Share HDR Content Here! - T-Mobile Note 7 Guides, News, & Discussion

I wanted to create a place where we could all share HDR video content we find online, so post your YouTube links for any cool HDR videos you find!
Here's one:

Hdr doesn't work unless the app forces it on which only the Amazon app from Samsung can do for now so viewing these videos is useless until we find out how to force hdr on. If you don't believe me I can show you a logcat that shows the Amazon so forcing it on but not YouTube

Do we really need a topic just for this?

Why not? HDR Content is really scarce and it would be great to be able to take full advantage of our screens by helping each other out.

HDR is going to be a revolutionary thing in terms of TV image quality (at least on OLED displays). For smartphones though... it's cool that Samsung included the capability, but it's BARLEY a thing in the TV world. Smartphones aren't going to see anything meaningful with HDR for a long time. I tried watching an Amazon episode when I first got the phone (one that has HDR enabled on my LG OLED 4K TV) and nothing in particular let me know any type of HDR was enabled. Maybe it wasn't working yet... maybe it's not working at all. Either way, it's probably nothing but a gimmick. When it becomes mainstream and used on YouTube, that's when I'll care.

[Q] HD on the Youtube app?

Hey. I'm new here Thought i'd see if you guys could answer a question for me.
I was wondering if anyone knew exactly what the resolution of videos playing in the nexus 10 youtube app are? I haven't actually got my nexus yet, but I imagine it's the same as my S3, where the player only has a "SD" and "HD" option.
Is the HD just equivilent to 720p? Or will it choose the highest possible resolution for the video? I'm asking this because watching youtube videos in 1080p would be really nice
Thanks!
I am curious too since it does not lt you select.
Pretty sure it's 720p on the app for HD.
I'll do a test when I get home later.
I've been wondering that too
Youtube app will render videos to Hd720p. If you want full 1080p you'll have to use the browser.

Thanks for the replies.
That's annoying Would be nice if google could update the app for tablets so we can view 1080p videos without having to use the browser.
Google should update the app and give you the option because the browser page is not good in my opinion slow laggy and hard to use with a touch screen.
Why make a Google product and then hinder it with low quality video stream. Honestly its one thing that annoys me with with his tablet how soft videos look from the YouTube app. It does not do this amazing tablet justice , lucky I have nice images to look at lol

Yup, 720p only.
Your right! I did not know that. Google does own youtube since 2005 from what I read.

isn't youtube owned by google?
jjdevega said:
Its not Google that needs to update, it's YouTube. Google isnt responsible for apps not made by them.
Youtube just needs to start jumping on the band wagon and start supporting higher res streaming.

If google says jump, youtube says how high. They are their subsidiary.
With the Nexus 10 and its supreme display resolution I guess we can expect an update to the YouTube app pretty soon. I expect a 1080p option.
Yes, 1600p would be nice but don't forget at this resolution/bitrate many people won't be able to stream it anymore, at least not in an acceptable time frame.

How many people are tethering often enough to worry about that? I have a first batch Nexus 10, and I've always just used it on Wi-Fi.

It was a sarcastic question hence the face. Thanks for joining in on the conversation.
Nexus 10 doesn't come with radio for data hence me asking as if his Nexus 10 did.
I hope this explanation clears things up for you so you aren't confused by sarcasm.
Yeah it would be nice if they updated the app, but I suppose 720p isn't too bad on a 10 inch screen anyway.
Youtube only supports up to 2048x1536 at the moment anyway. Hopfully 1600p youtube will come eventually
Youtube 720p looks surprisingly good on the N10 to me. If they add a 1080p option I definitely hope 720p is still selectable.

Well, let me answer with some numbers:
I have a really high quality video on my N10 (the Timescape Trailer), it's 1440p and 33.5 mbit/sec worth of data.
Even with high compression a 1600p video would be like 10-20 mbit/sec or around 40 mbit/sec in very high quality.

YouTube very choppy

Anyone else find that while playing YouTube videos it's a bit choppy? I tested multiple videos and they all seem to be very choppy.

No problem here on the open D802 version.
Only with HD enabled. Unfortunately. Alot of other users (german android-hilfe.de forum) also say that its choppy with HD enabled (D802).
Apparently, it was the same on previous LG Android phones.

Issue lies within the LG Software.
Does this happen on wifi too, or just on the celluar network? I have verizon and no issues so far.

Tmo here, no issues on 4g, LTE, or wi-fi.
Getting choppiness on HD here as well. I'm using the Youtube app. Does anyone know of any good third party Youtube apps?

Go search smarttube the only downside it doesn't bring up you subscription feed. I connected my YouTube account and add it to watch later and then go on smarttube and they have a section for YouTube watch later
The issue that I have is the quality of video isn't very good. Its not bad until you see text on the screen and its kinda pixelated. Smarttube looks better on HD or full HD. Then my YouTube app

I have also brought thus issue up in the Q&A forum before. The only solutions I have found so far is too uninstall updates of the YouTube app and use the old one instead, or use the mobile web version.

Recommend a video camera app

So the video camera app is pretty useless due to the horrible auto focus on speed, so I need a new one - any recommendations that works well with the G2. Has to be able to record [email protected]

Try ProCapture. I've used it for a long time, it's even better on the G2 and does [email protected] Just tested it and focus seems to be fairly good.
I have the paid version, but they have a free one to try before you buy.

Install lgCamera from the Play Store. It's the best replacement I've found for the video issue. I've been using the free for a bit, seems to work so I'll likely shell out the dough to buy it outright.
I've tried several apps (Lenovo Super Camera, Focal, a few others whose names I forget) and none of them worked as well for me as the lgCamera did. Good luck.

Hi, I would appreciate if you share your experience here.

Does the video you tried to watch support 1440p? Search for "2k demo video" or something and see if 1440p is available when you watch one of those.
I did not do anything special it just played search 4k video test you will find a couple great test videos.

Should be by now. It wasn't when the OP was made. I hade it before apk mirror too.
However the OP was to inform people they did not need to do the build prop edit anymore to get the 2k viewing.

New app updated from Google Play worked for me. But it wont work right off the bat. You have to force close app, go to the app settings and clear cache and data. Restarted YouTube and voila! Haven't had 1440p enabled in quite a bit
Anyone Know how to keep video quality at the highest? seems to change between videos. Nothing is settings.
Depends on the resolution the video was uploaded with. Some videos are low resolution, some are high. So you have to check each one. YouTube also streams in a lower resolution to get the video to the viewer quicker. Not everyone has fast enough Internet to stream 4k videos without buffering issues.

Good Slideshow Maker app?

I've tried 5 or 6 slideshow makers/video editors in the past week. They all seem to be full of ads, and only a couple have a paid version that's reasonably priced. Most look shady. I just want to create short videos from photos with decent transitions. Music is optional but would be nice. Suggestions? Maybe an XDA test APK?
