Suggested APN settings / Google Duo help - AT&T Note 7 Questions & Answers

Does anyone have any idea as to a good APN setting to use for the Note 7 on AT&T? I am asking because I seem to be having a connection issue or lag when trying to use Google Duo. Maybe it is just Google Duo, but I still think a better APN might be of some use.
Thanks for any input.

APN: nxtgenphone seems to work best for the newer devices. Could just be the Duo service.. remember, it's still a fresh app and they'll be improving it as time goes on, depending on how many people actually use it.

There is a thread from back in the day related to this on the Note 2 forum. There are still some changes you can make to the currently provide APN to speed you up a bit.

att gprs: ims.cingular vs wap.cingular

hi all,
so been looking into this over the past year or so, and yet to get a definitive answer one way or the other....
anyone who is on at&t wireless and is lucky enough to have a 3g phone, and in an area with 3g coverage, have you tried and found any difference between the "ims.cingular" gprs apn, and the standard "wap.cingular" apn?
as i understand it, access to the ims.cingular apn is dependent on having the "ims" feature on the at&t account, which i believe is connected to having video share (pay-per-use is a free addition to any account). now i've looked into "ims" as a whole, and again, i understand it's somehow connected to att's video share deal, but not sure as to the details.
personally, i've been using the "ims.cingular" apn for over a year now, and i have had no problems with internet access over edge/3g and even roaming internationally (both in france and the u.k.). in fact internet access on my phone has been rock solid, even when other people have claimed network downtime or problems with normal data access with at&t. in fact, i have heard anecdotal evidence that ims might be faster than wap, if anything just because less people are using it.
so what i would like to know is if anyone has any info about the "ims.cingular" apn, and if anyone who can access both would mind doing a few speed tests to see if either one is in fact faster. i'm going to run some tests myself over the weekend, and will posts my results. if we get a definitive answer on this, perhaps some of the chefs can default to using whichever is faster.
thanks in advance to all who can help.
ims.cingular i would say is faster wap is older and also associated with the "gophone" deal... obviously not made to be used in pdas or for speed
i use the gophone data plan though because through skyfire it doesn't make much difference (and you can get 3g for 20 a month)..... truthfully i would say that your radio would have more of a difference than wap or ims (my opinion though) another thing to factor would be your location and depending on it it you'll get different results, basically what i'm saying is that more than like it would be different for everyone and difficult to test and get accurate results

[Q] APN settings help (EDIT 5000: Solved!)

Hi all,
I need help getting my APN to save. I use Cricket Wireless and their APN settings are here: http://buzzmobile.us/cricket-apn-settings/
The problem is the MNC is 004 for Cricket, but changing the MNC to that makes the APN not save. I tried adding the APN line by line to see which setting made the APN disappear, and it's MNC. I've had this problem now on Mahdi 5/28, Mahdi 6/15, and now Paranoid Android RC2. My phone is the D801.
It does seem to sometimes work if I change the MNC. The APN will disappear from the list every time, but sometimes it will set the APN correctly and give me LTE, but only until I reboot the phone and then it's back to not working. This morning it doesn't appear to be working even if I re-enter the APN, though.
Why does this problem exist on multiple ROMs (saving APN settings seems like REALLY basic functionality to me) and how do I fix it? And why do I see several search results saying "don't change MCC or MNC" when clearly that is incorrect advice? If Cricket says MNC is 004 and some random forum people say Cricket is wrong, well... sorry, but Cricket would know better than you guys (those who say to not change it).
Thanks
EDIT: I //THOUGHT I// FOUND A SOLUTION! Instead of APN type "internet" I decided to try "internet, default" and immediately LTE came on. I don't understand why it worked without setting MNC when I changed this, but hey, it worked and I am happy at the moment. However, it would still be nice to see devs fix the MNC problem. I'd delete this thread but I see no option to do so. Mods can delete it if they feel like it. Or they can leave it up in case someone else has the same problem and wants to try the potential workaround of adding the ",default" to APN type. I'd still like to change the MNC to what Cricket says to use, though, because they wouldn't tell us to change it if it didn't do anything.
EDIT 2: Workaround doesn't seem to work. I get a proxy failed error. It says LTE but nothing seems to be able to use it. I think I need the MNC changed after all. Is there any developer who has this working right? It's really frustrating to go through multiple ROMs/versions only for incredibly basic functionality to not work.
Edit 3: USB tethering seems to work, but nothing on the phone itself. Weird! AAAND now I took the ",default" back out and LTE seems to be there again. Testing the phone now. I wonder if there was some sort of data outage in my area earlier that was causing issues. And I just rebooted the phone and now LTE is gone again (and I made sure the APN was selected)... This is seriously messed up. My phone is behaving extremely inconsistently and I want to throw it at a wall at full strength at the moment.

