be able to get 200 credit for my Epic? Or am I delusional?
*** Just went to try the pre-order on Amazon, and it seems it wont allow me to keep my current unlimited data plan.. WTF.
Took the GF to BB today and was told corporate sez they have reached the limit for phones available for pre order through BB store's. She was unable to pre order one with the promo's. WTF?
Lucky I ordered mine a couple of days ago. Sheesh...
I tried last week to order the black model and got the same response. The white version was available, but I don't think I could handle having a white phone, even if am going to get a case for it at some point (if I get I get the phone at all)
I was told today that the stores cannot pre-order anymore, but I was able to online. Now I plan on going to store to see if they will honor the trade-in promo, since it says in stores only
My Pre Order Experience
Today:
Went to BB, was able to pre order the Note 4 and traded in a Samsung S2 US Cellular
Was given an instant $25 gift card for the Samsung and then will receive $175 Instant rebate at time of purchase.
I was told to pick up the phone on 10/16 after 10AM
Price match to amazon was accepted.
Also applied for an additional Best Buy CC, which is an auto decline without a credit run because I already have the card and they gave me an additional $20 off for that,
At the end:
$300 Phone - Price Match
$200 Gift Card
$20 Credit
$40 Gift Certs
10% coupon
-------
$30 Balance
Love you BB
Just thought I would add that it is any store, online or physical that is accepting pre orders according to the Samsung faq on the promotion. I pre ordered through sprint and will fill out the form through Samsung Web site.

Amazon Prime Deal on Mate 9

Amazon Prime Deal on Mate 9 - US Warranty - going for $449.99
https://www.amazon.com/Huawei-Amazo...ie=UTF8&qid=1499816776&sr=1-1&keywords=mate+9
I picked mine up last Friday on the Best Buy refurb deal for $363 including tax with a $25 airtime card. Phone is as new but it's a bummer they sent a generic charger but when I called they refunded me $40. Still not sure if I'll keep it as I already have an S8 and the only thing I like better on the Mate is the fingerprint sensor. It does remind of my long cherished 6P. The damn software - root process just sucks IMO, really wish it this hardware fitted with stock Android or even something more like Oxogen.
