Zenfone Marshmallow Update Issues - Zenfone 2 Laser Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Our zenfone has become more unstable to those who updated to Marshmallow (like me). There are many issues like the gallery thumbnails won't show up and some apps aren't working correctly like the camera app and other applications. I've been searching for a solution. There are many people who have the same issue and until now, it has never been fixed. I've read multiple forums and fixes but it does'nt seem to work. I've tried all the solutions they suggested like: Factory reset and wipe cache the device, clear the app data, update the app and backup the files to computer and move again to my device. Not only my device (ZE550KL) is experiencing this problem but it is the same with othe devices like Zenfone 5, Zenfone Selfie, and Zenfone Max. I hope asus will fix this problem.
To those who have issues on their device after the update, please post it here so that we will try to ask for help and find a solution for that particular problem.

Even until now, no one has replied

Try the latest version of the stock rom. I'm running that and it's OK.

1.What device are you using?
2. Are you able to boot into MIUI 4.8.8 or are you experiencing a boot loop?
3. What recovery are you using?
4. Did you factory reset/wipe before installing MIUI? (The first version you install on the device not 4.8.15)
5. Is the ROM officially supported by the MIUI developers or is it an unofficial port?
Help us help you.
I ran the update this morning without any issue except losing Google Keyboard with Material Design which was quickly fixed by removing and reinstalling the app. My device is the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 SM-N900.

Wifi dropping on Miui 7.5.0.3 Android 5.1.1

Hello guys.
I have one Redmi 2 Prime Global with Miui 7.5.0.3 Android 5.1.1 and after it changed, thru OTA, to Lolipop the wifi got crazy.
It's connected in wifi but it, randomly, stop traffinc data. A simple put in airplane mode, fix it, but after a couple of minutes I lose the wifi again.
For the sake of the discussion, I already have searched all the internet and the mess that is the Miui forums. Some other users have the same issues but there's no information about solution.
It seems that it's a driver issue with lolipop and even the Miui 8 beta has this problems. I know because I have tried it.
I trully appreciate if anyone can help me on this issue or knows any more info about it. Thank you.

Welp. flashing Jerrica makes things better, but does not solve it.
Now my phone has a more stable wifi, but its has the same issues still and randomly reboots (something like one time in a couple of days).
Any more suggestions are welcome, as it seems that you have experienced similar issue.
This might not be the Problem but I think it is ....
Flashing MIUI Update 7.5.3 caused many a Problem ,
Like , the Navigation bar Stops working .. Volume keys Stop working , phone Reboots itself and heats like hell ...
I tried Every Method to solve it , even with a Format , didn't work ,,.. then I just reflashed the ROM and it was Gone .. if you don't want to Do a Format (dalvik/cache/data wipe) then Dirty flash it again .. but I'll say , do a proper flash , backup all your apps and data using titanium backup , upload your things to google and do a Proper flash ..
Hope it solves it , I have Experienced the problem and This Solved it in many cases apart from This too . MIUI 7.5.3 supports both 5GHz and 2.5GHz so it shouldn't be a Problem with Wifi ..

I think you should flash a fastboot rom of 7.5.3, i am out of suggestions:laugh::laugh::laugh:
Quick update, for the sake of who has the same problem.
Nothing fixed it (in any lolipop version). But last week Xiaomi published the Miui 8.6.9.29 beta, after a few weeks with a pending update for the Redmi 2 prime. With this update the wifi, finally, is fixed.
Thank you guys for the help.

Proximity sensor issue m3 note

I ve seen this adressed but upgrading to Flyme 6 does not solve the problem for me. Proximity sensor works occasionaly then not. With sensor utility it works like 5 times out of ten. I tried all G versions of Flyme 5, Flyme 6, chinese betas, problem still persists.
Does anyone have an idea or had a similiar issue. Thnx

If you update to new firmwares with clear data ticked then this will not happen, if you update with clear data ticked then Flyme 6 has an option to calibrate the proximity sensor and sccelerometer under the settings app. (Settings>Accessibility if i'm not wrong). Try doing it, if that doesn't help too then it most definitely is a hardware issue.
My phone is gionee f103(not pro) and rooted . For installation of custom rom,I followed the instructions in this guide and installed the zip from TWRP. It installed without any issues. But when I rebooted, the device got stuck in bootloop. I was not able to use either recovery or factory mode. Please tell me , what do i now , please.......

Having random reboots with all the custom roms

my phone works stable with the official rom but all the custom roms are crashing.
aospextended v6.7 and resurrection remix pie 7.0.2 are bootlooping, i can't even complete the first setup. rebooted over 20 times. during the first setup or at the boot logo. i couldn't even complete my setup and see the launcher.
groovy works better, but randomly reboots here and there. sometimes in minutes sometimes in few hours... got 5 crashes so far, it's the only rom that's "kinda usable" but google play services and setup wizard crashed during the first setup
https://imgur.com/drxsurP
https://imgur.com/9h4O6Iz
also tried changing my kernel, installed icey, nothing changes...
what might be the problem here?
phone is zenfone selfie zd551kl (z00t)
installing gapps pico but tried without gapps as well... same problems.
bootloader is unlocked.
using twrp 3.3.1-0, 3.4.0-0 gives me error 7 and can't install roms.
my battery is new, it can last over a week with the stock rom. without any crashes... completely stable. i don't thing it has any hardware issues.
can i even log the errors if it can't even boot properly? if so, how?
what can i try to solve this problem?
Flash twrp latest version.. reboot to twrp..wipe everything...then power off your phone..then again reboot to twrp.. now install your rom from sd card.. hopefully you won't get any errors