Android reads the MNC from the SIM. APNs with MNCs that are different than the SIM's will be hidden. Unless you are using your G2 on the legacy Cricket CDMA network you should be using the settings on the Cricket website https://www.cricketwireless.com/sup...ice-byod/customer/bring-your-own-android.html

Huh. I wonder why I didn't see that link when I was Googling for the settings. I'll give it a try. Thanks for the link.
Odd thing is it's worked on and off with the old settings, including setting the MNC to 004 (even though it did make the entry disappear). I don't understand it. I guess it doesn't matter, though, if these other settings work. Inconsistency is the most frustrating thing, because it's not obvious that your settings are wrong if they work sometimes but not others...
Edit: I can confirm the settings from that link are working... for the moment. I absolutely would not be surprised if it just randomly stops working again in the next 24h. Maybe I'll get a different phone when that happens.
I did live chat with Cricket Wireless and asked them to make sure the link you gave comes up for the search I did which was "cricket wireless apn settings android". Hopefully they will listen to my feedback so nobody else gets caught in this trap. Anyway, thanks again.
It would also be nice if Android would tell you why it's hiding an APN you just added... I wonder if devs could add an informative text about that.

Unlocked G900A on Verizon

Hey guys. I apologize if this has been addressed before. I did try searching, both XDA and the web in general, before posting this. I have a lot of experience with rooting, ROMing, bootloaders, kernels, Odin, etc. Basically anything associated with customizing a phone. Except for swapping between carriers, I've only done that a couple times and it only involved swapping the SIM and changing the APN. So I don't need kid gloves or a lot of explaining with potential solutions, like editing build.prop or flashing something either locally on the phone or through Odin. But anyways... here's my story, along with my thoughts on potential solutions to try (the only reason I haven't tried these solutions yet is because I don't wanna risk messing anything up):
I was given a Galaxy S5 for AT&T (model number G900A) about a week ago. I'm on Verizon and am currently using an S4 (coming from an S3 and Galaxy Nexus. So I've got a good deal of experience with Samsung devices. Although so much has changed between then and now, it's hardly relevant). So obviously the first thing I did was just throw my SIM from my S4 into the S5. Didn't work. SIM was locked (something I've never seen). Oh well, I didn't expect it to be so simple. The S5 was still on KK, so I figured I'd try a custom ROM to see if that affected the SIM lock. It didn't. So I ordered a SIM unlock code (a girl gave it to me who was given it by her ex boyfriend who didn't like the idea of her giving it to a different guy, so he wasn't exactly cooperative with unlocking it. No biggie, $24 was still well worth it). Since then, I've played with it a bit. I'm currently running TMS5 2.0. It's hard to form a complete opinion on a ROM when I don't have data/cell capacity and can only use WiFi. But with the small amount of experience, it's a nice ROM. I got my SIM unlock code this morning thanks to unlockunit.com. The SIM unlock I had purchased was estimated at 1-6 days and I received it in like 23 hours. I'd definitely use them again if anybody is looking for a place. Everything seemed to be going smoothly. Unlock was successful, added the APN settings, but the APN settings wont save. I've rebooted, cleared cache/dalvik, removed/reinstalled SIM, nothing worked. I figured I'd try a new ROM, but wanted to ask for some other opinions too. Also, when I had the thought to try a new ROM, I also thought that maybe a Verizon ROM would work on the Verizon network? But also figured it could not boot too, so I'd ask first.
Anybody have this experience with any solutions? Anybody else have any thoughts/ideas? I'd appreciate any input. Thank you
after hours upon hours of tinkering with it. I've made extremely slight "progress". Since I've been screwing with this all day, a lot of the time I'm doing something else at the same time. I noticed that when I had filled out the APN fields (listed below, so everyone can see what I'm using) and then turned the screen off and then back on, it would save and show on the APN list. But still didn't work. After looking closer, it was because when the screen turned off, the MCC and MNC changed from 310 and 012 into 311 and 480, respectively. I'm not sure why, but the APN editor automatically puts those numbers in every time I open the APN settings, but they obviously don't work. One time, in the grocery store, it actually saved correctly. The antenna bars showed correctly and the 4G icon showed for the first time. Then as soon as I left the APN screen to check the browser, they reverted, I went back into the APN list and it was gone again... this is incredibly frustrating
Name Verizon
APN: internet or vzwinternet
Proxy blank
Port blank
Username blank
Password blank
Server blank
MMSC http://mms.vtext.com/servlets/mms
MMS Proxy blank
MMS Port 80
MCC 310
MNC 012
Authentication type not set
APN Type internet + mms
So I switched from Twisted back to TMS5 2.0 to check the APN settings in it as well. And it has the same issue, MCC is 311 and MNC is 480 by default upon opening the APN editor. TMS5 also has "default, hipri" under APN Type by default.
Just for the hell of it. I decided to try changing those numbers 1 at a time and saving. The APN Type was the only one that allowed me to change it. As I expected. I'm going to give AllianceROM a shot now and hope it works, but I have a hunch that *IF* flashing a different ROM does work, it will be a KK ROM. But I'm giving it shot just because I can quickly flash with FF, rather than having to use Kies and SS. Fingers crossed...
as expected. AllianceROM didn't work. Next step, I'm going to try the stock rooted OC4. I *REALLY* hope this works. The idea of flashing back to KK from LP makes me uneasy. If anybody is reading this, and knows how to flash a G900A back to KK, or knows of a thread that explains it, I'd really appreciate it.
(I apologize to those of you who I'm sure are getting annoyed at what seems to be a solo conversation. I'm only trying to document each different step I've tried just in case there's someone out there going through the same thing that happens to stumble across this thread. In the off chance that it turns out that I can't discover something that *DOES* work, I'd at least like to document what *DOESN'T* work so they can save the time and effort. Considering that I've wasted 15 hours now on this **** already, I'd at least like to save anyone with this same problem that stumbles across this thread some of that time.
Anyways... time to flash OC4...
Dude, just unlock all the bands from the secret menu. Google it. Go to UE Settings/Settings/Protocol/NAS/Network Control/Band Selection and select LTE/WCMA.
To access the hidden menu, use the app Secret Codes.
Warning: The code to enter the menu varies from carrier.
APN isn't needed. The relevant apn info is already on your SIM.

Wow. I wish I knew that. I even called VZW and they told me that it only had a gsm antenna and was impossible to use on VZW. Well I took that, and T-Mobile's sale as a sign. I had kicked around the idea of switching to T-Mobile and selling my VZW unlimited plan ever since T-Mobile came out with unlimited data plans. Especially with no contract. It just seemed like the ideal plan for $80. Then they had the sale for $100 for 2 lines unlimited talk/text/LTE. Which was what my Verizon plan was for one line and only 450 minutes. Turns out my friend and his girlfriend thought the same and just switched to that plan. So they added me as a 3rd line. Unlimited everything for only $40/month is incredible. So before I sold my VZW plan, I ran speedtest just to see what the difference was. Obviously expecting T-Mobile to be at a disadvantage there. Nope. T-Mobile was 35.37MB/s down, 11.65MB/s up. Verizon was 10.12 down and 2.57 up. But I live in Phoenix, so it's a big city with small buildings to get in the way and mountains scattered throughout to put radio towers on. I'm sure the results would be quite different in rural areas. But for my situation, I can't ask for more. Unlimited excellent service for less that half of what I used to pay. Plus I got to cash out decently on my old VZW unlimited plan before they either bring back unlimited data or do away with AOL, which I think one or the other will happen soon.
All-in-all, I couldn't be happier with a free S5 with a better plan on better service for a much better price. And I've rooted the S5 and put TMS5 2.0 on it which runs incredibly. I was very nervous making the jump but am so glad I did.
I just wish I checked this thread before so I could have been able to confirm if that would have worked to put this phone on Verizon, or if it was stuck as GSM only as was the conclusion I came to after trying everything I could possibly think of, and listed in this thread. I'm gonna see if I can find a friend with VZW that'll let me give it a shot with their SIM just to hopefully be able to help anyone else with the same issue
Wow man heads up more people may give your their $.02 if they didn't have to spend 5 minutes reading each post!
The reason your data didn't work is because you didn't update the modem when you updated the system (by using the different lollipop roms)... If you had updated the modem, data would have worked.

Oh well. Live and learn. It's not that I enjoy typing novels, I just wanted to be as detailed as possible with what I was trying. It all worked out though. T-Mobile has better service in my area and I cashed out well from my VZW data plan. So I have no complaints with how it turned out I guess