okay, restarting after the wipe helped with twrp 3.4.0-0, i could install without error 7 this time.
but the phone still rebooted at the "hi there" screen, a few seconds after the first boot... then did it again. now booting for the third time... still not stable.
edit:4th reboot...
8 reboots so far... yeah same bootloop again. not fixed the problem.
can i take logs from a bootlooping phone? i can't enable debugging from the settings...
edit2: tried again without gapps, aospextended booted. and apparently developer options and debugging are enabled by default. guess i can take logs after all... now waiting to see if it'll crash again without gapps.
edit3: tried nikgapps instead of opengapps since it doesnt have that first google setup process, rebooted 3 times at first but now the uptime is 30 minutes.
edit4: crashed when i tried to signin google play store.

tried resurrection remix marshmallow from 2016, looks stable so far... so, my phone is not compatible with nougat and above? does it make any sense? am i missing some other factory software? is it update-able?
edit: rr mm wasn't stable either. a bit better and not bootlooping but crashes as random points...
now i'm flashing all the stock roms sequentially from the release of this phone. then i'll try one more time...
if it doesn't work i might try flashing latest lollipop and install custom roms over it.
i went back to stock lollipop and installed rr marshmallow on it, no restarts or bootloops so far... looks stable. but it's from 2016.
if i install mm firmware and a newer version of mm nougat oreo or pie roms it won't run stable.
so, my phone is not stable with the custom roms that are using mm firmware for some reason... any ideas?
also what's the best rom i can use with lollipop firmware?

I've had an idea needed to test it first, I got back to latest stock w.w version after booted up completely flashed twrp using adb and wiped cache system and data without wiping ASDF Partition then flashed AEX pie rom( I had problem with my handsfree last I checked) with ICEYS_C kernel and and gapps nano 2020/12/19
After booting up completely my handsfree worked perfectly!
So 2 changes:
1-Stock kernel with w.w version
2-not wiping ASDF Partition
You can try that maybe your problem with custom roms would solve!
Check this thread
[GUIDE][ZD551KL] Zenfone Selfie bootloop, brick, firmware upgrade errors fix etc.
I had to fix a couple of bricked selfie phones (z00ud and z00udb but i assume this works on any selfie zd551kl model), that were probably bricked by autoflashing wrong firmware, so after spending a few days going thru many different tutorials...

there are others with unofficially unlocked bootloaders, using custom roms...
i might use "ResurrectionRemix-M-v5.6.9-20160607-Z00T-OFFICIAL"
went back to it after my last attempt with japanese firmware+pie roms. never crashed, so far looks stable enough. and definitely cleaner than crappy bloated zenui

today i found that zenfone 2 laser had a more up to date stock rom, tried it on my selfie and installed custom rom over it. didn't work either.
Version WW-21.40.1220.2181 2019/08/07
emmc_appsboot_8939.mbn file from the firmware update was different so i had a hope for a few minutes
btw how's ur performance? am i losing optimization and performance with the cyanogen nightly based rom from 2016?

mine is geekbench4, yours geekbench5.
marshmallow is not compatible with 5 so i couldn't bench it. you can install 4 tho. to compare...
what about 3dmark slingshot? that should be the same
wish i could at least run nougat roms tho. groovy android is more than enough for me.
marshmallow doesn't even have the double tap to switch gesture for last 2 apps its annoying. it doesn't support google dialer's recent versions so no dark mode... last security patch is from 2016...
why am i so unlucky?
edit:damn geekbench5 is much harder i guess...
even my main phone with snapdragon835 can't beat zenfone selfie's geekbench4 single core score
https://imgur.com/iWHuiIH
also roughly 1/3 the performance of nokia8 looks great for such an old mid range phone. wish i could use pie on it too
and since my main phone is pie, that would be easier for me. now they're just too different to switch between. i'm swiping recent apps up to close them or double tapping the recent apps button on my asus etc.

physics score is much higher wow.
so i'm losing performance, security, usability, new features and better design... great! same hardware and i'm not being able to utilize its potential.
meanwhile i had to install xposed and n-ify module for switching between last 2 apps by double tapping recents button gesture and a better quicksettings/notification panel. its not perfect, maybe because my rom is not stock cyanogen and instead resurrection remix with extra customizations... but its not bad, definitely an improvement.
can't properly hide my root with xposed installed tho.

My Redmi Note 7 Repeatedly Freezes.

My xiaomi redmi note 7 device is currently running Android 11 Lineage OS 18.1, and I've been facing an issue in which the phone just freezes randomly, and I'm unable to use it until I force a restart. I faced a similar issue when I was using Cherish OS A12 but it was less frequent. Does anyone have an idea on what the problem could be or how to fix it?
One day something similar happened to me, I recommend you flashing the original firmware of the Redmi Note 7, you can download it from mi community.
I was using cherish, and i didn't have any problem. Before you flash the original firmware, i recommend you to try Project Arcana, it is a good custom rom

UPDATE
I have since flashed the latest firmware and the issue still persists. I also flashed the fastboot ROM of the device to have a fresh start per se, but the issue still returns when I install a custom ROM. Currently on Project Arcana OS, and it's still happening. I have decided to use the ROM without Magisk, because it seems to be the only thing I haven't tried yet, and there haven't been any freezes for almost 24 hours now. I will update this if it happens again.