My Nexus 6P Pandora Loading Problem Fixed with APN Settings

Alright let me start off by saying that I just got this phone today! So far it's been pretty good I was using a OnePlus One prior so the experience is similar just lest customization than CyanogenMod lol.
Anywho, my OPO used a micro sim card not a nano so I had to go buy one from T-Mobile after that I popped that sucker in and expected everything to work flawlessly... That was not the case though. At first it took a bit to get my LTE signal even then my download speeds were pretty slow but with wifi I downloaded all my apps and I forgot about my LTE issue until I stepped out of the house to go for a run!
I fired up Pandora to listen to some music on my run, to my surprise after I logged in no songs were playing which I found peculiar to say the least since my data was working although it seemed a bit slow, I even googled this issue and found APN settings but it didn't fix my issue... What I figured out was in the APN protocol or IPV settings, it was set to IPV4/IPV6, I tried switching it to simply IPV4. After I saved those settings I lost data connection for a few seconds and as soon as I reconnected my Pandora started loading the music! I'm not sure how that affects data I know nothing about networking and IPV settings but all I know is that switching it to only IPV4 fixed my loading issues, much more snappy and of course my Pandora started working!
I don't know if anyone else has had this problem but all I know is that those IPV settings were stock and I simply changed it to only IPV4 to fix my issue. I hope this might help someone else!
Weird, maybe your location towers software...
I stream Pandora daily with out issues via T-Mobile LTE IPV4/IPV6 in APN.

Yeah, even weirder, my APN's default to IPv6 when I reset my phone on T-Mobile. And I have no problems with it in that mode (with everything except 1 application, and I've sent info to the developers on why it's broken).
Yeah I found it weird as well, but that was the only thing that was able to fix my issue, I was getting quite frustrated since I use Pandora almost daily and it wasn't loading. Now hearing that you guys have no trouble with your data using IPV6 I find it even more puzzling, ah oh well as long as it works haha I won't question it. Maybe a T-Mobile Issue in my area?

Anyone Using this on T-mobile?

Hi all
My device is arriving later today, will be using on t-mobile. Was hoping there are others using on t-mobile and would share their experience so far.
I plan on rooting as I cannot deal with excessive ad's and want to try out N-ify. Coming for samsung S-6 (been samsung since s-3)
Any advice from everyone greatly appreciated as well
Thank you
I'm on T-Mobile, came from the note 4 and then note 7. I've seen much better reception compared to both of my previous phones but the lack of wifi call(supposedly coming soon) has been awkward. The battery life has been amazing though so if you like the software and the feel in hand then you'll be very pleased with your choice.

Yeah i read somewhere the wifi calling required an apk to be installed. Any idea which one? Could I copy it over from my S6?
Honestly I only use at home because my reception here is terrible, but I lived with that on Verizon (no wifi calling ) for years so no big deal have ooma at home anyway.

I have a pretty good signal and through the speedtest app I am topping out at about 75/50 on t-mobile. Haven't tried directly next to the tower, but with my old Note 4 it hit 110 down. Otherwise the speeds are very similar. Curiously t-mobile had turned on 'binge-on' for my account even though I have the old style unlimited, so it was giving me a paltry 1.5mbps. Turned it off (#263#) and the fast.com app gives me 50mbps.

I just switched to T-Mobile and have found signal strength and speeds amazing. The only issue I ran into was, two days ago, I suddenly wasn't able to send/receive an MMS while on Wifi anymore (even though I use GoSMS and have the T-Mobile work-around enabled). Found out that T-Mobile switched some of their settings in my APN and locked it down. I created a new one and changed the following settings:
Port = 80
APN Type = default,supl,fota,hipri,mms,dun,admin,mobile
APN Protocol = IPv4/IPv6
APN Roaming Protocol = IPv4/IPv6
Now, it automatically switches to 4G if I want to send/receive an MMS while on Wifi, just like before.
Also, since you're going to root, I suggest you install "Buttons Remapper." Right now, the only way to bring up the Menu button is to enable the stupid MiPOP function, which causes screen overlay issues. Using Buttons Remapper, I mapped my Recent Apps capacitive button to open the Menu with a long press.

The Axon 7 struggles in low light. It's not unusable, but it's not great. The pictures it takes in good light are fine. It performs a bit better with manual adjustment, leading me to believe that there are improvements to be made in the ZTE software that could improve the camera somewhat.

The work around *should* be for any messaging app as well. I thought the problem was GoSMS, so I installed Textra but had the same issue. That led me to believe it was a radio/modem/phone problem.
I researched the issue and a lot of people were/are having issues with the T-Mobile Wifi Calling app (on approved devices). When enabled, the app was supposed to send/receive MMS over wifi (like Sprint), but people were noticing messaging apps would just hang when sending or be stuck on "downloading" when receiving. They had to disable wifi and connect to a cell tower to receive the MMS. The APN settings bypassed the app by reverting to cellular in order to send/receive the MMS, then re-enabling wifi.

Tmobile user here. I used to have to use WiFi calling , when I had my note 4, at my house but am only using the cell network for calling and it's great! Getting about 100 down as well.
thanks for the APN, I feel like it has made a difference in my youtube buffering speed.
